Visited on Sunday 7/27 and out of brisket, AGAIN. This is honestly the THIRD time that I visited and they have been out of brisket (..even pre-COVID). Since I had driven there, I ordered anyway, and ordered the half a yard bird. It was SO dried out that they gave me two. When the associate opened the box for me to view before bagging my items, I could tell she was embarrassed. She said, they were kinda small so we gave you two. Well the BBQ sauces had very little flavor where thin and watered-down lacked any real depth of flavor. Now the sides Cold slaw never had anything like it before hope I never do again cornbread had a fishy taste fries where not bad nothing special but not bad. Ok now the meat dry over done brisket did not even have a smoke ring that you would expect with smoked meat. mission barbecue has really pissed me off. It was like I walked into a kkk rally. I was the only black person in there and waited too long to not even be acknowledged. Mind you, no one was in front of me. I walked right up to the cash register. People turned to look at me, 2 ppl turned and just left the area, one was the manager. He was the only one NOT wearing a mask, but handling the food, also without gloves. 3 other ppl just stood there and looked. Cashier was on the phone and she never even looked up. After visiting this location weekly for several months and enjoying consistently excellent service and barbecue, we decided to order one of the spiral-sliced smoked hams that they were offering for Easter. Best ham ever! They had it oven-ready in a sturdy disposable aluminum pan, tightly wrapped in heavy-duty foil, with two generous tubs of glaze on the side and detailed instructions for reheating with and without glaze. The lot was packaged in a corrugated cardboard box with a complimentary container of their cheesy potatoes that one of the staff carried out to our car for us. The meat was moist and smoky-sweet with no trace of salt. I hope they don't make us wait until next Easter before they offer it again! read more

Ummm yum!!! Reminds me of Rudy's in Austin Texas. Brisket was really good! The best Briskets in Virginia by far. The brisket sliders for kids though was really hard.. my son could not eat them. Phenomenal food and service! I live right up the street from this place so I couldn't wait for the construction to be finished. Beautiful military/service décor. They have a plethora of food options and even ask if you would like this special cup (that could bring back and get $1 off your meal) and the proceeds go to help veterans I think?(It was a while ago so I can't exactly remember lol). My fiancé and I got the brisket, sausage (comes in 2 or 3 flavors), chicken?beans and it comes with cornbread. Great portions and tasty sauces . read more

I only have 2 comment: First, the food (all of it) was great! The turkey was amazing, the sausage was perfect, and the wet brisket couldn't have been better. The sides; cheesy potatoes, mac n cheese, and cornbread were great. If you've been to a Rudy's, then this place will look very familiar. My second comment is, I will not be going back simply because a restaurant that has military and first responder memorabilia all over the interior and a military truck parked outside should have the common courtesy to give military and first responders a discount. This place, as well as far too many establishments in this area, does not give a discount. Very disappointing. read more

We were so excited when we found out they were opening a Mission BBQ in Chesapeake. And the first several times we went it was awesome! The portions aren't as large as they would be in other parts of the country (the portions are small, let's be blunt), but it was good food and the service was decent. That all changed a few weeks ago. We went in and I asked for burnt ends with my brisket. It took 10 min and when they finally brought me my plate it was all fat (?). The baked beans were completely different than they had been other times we'd been there, and all my kids said their Mac and cheese "wasn't right" and wouldn't eat it. We're so disappointed! What happened?! Maybe someone in the back isn't following their standard recipes? We will try back in a few weeks. I hope they get these kinks worked out. read more

Great service and food. Ariana(employee) overheard me critiquing the amount of fat on the moist brisket to my lady. So she approached our table and long story short, came back with a lean brisket which was just as delicious. Another employee, blonde and courteous female but didn't catch her name, also stopped by to ask about the meal. Words really can't explain it but the customer service of these two young ladies was a huge change from some other dining experiences in the area. The atmosphere is great. Lots of military , police, fire, and EMS memorabilia. Very clean and just a great place with obvious outstanding management. read more

I gave this place a try on a Friday night and it did not disappoint. The pulled pork was tender and delicious, and the variety of sauces were good as well. The pulled chicken was tasty, but not as good as the pork. They put real corn in the cornbread and I'm not a fan of that, but I picked out the kernels. The only downside to this place is the physical design of the space. You have to wait for your food in the same area where people are trying to get drinks and utensils, and it causes a traffic jam. read more

This place reminds me of Dickies. Very similar menu but a totally different vibe. Dickies was my spot until it suddenly shut down. I am so glad that this is now a local option. There are plenty of meat options. Great side choices and best of all, choices of sauce. Tangy, mild, hot, blended. Eight in all I think. All excellent. They also have a strong military theme. Absolutely delicious. The staff is always friendly. The food is always fresh. My personal favorite is the brisket. I wasn't a big fan of the rolls they put their sandwiches on, but wasn't a huge issue. The Mac and cheese is pretty good, a little over cooked and flour-y. But still very tasty! First time at Mission, will definitely visit again. The young lady at the register was very nice and explained our options thoroughly. The prices are right in line with other local bbq houses in the area. We decided on both getting a two meat combo so we could get a taste of everything. We had the brisket, Turkey, regular sausage, and of course the pulled pork. All of it was delicious, well portioned, and juicy. The Mac n cheese is made in house and very good. I was craving barbecue for two days and mission BBQ did not disappoint. I got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese and it was amazing. My boyfriend got the brisket and fries and said they are really good as well. My visa gift card wasn't working at the register so they gave us two free pieces of carrot cake which was very good as well. Love this place. Food and service is great. But... I had the "burnt ends" tonight (they are not on the menu), and they are not real burnt ends. I learned to make burnt ends from brisket in Kansas, and burnt ends come from the fatty Point of the brisket. These were just pieces cut from the edge of the Flat part of the brisket. So, I have certainly had better. Probably won't order them again. read more
