Everything on the specialty menu is great. Love the lamb chop. It's amazing. Serving is large enough for share. And the flavor is just great - delicate balance of different spices without any of them overpowering, perfectly cooked medium rare lamb chops with juice every bite you take, simply not the typical Indian food you take everyday. They do put sides order separately. My suggestion is, if you come with a group, order some different entrées for share and put in a lot of side orders. We got take out from here while I was visiting back home. My brother had ordered from here once before and recommended it. They have a small location in a little corner shopping center. There was only one couple eating in when we picked up our food, but it was terribly rainy night. The man who assisted us with our order seemed like he may have been the owner. He was very friendly. Our food was delicious. We got the Chicken Biryani and the Chicken Tikka Masala. So good! The Chicken Tikka does not include rice. So, make sure to order a side of rice. I'd seen Anthony Bourdain order biryani on his show so I was eager to try it myself. I've gotten the chicken biryani here twice now and it's delicious! They give you a really good portion and it's very flavorful and spice laden. Be careful of the pieces of cloves and coriander - I pick those out. Also, I would get the mild version. It's assertive for mild. I also tried the chicken tikka masala which was good. I thought it would've had more spice but I understand that it's actually a British-Indian dish. My mom and sister loved it. They should really include rice with it but we just ordered a side of rice. The only thing I thought was just okay was the naan bread but I'd like to try the garlic version. I make my own grilled garlic naan bread at home so I'm a tough critic. This place has probably the best Pakistani food I've ever had in my life. As a local, I frequent the restaurant every so often, to get a fix of their food. And since there are too many things to rave about, I'll keep it to my favorites. The garlic naan is a revelation, brushed with melted butter and delivered to your table hot and fresh. It is absolutely delicious, and is easily the best naan I've ever had. All of their lamb dishes are really delicious as well, and I'm partial to their Lamb Karahi. It is unbelievably good. Honestly it's really oily but it's too delicious for me to speak badly of. The spiced tomato base of the sauce combined with the stewed lamb is sososo good. The flavors combine perfectly and it really melts in your mouth. The best way to eat it is by dipping the naan into the sauce and scooping it straight into your mouth. On the side, I also really like their ordering their potato samosas and biryani, which are both really delicious. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Local mom and pop Indian /Pakistani restaurant with a decent (cheap @ 8.99) lunch buffet. Not sure what the hype is here as I've been spoiled by legit Indian food in Virginia. The quality of the food was ok; my fav. was the chicken masala... buttery and juicy chicken not over powered by any flavor. Curry chicken was well flavored (sweet and spicy) as was the yellow lentil. It was fresh out of the kitchen but the chicken tika was super burnt and then the next batch was super oily as the kind man mentioned they deep fried it. Only chicken leg was available in this batch. Not sure if they had any white meat options actually. :-/ very basic A few selections of entrees... the meat quality was not the best. To get right to the headlines the food was pretty good, the atmosphere was ok, the service was a little too much on the chatty side at the expense of efficiency, but Mint really lost points for me and my friends because they have no beer, no wine, no booze. They have that policy, they explained, because some guests, for religious reasons, not only don't want to drink alcohol they don't want to be in a restaurant with other people like me who like a Taj Mahal or Kingfisher beer with my Indian food. That's their business decision, personally I think it's the wrong one. Therefore I cannot give them more than 3 stars when they have decided to cater to certain groups at my expense. That said, the lamb karahi was excellent. The other dishes were pretty good but nothing amazing. I might consider them for takeout but I think I will be getting my Indian food at a very nice and pretty darned good Indian place that recently opened just down Alicia Pkwy from Mint. If you change your religious no alcohol policy make it known and you will get more of my business. If not, I still wish you much luck and success. read more

