There aren't enough kind words I can say about Mission BBQ. Their team is absolutely phenomenal when it comes to catering. They catered a buffet-style meal for my group of over 4,000 people, and everything went smoothly. Their catering service is truly a well-oiled machine--they have it down to a science. Beyond the impressive logistics, the team was a pleasure to work with, always professional, friendly, and accommodating. I highly recommend Mission BBQ for any large event or catering needs--they exceeded every expectation! Meredith Lippert was my point of contact. Her & her entire team deserve many kudos. For a chain, this place breaks the mold of the typical chain restaurant. I love the patriotism displayed here. An excellent example is that every day at Noon, they play our National Anthem on the speakers and everyone stands at attention. I get chills just thinking about it. The food is always delicious and they have a great variety from Chicken, pork and beef, with plenty of sides for each individual palate.

Sooo yummy! We were actually watching a BBQ challenge show, which had us all craving some brisket. Mission for the bill perfectly! The brisket and baby-back ribs were excellent--perfectly cooked and flavorful. I wasn't the biggest fan of their Carolina style sauce, but there other sauces were pretty good. Each of the meats came with cornbread, which was moist and made for the perfect side. They have some military deal days coming up, so be sure to check those out!

My first encounter with Mission BBQ was recently on a Saturday for family birthday celebration. I'm not much of a barbecue fan or connoisseur, so I always defer to my husband to tell me what's good. He likes Mission BBQ and I can now say I do too. I won't say this is the easiest eatery to get to. It's located in a strip shop off a busy section of North Battlefield. The parking lot is ample in size for the few retailers in the center. Mission BBQ occupies an end unit and you won't miss it if you look for the huge military truck out front. Ordering style is typical of a fast casual place - order, fill your drink, wait for food delivery. The staff was SO helpful to this first-timer. I try to eat consciously and multiple staff members offered some great suggestions. I ended up choosing sliced turkey and a side salad for myself and a pulled chicken slider plate for my daughter. I wish I had asked about seasoning on the chicken - it was too spicy for her young palate, but I enjoyed the leftovers the next day! She did like the baked beans, as did our whole family! My turkey, while flavorful, was quite dry. This was remedied with a selection of sauces on the table with descriptions of each. So helpful! The Memphis & Texas sauces were a favorite. My accompanying salad was HUGE and fresh. A great addition! Hubby had a brisket sandwich with mac and cheese and coleslaw. All was enjoyed. The primary reason for our visit was to celebrate a preschooler's birthday - and she loves Mission because of the National Anthem, which is played at noon. It's a beautiful pause in the day. There were neighboring tables of folks, some with veteran hats & jackets that obviously enjoy this restaurant with good reason. We noted a poster on the door announcing an upcoming closure for the staff to complete community service. I appreciate what Mission BBQ stands for and the good work they do for the military community. We had excellent service throughout our visit and the food was tasty. I would never hesitate to return!

Was in Chesapeake for a job and needed some quick lunch. I was able to get a plate of delicious meat for about $20. Brisket was nice and juicy and the sausage I got had some cheddar jalapeño which made it taste even better than usual. Came with slaw and cornbread as a side as well. Very feeling meal, nice atmosphere like with any other Mission BBQ. There was a polite woman checking on tables and asking if we needed anything. Awesome bbq joint that I can always rely on.

First time at Mission BBQ (don't judge me ) and they did NOT disappoint! Let's start with customer service 200 out of 10! Everyone was friendly and super helpful. When they found out it me and my sisters first time eating at their establishment, they treated us like royalty or at least that's how I felt lol (see picture). They even let you sample food. Moving on to the interior (I'm saving the best for last ). The inside of the restaurant is clean clean but the bathroom! Baby that bathroom was sparkling clean and smelled good! 100 out of 10 Finally, the food my God, the food was DE-LISH! *chefs kiss* we tried the market sampler (turkey and salmon) with mac and cheese, collard greens and french fries plus it comes with cornbread. All of it was spectacular! I really wish I had taken a picture of the food BUT I did get a picture of the complimentary desert! Their seasonal strawberry shortcake (pictured)! Literally, the cherry on top of the meal. Y'all that strawberry shortcake was so fresh and good All of the food we ate was amazing and cook perfectly! 1,000,000 out of 10 It look me so long to try this place because when they first opened they only had red meat, pork and chicken (all proteins I don't eat). I was happy to see they added turkey and seafood to the menu. Super satisfied customer(s)! I'll definitely be back soon!

Been looking for a bbq restaurant for a while. Passed Mission BBQ four years and missed 4 years of great bbq. They love our veterans as well. Every day at noon everyone stands and sings the national anthem. Customer service above and beyond. Staff knows what they serve and whom they serve. Go in tell them you are a veteran and your experience will bring you back guaranteed. Bbq Chicken piled high juicy and delicious, Dry rub baby back ribs that fall off the bone, best cornbread in a long time and bbq baked beans round out the savory with a rich sweet sauce. Don't forget dessert with a slice of carrot cake with a cream cheese icing very rich compliment to tasty bbq.

