Had a girls dinner at Mission BBQ last week. My first visit. It is a go through the line, order your food and a waitress will bring it to you set up. You can order a sandwich and then add a side or two and a drink for an extra fee ($3 for side and drink $4 for two sides and drink) or you can just add sides or a drink which costs a bit more. Or you can order the meat only (brisket, chicken, or pork). I think the meat only was a half pound serving, a bit more than the sandwich and it came with cornbread. You can add the side(s) and drink to the meat order as well. I had the brisket. It comes plain and you add the BBQ sauce at the table (6 choices). The sweetest sauce was not quite sweet enough for me. However the brisket was juicy and tender and what I brought home and added my own BBQ sauce too was very good. I had the cole slaw and hand cut French fries. The slaw again was not sweet enough for me, a tangy flavor. The French fries were very good, served hot and crispy. The cornbread was sweet and I used it as my dessert. The waitress who delivers your food and comes around to check on you the night we were there was extremely friendly and helpful, almost too much so. She asked repeatedly if we were OK, was the food OK, did we need anything? A bit over the top for me. The place has a family atmosphere and is run by ex military folks (I think) since that is the theme. Lots of memorabilia on the walls of military focus. All in all I would recommend. read more

I had such high hopes and really wanted to like it. The staff were all super friendly and the restaurant was clean. The pulled chicken looked and smelled delicious, but tasted like it had a whole can of salt in it. The green beans were kind of slimy. The fries were pretty good. read more

Was Here for volleyball tournament and found their place for dinner. Absolutely Incredible Texas style que and the aroma inside was unbelievable good. Meat and sauce selections were wonderful, as well as the service. Brisket was so flavorful you could skip the sauce.....but you have to have that too as it's soo good It was so good we ate here a second time before we went home. I like this place. This is some of the best pulled pork that I have ever tried. As a public service employee, it was really neat to get to look around at all of the patches on the walls :) Pricing is al la carte. I have to recommend the pulled pork and moist brisket. I was not a fan of the ribs... I felt like they needed a few more hours on the smoker, as they were hardly tender. In terms of the sides, I really enjoy the fries (I am always surprised at how often restaurants mess this up). I enjoy the KC BBQ sauce, but I recommend sampling them all! I would not have tried the KC BBQ based on the bottle description but I am so glad that I did. Oh, did I mention? Service is incredibly genuine and friendly. I was only visiting town when I ate here. The food was excellent, the waiters were very nice, and the bbq options were pretty good. A group of veterans sat at the middle table and got to tell everyone what they served, one man had turned 100(maybe older)that day. They all got free deserts that looked freaking AMAZING! If I wasn't so full I would've asked for some of that cheese cake, or mixed berry roll, or brownie. It was a very nice experience and it wasn't to costly. 10/10 I'd love to eat there again! read more

I've been to Mission BBQ three times now and have never been disappointed. Since starting to eat very low carb I like being able to get a nice selection of meats so pack in some low carb protein and being able to choose weather or not to slather on the sauce. All three times I've gotten the three meat combo twice with the moist brisket, pulled pork, and jalapeño cheese sausage and once with the pulled chicken in place of the pulled pork. All of the meats have a nice smoked flavor and I really love the crust on the brisket. The pulled pork is flavorful and not too dry and the pulled chicken is very moist and is very generously seasoned. Both were good but I liked the pork better and my husband liked the chicken better. The jalapeño cheese sausage is smoky and spicy and the cheese is creamy. It's really delicious and different from the other selections so it makes it a nice addition to the sampler. For my side each time I've had the green beans with bacon to keep the carbs low and they are very good. They are a little bit sweet and chock full of bacon. On our first visit we bought the upgraded cups that donate $2 to the veterans and when we bring them back we get refills for $.99 which is cool. Over all I'd say the food is a solid four stars but the employees have been super friendly each time, the restaurant is always clean, the food comes out very quickly and their bathrooms are beautiful and immaculately clean which I sooo appreciate. Our lunch today in the office was compliments of Mission BBQ. Being that we are a "Service Disabled Veteran Owned Company" which serves Veterans daily, they offered free lunch for everyone. First of all we sincerely appreciate the acknowledgement of not only our service but those who have served and those in law enforcement. What a novel approach in today's oh so unpatriotic times. Secondly, the food (period). Everything was phenomenal. Best BBQ I have eaten in a while and the sides were about perfect including the chocolate chip brownies! Great chain bbq. Look, it's not KC, St Louis, or Texas bbq but around here, it's pretty good. The service is great. It's a toss up between this place and City Bbq and a notch ahead of Martin's BBQ in the Germantown neighborhood. Martin's sauce is vinegar based. Mission and City BBQ give you several sauce options. I wish it were like Rudy's Country Store and BBQ and give you slices of white bread . .. but you can't have everything. read more