Wow!!! Chicken karahi, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, chicken biryani are literally the best of each I have ever had. Medium spicy level is still pretty spicy so be careful. We make indo/paki food at home all the time and we go out all the time and I love this food but am never WOW'd by it. I was thoroughly WOW'd by the food here! This has got to be my favorite indo/paki place to go. It seems like a new place because the decor/setup was a little... lacking. I feel like there needs to be a place to greet guests and seat them. Other than that no complaints whatsoever. Servers were polite, food came out on time and was amazing, bathrooms were clean, plenary of parking, no wait to be seated. Amazing food!!! I ordered the chicken tandoori, samosas, and the lamb tikka masala. It was super tasty unlike many other Indian places I have been too. The food tastes fresh and made with love. Definitely a long review worth writing! This is one of the most authentic Pakistani food you're going to get in OC. I hosted a small Iftar here yesterday and loved both the food, ambience and service! FOOD - I have to say everything was gourmet, fresh and on time. The chicken Karhai and goat Karhai's were so flavorful, served fresh and hot in a authentic wok as well as their naans. The lamb kebabs were so succulent and well presented. Malai Koftas had a unique creamy flavor! Biryani's were authentically delicious! Portion size was great! Desserts - everything was made from scratch at the restaurant. Loved their unique ingredients in the desserts. Our sweet tooth's led us to try the rice pudding, macaron jamun, home made pistachio gelato, gajar ka halwa and ras malai for us and our guests. All were so delicious. My favorite was the rice pudding and Gulab Jamuns. Presentation - Was amazing from salads, to entrees and desserts. Very creative! Yet to try the exquisite drinks and mocktails. Ambience - newly renovated design with contemporary and ethnic touches that sets the mood. Very clean and slightly upscale compared to others! Service - last but not least, this made the whole experience so great! Raza was so great, he ensured everything was well coordinated, organized, gave us suggestions and frequently checked to see if we need anything and if anything had to be replenished. The food here is absolutely delicious. We discovered Mint about 1 year ago and continue take-out or dine-in about 2-4 a month. Never had a bad experience and the food is always top notch. Great customer service when dining in too. The staff are always friendly and very helpful to answer any questions. Wife and I tried a goat dish for the first time and absolutely loved it. The quality of the food is great. Never had Indian food before, no worries neither did we. The servers will guide you to dishes you will love. We got bored with standard dishes and upped our game. We are so glad we did! We have discovered many new dishes at this place and the food is always spot on. This place can get packed during peak dinner times but I don't think a reservation would be required. Good place for families with small children as well. Mint is definitely one of our more favorite places to go eat. In fact, wife and I ate there 3 weeks in a row this past month. No Joke! read more

I found Mint Restaurant on Yelp with high reviews, and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant is small with not much decor. Lunch buffet is $8.99/person and starts at 11am. I was there at 1pm, and some of the selections were out. The waiter said they will refill the food tray soon. I could hear the chef busy cooking in the kitchen. He brought out a few vegetable dishes to refill. No meat refill though. Their chicken tikka masala and curry chicken were delicious. I also like the okra a lot. Overall the food was good. But I didn't like the dark and depressing ambiance at the restaurant. read more

