My friends and I went to Misawa for dinner Sunday. The restaurant is spacious and doesn't give off the typical hibachi vibe which in my opinion is a good thing. The server and hostess were very nice in accommodating us even though I mistakenly made the reservation for 5:30p instead of 5p (we arrived at 5p) and we had to change (lower) the party size. The waitress was very attentive and made sure we had refills on our beverages. I got the sushi combination which lets you pick out 8 pieces of sushi and either tuna or a California roll. All of it was delicious! My friend ordered calamari, I've had better, these were chewy. and shared it with me. My other friends got the assistive device roll which they all enjoyed. My other friends all enjoyed their food. The portions were decent and the price wasn't bad. Though it is a little further out than I typically like to go I'd definitely go back! read more

I had my heart set on sushi, but my wife through me a curve ball and ordered a Rainbow Poke bowl. So, I decided to skip the sushi and try the Chef Special Yakisoba. We started with miso soup, the only disappointment in our lunch. The soup was served barely warm, very mild, and exceptionally salty. My wife's Rainbow Poke bowl Started with a base of rice and topped with fresh veggies and 4 types of fish. I'm not a fan of poke bowls, but this one was pretty good. More importantly, my wife loved it. My Chef special Yakisoba was excellent. Served piping hot, the noodles were smothered with beef, shrimp and chicken. Pile on a fried egg and that's a pretty special dish. Service was friendly, with the server stopping by every now and then, but the kitchen was slow. We waited quite a while for our soup and hot tea. I don't know if the problem was the kitchen or the server was daydreaming. But nothing that would spoil a nice meal at a very welcoming restaurant. read more

This has become one of my favorite places to get sushi. I don't get to come here often but when I do, it is always excellent. It was my boyfriend's first time there. We ordered the house salad, Kani (squid) salad, and a seaweed salad along with six rolls. My boyfriend's favorite sushi roll was Redbull. The steak was nicely torched and cut thinly so it was the perfect portion. The sauces were perfectly complementary. In fact, we enjoyed all of the rolls that we ordered which doesn't happen often. The Kani salad was something I don't usually order but I was highly impressed. I love squid but there are times I am afraid they would be overcooked so I'm weary to order it at times. I was pleasantly surprised how tender the squid was cooked and prepared. The sauce in the salad was in was very flavorful. It became one of my favorite parts of our meal, too bad I forgot to take a picture of it because we quickly devoured it. I ordered our seaweed salad to go, so I could enjoy it at home. It wasn't crowded in the restaurant. We came at dinner time on a Monday, there were a few other tables of people there. We were sat right away and our server kindly greeted us shortly. The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. We felt very comfortable. Our server Cha was excellent as well, and was kind and friendly, courteous, and also prompt, and efficient. My boyfriend's birthday was coming up and our server surprised us with a special dessert, which was the tempura cheesecake. The batter was light and airy and the cheesecake delicious. My boyfriend and I often eat out and we must say this was one of favorite dining experiences! We took about three rolls home because we got full from the salads. His niece didn't come with us and likes sushi as well so we planned on bringing her some. We brought home the leftover rolls and she finished all of the rolls by herself in an instant. We Arrived today with my wife, oldest daughter and her best friend. The menu is decent sized so we took a few minutes and carefully picked out our orders. Service was fast and solid. We started with a tempura calamari. It was was a bit over cooked but still solid. Not as good as other tempura calamari we have had. We got 5 different sushi's rolls. We got Pacific heat, miss veedol, playboy, Cali cream and faithful. Faithful was my favorite tasting one followed by the moss veedol. But they were all pretty solid. Overall nice intimate place with good sushi and solid pricing. Total was only just over $60. So not bad at all for a sushi establishment. Calamari not the greatest but outside of that we had a good time and experience. I'm sure we will come back eventually. read more

