This was my first ever hibachi experience and I found it so fun! The hibachi chef/artist really knew how to work the crowd and be entertaining. The three different sushi rolls that I got were tasty, if slightly overpriced for what I received. Ultimately though, you are paying for the hibachi experience. I personally love Hibachi and saw the reviews for this place and figured my husband and I would give it a go. On a positive note it's open pretty late so it's a spot to go to for late night eats. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as we hopped it would be. Our soup was cold and the noodles and rice had little to no flavor. The Scallops were a good size and tasty and the NY Strip was a little more overcooked than I would have preferred. My lemon drop martini was visually appealing and was definitely Instagram worthy but didn't taste right at all. Even the "show" was a little underwhelming. Shockingly flavorless. I had Drunken Noodles with chicken and not only did they come swimming in oil and noodle-water, but the oil and water were the only seasonings. Drunken noodles should be spicy, savory, sweet and have crunchy fresh vegetables to contrast the slippery soft rice noodles. It should have Thai chilies, oyster sauce, garlic, Thai basil, dark soy sauce. These were just wet, oily noodles and dry strips of chicken breast. I added about 1/4c sriracha and then it just tasted like oily sriracha. This was a huge miss. The one star is for the nice bartender and the empty bar. There are so many great places for Thai food and this is definitely not one. Leave it for the bland tourists who think mayonnaise is too spicy. read more

Whenever we're in Salem, we always order from Witch City Hibachi. It's our favorite spot for sushi in town. The Hex Roll ($22.95) is a must-have for us every time. It's mango, avocado, and tempura lobster in soy paper then topped with spicy crab and seaweed. It's a luxe treat of lobster that's cooked perfectly. I also love their sweet shrimp sashimi. It's not super common in my neck of the woods and it's always so fresh from here. I also really enjoy the Orange River Roll ($15.95) which is spicy salmon topped with more salmon and a special sauce. If there's salmon, I'm gonna order it. The Bo Bo Booie Roll ($17.95) is also delicious, filled with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, crab, avocado, and crunchies then wrapped in soy paper. The staff is always super nice whenever we come in, and the restaurant itself is a pretty big space with warm, inviting colors and vibes. Salem is just full of lines in October. Waited 45 mins for breakfast and waited 50 mins here for dinner. The wait for habachi was about 2 hours so we opted for regular dining. While we waited we decided what we wanted to order: avocado rolls, gyozas, chicken & shrimp teriyakis which comes with a side of soup and salad. We ordered the moment we sat down but luckily the kitchen was turning food over fast! Don't be fooled by this spot thinking they churn out mediocre food because they're busy. Came here for dinner after a huge book event in Peabody. Celebrating my friend and I because it was also our birthday. This was some of the best Hibachi I've had in a while. I ordered the Hocus Pocus Punch and the Chicken & Scallop Hibachi Combo. The service was impeccable. Such a fun experience to include as part of my friend's Bachelorette party weekend! The 8 of us ladies were hungry after a full day of activities in Salem and wanted an indulgent dinner, so I went on Yelp and found this place which sounded perfect, and in reality it was! Our hibachi chef was amazing. He served us ladies well and made the experience enjoyable by giving all of us who wanted it, sake shots through a squirting bottle and and also threw Zucchini into our mouths. The food was genuinely delicious, and you could tell they take pride in everything they serve. The pumpkin martini was perfect for the season--it hit the spot so much that I've even recreated it at home for my family. It was a cold, rainy day, and the ambiance couldn't have been better. With a montage of Tim Burton films on the TVs and spooky music playing in the background, it felt like we were part of a Halloween movie. We started with miso soup to warm up, followed by crab rangoons that were fantastic. The drunken noodles tasted like pad Thai with wide noodles, I wouldn't suggest coming here unless you want hibachi, or other Japanese food. The hibachi came with soup, not miso, but chicken soup. It was interesting because it tasted like chicken noodle soup and had mushrooms like I would see in miso. They also give you a salad with the classic ginger dressing. The place had cute decorations and staff were wearing Beetlejuice costumes so that was fun. The