Wow! Today was our first visit to Mission BBQ. It was absolutely incredible. The food, the service, and their staff was just amazing! Emmy checked on us often, I named her "The Goodwill Ambassador" of Mission BBQ. She was an absolute delight. I went wayyyyyy off my mark by getting the smoked cheeseburger. I normally would never order a burger at a BBQ place. I was NOT disappointed! It was delicious!!! So smoky, and juicy! It was a 6oz burger with lots of cheddar cheese, and lots of veggies, I couldn't finish it in one sitting. I also got the coleslaw, which I loved. My hubby got the 5pc ribs, baked beans, cornbread, and Mac n cheese. He loved everything! Of course I had to try all of his, and it was indeed all excellent. His ribs were so juicy you could actually see the juices dripping when he tore them apart. He tried every sauce they had too! lol We had an all around excellent meal, and a warm, inviting, and nostalgic experience. My husband and I both come from military families. Both of our grandads served in WW2, and Dads served in Korea and Vietnam. We were actually asked about donating pictures of our dads and grandads for their walls to be displayed. When traveling with dogs and looking for comfortable, outdoor seating, Mission BBQ was a good choice. The pulled pork, brisket and the French fries were delicious. Personally I love mission bbq and their mission. We first came across these in Colorado so I was hoping for the same great bbq and this place did not disappoint. I got the 2 meat platter with brisket and turkey. My hubby got the same except he got a jalapeno sausage instead of turkey. We both got fries which are gluten-free, YAY! Man, the food is just superb. The best BBQ in town. The wait staff is wonderful and Tomi was extremely attentive. She came through the dining area often to check on us. The food is amazing. I really like the brisket moist the most and the Texas Twang hits so nicely with it. The collars greens are my favorite. I need bigger portions, can you guys consider family size sides? Yes, really! I can't get enough. I'm stuffed whether I stay to eat it go home. I need a nap afterwards! The cornbread is good and the tea and lemonade or mix it for an Arnold Palmer. Best ever for fast food. Yummy! The staff are nice and friendly. I've tried all the dudes the baked beans are to die for, sweet potatoes are good but better whipped than whole, in my opinion, and the cheesy potatoes are ok. What a great experience here for lunch! We came in for a bite to eat and I ended up ordering the pulled pork and Mac & cheese. We sat down and before I know it, our food was ready. Upon getting our food, we realized that it was noon and we stood to sing the national anthem. Initially, I was a little caught off guard but when I looked around it was really cool to see everyone doing it in the restaurant on a common ground. We sat down and started to eat. The Mac and cheese was tasty and delicious. The different BBQ sauces were great, too. The general manager came and sat with us and chatted for awhile, which I absolutely loved. We had such great conversation and it was so cool to see someone truly care about the customer experience. We will definitely be back here! read more

Prices are much higher now, apparently. My husband was charged an extra $13 for a small side of fries and an iced tea yesterday to go with his "free" veterans (very dry) pulled pork sandwich. He was not given a receipt but was assured that the price of the sandwich (a special vet freebie for armed forces week) had already been taken off. Sorry, but not for us. We started to order and realized that everything is à la carte. This means there are no sides that come with the main items. For us, this was not a good value as every other BBQ restaurant we have ever been to includes 1 or 2 sides. It simply puts us at a price point that surpasses the value of the food. For this price of a meal, we can eat at a sit-down restaurant, be waited on and still end up paying less than an order at the counter, fast food, sort of restaurant as this one. So, we never had a chance to try the food. I cannot comment on that part of our experience. Only that we walked out before ordering as we didn't want to spend $25 each on BBQ. Plus, I do not eat meat and would have tried the fish options. Regarding their commitment to veterans, very commendable indeed! Not being a Vet, it was another experience out of our range, but again, nice that they recognize those who have served. read more

