Amazing breakfast here! The location is centrally located and about 7-10 minute walk into town. The room we stayed in had a comfortable bed, tiny porch area, tv, fireplace and small bathroom. Overall a good place to stay with free parking. I did find some hiccups with access to free water (2 bottles free, after costs), shared fridge was small, odd front door & the staff were quirky with particular ways of doing things. We arrived 15 mins before check in and were almost redirected not to come yet---checkin time is firm 3pm. With my stay, I have to say my breakfast was hands down amazing. They do require a time slot and starts at 8am. read more

We loved our stay at the Mira Monte Inn! The location is perfect, within walking distance to everything in town, & a quick drive to the entrance to Acadia. From the moment of check-in we were impressed with the staff. Catherine took the time to show us the map of the area & share recommendations for where to go, what to avoid & the best times for all we were interested in. We liked that our room had both an interior & private exterior entrance with coded locks. We spent time sitting on our private porch & enjoying the view of the grounds. We also felt our room was a nice size, as was the bathroom, & it was stocked with all we needed for a good stay. It was definitely dated, but we felt that this was intentional as an antique aesthetic. Our favorite feature was the hot breakfast. Each day the two options for the following morning were posted, along with a sign-up sheet for you to pick your time & menu option. At your time, you simply pick a place to sit of the many options around the house & one of their summer staff comes to serve you. They begin with drinks, offer a morning treat of the day, & then bring your hot breakfast order. My wife and i stayed here for 2 nites.we had a very mixed experience. First,the good things. The location is wonderful.it's within an easy walk to downtown bar harbor. We did not hear much steeet noice.nice. The mediocre. The breakfast menu looked Nice. We were so Tired from out outdoor activities that we never made it to the time slots. For a locale that has so many sports choices,we would have preferred to be anle to amble down to the dining room for food or snacks.they seemed insistant on appointed times ,so when we slept in,we went to get food at restaurants. Now the negative stuff- they demamded that we check in around 3pm.when we got there exactly then,we were Told that we had to return at least 30-60 minutes later. We met friends and returned after dinner and there was no one there to help us.we Could not find our room . Evidently someonw called from an indiana phone numer that my phone classified as spam. If someone had spent 1 Minute to text us ,we would not have panicked . One morning, the maid service came to clean our room.we asked for 20 minutes to depart and left in that time and the room was never cleaned. Our room looked like it was a storage area for a yard sale.twice as much furniture as the room needed .there was no room for our luggage. The staff was incredibly friendly. The location was convenient to downtown restaurants, and close to a hiking trail. I wish I had done more research on the particular room we stayed in. I thought we were staying in the main house, which I liked the aesthetic of more. The Rocklynn is basic in comparison. But that's my own fault for not doing the research. read more

Backstory: This location has new owners who have only recently taken ownership of this B&B. Both owners were kind and conversational. You can also tell that they are starting to put their own unique style and touch which might take a while since it's a big house. Overall wonderful stay, somethings that could change would be updating furniture, new ac unit (very loud in our room), I'm sure that will come in time. I am not sure if these people are being victimized by trolls or what. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained (very tidy beds of flowers as well as tiny tables to have a glass of wine) and our room (St Saveur) is perfect. Everything is immaculately clean and there are toiletries and everything we could want in the room. They also provided a roll-away bed for our son (which is a TIGHT fit in such a small room, but it works). Amazingly well-run and pleasant. We came here after 3 days camping in the park, so the jacuzzi in our room is to die for. read more

