I've been on a BBQ kick this month. So I always notice the gas station with the big pig on the side of the building. So I stopped to see what they had at Malbon Bros. You order in the back of the gas station at the window. They also had some premade items like pulled pork, pulled chicken, coleslaw, potato salad and other items in the fridge for take-n-go. They serve sandwiches, platters, and sides. I got the pulled pork which didn't look appealing at first in the fridge, but the lady let me try it and it tasted good. I got Mac n cheese, greens, and potato salad with hush puppies. The hush puppies were good, they're kind of smaller than what I thought they'd be though after seeing pics on past reviews. I wish I'd ordered extra because I did like them!! The pulled pork was tasty with the sauce I got on the side, with a slight vinegar taste. The greens and macaroni were ok, but the greens had huge stalks in them and the leaves were pretty big. I'd prefer them cut smaller, but they weren't bad. Chewing the thick part of the stalk was a little weird. But with hot sauce it worked out. I like that the macaroni was cheesy, it was slightly bland but I liked it anyway. The potato salad was decent, it would have been better if the potatoes were cooked longer, a few potatoes were hard/raw. Even with my complaints, it was still pretty decent food that satisfied my craving. The prices were reasonable. They also sell breakfast and have a few desserts. They have indoor and outdoor seating if you want to dine there. I took the ticket to the front to pay. The guy at the register just wasn't welcoming. He didn't say hi or address me, he stuck his hand out for the receipt and took my money. Kinda short. But other than that I'd go back. Check them out!!! read more

One of my favorite places in Virginia Beach. There is a lot of things going on so I'll check off a couple. 1. Breakfast. My favorite meal. They do it right. If you know how great has station biscuits with sausage egg and cheese can be....then you know. And these are on point. If you want to settle in to a tasty platter of sausage gravy, yep yep. 2. The BBQ is quite good. The style reminds me of deep South, with less vinegar and sweetness. Be a hero and get a couple pounds of pulled pork and take it home. 3. Need gas or to wash your car. We love supporting local, family-owned businesses, and Malbon Brothers BBQ is one we truly want to see thrive. The prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes, and when they're on point, the food is really good. That said, our last few visits have been a little inconsistent. The brisket was extremely saucy -- to the point that it felt more like soup with beef in it rather than sliced brisket. We also didn't receive our onion rings (which are an up-charge), which was disappointing. The hush puppies and corn dog nuggets were unfortunately overdone and borderline burnt. I've never been in this place before, always talked about stopping to see what's going on inside. Well it's a gas station, car wash and has a bbq restaurant also. It's clean inside regular set up of a gas station has some tables for dining in as well as seating outside. The service was good everybody was nice I'm not sure of the ladies name but she was nice, nice enough to let my sister have a little taste of an item before she purchased it. She had the pulled pork macaroni and cheese with greens. Now her plate looked good but the greens were just a bit different for me they leave the stem and didn't really cut them up well. Lipstick on a pig BBQ literally sucks. Google Carolina BBQ and learn how to make it. Car wash. Automatic rips parts off. Way to pricey. Self wash lanes are filthy. Always something not working then have to switch spaces which is wasting your own money and time. Dirt and trash is always on the ground which means it sprays up on your vehicle. I never thought I would be rating a gas station but Malbon's is always great. #1 They have happy hour for gas where it is a little cheaper. My husband and I meet up there to fill both vehicles at happy hour. With a fill up you get deals with food and car wash #2 They have a wonderful car wash area. You can get a discount by filling up with gas. Lots of options from self service. That you can wash it yourself, vacuum it yourself, and dry it yourself. To auto car wash. Even with that there are many options. #3 They have a mini restaurant inside. We eat here all the time and you can get it to go. Food is consistently good. We really like the BAR B Q sandwich. Oh and I can't forget this. If you don't want to cook. They have an area that you can buy containers of their BAR B Q. There has been many times I have not felt like cooking and this is always a family favorite at our house. We have even taken it to a cook out before. Pretty good bbq and sides. Pre sauced bbq was little stringy pulled bbq. Not minced. Sauce Bbq sauce I tried Tillis Carolina style. It was a little too spicy for me. And more vinegar than