My second visit today and it was equal and maybe better than my first one. Coming here from the NC/SC area, with some of the BEST BBQ anywhere, MISSION BBQ is OUTSTANDING!!! The BBQ is moist with lots of smoky flavor. No matter how good the BBQ, if the Mac & Cheese doesn't pass muster, it doesn't bode well. The M&C here is fantastic with a good amount of crust and crunch to add to the creamy texture. Anyone who's been here at noon daily knows about the tradition. I won't spoil it for any first-timers. So I've avoided going to Mission BBQ for a couple of years, because their marketing and entire business model, is simply offensive and disengenous. They pander to Veterans, without any real connection. Neither of the owners are Veterans. That said, I was starving today and was driving by one, so I stopped in. Big mistake. First off, it's cafeteria/fast food style. Order at their counter, they give you a tray with your food and then you can find a seat. Next mistake? They serve Pepsi products. Any restaurant that serves Pepsi products, is managed by incompetents. Coke drinkers won't drink Pepsi. Simple. They'll go somewhere else. Pepsi drinkers don't care, they'll drink anything. Next? The food. I ordered the Beef Brisket sandwich, with 2 sides and a drink (got lemonade, I won't touch Pepsi). Ordered Mac 'n Cheese & Cole Slaw. The cole slaw was inedible. I'm not sure what they use for dressing, but it's not like any cole slaw dressing I ever tasted. Mac 'n cheese? Inedible. Not hot. I'm not sure what kind cheese they used, but they need a different one. Not good. Not fresh. Now the Brisket. I ate it. I was hungry. I won't eat again, even if it was free. What these people know about BBQ, wouldn't fit a thimble. It was pre-cooked probably days ago, then probably frozen, thawed and sliced with a mechanical slicer, a uniform 3/8" thick. To their credit, the portion size of the brisket was good ... it just tasted awful. It tasted more like a lean pot roast, that had been cooked for a week or two, then compressed like Spam. The Brisket sandwich was served on a low quality hamburger bun ... wasn't fresh. "Smokehouse" my butt. They supposedly "smoke/cook" their meats on-site ... where? You can smell meat being smoked ... not at Mission BBQ. Just to be sure, I drove around the building twice. No smoke. They use fans, you say? Sure, where do figured the fans, blow the smoke to? If you smoke meat, there's smoke ... unless they're brushing on their "smoke", which is possible. Can you tell I think this place is waste of your money? My Brisket sandwich, with Cole Slaw and little cup of Mac 'n Cheese and a lemonade, was $22. If it was good BBW, I'd pay $25 ... or more! As alternative to Mission BBQ, just wait until McDonald's brings back their boneless rib sandwich, it's a deal at $5.95 and way better than what you'll get at Mission BBQ. read more

What a great place. Our friends told us about this place so we tried it. Everyone working there were friendly. There was a woman that walked around checking if everyone needed anything. She actually came around twice. They honor the vets. They brought Rick Indian pudding for being a veteran. The whole place was nice inside and a lot of memorabilia that honor the veterans. It was also pleasantly quiet inside. If you've never been, you need to give it a try. It's worth going back to for us. read more

I won't eat BBQ anywhere except at Mission. The only item I don't like there is chopped brisket - sliced brisket is excellent, along with ALL of their other meats. The food was so fresh and delicious, we can't wait to come back. They do a lot for veterans, in our community especially, so it is good to support a business that gives back so big. It was our first time dining there, but we have eaten their food at several veterans events. They make their French fries there which is practically unheard these days. We have tried all the regulars and many of the mom and pop location but, from this moment on, this is our #1!! The baby backs are fall off the bone tender with a rub that would be widely popular. I had the sliced turkey and it was exceptionally moist. There were plenty of sauces with descriptions that lead you to just the right one. The corn bread is the best I've tasted- I even took extra home. They put tomatoes in their greens that gave them some extra sweetness to counter the extra vinegar I shook in. The green beans has WAY too much onion for our taste but, for an onion lover, they would hit the spot. The Mac n cheese was creamy and one of the better "not mine" versions I've tasted. We took enough home for my husband's dinner the next night as well as the "honor a veteran" apple cobbler. The decor also highlight the contributions of our veterans and that really please my USN Retired husband. But circling back to the beginning, it was their people that really made the difference. Absolutely the best service I've ever witnessed. Let me start by saying, this was our first time ever visiting this location. My aunt and uncle came into town (Jacksonville) and I brought them to that location and they've loved Mission ever since. My aunt, uncle, and I went to visit my cousin in Ocala. My aunt was so excited to see there's a Mission BBQ there, so we all went to visit this location. It had the same Mission vibes to it. Nice country music, nice employees, yummy food! The collards tasted even better at this location than the one I usually visit. My cousin's fiancé is military and one of the employees came to the table to thank him for his service. She returned later with free brownies and once again thanked him. I had asked if they had RC and they didn't, but the employee came by with free sample cups of Cheerwine. I wish I had gotten her name because she was very kind. I've never witnessed that kind of service at a Mission BBQ before. They usually never come to the table, lol. Very good good food, you can simply taste the freshness compared to other BBQ restaurants. Fry's are cut in house and a variety of 7 different sauces to try. Great sweet tea. Overall my favorite place to go for absolutely delicious, fresh food. Customer service is A1, nothing I've ever been accustomed to. I woke up with BBQ on my brain Sunday morning and knew exactly where I'd be going for good olé Texas style BBQ in Florida, MISSION BBQ in The Villages. I got the three meat combo, lean brisket, chopped chicken and some wonderfully smoked turkey, with the brisket baked beans and green beans. I've been to 100 BBQ places across this country over the last 40 years, and lived in Texas and NC, and tried them all including places in Memphis. Bar none, this is my #1 choice. Brisket had a nice smoke ring, very moist and lean (requested), and generous serving. Veterans get preferred parking and a free side when they go. I supported a First Responder program and have a cup to get free drinks. Tyler was out asking if we needed anything and offering free dessert to first responders and Veterans. I am blow away by the experience. Clean, nice folks, reasonable price, generous portions. read more
