I have tried just about every sushi spot in Louisville, and Oishii is my favorite. The location is convenient, but parking is a nuisance - their lot is tiny. For reasons I have yet to contemplate and unpack, I don't really look at ordering sushi as a fine-dining experience where the service and the venue and the decor and the menu diversity all factor in much. To me, either your sushi rolls are top-notch or they're not. And by this rubric, Oishii is unrivaled in Louisville, KY. One can argue that Sapporo's happy hour is a better value, or that the Dragon King's Daughter's bento box is the best bang for your buck sushi lunch. But no one can accurately claim to have better sushi than Oishii. We dined at Oishii Sushi - it's somewhere I've always wanted to try but never got around to it. It's usually pretty crowded. We ended up stopping by on a Saturday night but came in past dinner hour around 7:30 so we were seated immediately. The menu is more extensive than I thought it would be and includes simple sushi rolls, speciality rolls, teriyaki plates, etc. We ordered a California roll, crunch munch roll, and rainbow roll and the teriyaki chicken plate with fried rice and vegetables. The sushi only took about 20 minutes and the portions were big. The sushi was fresh and there was a large portion of ginger and wasabi. The chicken dish was okay - I wouldn't recommend upgrading to the fried rice. It didn't taste like hibachi rice and wasn't worth the added price. read more

Yummy japanese food here! We started with vegetable tempura and chicken yakitori which were fantastic. For entrees we had chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, ton katsu, and chicken yakisoba. All were amazing except the yakisoba (which is traditional a pan fried noodle dish, here i could tell the noodles were not fried and they did not use enough soy sauce while cooking). The service was a bit slow, but the restaurant itself was clean and well decorated. Overall I would come back for anything except the yakisoba, as the rest was truly delicious. read more

They really came to our table right away, took our drink order and were very effective and efficient on getting our order in and to our table. I tried the calamari and Oishii Fried Roll. Let's start with the calamari. Very interesting as I have never had calamari in long strips, only circles. It was fine, I go back-and-forth with if I would buy it again. Their sushi is very big. I had lunch recently that was very disappointing. My sister treated me to a birthday lunch. We arrived a 1: 20pm. We were not informed by our server that they closed at 1 : 45pm. We ordered an appetizer of shrimp tempura which was good and a lot of different maki & nigri sushi (5 dishes) and hot tea. After we were served all the sushi dishes, our waitress came back 10 minutes later and told us they were closed and she could bring us boxes, that we needed to leave. I looked at my watch and it was 2: 05pm. We had just started eating. I questioned her and said well go ahead & pay now but can we please stay and finish our food for another 20 to 30 minutes? She said no they are closed. We were shocked. We paid & asked for boxes. I suggested that she should have told us before we ordered that we'd have to leave in 25 minutes. We spent more than $75 on sushi that was mediocre at best. She did say she was sorry but it wasn't genuine. My sister did give her a 20% tip. If it would have been me I would have not tipped her at all. It was the worst, disingenuous service I've ever experienced. She ruined my birthday. They lost good customers that always spend lots of $$$ & tip well. We will not be back or recommend this place to anyone. There are many other better sushi places in town like Omakase, Sakura Blue, Sapporo, Hikomon & even Malone's that serve delicious fresh sushi & have graceful service. I ordered by phone, and the person who took my order was polite and thorough, repeating back my order and phone number to ensure it would be correct. I ordered the vegetable sushi roll (DELICIOUS and unique, stuffed with jalapeno, pickled radish, gobo, asparagus, avocado, and cucumber and topped with seaweed salad), as well as an order of seaweed salad because yum. My order was ready on time, correct, and so tasty. I especially appreciated the generous helping of pickled ginger, which is one of my favorites. Oishii - you rock. The sushi rolls are very tasty and loaded up with toppings! My only complaint is that I prefer "one bite" sushi pieces. Its a little impractical to try to take two or more, but I can appreciate the amount of food they provide! The tables are a bit close to one another so it's not as private as I may want for a date night. That said, the service is quick. The sushi came out fast after we ordered, but I didn't love the method of writing my own order on the paper. My favorite dinner date chose sushi for his birthday dinner, so we met some friends at Oishii to celebrate. Oishii is one of those places that you may notice when you drive by and think, "I need to try that", then forget about it by the time you get home. Or you may not notice it at all. There is nothing fancy about either the exterior or interior; but that is where the meh ends. Great food + great service = a recipe for success!! As you can see from the pictures, we ordered 6 different rolls and some white tuna nigiri. The nigiri was, hands down, the largest I have ever seen. Maybe the Jolly Green Giant could eat it whole, but any normal person will need it cut in half. The spicy roll was extra large, too, and had to be eaten in multiple bites. Even so, it won the 'best of the night' award from all of us. I can honestly say this is the first time I have liked every roll we ordered. Lots of different things I've never seen on sushi menus. They put fruit on some of the rolls. Sounds strange, but really it works! They were nothing but fresh, mouthful, flavorful, and delicious. Compared to nyc where we came from, the pricing is about the same as nyc but here you get bigger portion and more ingredients filled rolls. The freshness you can smell.
