Big fan of the basil spicy fried rice. I got mild spicy instead of very mild and it still had a very strong kick to it. Good ratio of beef to veggies and rice. The veggie spring roll is just okay, and I wish there were more than just a few leaves in the "salad". This is such a good Thai restaurant - I got a pad Thai for lunch for $12 with a spring roll and a salad with yummy dressing on it given as an appetizer with the meal. My friends got other noodle dishes, and one of them got a spicy chicken entree dish, and every single one looked amazing. I got spice level 4 out of 5 and it wasn't spicy at all for me, but the flavors were super solid for me (not too sweet). The waiter was really friendly and gave us efficient service. I'll start with the positives! The staff is very friendly, the dining room is very nice, and they're always extremely fast. Lunch comes with a complementary little salad and mini spring roll, both of which are very good. My company has gone out to lunch here multiple times and they're great at handling large crowds. That aside, I still feel like the restaurant can't get more than 3 stars. I would expect lots of seasoning and flavor from a Thai restaurant, but Mint Thai has always been on the bland side. I've had the fried rice and the Pad Kee Mao, neither of which were noteworthy. It's nice that you can customize your spice level, but be warned that it's not actually that spicy - if you really like spicy food, you can order the maximum spice level and it still won't have a huge kick. Finally, I feel like the portion sizes are a bit light, especially compared to the massive portion sizes that I've come to expect while living in Houston. TLDR; Mint Thai is a pleasant little kitchen that could be good for a midday lunch, but you shouldn't go in with high expectations. read more

Ordered medium spice and even though it has a kick to it and some flavor, overall the dish is not great on flavor with the rice it becomes quite bland. I think it is because it is watered down. Usually there is a thickness to curry but this was super thin. I feel like if they hadn't watered it down the flavor would be on point but unfortunately I won't know because this is the last time I will get it. read more

First time here. The place was empty, which was surprising with how good the food was. Maybe just a slow night. I had the basil leaf Thai style with chicken. Delicious! The egg was cooked perfectly for this dish. I ordered spice level 1, and that was a hair too spicy for me. But the flavor was still there. I started with the chicken dumplings. While they tasted good, it said they were lightly fried. These were the deep fried type, which I am not a fan of. The dipping sauce was incredible! I had to drink the left over LOL. Parking was easy as they are in a strip mall. Service was very friendly, fast, and attentive. The restaurant was clean with a simple decor. Nothing fancy and far from a hole in the wall. Lady at the front right now who answered the call on April 30 at 9:26 pm was super rude and snappy when I asked if she could add straw mushroom to my pad see ew. She said no that's not possible, we only had one kind of mushroom. I know that's a lie because the thom kha soup has straw mushroom no question. Yummy Thai food! Tucked away in the plaza right next to the stairs on the first floor. This restaurant is always so quiet and peaceful inside. Never super busy and food comes quick if you dine in or do takeout! Extremely fast service. I've ordered their Pad Thai on door dash and dined in and the consistency has always been the same. I got take out from here. The inside looks very pretty but I just did not enjoy my food. I got pad ka prow and my bf asked for level 3 and extra basil. It legitimately had 2 pieces of basil and it was not spicy at all. I got the drunken noodles level 2 and it also was not spicy at all, the food was a little bland for me and the BIGGEST ISSUE is that the oil that the food was cooked in was burned or too old I'm not sure but I could taste the burnt oil in my food. I've been to the one on the North Side and was excited to see that they had one on the South Side of Houston! Yaaaay! **Parking: Can be a bit crammed depending on the time of day you go. We lucked up and got a spot in the front. **Service: Service was great in that there was one lady who worked at the front; but there were only 5 occupied tables. She did a great job of taking our orders and topping our drinks off. **Food: We ordered a started and definitely did not read it correctly. We wanted spring rolls and ended up ordering the Goong Gabok (Golden Shrimp Rolls). In reading it lightly, I thought it was a spring roll with Shrimp, boy was I wrong. This actual dish was a deep fried whole (tail on) Shrimp wrapped in a wonton wrapper. It was good, just different than what I expected. Should've ordered the egg rolls. At least I know now what I didn't know before. Sheeeeeeeeesh!!! I also ordered Pad Kee Mao (Spicy Flat Noodles) with Chicken. It was good. I am a creature of habit, so I always get this dish and it never disappoints. Either way, this place has great food and great service. I have also ordered to go and they are pretty quick. PORTION SIZE PEOPLE! Mint Thai will not skimp you, you get a packed bowl of food for a great price. We ordered to go and the containers were piping hot and full to the brim. The padwoonsen was good, tofu was a little dry and had little flavor (but then again it is tofu) and the pad kee mao had awesome flavor. Not my absolute favorite Thai in Houston but still very good! We took my dad here and it was his fist experience with Thai food. He was really impressed! The only thing semi disappointing was that the papaya salad. I wasn't expecting it to be is served cold and hard. It was very acidic and didn't match the menu description. The lettuce wedge was difficult to cut with a butter knife. They don't have steak knives so instead they brought us back a fresh wedges that was already chopped. Not pictured is the Pad Thai which was sweeter than other places. We were craving Thai food and this was the closest place. We started off good with chicken satay, came with 4 skewers, tender and hot! The Thai tea is too sweet for our liking, the Tom Yum soup tasted like a tomato soup, and papaya salad was crunchy but no flavor. Both were very tangy, and need more flavor. The main dishes were good. We came during lunch, it's served with salad and an egg roll. My pad Thai was good, slightly sweet and spicy and good flavor. We also got beef pad see ew, it was also very flavorful and smoky aroma. We got mild but there was still a hint of spice in it. So after a long night of trying to find a Pho place, I ended up settling for Mint Thai Kitchen, which was close to where I live and I was able to call and verify that they were still able to take phone orders for take out. Since this was my first time there, I asked the waitress what she would recommend and she gave some pretty good recommendations. I ended up getting the Drunken Noodles with chicken, the Chrissy Chicken stir fry and an order of friend chicken. Upon ordering, she asked how spicy I liked my food and I told here not too spicy. I then asked her what levels of spicy they had and she told me zero to 5...so I went with some to I f comfortable for me and went with a 3 for level of spice. Which was pleasantly not bad. Now after ordering 2 entrees and an appetizer, I had asked her if it was too much food and she said to just make sure I eat all the drunken noodles first, telling me that the noodles don't taste that great the next day. This was great information, since I knew that I would more than likely have some left overs. Anyway, the experience was great and I would come here again!! I love Thai food and am always on the lookout for tasty pad thai. The key components to me are a nice amount of sauce with a strong but not overpowering savory tamarind flavor that sticks to the noodles and meat and soaks into the eggs, a good proportion of noodles/meat/add ins, and how well each component is cooked. Mint Thai has these down to perfection in their pad thai. Their prices are a little higher than other places, but the quality of the food makes up for it. This is the second time I've been here. I came several years ago with my oldest before a presentation of the nutcracker in downtown Houston. This is in a shopping strip area in Montrose, so parking was not a problem, plus it was early pre-dinner time so when we got there, we were the only ones there so right away. a few more people groups came after us. The restaurant is very clean. The people that were running. The place are extremely friendly and the service was very fast. My only complaint for my meal was it was way too much onion, and not enough pork. But the taste was incredible. The spice was a great Thai spice, hot heat level. You can order yours 0 to 5 and I ordered mine five. We got a couple appetizers, chicken skewers, and the closest thing to potstickers that we can find. They were very good. Very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their food and it's a great price and like I said wonderful service I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the Montrose area. read more