The food was nothing to stand and salute about. I think that they are more concerned about people standing for the flag than the quality of their food which at best is barely edible. I ordered their half a chicken which I was warned because it was smoked it would be pink inside which I understood. I did not expect was a half chicken that would barely appear to be an 1/8 of a chicken. The chicken was dry and lacked seasoning or taste. The drink machine was not clean, I think this restaurant was far to concerned with the concept and paid no attention to the food. The service I received was non-existent. I was clearly not wanted in that establishment. I will not return.I have been to restaurants where the customer service has been subpar but the food has been outstanding and I have returned but the food was horrible and the service was as well. read more

Don't let the long line discourage you, we Americans love to over run a new restaurant and then complain it's not what we had in mind. Give Em a chance to work together for a week or two then give a true review. I am happy to say what we saw was a quick moving line with helpful employees A good quick BBQ with wonderful sides. All our food; meat- pulled pork, pulled chicken and the brisket were as advertised dry or wet (without fat or with). Sides- Mac-n-cheese, cold slaw and green beans were all full of flavor. We are giving Mission BBQ, Chesapeake a thumbs up. We love local people with a Mission and support our Arm Forces. read more

Fast lines, good service. Got the three meat sampler...I liked the cheese and jalapeño sausage . Don't leave without trying the banana pudding, it is delicious! Wonderful family restaurant and the ambiance is nice; nice addition to the city of Chesapeake. read more

Today for lunch went to see about this barbecue place and I was really hoping for no vinegar taste. As we walk in very surprising to see how spacious it is. The cashier was helpful once I told her never been here before also was able to taste the coleslaw before ordering the pulled pork. I found the pork dry not enough seasoning for my taste but after adding some of the barbecue sauce (which they have several to pick from) it got moist and better taste. The serving size was big and I enjoyed the pork and coleslaw! My husband ordered the pulled brisket sandwich smaller then mine but he liked it and the beans. We will go back want to try the ribs. I gave it a 4 because it was dry w/o the barbecue sauce read more

We catered a meal and pool party and the food was delicious! The experience with the catering department, payment and delivery was excellent. The staff was professional and kind! Holly, the young lady who delivered the food, couldn't not have been more efficient. With our catering, they included some yummy polies and brownies. Our 40ish guests, including, children, loved the food and we received many compliments. Some of those offering the compliments will now be customers at Mission. My one and only criticism, we needed more of the yummy sauces. read more

I have had their smoked pork and brisket. They were perfectly cooked (over night), tender and juicy. The coleslaw was fresh and good and the green beans are the best I ever had. The mac n cheese is loaded with cheddar cheese and we loved the corn bread. They have 5 or 6 different sauces to choose from but the meat is so good you can enjoy it withou any sauce. I like supporting Mission BBQ not only for the amazing food but because they are community minded and support our military and first responders. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

My family loves the va beach location but we are so happy they opened in Chesapeake where we live. This location is just as good! I always get the lean brisket or chopped both are bomb! My hubby and mom both love the pulled pork with no bun. Their cornbread, green beans, mac & cheese (made with real ooey gooey cheese), and fries are all delicious as well! Plus this place loves our servicemen and always play the National anthem at 12 each day. This place is a 10/10 with my family. Plus it's a local small business and we love supporting locals with ambition and great products!!!! read more

We went to this location for my daughters birthday today and the food was amazing! I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with Mac n cheese and green beans. We love this place! The staff make the restaurant, especially Holly who always goes above and beyond to greet our family and chat with our kids while also offering to bring us anything we need. Food is consistently delicious and the seasonal desserts are outstanding. Always a go to place to bring out of town guests and a great place to take kids- the food comes fast and the tables are large enough to accommodate a big group. It like they use the name just to drum up business and to sell its product. If any business advertises that they support any type of military fireman police off sir's or what have you it's going to get better business if it's next-door to the same places doing the same exact product. Just think it's just a marketing ploy. The food wasn't that great at all but service was good. The price is super high for what it is. Dickies BBQ is probably a quarter of the price and is much better. read more

This place stays just as busy and the Virginia Beach location, the food is the same as well (really tasty) the lot is constantly busy so try to park in the back if you're not a fan of musical chairs style parking, the staff here is friendly and super fast with orders, definitely stop in on your way through this area. read more

The food is a hit or miss for me. The food is good on Monday, but it's terrible on Tuesday. There's no consistency. Also, I have noticed that the staff has been getting progressively worse. Many of the staff members I've encountered here have been very rude and unhelpful. It sucks because this place has the potential to be the best BBQ in Hampton Roads, but they're bringing this place down. read more

