Chile Relleno Plate

Mission Baja Tacos is a fabulous place to eat and chillax! I have been here a few times since they first opened and everything that I've ordered so far has been fantastic to my tastebuds. The staff are extremely nice and friendly! Great attitude and service always. I really like the interior decorations and art work.! Gives it a festive feel. Kudos to everyone there!! My favorite foods to order are the grilled or fried fish tacos, the fried shrimp taco, and the chile relleno plate. So if you're visiting Mission Beach come stroll over and check them out!

We found this place over in Mission Bay! It was really good. My fish taco was the bomb.com and my roll tacos were not missing anything... Anything! They were so crunchy and so good and man I miss San Diego. We live in Arizona and we just don't get this kind of flavor. OK. Makes my heart sad. Anyway there are a couple of places in Surprise, Arizona and Phoenix that come close like tacos Chilango, taco Boys, Oscars! They don't disappoint. However, when I go back home to San Diego, I am just so giddy and happy to be around the best Mexican food OK. The service was great. It was quick and fast and we got our food pretty quick. It's kind of small in size so it's not a lot of seating. However they had space for our family of seven and we all were able to come in from the cold weather and get some great food and enjoy our time. I would definitely go back.

Delicious burritos perfectly located right next to mission bay, making it the ideal Friday night dinner stop post walking the bay. The service was pretty quick and I loved all the self serve toppings / sides / salsas. I thought the price was pretty reasonable for such good sized burritos!!

I stopped by Mission Baja Tacos for lunch in mid-June 2026 while on a walk with a colleague. This is a cute and lively restaurant with tasty tacos (appears to be family-owned). It has several round tables and two communal, long tables. I ordered the carnitas taco and fried fish taco (both were delicious and very good) and enjoyed a sampler of fresh salsas which you serve yourself (the red spicy was my favorite). They have a combination special of any 2 tacos, rice, and refried beans for $12.95. The service was friendly, but expect a short wait (5-10 minutes) for your tacos to be ready if it's crowded. The only downside was the restaurant does not offer free tap water. You must pay for bottled water (however, a free cup with ice is provided upon request).

Cute little spot! The carne asada tacos are bigger than expected and really hit the spot. The carne chips were just as good. (I just wish our cheese melted for a real nacho effect) nevertheless it was still tasty. Restaurant is just a few blocks from the beach, ended up taking our food to go to have a picnic!

Came here for my mother's 70th birthday, the food was incredible. We had the battered fish tacos, shrimp ceviche, and carne asada torta. The owner was running the register and she was so fun to be around. We will definitely be back.

Had 4 tacos and they were all good, but the pick of the litter by far was the fried fish taco! Surprised me that the fish beat the carne asada and the carnitas but its true. They make the tortillas fresh in front of you so you know its good. They have a salsa bar to add to your tacos for free . All in all 5 stars and would go back

Food was absolutely delicious! We had a table of 6 and as we were taking our order the lady let us know about the condiment bar and that the dark red sauce was VERY spicy. For me, it tasted like regular hot sauce but the service was good and the food was great. Definitely a great place for families and kids. My only feedback that I would like to see is their Jamaica and horchata not served in a bottle but rather a pitcher. Overall good vibes and good food

Mission Baja Tacos did not miss. The carne asada taco stole the show. It was packed with flavor and good enough to eat naked. I added a little red salsa anyway and instantly regretted not ordering a second one. The carnitas was solid, but I made the mistake of eating it after the asada, which is like following a headliner with an opening act. The birria came in last and was juicy, rich, and absolutely worth the hype. If you're ordering, carne asada and birria are non-negotiable. My wife went with the fish tacos and couldn't stop talking about them. Huge portions, perfectly done, and easily her favorite. She ran out of words. That says enough.

We came in about 30 minutes before closing, and by the time our food came out, they had already closed--but the woman working there insisted we stay and enjoy our meal. She was incredibly kind and made us feel so welcome, even though we arrived late. The food was AMAZING, the restaurant was still busy during closing hours and I loveddd the cute decor. The whole experience left such a great impression. We'll definitely be back next time we're in San Diego.

