We ordered at 5:15-5:30 and the website said our food would be ready at 6:30. We were only with that. We live about 10-15 minutes away. We were then notified that our food was ready at 6 pm. So.. if we had known we could have left earlier. We ordered Sesame Chicken and Beef Lo mein. Both were delicious. The Hong Kong pork bun was probably authentic but not to our taste. In trying to be a better Yelper, I'll be including photos with my reviews, as able. Today, we had a late lunch/early dinner at Miss Hot Cafe--a place I've had several meals, all of which have been good, and all of which combine to shape this 4 star review. If you've never been here, it's a clean, well lit restaurant, with booths on one side and tables on the other. Service can apparently be somewhat short (read: not the over-the-top, uncomfortably super friendly service you might get at your local Ruby Tuesday's), though I've always felt well taken care of here. You snowflakes need to shush. Meals start with their fried...noodle..chips? With a side of duck sauce? I usually eat one, then push the thing aside. Not my cup of tea, but if you're starving and/or into these things at baseline, then you'll be happy to know these are complimentary. We also got a scallion pancake (nice texture, standard mild flavor) and steamed pork dumplings (appeared freshly made, tasty enough, but not the world's biggest or tastiest) to start. And, dare I say it, we were appetized! Entrees were ma po tofu and my usual spicy beef noodle soup. The tofu dish can be a bit salty from time to time, but today it was great: spicy, a little sour, a little savory. The tofu melts in your mouth, and the leeks are my favorite part (I wish there were more)! And, so as not to lose your ManCard if you order this, there's a sprinkling of ground pork to keep this off the vegetarian list. Phew. The beef noodle soup is dependably good, like Tino Martinez for the Yankees in the mid-late 90s. He wasn't leading the league in home runs or RBIs, and you know that slow bastard wasn't going to steal a base for you, but when he got up to bat, you were fairly confident he would get on base, or at the very least put the ball in play to give his guys a chance...but I digress. The soup has a nice heat, perfect for the colder months. The egg noodles are standard, but there's tons of beef chunks to get your pr0tonZ in for the day, the bok choy gives you, like, some vitamins or whatever, and the seasoning is appropriate without being overbearing. Would be awesome if there were more Szechuan peppercorns in this. Sigh. Still, I'd gladly eat this stuff once a week. Overall: I've probably eaten here ten times, and the fact that I keep going back is worthy of the 4 stars. It's been a hot minute since I came here. They updated their menu and i feel like it has more selections now. It also has better visual. My friends never been here so I took them for the first time after coming back from Toronto. The staffs are friendly and provided good service. The food itself was amazing. I always get the fish in chili soup (don't know the exact menu name), the braised pork, and the eggplant with garlic sauce. They were so good. I've been there thrice, the last time being in Oct '18 and my experience has been the same every time. It seems to be a family business, where the owner doesn't give a shit about her customers. Over the years I see the number of workers declining also. Its located on Sheridan Drive near the Walmart and few Indian stores which make it conspicuous. The only reason why perhaps I would still go to this place because I am a foodie, their food is awesome and I have a thick skin towards rude behavior. That being said, I would never bring anyone with me who has a friendly nature and likes talking to the waitress (such as my wife). Recently a friend of mine has been denied to enter simply because she was carrying an almost empty small tetra pack of a fruit juice. Their fish in a bowl is a delight and the quality has not deteriorated in the past five years. So is their lamb stir fry. I am pretty sure that their remaining items are also equally delicious. Miss hot cafe is good if you are into spicy food. I have been there three times now and I only eat one thing- the fish in spicy seasoning. It comes in a huge pot and will feed four people. You have to order white rice as a side. It doesn't come with it. The mochi is overpriced especially since you can buy a whole box at trader joes for the same price. We have also tried the fried rice which is okay, not great. They have nice dumplings too. And try the cold beef salad too if you can. Oh and the twice cooked lamb. Their service is a little weird. Every time our waitress hardly understands what we say and then some other woman comes and isn't the most polite in the way she