We had a superb dinner tonight at Misawa. To be quiet honest, I didn't know this place existed until today. It's located off Bardstown Rd in Fern Creek so battling that traffic isn't very fun. The place is very cozy and inviting inside. There's not many tables so it's a good idea to make reservations ahead of time like we did. I started the evening with a house salad which was so fresh and delicious. I saw that the goyza came highly recommended so I order that as an appetizer to share. It came as a surprise to me that even my 3 year old loved it. His meal of fried rice and shrimp was a little on the salty side with too much sauce. He likes his food pretty plain Jane. I got the perfect combination roll and was very impressed by the flavors and sauces. The service was so nice and friendly. Just a top notch experience all around. Our server Joanna also recommended the Derby roll, and I ended up loving the dish too! The seared scallop is the perfect addition to the roll, as the smokey taste from the seared side of the scallop complemented the delicate freshness of the scallop and shrimp. For the third roll, we decided to try a deep-fried roll. Their Sunday Morning roll is a spin on the staple deep-fried sushi roll-- it still has cream cheese, but with salmon replacing the usual spicy crab inside. I tried to call the owners of this restaurant to share my feedback prior to posting, but when I called only a supervisor was available, so I am posting this with hopes they can improve. I also need to share that in Sept of 2023 I was in Japan for 12 days, so I saw and ate legit Sushi. Ordered a sashimi platter and some Nigiri. The pieces were very large, however, the Tuna seemed not fresh, the yellow tail was great. The shape of the sushi was very inconsistent, two pieces were "balls of rice" not the traditional oblong pieces that support the fish. The taste of the rice was okay, but did not seem to be traditional "vinegared rice". The decorative Daikon radish was a pile of wet; first time I ever had it soaking wet; they need to learn from other restaurants how to dry it out or not use it at all. They also had no shiso leaves and the scallop was definitely not fresh. I hope by sharing these details they can improve. read more

I just had my birthday there and the waiter was incredible. Very nice and patient with my family members who weren't very knowledgeable about Japanese food. Misawa is a very good Sushi/Hibachi style restaurant located just moments from a very popular Japanese sushi establishment well known to the area. I was a bit skeptical of trying something new but decided to give it a go after seeing the wait times at the alternative. We were quickly seated, orders taken and served. The wait staff was super friendly, even asking for any recommendations to improve ours or other customers experience. I opted for the teriyaki salmon hibachi dinner and a couple sushi rolls. The salmon was cooked to perfection and paired with the fried rice and vegetables, tasted wonderful. While everything was delicious, the prices seemed a little high on sushi and thus docked a star based on such. All in all, Misawa is a great dining experience that could very well consume some of the business from nearby sushi establishments. read more

We dined at Misawa Thursday evening and are always satisfied with the service and quality food. This feels like a family owned restaurant based on the regular staff that acknowledges repeat customers (which we qualify). The fried calamari is unique with thick cuts and honestly the best I have ever had. The dipping sauce is similar to yum yum sauce but with additional tangy taste which pairs well together. The Derby roll is always fantastic with a nice variety of sushi ingredients with an impressive presentation. This is a staple roll for our family to order. The crunch and yum yum rolls are similar to each other and are a great choice if you like crabstick style sushi. We ask for yum yum sauce on the side as well. They had half priced wine on Thursday but I opted for an Asahi beer. They provide a frosted glass for easier drinking. Misawa is a great sushi restaurant with an intimate setting and less crowded than Sake Blue down the street which always has long waits. We will be back based on the consistent great service and food we receive every time we visit. read more

I travel for work and eat sushi frequently and I can honestly say that it was one of the best places I've had. I also got the Chicken fried rice and it was perfect. I love finding a new Japanese place that has both sushi and hibachi because my fiancé loves sushi and I do not. My fiancé's sushi and my chicken hibachi from Misawa did not disappoint. We got takeout and originally tried to use their online ordering function but there was some kind of mistake that charged an additional fee when I tried to select my protein for the hibachi. The online ordering site also said that it would take 50-55 minutes so I decided to call instead. When I placed my order over the phone, they only told me 20 minutes and it was just about ready when I arrived. I had kind of a long drive home but our appetizers and hibachi stayed hot! Our only food complaint was that the spring rolls were dripping in oil, so much that the styrofoam box had a layer of it in the bottom. They were really good though if they had just been a little less greasy! They might have a few kinks to work out on their online ordering, but I will definitely go back when we are in the Fern Creek area. read more

People who've never had hibachi before will think it's alright. But if you've had the real deal then this is an unfortunate experience.