food & service? Not so much. I felt rushed from the moment I entered even though the place was empty. We came to Salem to celebrate my wife's bday. We hadn't really done any research on restaurants out there. We just decided to figure it out when we got hungry. Let me tell you, that was the best decision. We didn't get to experience the hibachi due to us being super hungry and the wait was crazy. We opted for a regular dinner table but we still ordered shrimp hibachi. Everything was so flavorful and just delicious. Nothing came out cold that wasn't supposed to. The only thing we didn't care for was their version of "yum yum". That was plain in comparison to their ginger sauce, their ginger dressing in the salad and the spicy mayo we ordered on the side. The volcano salad was the best part. My wife makes something similar to this and was excited when we found a version of it out in the wild. The grills are set up a little differently here but it works well. The menu is good and offers some good Thai dishes as well. The gyoza was good, a solid 7/10. The Hocus Pocus drink was good and I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. The salad was good but the miso soup was a little too salty. The rice is really good but the noodles were just okay. The chicken was teriyaki which I wasn't expecting because it didn't say it on the hibachi list. Over all the meal was good and the location and atmosphere were also good. Unfortunately we had to wait a little while after we sat for others to fill the seats before we could place our orders. If I am to award points, I will award them for showmanship. When it comes to the food and service, there is definitely room for improvement. This is my first and only experience with hibachi, so I don't know if the sequence of rice/noodles first, protein second, and vegetables last is standard. I will, however, note that either you are left with cold rice/noodles by the time the meat lands on your plate, or you stuff yourself full of rice first. Maybe that's the idea? You are so loaded with carbs that once you finish the meat, all you know is, "I'm stuffed!" ... then why are veggies after the protein? While the portion size of carbs and veggies is large, the protein amount is meager. I had the opportunity to try the Cab Rangoons, Steak and Scallop Hibachi, Spicy Tuna Tartare, and to 'steal' a couple sushi rolls and a few noodles. A significant area where Witch City Hibachi, Inc. struggles is the homogeneity across the board. While the sushi was pleasant and tasty, the different rolls were so similar that it was hard to tell the difference. Spicy Tuna Tartare? Good quality fish and excellent heat level, but the same stuff as in the sushi! Regarding the hibachi: the rice was fine as something fried on the griddle, and the steak, scallops, and veggies were also all A-OK. The issue is the same as with the sushi; the sauces, spices, and general flavor were the same across the board. No differentiation. Furthermore, using an already salty (and sweet) sauce that reduces over the grill makes the salt level all the more intense. Soup and salad offered at the start of the meal were okay for freebies. The soup was mostly broth, moderately savory but heavy on salt. The salad was roughly chopped, laying in a pool of watery dressing as if it were ladled on. Not terrible, but not very inspired either. Crab Rangoons were middle of the road. They were fried fresh, but I found the filling too sweet, lacking crabbiness and that tiny bit of funk that makes Rangoons great. Where it comes to the service: The Hibachi chef did the regular entertaining; throwing bits of vegetables into mouths, onion fire volcano, and other bits of flame, making the grill ignite. Fun, for sure, but only so many times. When it came to table service - can y'all not be in such a hurry to take plates from under us? Bowls of salad were taken away while we were still enjoying it. A Rangoon in hand and sauce ramekin still with sauce, taken away - no more sauce for you! Serious advice: make sure the plate/bowl is licked clean, or ask! Yet, I spent five minutes looking around for a server when I needed a water refill. read more

Greatly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The staff were friendly but lacking. We sat at the bar while waiting on our table, and the bartender asked for our order four times and again when creating the check. He was very confused and seemed lost. He also stated he couldn't make certain drinks so he asked the other bartender to make it. And He broke three glasses in the hour we were there. At the table (not hibachi), our waitress was good. We received our alcoholic drinks after our food, which we didn't blame the waitress for since we previously watched the bartender.