This adorable little inn just outside of the center of town served all of our needs beautifully for our weekend get away. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The woman who worked in the evening gave us a little tour upon our arrival. The next evening she was able to speak knowledgeably about local restaurants both from personal and guest experience. The woman that checked us out the last morning could have been a little nicer, but she certainly wasn't rude or cold. The owner is a little spit fire of a woman who has lived on the island her whole life. She can talk to you about when the leaves turn, the history of the sea life and all the attractions Bar Harbor has to offer without batting an eye. The hotel itself is fairly typical with traditional flowery wallpaper and various antiques everywhere. Fortunately, none of that is over done to the point of being sickening or stuffy. I actually found the mish-mash of pieces quaint. And then there was our room. Balcony, wood (okay, fake log) burning fireplace (okay, stove), two person jacuzzi tub and king size bed. It was everything we had hoped to get out of a room for less than we expected. Many of the rooms have at least one of these amenities, if not all. My only complaint is really that I wish the bed weren't so firm - I had to keep turning in the night. There's a common fridge in the dining room if you care to leave leftovers or chill a bottle of wine. There's also a piano for common use. Breakfast buffet in the morning was mind blowing. Different pastries, a different egg bake each day, blueberry muffins. The coffee was very good. And you have to try the steamed eggs. For an added bonus, check out their special in early May. I believe it's stay one night, get the second night free the first three weeks of May when you bring a $35 check made out to Habitat for Humanity for each of your "free" nights. If I could give this a minus rating I would. This was the worse B&B we ever stayed at. Many of the reviews are not genuine. The rooms are well beyond 'quaint' , they are worn out old. The grounds were overgrown and neglected. The room floors dirty, sheets dingy, I could go on and on but don't be fooled by the pictures, they are very old. There is a reason there are always rooms available and booked at all the other B&B's. read more

Very nice stay. Rooms were spacious for a B&B and very clean. The Innkeepers were very friendly and helpful as it was our first visit to the area - very solid advice on Acadia Park and the surrounding restaurants. While it is on a busy street, it is very quiet at night. Easy walk to the downtown area and shore walk but far enuf away to not be in the thick of things. Highly recommend. read more

It's more of a 2.5 but we will let that one go. Wanted to stay in Bar Harbor but neither close to Main street (which could be a noisy zoo) or way far away from Main Street so went hunting for a place to stay for 3 nights and eventually settled here. Who knew that after Labor Day it would be so crowded on the island! Had to pay half of stay in advance and ended up in a room in the main house. The surroundings are pretty. It is a straight shot up the road to get into Acadia (driving that is) a nice walk to go for eats either on Main st. or any of the side street eateries. Walking distance to a grocery store as well. Many of the guests there at the time were repeat guests and some were already booking for next year. And now to the bones of this review. The decor is interesting as it looks as if they just gathered antiques from where they found them. Not many of the serving plates and cups matched but I suppose that can be kitschy. Breakfast, while good, was a case of if you didn't get down there within and hour/ hour half of start you'd be left with next to nothing. They had fruits, breads, muffins (best blueberry muffins evah) cereal, coffee tea and juice, steamed eggs (yeah I said steamed) and everyday was two egg bakes ie. like a crustless quiche; one with meat one without. Those things would fly out of there and they would only make two each day the size of a brownie pan for a full house of people. In the afternoon it was wine and cheese and crackers but after seeing someone grab the cheese to slice it I never went back. There is only one small fridge that the guests can use and it's like being at work - label your stuff if you want to stash anything in there. They sell bottled water for 50cents too but coffee and tea is almost always available all day. Our room though is where I was not happy. Sleep number bed was fine, smallish tv was fine, and then we stop. Room had the smell of a 200 year old home, furniture was very very old (the dresser had drawers that stuck always) a closet that wasn't even full sized (the door stuck there all the time too and the hangers hung at an angle to fit), a nice fireplace in the room which we sadly didn't get to use, and a shower that had low water pressure, never really got hot water and was very small. There was AC in the room but in a weird place. The vanity was outside of the bathroom and the AC was right behind that which meant while running the AC if you were brushing your teeth the AC was blasting the back of your head. Maybe another room would've been better but who knows! If old and quaint is your thing then you will enjoy this place but it didn't work out as planned for us. Maybe another B&B next time we visit. read more

My husband and I stayed here 30 years ago on our honeymoon and had loved it. We recently stayed here for our 30th anniversary too. Different room as I booked late and they only had one available for our stay. The room was gorgeous and had a nice jacuzzi tub, a fireplace, a few chairs and table, and a nice little porch where we could sit and also leave and enter the B&B. The room was kept very clean and tidy. The breakfast daily was great and I loved that they kept it open until ten as I'm a late riser. The breakfast was a lot more now than it had been 30 years ago. Mostly pastries, cereal, fruit, yogurt but they also had an egg dish. One day they had pancakes which were excellent. One guest asked a few mornings for her eggs prepared differently and even though it wasn't typical, they still accommodated her. The people who run this are so friendly and helpful. It was nice that they took the time to sit and chat if everything was running smoothly. And the snacks in the afternoon were yummy. Just cheese and crackers and deviled eggs, but it was a nice way to keep the hunger at bay until you could get to dinner. The downtown was so close and a nice walk from the B&B. It was the first thing I did every morning. Yet the place is very convenient to the main road to the rest of the island. The price is about what you'd pay at most B&Bs in this area but they have a number of rooms with different features so there are choices. I thought it was so sweet that when we got in our room, there was a jar of homemade jam waiting plus a few little cards that said Welcome Back and Happy Anniversary. This was a good place. The room and bathroom were nice. Breakfast was included and was adequate. The only hard part about breakfast is they don't serve until 8 which is not convenient for early risers who want to hike or get an early start. The afternoon snack from 4-6 was nice. They served wine with it but I had tea instead so don't know the quality of the wine. It was nice but the place needed a bit of sprucing up. It is a bit "tired". read more