I came back to Mint around 2 months after their grand opening and had a much better experience. First of all, the decor improved significantly. All the tacky diner booths were replaced with tables, a couple TVs were installed, and there is air conditioning. Mint looks more like a restaurant now. The food quality exceeded expectations this time, as the food in the buffet was not cooked overly mild anymore, and the buffet variety was diverse. I'm not a huge fan of Indian buffets anymore, I prefer thali more, but if that's not available, I don't mind a buffet once in a while. One of the advantages of having the buffet is access to a variety of dishes without having to order them all. There were dishes with chicken, lamb, lentils, spinach, legumes. None of the curry bases were the same. The only dishes in the buffet which I didn't enjoy were the chana masala (too sweet) and the peas pulao (too oily, tastes like it was cooked in a wok with oil rather than steamed). Everything else was decent for buffet standards. The Andhra chicken curry and tandoori chicken were particular standouts with very robust flavors. Overall, I liked the non-vegetarian dishes more than the vegetarian ones. I don't think it would be fair to compare Mint to the nearby Royal Rasoi. They're very different concepts. The cooking here appeared to be more Afghan-Pak style than Indian (karahi and tandoor preparation are the chef's bread and butter). I noticed that the meat in the lamb curry was prepared exactly the same way as in the lamb pilafs at Afghani restaurants I have been to (meat is from lamb shank rather than stewed chunks, it's also cooked in a tomato base and potatoes), which shows some Afghan flair in the restaurant dishes, as this restaurant is owned by an Afghani family. Another thing caught my attention - there were south Indian dishes such as Andhra chicken and rava kesari in the buffet, which was shocking for this type of restaurant. But later on, I found out that the owners at Mint are somehow related to the proprietor at Vishnu in Irvine. It all made sense then, and explains why the Andhra chicken here tastes exactly like the one at Vishnu. In a way, the buffet at Mint was somewhat like the one at Vishnu, but dialed down in the intensity of spices. read more

Waited another 15 minutes, still call goes straight to a voicemail. Waited 30 min and same story. It's ridiculous that your employees didn't turn on the phone at the advertised open time hours, and long afterwards- they still hadn't. Do better for the public. I was excited to finally try Mint as I've been craving Indian food now that the weather has cooled down a bit. (Who am I kidding. I love Indian food and can eat it all day, every day). I always get palak paneer at Indian places. It's my litmus test and helps me gauge on an apples-apples basis how much I like an Indian place. I'll sometimes also do butter chicken or chicken tikka masala, or samosas, and their naan. But always, always palak paneer. It's just my jam, ok? This palak paneer was a maybe a 4/10. I didn't love it. As another reviewer mentioned, Mint uses a TON of oil and my palak paneer was drowning in oil. On top of that, it was super salty and not creamy enough. It's as though they subbed in oil to compensate for lack of creaminess. I started feeling icky after eating much of it due to the greasiness. Now, the garlic naan was really quite nice. And a reasonable price with good size too. I'd get this again. The white rice was good and a huge portion. I loved that because I have leftover Indian food from another place (see, I love Indian food and eat it often) that could pair with the rice. As much as I was let down by the palak paneer, I may come back to try the Mint special Karahi. It looks good. Stay tuned. read more

Simply amazing. Hands down the best Indian restaurant in the Irvine/OC area. The service was outstanding, they left nothing to be desired. The butter chicken was extremely flavorful, with the rich creamy sauce and succulent pieces of chicken. My friend had the Baryani which tasted absolutely amazing. Just picked up my dinner here and I am so excited to share how awesome the food is here. There's another Indian restaurant next to our house down the street that my family and I always go to. But over the years I have noticed their food got more salty and mild is way too spicy so most of the time the kids can't even eat it. As much as I love spicy food it was to the point where spicy was the only thing I could taste and that killed the flavor. So I took a chance and ordered here. I ordered exactly what I would typically order from an Indian restaurant. Chicken Tikka Masala, chicken tandoori and my favorite bhindi masala (a stir fried Okra). The chicken tandoori is one of the best I've had anywhere! Whole chicken leg/thighs that are sooo flavorful! The chicken masala was amazing!!!! The sauce was so rich and flavorful, very mild (not spicy at all) and was incredible with the white rice! The kids LOVED it! They couldn't get enough. The okra was fantastic, cut in small pieces so they were easier to eat and had a tiny bit of a kick but not spicy. I was pleasantly surprised the kids loved everything and ate all their food and then some! We are definitely coming back and this may just be our new favorite Indian spot. Went here last Tuesday for the lunch buffet. I tried the chicken masala, tandoori chicken, the white rice, yogurt, a yellow potato stew thing (it's one of my favorite vegetarian dishes and i can never remember its name) and all of it was delicious. The food is delicious and at $7.99 it has become my favorite indian buffet. The chicken was tender, the rice was good, and my stew thing was yummy so no complaints.