When you recheck the restaurant on Yelp twice since you can't believe how bad your experience is, you know you're in trouble. We tried three different taco options of fish, carnitas and the birreria. The best of them was the carnitas. The meat was seasoned nicely, but it was SO greasy! The tacos were just sitting in a vat of warm grease which was an even worse experience by the super thick taco shell it was wrapped in. Next was the birreria taco, which just tasted like tomato sauce and you couldn't really taste the meat flavor and lastly worst of the worst was the fish taco. This was one of the worst dishes I have ever tried. I actually couldn't even eat it and threw most of it away. The fish is fried, but must have been done incorrectly since it didn't stick to the fish. The fried batter was also soggy and the fish texture itself was puréed. I'm not sure what was worse, the taste or texture. I'm sad to say, but I will not be returning any time soon

Love the made tortillas. The fish was good. The place is clean and the service was great! Will definitely be back.

Taco plate w/ battered fish tacos, side of chips

Wanted a quick bite when we were in the area. Definitely felt like slightly touristy prices, but we split a $12.99 taco plate and an order of chips and were satisfied. Everyone we encountered was kind and very interested in providing great service. The salsa bar was poppin. Food was solid, definitely was not disappointed! A couple things to know, they were bumping club mixes, if that's not your vibe maybe take it to go. Chips were CRISP, but quite oily. Again, not bad, just may factor into your personal preferences!

Phenomenal spot to drop in for a breakfast burrito. I really appreciated how fresh the tortillas and salsa/veggie bar was.

It's similar to Al pastor without the pineapple though. The meat was tender and the flavor was authentic. My partner liked this one the most! What shocked me was the carne asada. The taco was delicious!! It had a wonderfully smoky flavor to the meat and it was juicy and tender. I have been craving it ever since!! This was my favorite. There's no seating downstairs but if you go upstairs you'll find some tables! Be warned that it's hot upstairs. But since you chow down the food quickly you won't be there for too long anyway. If you're visiting San Diego, this is a must!!

Tacos El Gordo did not disappoint!…read more We were on a road trip from the Bay Area to Ontario and decided on a last-minute dinner stop at Tacos El Gordo in San Diego. We figured we had to make the detour -- and honestly, it was worth it! The lines can get pretty long, but don't let that scare you away. They move fairly quickly, although it depends on how complicated people's orders are. The Al Pastor line was probably the longest, but that's probably because everyone knows what's good! Since we made the trip out here, we went all in and ordered about 11 items: 1 Lengua Mulita - This was my first time trying a mulita and it was amazing. Basically a taco sandwich with cheese, and the combination of the crispy tortilla, melted cheese, and tender lengua was . 2 Lengua Taco - The lengua was just as tender and flavorful as I remembered from about 10 years ago. It brought back some nostalgia and definitely lived up to expectations. 1 Cabeza Taco - Probably my favorite taco of the night. The meat was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Definitely a must-try. 2 Asada Tacos - Solid tacos. They were good, but compared to the other options, they didn't stand out as much. 4 Al Pastor Tacos - These were amazing! The al pastor was super flavorful, juicy, and not dry at all. I can see why this line was so long. 1 1/2 Al Pastor Fries - The avocado sauce really brought everything together. The fries, meat, and toppings combined into a perfect late-night meal. We also ordered the grilled onions and jalapeños on the side, which were a great addition and paired really well with everything, just walk up to the ladies that's pressing the tortillas, no need to wait in line. Overall, Tacos El Gordo was definitely worth the stop. The portions, flavors, and quality were exactly what we were hoping for. If you're in San Diego, expect a wait -- but trust me, it's worth it. 5 stars but subtracting 1 just because after ordering the Al Pastor tacos, then waiting for the other lines for the other meats, food went from hot/fresh to warm pretty much, but that's on us since it was only Me and another person.

There were a couple of groups dining in and someone picking up a to-go order, but there was still plenty of seating available. The employee working the counter was friendly. They also serve alcohol, and during my visit drinks were 20% off. Options included Pacifico, Modelo, Blue Moon, hard seltzers, and a selection of canned craft beers. I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.

Sometimes, there are nights when only tacos can fix me. It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."

The highlight of the menu is the Keka Taco. It is incredibly delicious, loaded with flavor, and so filling that it can easily satisfy even the biggest appetite. The only downside to this establishment is the limited parking, which can make picking up your order a bit challenging during busy times.