OMG!!! This is not only the BEST BBQ in the city, (do not miss the mac & cheese!.) But you just feel great about eating here! My family has not found one thing that was not delicious and the fact they support the military, law enforcement, fire fighters and any other branch I missed is such a bonus. Me and my Husband just left here after reading yelp and residing to Patron this restaurant. We just got out of Worship and decided we wanted BBQ. So we go in the business it's a center table with a lot of people at it , tables labeled for social distancing. We have never been here before, so we're looking around trying to see if they do the seating! There are two. lady's we see they never say hello etc etc. so a group of sorry white people come in not only do they get a shout hello, she starts to move to hep them, as she sees me and then here me say she never greeted us she then comes running over acting like she now what's to service us. She says do you know to come to the counter and order! I said no we have never been here! Then she starts to give me a half sorry and I tell her we are living thanks but no thanks. Very disappointed in this place I want be recommending Anyone to patron this business but I will be doing just the opposite! read more

Went here on a Saturday night around 530. I walked in and stood in line for maybe 30 seconds before ordering. The lady taking my order was very helpful as this was my first time here. I ordered the 2 meat combo with 2 sides. The cheddar and jalapeno smoked sausage and brisket were both fabulous. My two sides were the 5 cheese Mac n cheese which was outstanding and the corn casserole that was also really good. Cornbread comes with the meal which was simply average. The sauces are on the table which my favorite was the tupelo honey, which was like a spicy honey sauce. The sweet tea was awesome and the service was top notch! Wow! Five stars for sure!! The food was amazing and the perfect proportion. It came out hot and fast. The cashiers helped me through my order since it was my first time. The lemonade and sweet tea were perfectly southern. It was a great size restaurant with plenty of seats even though it was pretty busy at 7pm. And the atmosphere was cool! It is military themed and they had memorabilia from everywhere! Really cool to look at it all! I got the jalapeño and cheese sausage, cheesy potatoes and corn bread! I love that there is a BBQ restaurant in St. Matthews now and I was excited to give it a try this weekend. I love that they give back to help veterans and service men and that they have themed the restaurant to reflect that. The server that took our order was friendly and helped us with recommendations since it was our first time. Ultimately, Louisville has a lot of great bbq and the bbq at Mission left me wanting. I felt like their chicken dry and I have had much better brisket at several other places in the city. The hand cut fries were tasty and the rest of my table raved about the mac & cheese. We enjoyed all the bbq sauce choices right at our table as well. I would definitely go back, but this won't be my top recommendation for Louisville BBQ. read more

Tried this based on its rating in yelp. Got a three meat sampler and rack of baby backs. The sampler was ok but the ribs were not. The bark was way hard and they made my hotel room smell like a run over skunk on the highway. The baked beans were good and so were the green beans. Cornbread also was good. I really like the atmosphere and the friendly staff! Also very helpful with making the selection for your taste buds! My wife got the smoked salmon, cold slaw, fries and lemonade! Topped with the house BBQ sauce! She ate it pretty fast and the. Said she was stuffed! Which means it was delicious! I got the pulled pork, potato salad, bake beans, corn bread, some stolen season fries from my wife and lemon side. We rode our bikes to Mission to get some food for take out. We ordered a pound of chicken and brisket and some sausage. The meat is delicious. The brisket is fantastic w just the right amount of char and the flavor is outstanding. There are a few dry spots but overall some of my favorite brisket in the city. The chicken is also delicious. Shredded with tons of flavor. The sauces are awesome. My favorite is the sweet honey and a close second is the Carolina with some vinegar. Yummy. We didn't try sides. I took a bite of the cornbread which was full of actual corn and had a fantastic flavor. We will go back for sure. Service at counter was awesome. Very friendly. read more