talks. This could just be the way she talks though. I say this because she does (in her own way) explains what we should or should not order. Been looking for a Chinese restaurant to compare with my favourite from Syracuse (Red Chili) and I've found it here at Miss Hot Cafe. We ordered the braised pork ( pork belly ), glass noodles with ground pork ( spicy ), and baby Bok Choi with black mushrooms as our veg. Pork belly was fantastic. The sauce was very tasty and added to the Bok Choi and the hard boiled eggs that come with it too. My favourite dish at Red Chili was very similar to Miss Hot's glass noodles with ground pork. I highly recommend this dish. It's very flavourful and savory. If you like spicy food try it spicy. Veg was great too. Bok Choi and mushrooms had a light tasty sauce and the ratio of mushrooms to Bok Choi was good. (We love mushrooms). The restaurant was beautiful. Tastefully decorated with low volume Chinese pop music playing. The staff were very friendly and attentive. If you want a very quiet dining experience come around 2 for late lunch. They close for an hour at 3:30 so the staff can have lunch. Great restaurant find. Will definitely return. I should note that after ordering 3 items we had 2 boxes of leftovers. This food is served family style so bring a big appetite, order one dish a piece and share, or order 3-4 (as a party of 2) and expect tons of left overs. read more

I liked this place when I was able to have the dim sum, but unfortunately I'm counting my carbs, so had to order something else. I decided on the chicken curry, which is pretty simple and similar across the board. Not here. This slop came out in a 9" Pyrex pie plate and was full of potatoes, big chunks of carrots, and every piece of chicken was gristly and coated with flour or cornstarch which absorbed the curry sauce and sat on the chicken like a paste. I have tried multiple dishes from this place including dumplings, Dan Dan noodles, spicy diced chicken fried rice and most of their dim sum items. The food ranges from okay to good. I still haven't found any dish that would rank 1st as compared to other restaurants that I have tried. I should preface this review with the following: I am from Taiwan and my parents are both master chefs/foodies, and my mom's parents were originally from Shanghai. Needless to say, I grew up eating a lot of ridiculously good food. I was also just in Shanghai a couple of months ago, so obviously, i know what i'm talking about when it comes to Chinese food. I've heard about Miss Hot Cafe over the years but had no idea that it was Shanghainese cuisine. If i had known that, i would have checked it out sooner. A couple of months ago, hubby and I decided to grab lunch here before running some errands in the area, and while I was a little hesitant due to all the poor reviews, I had to see it for myself. First, if you want super friendly service, go to Friendly's. Second, Chinese people just naturally have BRF (bitchy resting face). And lastly, English is their second language, so things get lost in translation - they may appear to be rude when they actually have no idea they've somehow offended you. So, if you want good food, get off your high horse, grow some thick skin, and stop being so easily offended for no reason. Now back to our visit... the service was not particularly friendly but they were by no means rude. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere we wanted. We grabbed a booth and perused the menu. We ordered the scallion pancake to start - they said that it was homemade, but it didn't look or taste like it. I'm used to scallion pancakes with lots and lots of scallions - these had little to none. Next appetizer was the marinated gluten, which is something that my mom makes often. The gluten was not soaked properly and therefore wasn't soft enough, but the flavor was ok, a bit too sweet for my liking, but not terrible. Our last appetizer was the sliced beef with hot oil - it was HOT all right. I would say unless you are an experienced "Asian" spicy food eater - do not attempt this dish. We regularly eat a lot of spicy Asian food and this pushed our limit. We ate it with lots of rice and drank lots of iced water, and it was amazing. We asked for extra cilantro to go with it because we are obsessed with cilantro, and it went really well with the beef. For main dishes, we started with the homemade dumplings - lamb. We had just had lamb dumplings in Beijing a few weeks before, so this did not compare. Nevertheless, the dough was good and the flavor was good. TIP - ask for some black vinegar to dip them with, it is so much better than soy sauce. I would like to try some of their other dumplings next time for sure. Our second entree was the braised pork. This is actually one of my mother's