Yesterday was my first time here. When walking in the menu seems a bit intimidating at first glance.. but the staff members were more than happy to explain how to order. The atmosphere was open and pays homage to all the Veterans and other service members that have helped America. The selection of meats and sides are amazing. The place is clean and efficient. The food is good and the service is friendly and inviting. It just feels a little rushed and the open dining room gets a bit noises. They do have someone working the floor making sure everything is ok and that you don't have any issues. It's nice they don't just hurry you out, but make sure you have a great experience. I had brisket with fries and both were cooked perfectly. It's easy to over/under cook fries during the dinner rush on Friday, but they nailed it. They also have self serve fountain drinks and the syrup carbonation mix was perfect, the machine was clean. Solid experience, wasn't wow'd but will def go back. read more

So delicious! I only ever get the wet brisket for my protein but I have tried all the sides and they are delicious, especially the mac and cheese. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I like the patriotic decor and variety of sauces. The restrooms are always clean. read more

Here from out of town to work. Needed something quick but decent for dinner. This place definitely fit the bill. Had the moist brisket- beautiful bark and smoke ring with a bold smoked flavor. We received surprisingly wonderful service. Brisket had a bit much fat, Ariana came over without us asking and noted the meat was fatty and immediately said 'let me get you some leaner brisket'. She brought back a beautiful and delicious piece of lean brisket that was moist and melt in your mouth tender. Another young lady with long blond hair and a nose ring also came over to ensure our experience was top notch. They genuinely cared about their company and representing it well. From the moment you open the door and smell the BBQ you know you are in the right place. Great atmosphere. Be here at noon to stand with everyone to sing the National Anthem. I've been to a few Mission BBQs. Unfortunately today, at this location, my Pulled Pork was so dry it was bordering on jerky. Everything else was great, hot, well seasoned fries, etc. But the main act was a let down. read more

The brisket was extremely salty and dry. I would never go to a chain bbq place again. I will stick to the BBQ shake in Chesapeake. Their food is simply amazing. But Mission BBQ is nasty in include the sides. They gave me turkey to make up for the salty brisket and that was nasty. Never again!!! read more

Had Burnt Ends and they were delicious. Mississippi Mud Pie about put me in a comma. Service was fast and friendly. The bathrooms.were clean and stocked. They really give back to and respect the military/ first responders and it shows. Will be back. read more

Ate here for the first time today and it was amazing!!! For $12 I got a huge portion of pulled pork, a side of coleslaw, corn bread, and a drink. I loved getting to try all 6 BBQ sauces. The Memphis and Smokehouse(I think that's what it was called) were my favorite. Also the food itself was delicious! I loved the pulled pork it was tender and full of flavor. The coleslaw was very tasty and so was the corn bread. For $12 I left there full and happy! So far it's one of the best BBQ places I have tried. Did I mention it was fast! Literally took maybe 5-6 minutes to get our food once we placed our order. We will definitely be back! read more

I haven't had a bad meal here. I've had some OK meals that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It may seem a little high, but they do give you quite a bit of meat. I do like what they do for the community of veterans. I love the sauces on the table. read more

I have been here several times to pick up food, but this was my first time actually going inside to order. The line was long around lunchtime, but it moved quickly. It is fast casual style, so you walk down the line choosing what you want and then pay at the register. I honestly had no idea that was how it worked before, so I was prepared to wait a while. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient everything was. I was in and out much faster than expected. While putting my order together, the man helping me handed me a sample rib over the counter. I am a very socially awkward person and do not handle unexpected moments very gracefully, so I probably reacted a little awkwardly. That part was on me. The rib was GOOD though. He was very kind about my reaction and even handed me a napkin. The whole staff was friendly, asking how my week was going and checking in to make sure everyone was happy. Even though it was busy, they clearly care about customer service. The food was great. The garlic and green onion sausage had so much flavor, and the bananamisu was the perfect sweet finish. I originally went in hoping to order the BBQ oxtail, but they were sold out within two hours of opening, which honestly says a lot about how good they must be. I had also gone the day before around 7 PM and they had already closed because they were sold out for the day. Just a heads up that they do close early if they run out of food. Tip: if your hushpuppies come out with their house made honey butter, just ask you will thank me latter. Various BBQ sauces are provided on the table for your meats and sides; my favorite was the sweet Memphis style. I have been here a few times and the service and food have been exceptional. I had the brisket moist as well as my three boys. They all loved the brisket sandwich. My youngest is a picky eater to boot and he enjoyed the brisket as well as the mac-n-cheese. We will definitely be back. Plus they give back to the Wounded Warrior Project and respect our Military and Public Service such as Police, Firemen, EMT, etc., As a veteran this is a great thing and they get my business. Some people say it is a ploy to get business but I don't see other businesses supporting our Troops and Public Service Workers. Stop hating. Great product, great service, great motto! read more

I prefer Famous Dave's over Mission BBQ, but that's not to suggest that Mission BBQ is a bad choice. At Famous Dave's I like all of the BBQ protein options on the menu. Whereas at Mission BBQ, there are only a few standouts with the brisket being one. As for the sides, the baked beans and macaroni and cheese are a must try. Do not go during the pandemic. Staff working side by side without masks. I repeat no masks, talking over your food during preparation.
