After making an appointment, I visited Mish. My first thought was that the shop looked like my garage. It was piled pretty high in boxes. I sat down and the President (Robert Mish) handed me some trays to lay my goods out. I had a box of mostly silver medallions and coins. Robert knew his trade! He was very good at sorting out mistakes of items another store (PPM) identified as sterling or not silver at all. I was very impressed to watch Robert work with coins and medallions like an experienced fruit sorter pulling and grading fruit from the conveyer. Needless to say, I received an offer about 2 times as high as one of their competitors (PPM) and took it. All I can say is never judge a shop by its initial look. I had some Chinese gold coins that I had purchased many years ago that I was looking to sell, that had high collector value (above the gold value). I E-mailed 4 companies that specialize in these coins, after researching how much they were worth. I recently inherited a substantial coin collection and being a bit naive on the subject of coins and their values, I did a little homework on the subject and got some idea of what value to expect from each coin I would bring in. There were some foreign coins which i knew little about. I went in with my shoebox which contained mostly "junk silver" hoping to get a quote somewhat close to the "melt value". What I got wasn't even close and I felt rather insulted. They couldn't be bothered to explain to me what it was I had in my possession. The coin specialist was EXTREMELY rude. I got a gold coin as a present from someone, and I wanted to sell it to this place because I happened to be in the area. He offered me about half of what the coin was actually worth according to "The Red Book" on US coins. (Yes, I came in to have the coin looked at, and I had done some of my own homework using reliable resources, but I expected to be offered AT LEAST 70% of the value of the coin.) That point aside, when I told the coin specialist my story (that I do not know very much about coins, and received the gold coin as a gift) he accused me of lying to him. I do not recommend this place if you want to recover the full value of the things you want to sell.
