I came by this CVS pharmacy on the first night I was in D.C. I had stepped out of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center after watching The Capitol Steps. I needed to get some drinks to stock up my mini fridge back in the hotel. Luckily this CVS was across the street from where I watched the play. I walked around...not much since this is a small CVS. It wasn't well stocked because many of the fridges were out of order...but even considering that aside there wasn't much of a selection of items to buy. I then went to pay at the CVS.... there was a choice of either being rung up by an employee or using the self serve machines. When I went to pay... I was asked by the machine how many plastic bags I was using... I put two and I was charged an extra bag tax of 10c. I was a bit conflicted about this because one... there was no other way for me to take back my items to the hotel and although I understand that they are trying to save the environment and the oceans from plastic....5c tax a bag really isn't enough to change behaviors... anyway weird.

I love this place. The employees are friendly. The upstairs is a bit quiet but I prefer that.

Store is small, cramped, and poorly organized. Staff is also not very helpful and lines are slow. I only go here if I'm desperate.

She prescribed two medicines ( including several other combinations) that should not have been prescribed because I have had approximately 20% drop in my kidney function by taking it. I informed her that I stopped it in August 24 because I was having heart palpitations. She was trying to treat blood pressure and improve kidney function with one medication. I did not pick up one of the medications because it had been red flagged by the pharmacist. He advised me not to take it. My last visit to her in January 2025 lasted for about five minutes of her time. She told me to come back in February in spite of the fact that my blood pressure was now normal because she had honored my request to double the original blood pressure that I have been taking for over 50 years. I missed the February appointment because the cab did not arrive. That was a good thing for me because she then denied my two prescriptions (meanspirited), saying that I had to come in. Meanwhile I had to go to several doctors for other ailments like severe ear infection, wart and muscle spasm--and to the emergency room for elevated blood pressure. I sent her a photo of the reading and she lowered it in her notes. My blood pressure is fine and I am now trying to reverse the kidney function. I complained to George Washington University Primary Care and they were complicit.

When they transitioned to primary care and I had an urgent need to find a new advanced care practitioner, I came here and found Tayler Young, who is excellent. She is patient, thorough and very attentive to her patient's needs and limits. She is now basically our "family doctor". The staff here has also always been very professional, courteous and helpful. I know some are frustrated it's no longer a walk-in clinic, but once you're a patient, it's fairly easy to make appointments, get refills, etc., through MyChart. I would definitely recommend and am happy this place is part of my healthcare team.

However, it pains me to say that the quality of care, professionalism, and overall patient experience have declined significantly over the years. Last month, I had an appointment scheduled for 10:30 a.m. I arrived early, yet I wasn't seen until 1:15 p.m. There were no apologies, no consideration that I am 20 weeks pregnant, and no acknowledgment that I am a working professional who had taken time off from a full-time job. It seemed like none of that mattered. When I was finally seen, I was spoken to in a dismissive manner, as if the inconvenience caused was my fault. When I questioned the delay, I was told that they had patients back-to-back, but isn't that the very reason appointments are scheduled and spaced out? Now, at 24 weeks pregnant, I had an ultrasound scheduled for October 28th. I received a call saying the technician was unavailable and my appointment would need to be rescheduled for October 31st. Today, as I was on my way there, I received another call telling me it had to be rescheduled yet again, now for the second week of November. I also have another ultrasound scheduled around that time, and when I asked for clarification, I was simply told to "check if you still need the prior appointment." This is deeply concerning. Does a hospital not have backup staff or contingency plans in place to ensure patients are seen as scheduled? Does an entire department stop functioning because one person is unavailable? How is it acceptable that one staff member's absence disrupts care for all scheduled patients? It truly makes me question whether GW still takes its patients seriously. Has compassion and quality care become secondary? Are staff members no longer trained to communicate with empathy or handle patient concerns appropriately? It's disappointing to see such a reputable healthcare institution become increasingly careless about those who trust them with their health and well-being.

