    The best sushi in Louisville.
    Daniel B.

I have tried just about every sushi spot in Louisville, and Oishii is my favorite. The location is convenient, but parking is a nuisance - their lot is tiny. Service is always good, the ambiance is a bit bland. And frankly, none of these extraneous considerations matter to me! When I go out for sushi, I just want it to be plentiful and delicious. For reasons I have yet to contemplate and unpack, I don't really look at ordering sushi as a fine-dining experience where the service and the venue and the decor and the menu diversity all factor in much. To me, either your sushi rolls are top-notch or they're not. And by this rubric, Oishii is unrivaled in Louisville, KY. One can argue that Sapporo's happy hour is a better value, or that the Dragon King's Daughter's bento box is the best bang for your buck sushi lunch. But no one can accurately claim to have better sushi than Oishii. Here are my ratings for rolls I have tried: Koi 9 Highlander 8.5 Hot 8.5 Aloha 8 Crazy Eel 8 Zen 8 2in1 7.5 Hawaiian 7.5 Volcano 7 Lieutenant 7 Big Daddy 7 Sunset 7 Derby 6 Spicy Tuna 6 Spicy Salmon 5 I also appreciate that Oishii isn't stingy with their pickled ginger. They're not the cheapest spot in town, but when one considers that their rolls are generously-sized, they're not unreasonably-priced at all. Highly recommended!

Sushi was awesome. Service was good, and the restaurant was clean. We went for lunch and they were super busy (good sign). Will come back for sure.

We dined at Oishii Sushi - it's somewhere I've always wanted to try but never got around to it. It's usually pretty crowded. We ended up stopping by on a Saturday night but came in past dinner hour around 7:30 so we were seated immediately. The menu is more extensive than I thought it would be and includes simple sushi rolls, speciality rolls, teriyaki plates, etc. We ordered a California roll, crunch munch roll, and rainbow roll and the teriyaki chicken plate with fried rice and vegetables. The sushi only took about 20 minutes and the portions were big. The sushi was fresh and there was a large portion of ginger and wasabi. The chicken dish was okay - I wouldn't recommend upgrading to the fried rice. It didn't taste like hibachi rice and wasn't worth the added price.

Yummy japanese food here! We started with vegetable tempura and chicken yakitori which were fantastic. For entrees we had chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, ton katsu, and chicken yakisoba. All were amazing except the yakisoba (which is traditional a pan fried noodle dish, here i could tell the noodles were not fried and they did not use enough soy sauce while cooking). The service was a bit slow, but the restaurant itself was clean and well decorated. Overall I would come back for anything except the yakisoba, as the rest was truly delicious.

I visited Oishii Sushi for a lunch date and it was a great option for lunch. They really came to our table right away, took our drink order and were very effective and efficient on getting our order in and to our table. I tried the calamari and Oishii Fried Roll. Let's start with the calamari. Very interesting as I have never had calamari in long strips, only circles. It was fine, I go back-and-forth with if I would buy it again. Their sushi is very big. Where are you? Have to take multiple bites for just one piece. The sushi with overall was good and I would definitely order again from this location.

Well... I was yelled at for trying to order sushi... I gave the waitress my order- they didn't have anything I wanted so I asked if I gave her the ingredients for a roll could they make it. She said yes. Gave her the inside ingredients and for the outside. I know how this works... some lady comes from the kitchen and starts screaming at me the restaurant is silent and I'm so embarrassed... so yeah we have left the building. Waitress was really nice though. I can't even.

Oishii is my favorite sushi spot in Louisville. They're rolls are huge, the staff is so friendly, it is super quick. I tell people all the time to go here! My go to roll is the spicy mary but I've never had a roll I didn't like.

This is our favorite place for sushi and other foods on menu in Lousville. Haven't had any other restaurants that meet or exceed Quality and service. We took My 11 year old for his birthday. We all Loved the food and preparation. Place is always busy which is a great sign. Look at pictures and you be the judge.