signature dishes, and again, this did not compare at all. The pork was tough but the flavor was definitely there. It is the best there is in Buffalo, so I will take what I can get! I wanted some veggies too but unfortunately they didn't have any of the Chinese veggies that day (I don't even know what they're called in English, I asked for them in mandarin), so we had to settled for sauteed string beans. They were good, though I really wanted some leafy greens. Our server was a younger girl, very quiet but polite, and did everything we asked. This place definitely has more of the authentic Chinese food in the Buffalo area (other places include Golden Duck and Gin Gin - but different types of Chinese cuisine). Bad customer service. We just want to ask some small bowl in order to share our soup (which is in a really big bowl). However, the waitress said they DO NOT have bowl for us to share. After that we try the tell the owner about the situation and wish they to make improvement on their service. The owner even didn't listen to us and push us to pay for the tips (18% for 6 ppl), which they said is a law. Honestly the food is so good here I could care less about the service! They did not treat us poorly just not overly friendly like most American restaurants and I think most people are not used to that and consider anything less than to be poor service. So I've been coming here ever since it opened but I felt like I needed to update this review for two (2) reasons... 1. The prices have gone up 2. The services have gone down The food... tastes about the same and so I won't revisit that part. I mean it's tasty and that's what makes me go back. But more and more I'm wondering if I'll have to curtail my patronage because I've been not too happy with their rising prices and dropping service quality. The prices going up doesn't need to much explanation. Basically they took the most popular dishes and added a dollar or two... and/or they reduced the amount of food. The service going down is a BIG no-no to me. I can sort of understand the economics of prices going up (though I'm not in favor of that). But the service going down is #whacksauce! There's no effort on the part of the wait staff to preemptively deal with things that a customer might need: napkins, cups, spoons... etc. Whenever we do have to ask for these items I've been met with rolling of the eyes, visual displays of frustration or simply no response (like not getting me what I asked for). Some might comment "we're gonna have to be one of those tables tonight" and I'm thinking "no we don't." We're not asking for miracles. We're asking for prompt service and a good attitude. Don't wanna be pestered for napkins? Bring a bunch out the first time we ask. Don't want to go back for more spoons? Count the number of people and count the number of spoons when you go get them. Don't like refilling pots of tea? Bring out two or three. Anyway.... like I said. The food is good. I like it... I don't like the service. Will I go back? Oh my goodness, where have you BEEN these past few years, Miss Hot Cafe?? Ever since moving to Buffalo, I've longed for the Chinese food of yore, classic staple dishes cooked up or stir-fried in the way only a high-heat, Chinese restaurant wok can. Some restaurants have come close - May Jen has fairly authentic dishes, and Kung Food offers some solid Taiwanese style eats - but none have been able to evoke the warm fuzzies that dining in a sit-down Chinese restaurant brings me quite the way Miss Hot Cafe does. I think it's a combination of atmosphere, taste, and the nice owner lady! First off, the menu is classic, from its presentation to the menu items themselves. It is hand written, with notes jotted down in some sections and dishes crossed out with red pen in others. One section isn't even in English, but don't let that deter you, just ask and the staff are glad to help! It is divided into soups, small sides, different meats, veggies, and specials, and it offers everything you'd expect, from scallion pancake and dumplings, to game and seafood, to various tofu dishes, to veggies. You won't find an overabundance of fried rice or stir fried noodle specials here; Miss Hot Cafe's menu highlights a separate main ingredient in each dish, meant to be eaten over white rice. And tea and rice are on the house, just the way it should be! Food tastes excellent. Unlike a lot of other Chinese places I've been to in Buffalo, each dish has unique flavor. Their ingredients are also very authentic - bamboo shoots, wood ear, chili peppers, and scallions accompany the main proteins with not a wayward bell pepper, water chestnut, or baby corn to be found! My friend and I have had the crispy lamb, string beans, family tofu, scallion pancake, and Sichuan tofu soup so far, and