In the past the NPs would renew my medical supplies indefinitely because my condition is permanent. Now the doctor renews it for two deliveries. Went in twice, three times to ask them to complete paperwork for receiving medical supplies. They ignored my requests and/ or did not see them through. "I faxed it back but I don't do phone calls!" The doctor filled the form with an error and didn't want to contact the medical supplier. The previous doctor sent an email to a nurse but did not tell me anything. The doctor before that gave me a prescription for a box but had no idea that these medical supplies are from big box medical supply companies far away from DC. So they are clueless about a very basic medical need (ostomy bags) and how could I trust them about anything else? If they are so trivializing they have never offered a basic stool kit test, I have to SELF PAY EVERYTHING NOW. For a super low income this is just not very easy for me. I can order the stool kit test and bags from big box retailer online and no effing paperwork (yet). It's like I might as well not have? ‍

This is a review for closeknit which I guess bought this place recently?…read more I needed an annual medical and Dr. Nwankwo had availability relatively quickly (never a good sign in DC), with good reviews on ZocDoc (which is what I booked through). I got numerous phone calls and text messages with reminders about the visit, and chasing me to fill their forms ahead of it, which I thought was a bit much, but ok, I get it. The last call crossed the line I thought: it was on the day of the appointment, and I was asked to call back for important information regarding the visit. I did that and after waiting on the line for ten minutes I was told that the information was that I needed to fill in the forms (which, incidentally, they also mentioned on the voicemail asking for a call back). So, by my count, five+ unsolicited reminders even before I got to the clinic... Now, to avoid wasting time I typically fill in the forms (which, in my experience, no doctor ever reads) while in the waiting room, so I asked what's wrong with that. I was told that there were many forms and a short grace period and so I would likely lose my appointment if I don't pre-fill. Again, in my experience, typically there's a wait, particularly as my appointment was towards the end of the day, but I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and so I had a go at the forms, especially as it was meant to only take 5 minutes... Not unexpectedly, I was asked to provide documents which I had already shared via ZocDoc - e.g., my insurance card... Not unexpectedly, their crappy forms generated all sorts of problems, e.g., they refused to accept my insurance card scan (because the dimensions somehow didn't conform with their expectations, though, curiously, only for one side; I rescanned with some white space around to trick the system...). Following which I had to answer 10 (?) question on sexual orientation, activity, etc. This I found unusually detailed, to the point I half expected them to also ask for photos... But whatever, I was committed to filling in the form, though I did note that at that point they had succeeded in wasting half an hour of my time, which isn't a great first impression... It was downhill from there: It took me an hour to get to the clinic and I arrived five minutes early, only to be advised the doctor was running twenty minutes late (something I asked about when I was on the phone with them, but, of course, they never mentioned it at that point). Since that was longer than they had offered to wait for my forms, I asked if I can cancel, which, to my surprise, they allowed me to do. Ironically, had they not been so zealous in chasing that form, I would have filled it in while waiting, and the visit would have gone ahead... And okay, return trip included, they wasted two and a half hours of my life, but, reading some other reviews of closeknit (which I should have done beforehand) I feel I really dodged a bullet here... So, in a way, I am grateful to their staff for so efficiently chasing me away!

I can count on every time I come in getting seen at least 45 minutes after my appointment time despite the place never appearing busy. The male nurse does not know how to take blood properly and not only hit a nerve causing my whole arm to become sore (which never happens if taken properly), but I became extremely sick and light headed because of that and because it was so hot in the office. After I was left with a huge bruise on my arm. The male doctor (I'm bad with names) is one of those doctors that start by naming all the most serious conditions that could possibly be related to your issue first to freak you out and then ends with "or it could be a lab error or fluke". Says you need to come back so he can run a full battery of tests, but then when you do he claims the issue is actually not remotely related to what he originally freaked you out about in the first place. In my case it went from you could possibly have Hepititus C to "Oh it's because you're drinking too much vegan protein powder", but let's take more blood to confirm. All in all I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are in dire need or have no other options.