Very casual atmosphere but really good sushi. We tried a number of rolls and were happy with them all. Reasonably priced. The rolls are big just fyi.

Amazing sushi! I highly recommend the crunch munch roll and the firecracker roll I usually get takeout and they always make sure the quality is amazing. Always so yummy and fresh

Do you need or recommend getting a reservation or is it okay to just show up (is it typical to have long waits to get seated)?

Every time I'v gone I've just shown up but calling ahead any we're never hurts on a Friday Saturday night!

Are there any lunch deals, specifically on Fridays?

I don't know of them running specific specials. They don't open until 5:30pm, so it's not a lunch spot. It's strictly a dinner restaurant.

It's summer and sizzly hot and electrical issues happen. We deal. This would easily have been overlooked if the service or the food had compensated. But our server could not have cared less about us and was aloof and cold, expressionless. Took forever to come to our table and barely checked on us the entire meal. Then, after waiting an eternity, we were both brought the wrong food. Yes, we each were served the wrong dish. We both had ordered scallops and we both got sashimi. We were so hungry that we simply went ahead and ate it so that we could get out of that place. Indifferent waiters do not HEAR well, apparently. I likely won't be back. There are simply too many other good sushi places in Louisville. This was more than simply "one bad night" for the restaurant, in my opinion. It was a composite of "yuck."

Thanks to Karli our waitress who was so very nice and asked us what we liked. She gave fantastic recommendations which we took her up on. For the bowls (bibimbap) we had the stir fried vegetable with added pork and the Al Pastor bowl which had pineapple in it which I'm a sucker for. Karli then explained the sushi varieties. We got two that were huge and so delicious. I really wanted the Lemongrass Miso Soup but thought it was too hot outside for soup. Karli said give it a try anyway and I'm glad I did. Outside btw was not bad at all. Very cool setting with high top full bench patio with cool greenery surrounding it. The overhead fans made it extremely nice as well. Just a most wonderful dining experience all the way for a special wedding anniversary dinner.

Two waitresses saw my partner water cup was empty & did not refill til asked, annoying!!! The food is very mediocre & honestly have no idea why they get good business, possibly because where they're located but I personally wouldn't go here again! I enjoy jalapeño poppers so when I saw they had a version of it on their menu I was excited to try, my entree came out before the appetizer & that was quite annoying as well since the food took FOR EVERRRRR!!! We weren't given small plates til we asked because we quite literally were sharing the app. The heart attack was nothing worth getting the flavors were bland & the spicy tuna was a suspicious color, I didn't even finish it. The sushi isn't even fresh. We also ordered veggie fried rice which was quite yummy, but you can't really go wrong with that tbh. We originally wanted a chicken & beef fried rice, but the combo fried rice meant chicken, beef, & shrimp & you weren't able to order just 2 of the meats like huh??? They honestly need better a better system for their waitresses, there were 3 people that tended to us & they all sucked at checking up on us!!!! I am making it a 2 since they were friendly & were very busy & all over the place but the food did not make up for it!! Overall, would sadly not recommend to go for oriental food but the decor of the place seems like it would be a nice sit down restaurant.

Kiwami comes pretty close to meeting my criteria. Quality: yes. 100%. Excellent ingredients, tasteful decor, sturdy serving bowls, whimsical ladles for slurping broth. I would love to see additional vegan options in all entree categories (tofu poke bowl, please). The veggie ramen was fabulous as was the edamame. Just more. Taste: A+. The broth was complex and glorious, the kale noodles lovely, the toppings (brussels spouts, broccoli, tofu, avocado) all prepared and seasoned perfectly. Temperature: yes. Nice and hot. Perfect. Texture: noodles were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of chew, however toppings were all pretty homogenous in texture. The raw greens on top were a little strange. It would have been nice to have a crispy or crunchy element. Value: I mean, Kiwami is a ramen place on Bardstown Road. I didn't expect a deal. I paid $20 for a bowl of ramen plus tip.
