New sushi spot in Salem. We Had to try it out. Not much parking out front. Only about 6 tables in there with a small sushi bar. Great service, very fresh sushi, and beautiful presentation. We ordered a garden salad to start which came with a delicious ginger dressing, also a avocado crab salad. We had the caterpillar roll, spicy lady roll, California roll which were all amazing. Excellent experience. You got to try this place out if you love sushi. read more

Absolutely terrific!!! We went here by accident, but so glad that we did. For a very low price, you can get quite high quality sushi. From our perspective, the classic maki rolls are truly classic and stay true to theirs flavors, just about fish and rice, and not about drenching the sushi in different kinds of sauce for presentation like other sushi places. The rice was cooked perfectly, being very soft and flavorful but not too mushy. The fish tastes fresh. 100% recommended!! read more

Wow this sushi was Amazing!!!!! I ordered the Gyoza, the Salem Maki, and a California Maki. Everything was so delicious and fresh!!

This is a very good sushi place. I enjoyed the Salem maki. The miso soup was spot on. The gyoza is perfectly crispy and delicious. The staff is at tentative and friendly. There are tables here for eating in but if you come with a large party it could be an issue. Maybe call ahead. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Extremely reasonably priced sushi. We popped in for a Saturday evening dinner. Had the sweet potato roll, tempura shrimp roll, spicy tuna roll and salmon avocado. Generous fish to rice ratio! I do with they had a few other hot menu items, but what they do, they do well! The restaurant was a bit chilly. Perhaps turn up the heat a bit. I did notice they have a thriving take out business. This is my favorite sushi place in town. Lunch specials are inexpensive and the miso is excellent. I love the avocado salad with spicy crab stick and cucumber!!! The rolls are fresh, my favorite is the spicy yellowtail because they put the panko crunch inside the roll. Anytime I have a sushi craving, this is where I always order from. I always get the same sashimi deluxe and my family orders rolls and soup. There's nothing fancy or unique about this place, but simple, good, and consistent with their service. I only wished they used a different bed of veggie with the sashimi, similar to most other sushi restaurants use...I don't know what it is but it's like a white radish type of veggie in very thin strips. All in all, this place is good enough for my family and I, who frequently order out, and I recommend giving this place a try. read more

Just realized this restaurant existed, walking in it was a small cozy and quiet place with your usual top 40 music playing. Server was nice and fast and multitasked very well since it was just him and the sushi chef. They serve mostly sushi and sushi appetizers and soups. The food was fresh, well done and the rice to rich proportion was just right. read more

I've been here twice and it is definitely my new favorite! The rice is always warm (doesn't get much fresher than that) because the chef makes the sushi as it's ordered. Easily the best sushi restaurant in Salem! And to top it off, the prices are more than reasonable. read more

The food at Minzu is excellent. Fresh and very nice presentation. The location is a bit sketchy, but that's OK. The reason for 3 stars is because their service is amateurish with a very inexperienced wait staff. This really doesn't fit a sushi restaurant and detracts from the overall experience. read more

I just got takeout from Minzu for the first time tonight. I got seaweed salad, a salmon and avocado roll, and the maki dinner special. The maki dinner special is: miso soup, tuna roll, California roll, and a shrimp tempura roll and it's very reasonably priced at about $13. Everything was fresh and delicious and well-presented. The shrimp tempura was probably my favorite. It was ready for pickup on time. I have a feeling the food would have been even better if I had dined in (by the time I was eating, it was probably 30 min after pickup), so I plan to do that next time. I wish the maki dinner special allowed you to choose your rolls like the lunch special does. That said, the maki lunch special looks great and I plan to get that next time 3 rolls, you choose from a list. I only did not give five stars because I have had better sushi, but I do think this is the best sushi locally, especially for the price. read more

I was browsing Yelp this evening looking for something new. I noticed the high ratings for this sushi restaurant in Salem. With all the construction on Canal Street in the past year I never noticed this unassuming place while driving by. Anyway, my wife and I tried it and I really is as good as everyone says. The sushi is really good and the prices are good too. The service was personable and the restaurant is totally clean. I noticed our server put on a disposable glove to add lemon wedges to our water. This place is officially the best Sushi place around. I was previously a Gourmet Garden (still a great restaurant) fan, but I think this place blows it out of the water! I would eat here 7 nights a week if I could. The Minzu roll is incredible, and even just the simple veggie rolls are perfectly executed and very fresh. Everyone I've dealt with at this restaurant is super friendly, and will make any special accommodations if needed. As a grand opening special they offer 15% off your entire order over $20, which is so nice of them considering their regular prices are so cheap and reasonable anyway.
