Visiting from LA, I honestly didn't expect to find great birria tacos, but Mission 19 Taqueria proved me wrong. The birria tacos looked amazing in the photos, so I decided to give them a try. My kids loved them and immediately asked for more. What really stood out to me was the tortilla, it had a nice crunch that made the tacos even better. The Salsa Roja was absolutely fire and paired perfectly with the tacos. I would definitely eat here again. My only suggestion would be to have lemons, onions, and cilantro available near the sauce station. That said, if you ask, they'll gladly give you more. The prices are a little on the high side, but I'm assuming that's because of the location. Personally, I don't mind paying extra for quality birria tacos. If you're looking for good birria tacos, I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

The inside of the building is not very clean. Where they have a stand of salsas and pico, is very dirty as well. I was not greeted when walking in, and had to take my own order on a self check kiosk. The food came out hot, and the chips were seasoned with a good flavor. The prices are high for the items. $30+ dollars without a drink for one person. read more

So we're on our way to la Bahia but the place was packed so we decided to try out mission 19 Taqueria. I really liked the ambience that had a lot of flags on on the ceiling and they had legit Mexican music playing in the building. It wasn't too loud to the point where you couldn't hear yourself talking to somebody so that was nice. They have a menu that is electronic menu board that you can order on or you can order at the front counter we opted for the kiosk. It was easy to order. Everything was a little expensive for two street tacos and one shrimp taco it was almost $30. I feel like that is a bit outrageous but they were really good so it justified the cost a little bit overall I would give it four stars if they could drop the price down a little bit that would be nice. read more

I had much higher hopes and maybe I just caught them on an off day, however, reading other reviewers, some seemed to share the same experience. First, this place is over-priced for what you get. I understand there is a premium with the location, however, ive been to so many cheaper establishments which honestly serves much better quality. First the good...the fish taco was alright. They at least crisped up the flour tortilla and the fish was half decent though pretty small in portion. Mostly loaded with cabbage, tomato, etc...The bad...the carne asada quesotaco was just bland, poor quality meat and the tortilla had no texture and was just soggy...just gross. Me and the hubby were staying in the area and looking for some good Mexican food for the night while visiting Monterey. Mission 19 had really good reviews and the pictures looked very appetizing. We came around 7pm on a Monday evening. There's a kiosk to order from and we were greeted but mostly everyone was in the back cooking or cleaning. I ordered the quesabirria trio of 3 corn tacos and the hubby ordered the California burrito and we split a fountain drink. There's a tv that played music videos. Our food took about 10 minutes or so to be brought out to us. The hubby loved his burrito and raved about it all that week lol and my birria tacos were delicious as well! If you want some authentic Mexican street tacos in the area, this is it! It's a no frills spot with so many options in their menu, including the famous Burria tacos. We happened to come on a Tuesday so our special treat was Taco Tuesday deal- buy 2 get 1 free. I ordered the Al Pastor, carnitas and carne asade. While the beef one was slightly dry, the pork ones were absolutely delicious with their homemade tortillas! We also got the chocolate flan which I really enjoyed. A layer of flan on top of chocolate cake that was moist and not too sweet. What a win! The only thing I wouldn't get again is the nachos. It was too much stuff on top of very little nachos, but some people may like it. Highly recommend this spot! Came in recently with the fam, first and last time. Tacos were good but the order was messed up, burrito was dry, and the kids plate came last as we were all finishing up our dishes and the chicken nuggets were way over cooked. The fountain drinks- the ice maker was low on ice, and the sodas were good, but their tea was just water. Food was mid, service was a bit on the slow end but I get it, I'm not the only person up in there, but the attitudes of the employees was very welcoming and sweet. And I do love the whimsy decorating of the place. Honestly, not the worst place but the wait was too long and the orders didn't come out altogether in a timely fashion, nor was it very moist. The worst Mexican food in all of california . Ordered the california burrito , meat was poor quality and had no flavor , almost as if they dip the meat in vinegar , which gave a sour taste . Service is terrible, I sat down and waited 40 min after ordering only to see that they hadn't even started on my burrito.

We had a issue the first time we used them for delivery. We found out how good they really are. The owner contacted us and offered to deliver our order himself. My wife had ordered the food. The owner took care of us a number of times after. After we went over what happened the delivery company we used had given us the wrong order. After receiving the right order we now order at least twice a month from them. We like their food. We think it is considerably better food. This was my second time to visit this establishment. I was looking forward to enjoying a breakfast burrito and ordered one without cheese with bacon, extra crispy. We arrived right after they opened, and Millie the counter person seemed distracted as she did not take our order for several minutes: counting change and doing various other things at the other end of the counter. She was helpful when my friend who also wanted what I was ordering did not tell me their meat preference, and had gone outside to wait, Millie helped me open the window to enquire of my friend. Now we move to why I gave only 3 stars. The burritos were 15.00 a piece but the total was 34.00 dollars which we asked about. Millie could not explain why the extra cost on top of the 9.5% tax. Tried to say it was a fee from the city of Pacific Grove and I pointed out this was Monterey. I went to pay using my phone and the total jumped to $40.00. Wait a minute, why the increase? It turned out my phone or the machine added a large tip. So I tried again and added a smaller more reasonable tip as we were taking our order to go. We opted to go outside and wait for our food as the music is so loud you cannot hear to speak to one another indoors. There is a salsa bar however the cups are so small you need several for a decent amount, I'm going into detail here as the public needs to be aware of how some restaurants are cutting costs and putting some of them back onto the customers. As it turned out the extra fee was for the use of a credit card which is not posted anywhere I could see, and as I mentioned the counter person did not know or failed to explain. Our food came and if I had not specified bacon I might have thought my burrito was bacon flavored as there was not a lot I could see. The burrito was mostly filled with potatoes which are fries stuffed in and beans with some scrambled eggs. Not my usual experience. All this is to say it is not likely my friend and I will be returning any time soon as neither of us were very impressed either with the service or the food, and the extra fees just drive up the cost of eating out at places such as the Mission 19 Taqueria. read more

Probably one of the best Mexican food I've had! I loved the shrimp super quesadilla. Very flavorful and the sauce has just the perfect amount of "kick". Hubby enjoyed the fish tacos. We were told that everything was made fresh upon ordering and our food definitely tasted fresh!! No complimentary chips here though; we weren't offered any and we didn't see any. The place is clean and pretty new. It has a good amount of tables so you can bring your friends and family along! They also have a few outdoor tables and chairs for a nice, sunny day lunch! I came from out of town with my family to celebrate my son's birthday today, only to be told they were closed at 7:45pm--even though we walked in at 7:40pm. Online, it clearly says they close at 8pm, and there were still people in front of us placing their orders. If you're not going to serve customers until your listed closing time, then lock the doors at 7:45pm and update your hours accordingly. Don't let people in just to turn them away.