We had a terrible experience with the innkeeper here. As a seasoned b&b traveler, I was shocked by the lack of hospitality and just plain rudeness as it is unlike anything I have ever experienced. We began with a slight dispute about the confirmation policy and proceeded to be treated like most unwelcome guests, to the point where the innkeeper called our room to yell at us in the most unprofessional manner. Quaint, affordable b&b's are too plentiful in Bar Harbor to waste your money here. read more

This B+B was super clean and walking distance to everything in town, which was great. A big downer, though, was that we chose this spot hoping to "splurge" a little during our wintery April vacation. It was a little more pricey than some other off-season in-town rates and did not include breakfast, but we thought if we weren't going somewhere warm, let's spend more for a bigger place with a fireplace. The size was fine, but it just wasn't nice: the floors were uneven, outdated carpet and wall paper (and so many doilies!), the fireplace was just a dura-flame log and the jacuzi didn't work. We are frugal travelers, so all this really bummed me out. I will never spend more for a few "luxuries" again. Like another reviewer, we also found the owner to be very short and rude to us. Stay at another spot that has smaller rooms, but includes breakfast. You'll probably spend most of your time at Acadia or outside the room anyway. We found a lot of other B+B's that seemed really nice. This place is totally not worth it! read more

We stayed here for two nights. We stayed at the Holbrook the night before. That was great compared to this place. Check in was like a Chinese fire drill. It was like we surprised them that the 6 rooms we were occupying arrived. The rooms were nice but kind of dated. Clean but tired. The food was ok but not great. Just no energy to the place. We felt it was like we were a bother being there. Needs an update and more upbeat staff. read more

Our family booked an early August trip to Maine during the middle of July. Living in the middle of the country, we soon realized that we were lucky to find any place in Bar Harbor. Once we arrived, we realized that we should have looked a little harder. The Mira Monte Inn was featured in each travel book we purchased. It sounded ,lovely and quaint, while within easy walking distance of downtown. We booked a two room suite in a second large home that was part of their property. Fortunately the suite was on the first floor. Upon opening the door, we nearly ran onto the refrigerator/stove/sink. The tiny kitchen entry led to a living area, furnished with castoffs. The adjacent bath featured an enormous spa tub with a tiny shower head, minimal sink and a toilet behind the door. The bedroom's canopy bed had seen better days. The floors were uneven, as this building was certainly very old. Like all old B&B's, a roaring AC unit took some getting used to, and we were happy to have it. Was the room charming and romantic? No. It was serviceable. Like another reviewer, the breakfast was a haphazard affair with guests almost running into each other in e dining room. Coffee was in one spot and often ran out. The typical rolls and fruit were pedestrian. The "chef" told us that he could make eggs to order. I can do that as well, but that doesn't make me a chef. The owners were pleasant, but the woman who checked us in talked way too much. We just wanted our key to the room, not a lesson in how to eat a lobster. In my opinion, the owners have a steady stream of guests through the Mira Monte Inn. There are so many guests that the owners have unknowingly let their standards slip many, many notches, given the what we paid. They should go from room to room and perform a very thorough updating and cleaning, not that it is dirty, but certainly dingy and disappointing. It certainly could have been much worse. It certainly could have been much better. I suspect that, like all conscientious business owners, they would like to do their best. They have so many guests that they don't have to do their best and still have a steady stream of unknowing customers. I would be very, very surprised if they have returning guests. I would urge travelers to pass by the Mira Monte Inn. There are some very nice properties down a side street that were significantly better. If we return to Bar Harbor, we certainly will not stay there. My advice is that if you have to stay there, it is okay. If you don't have to stay there, you will probably find a better B&B. read more