I am pleased to say that we loved every single dish. On top of everything, the owner lady is SUPER nice, and service is excellent!! N.B. This is a family style sit down restaurant, and it's reflected in the portion sizes. Best way to eat here is to come with a party of 4 or more, order one dish per person, and share! You'll definitely get your fill, plus some food leftover. Of course, you can do what I did, too: come with a friend, order 4 mains between the two of us, and eat like there's no tomorrow. N.B. #2 (for vegetarians): As with most Chinese places, just cause a dish is listed under the "vegetable" section, doesn't mean it's vegetarian. "Vegetable dish" literally just means that the main ingredient is a vegetable. That said, if you ask them not to add meat, they will gladly accommodate. Another excellent Asian eatery in this area of town makes me happy. Not only was the food delicious but the service was friendly, funny, and accommodating. Plus you know you're in good hands when all tables aside from your table is occupied by Asians. We ordered a ton of food to split between the 4 of us. My family is not adventurous at all so we mostly ordered off of the front part of the menu, aside from the Hong Kong Noodles I got. We ordered egg roll, spring roll, won ton soup, crab rangoon, Hong Kong noodles (with chicken), sweet and sour chicken, pepper steak with onion, and finally Kung Pao chicken. Everything was excellent and not at all greasy or overpowering. The spring rolls were crispy and tasty. The Rangoon was crispy and I loved the real crab but they were a little sweet for my taste. The won ton soup was my favorite in WNY. The dumplings in it seem homemade. Much lighter won ton than most heavy dough won tons. Plus, there was more than enough for 4 people to share. It was a huge portion. I loved that! Yum yum yum. I want more. Haha! The main dishes were awesome. Hong Kong noodles were great and made without celery as I requested. The pepper steak was probably my favorite of the night. Thin sliced, tender beef, fresh peppers and onions, perfectly cooked with great consistency. My mom said she loved it because it wasn't "slimy". I know exactly what she's talking about... It was so good! The Kung Pao was actually really good too! I don't normally love this dish because of all of the celery used in it but this was so good. Chicken was probably thigh meat but wasn't fatty. It was very good and had a great flavor. The sweet and sour chicken (basically chicken nuggets) I could have done without but it's my sister's favorite. My compliments are that the fried coating was really crispy and light. Not thick like at some places. And the chicken was good quality white meat. The meal was completed with a plate of sliced kiwi and fortune cookies. And tons of leftovers and full bellies. Now although the dishes are not quite up-to-snuff of things you can find in Flushing, it is one of the better varieties of more "authentic" Chinese cuisine in the Buffalo area. Although it wasn't down right terrible, it could use some improvement. It was difficult to get the server's attention when we needed a refill on our tea, even though we attempted to flag her down by waving our hands in the air, she acted like she didn't see us and had tunnel vision. Not the most friendly service, but nothing that would really prevent me from coming back. Is the food here worth the not-so-great service? Probably. Probably best authentic Chinese food in Buffalo area, they have Sichuan and Shanghainess food, which are both good. My family often come to here for dinner or lunch, take-outs. Loved their signature soy cooked pork (which is meaty and delicious), and spicy broiled fish. read more

Quiet except for an interestingly eclectic choice of music playing in the background. Large menu, I'm a fan of the crab Rangoon and all the wontons and wonton soup. My friends are more adventurous but love everything they've ordered as well. read more

My God has this place gone to the birds. What an awful experience spicy lamb dish had so much cumin in it , I thought I was eating Indian food. I ordered everything that I would have ordered in the past. One bug disappointment was they no longer offer the spicy potatoes with vinegar that was an awesome dish too bad it's no longer available. Everything was off withmthe seasoning, temperature, just bad food they either don't care any longer about making good food or they lost their chef. Either way I wasted $120.00 on food I literally want to throw in the garbage. The dim sum was microwaved , it was probably the worst I've ever eaten . Never thought such a good restuarant would decline so much. I'm so disappointed, the place was empty on a Friday night at 7:30 that's a dead give away that somethings wrong. What a waste! read more