mustard. Some Carolina style is more mustardy than vinegary. Sides macaroni salad and coleslaw I thought were good but not special. Same thing for the hush puppies. It was ok. It's cheap. I had gotten a brisket platter with green beans and mac n cheese for the sides. The brisket was not discernible. and seemed like pulled pork instead. The green beans were salty and the mac n cheese plain. The sauce provided was heavy handed with the vinegar and worked in small doses. I liked the hush puppies. Those were hot and made fresh. Located directly across the street from Green Flash Brewery which is very convenient considering they do not serve food. The parking lot has always had plenty of pull up spaces in front. Some mo or debris had been viewed on occasion, even by the door. The small bbq joint is in the corner of the store and has set down counter and a few booths. The menu board is quite explanatory, huge and even offers a huge breakfast menu which seems to be a secret. The cleanliness at the counter has been suspect a few times, the tables and floor clean. The service has always been prompt and friendly on every occasion. The system works like this. You order at the counter for here, or to go. Take the receipt and pay at the cash register by the door. The clerk will provide a paid receipt for your food pick up. My last order. BBQ Brisket Platter, french fries, baked beans & hush puppies. Those hush puppies are life-changing I tell ya. A 20 oz fountain drink is included. A steal for 9.49 that's huge and scrumptious! This restaurant may be in a gas station, but forget the location and be prepared to enjoy some delicious bbq. They are known for their good barbecue. Their gas station/diner is super tiny, old school, and has a good size menu of southern comfort foods. From start to finish, my interactions with everyone was FIRST rate!! I placed a catering order for 50 people and everything was delicious. We had some restrictions due to allergies, and the staff at Malbon Bros went above and beyond to make sure the food items were safe for my guests. We were down in Virgina Beach for a Wrestling tournament, and two days before pick up, I requested to have my order split into two pick up times due to the wrestling schedule. The food was ready at both pick up times, and hot and delicious. I had ordered two party packs and there was more than enough food for the meal as well as leftovers for lunch the next day. So it's been a while since I've posted a review considering We have not really been eating out. So if my wife's Birthday we decided to give Malbon Brothers a try. We called the order and I paid when I got there, but cooks had no idea about my order, but I heard them talking and said this was another order they had no idea that was being picked up. However they did not let that phase them. It took about 15 mins to get my order ready. Thier service was fantastic once the order was ready they brought it to my car and loaded on the car for me. We ordered one of their party packages. We got 2.5 lbs Pork BBQ, 2.5 lbs Chicken BBQ, 2.5 lbs Beef Brisket, 2 lbs Coleslaw, 2 lbs Baked Beans, 2 lbs Mac & Cheese (and we ordered an extra lb because my family loves Mac & Cheese) , 2 Dozen Rolls, & 2 Bottle Billy's Pig Pickin Sauce. Overall the taste was great. For me personally I like my pork a little more "Stringy" with some actual chucks of pork left in the pulled pork not quite so cooked down. The chicken and beef had great flavor and texture more to my liking. I especially liked the saucue. I grew up out in the midwest so I am pretty picky on what BBQ I will eat. We will eat there again I just won't have the pork. So definitely give them a try. read more

Yes, a scoop of pulled pork is grilled to eating temperature and then rolled into a three egg omelet and served up fresh. I've never had one of these before, but it was excellent and I could totally do this again. A lot of food, very inexpensive. And no waiting for coffee refills. It's a gas station/convenience store so you get your own coffee anytime you like. After I'd finished my delicious and very filling meal of omelet, hash browns and white toast, I left a few bucks for the cook, topped off my coffee and was on my way. Got a Groupon at this place for "Family BBQ Meal" and Carwash. The family bbq meal was priced at $24.99 and the drive thru Carwash was priced at $22.00. Food - the portion of food that was given, wasn't even worth $15 if that. I saw tons of reviews saying this place has the best bbq, I'm sorry but I highly disagree. The pulled pork was WAY too sweet, I mean how much sugar do you put in your sauce? The cole slaw was runny and flavorless, the baked beans were decent but that was the highlight of the meal, which is sad in itself. Carwash - in no way, shape or form is this a $22 wash. Drive thru and my car is STILL dirty?!?? Jeezus Christ how in gods name are you still in business. Service - much like all the service you get in Virginia, mediocre if that.
