I was craving ramen so badly so I came back here after one mediocre visit. I am glad I gave another try! They have added black garlic tonkotsu ramen, and it is good! Still the ramen soup is not really authentic, but with generous sprinkle of white pepper (must have), it is good! The noodle portion is very generous compared to other ramen places. This place is a hit or miss. Their snowball roll can be so good... Like literally so good! But the last couple years I keep trying to come back here and every time it tastes really gross. I usually order the udon soup, and the snowball roll comes out different every time... Hit or miss. lower rating because the manager is extremely difficult to deal with whenever you do not like the food. Somebody needs a customer service class. Don't tell me "that's just the way udon soup tastes" maybe try using fresh mushrooms and seaweed that doesn't taste like it's been sitting on top of scallops. it's pathetic when a business owner tries to be right over a customer saying they are unhappy with food when they could just kindly remake it. This place is absolutely fantastic! Their sushi, rice, and entrees were all incredible. It is a small restaurant, but all three of us were blown away by the amazing food! I ordered an extra sushi roll afterward just for myself, basically for desert, because it was so delicious! I will now be coming here whenever I am in Escondido! After seeing all the yelp reviews we had to try Mirin Cafe and I'm so glad we did. We were immediately seated & given menus. My daughter ordered the pork fried rice which was ok (it had corn which we weren't use to) it lacked in flavor and seemed a little dry. I had the pork Volcano Romen which is in fact spicy (They don't mess around when they say it's spicy) i love it. My husband & son each had yakisoba that was very flavorful. We tried the Snow Ball Roll & Salmon Lemon Roll and they did not disappoint. Our server was very friendly & attentive the whole time refilling our water without asking & making sure we were ok but without being annoying. We will definitely go back & try more items on the menu. read more

I love this place. The ramen is amazing! I've tried quite a few things but I always go back to the ramen. Gyoza and tempura are great, yakisoba is delicious. The menu is pretty diverse with teriyaki and sushi as well. So you don't have to totally agree on what you for dinner. The service is always great. Things come out quick, hot and delicious. It could likely just be my taste preferences, but it seems like their fish is always a little bit closer to room temperature than I'm comfortable with. Having worked in Kearny Mesa for years I can say the ramen isn't comparable to Tajima or RakiRaki. The pork was really small and could of been a bigger. We originally ordered Edamame prior to our meal. For reasons unknown it never arrived. Our waiter then decided to bring it out mid way through our meal. This Cafe is definitely not authentic Japanese food! I have been eating curry for almost 70 years! I have Never been served Katsu curry with 1/2 cup of sauce! Almost every Japanese restaurant covers the rice with Sauce! Not Mirin Cafe. They give you 6 tiny pieces of Katsu, 2 cups of rice and 1/2 cup curry sauce. It didn't Cover half the rice! When I asked for more sauce for the rest of the rice, I was told that would be an additional Charge of $3.00 I asked if the owner was Japanese and was told no! That explains the small amount of curry sauce! I think the Vietnamese owner should try curry at a real japanese Restaurant! Them he would know what a Katsu Curry meal is suppose to consist of! That was 4 months ago. We've been to Mirin Cafe at least a dozen times. To say I love this restaurant is putting it mildly. Found this place via Yelp. Great cafe with decent prices. Good meats with the entrees. The yakiudon is one of the better ones I've ever eaten. The yakisoba is equally as good, with a mild sauce. You can extra veggies for $1. The teriyaki bowls are a good deal too. Well made, not overcooked. And it doesn't feel like boiled meat with a sauce (like some other places do). I discovered this awesome little place with my son one day for lunch. It was a check and see type of lunch stop. Well... good thing we stopped. I have become a regular patron and have tried almost everything on the menu. Which is very well priced... low. But with the cost of the meal there is not a lack of taste or lack in quantity. Very authentic tasting. They make great sushi rolls. But they're not a sushi restaurant. When I'm asked ...yes that question..."what do you wanna eat?" I almost always say "Mirin". If I always said it I would be there every day. They have Mochi! They have a drive thru. (Note: call first it helps) this is a small place and can get busy. But for the sake of the great meal be patient please. They use fresh fish and veggies. They have the best noodles in town. The staff is very attentive and friendly. They are a family business. This place is very good. I liked eating here while visiting family. Good sushi and udon. The server made me feel like an inconvenience because I have a severe tuna allergy and need some accommodation. He asked me "how allergic are you?" and eventually told I can be helped only because it wasn't busy. I already feel really embarrassed in this situation (I'm allergic to tuna but LOVE sushi, I can't help it!!) so I left. Update: I have received a reply from the chef which was basically a "sorry not sorry". I am supposed to be happy that they didn't lie to me about cross contamination and that basically yes, my allergies are an inconvenience because I asked for a washing of the knives after every roll. I did not ask for that. I asked for knives to be washed after the last person's order-- literally every other restaurant does this. I didn't ask for them to wash the boards either. I merely suggested it because other restaurants have done this for me. I'm not some difficult customer. I left so that they wouldn't have to worry about this inconvenience. Also because I have to carry an epi pen around because of my allergies a "there will probably be cross contamination" is a gamble I didn't want to take. Funny she mentioned the crab substitution, they were going to charge me extra for getting salmon instead and I said fine. Also, with avocado being so expensive you would think that would help a restaurant out. I didn't give any attitude or make a scene. This used to be the place to go for ramen. Last two times the ramen broth had no flavor. Thought it might just be a one time problem and went back for a retry. Horrible!! Never again...child employees were also having an argument while the adults were away about sports and talking about the ethicality of sexuality and going to therapy. Totally unprofessional and actually uncomfortable for the 4 people at our table. When the adults reentered the premises the child employees suddenly were silent. Very sad because my family would always go here when we were in Escondido. We'll go anywhere else before going back. Seems like most foods are spicy. Tonkatsu mirin ramen came out but was a little too spicey for me to enjoy it as a whole. Mirin fries could have been bigger portion for the amount they charge. Teriyaki chicken bowl was a good size for the kids to share. read more