They can really use some lettuce here! The noodles and rice dishes are ok, the medium level is pretty spicy. Could use more vegetables on the noodles to add texture and color, frankly. This is my tried and true Thai take out place! We've ordered here dozens of times and it always is solid. The food is always ready very quickly and always is so delicious! The spice level can definitely be a kick - but it's amazing! We usually get medium for things. The items that are a must that we usually get include cream cheese rolls (more savory cream cheese filling than usual - very good), crispy chicken (great kick and Thai flavors make this an absolute must), green curry chicken (delicious coconut milk infused curry!), and pad see ewe (umami flavored rice noodle dish that is always a fav!!). I asked for medium heat, which was a bit more than I needed but it was still good. I'm a little bit of a wuss when it comes to Thai spices. I also wasn't a big fan of the hot tea. I'm generally not a hot tea person especially without sweetener, but since my friend ordered it and it came in a little pot with two cups I had to give it a try. My major complaint is the parking. All the spots seemed a little narrow and even rolling up at 11:30 there were almost no spots available. This'll be a Grubhub delivery review, so I can't comment on the place itself, but holy moly is the food friggin' good. The two things I always look for in *any* Thai place are heat (do they actually give you real spice) and portion size (are they generous). Mint Thai Kitchen wins in both categories with stellar results. The delivery containers were absolutely jam-packed with food. That was a good first sign. When I popped the lids off I was immediately hit by the mouth watering scent of spice. Now I'm getting excited. Not gonna lie, this is some of the best delivery Thai I've had in a long while. Pad Thai is a basic dish I usually tend to avoid, but I was stealing several mouthfuls off of my partner's plate. If you look at the pics, you can see how dark they are- its not just the sauce. They really cooked the sh*t out of it to the point where my jaw was sore after trying to chew 3 pieces. Do NOT recommend. The shrimp rolls were meh- they were basically shrimp wrapped in spring roll paper then fried. Not a great value for what you pay for. The carb fried rice was decent but could've had more crab. The pad Kee mao was very bland- I've definitely had better. It's my go to Thai dish so very disappointing. Would not order again. read more
