The food is some of the best I've had. The pulled pork was tender and lean. The rolls were soft and warm. The cornbread tasted like my mom used to make A little crumbly, a little sweet, Wish I'd thought about ordering some for home! The best part about Mission is Will and his staff without exception, everyone was pleasant and had something nice to say. Chris, a staff member, brought us a sample of their new sausage (not too spicy, just really good!) But as good as the food is, the best part is the staff and service. They are true patriots. Not celebrating one party or another, but our country and military. It was so uplifting to hear positive comments when talking politics! My husband and I recently went to Mission BBQ in Sterling Heights with a group of friends. This was our first time, but will not be the last. The service was excellent. Our server, Hayden, was especially attentive, making sure we were all enjoying our meals . I had the pulled chicken sandwich and fries and my husband had the brisket sandwich with greens. The portions were large, the meats were tender, moist and delicious, and everything was served hot. My husband said the greens were the best he's had in a restaurant. A few of our friends had the ribs, and raved about how good they were. We will be returning to try them. The entire staff on duty was involved in making this visit special for us. The order of the day was #CollardGreens. Left the house early, had an appt. then went on the hunt. Tried 2 places to no avail, then, #Score, the Googlies sent me to MissionBBQ. I had never been there before but the menu said, #KickingCollardGreens, so I knew I was on the right track. Stepped inside, there was a shprt line in front of me (3ppl). Chatted w/the couple in front of me, inquired if they'd been there before. They said no, but we totally agreed that the aromas that greet you when you walk in, will guarantee you will be staying. I had questions and Will, the gentleman behind the counter, stepped around the to walk me through the ordering process. Everything is ala carte; they have chicken, shrimp, ribs, pork, turkey & salmon. Sides include slaw, potatoes, green beans, Mac and cheese & the most incredible greens (def "kicking"). I had a hankering for ribs to go with my greens, so I went with them. There was plastic silverware on the counter and Will pointed out the #ToolBox where they keep condiments, toothpicks and such. My food was delivered in less than 10 min. As I was told, the meat literally fell off the bone. It was cooked to perfection. The greens were amazing: taste and texture, and meatless, for folks looking for that. Cornbread that your mama would claim as homemade in a hot minute. They have regular hot sauce but also some special sauces: ask your server if you're interested in expanding your seasoning repertoire. The restaurant is bright, clean and feels very comfy. Staff were very kind and helpful. Way cool memorabilia decorated the walls. Huge military theme inside: there's some major history here: lots of badges, pins, medals, etc. as well as framed sports jerseys and the like. You must try the cheesecake: NOT an option. It has cherries on top and is the closest to my mom's than any I've ever had in a restaurant. She made hers with a graham cracker crust; this was very similar. Do not miss out. I like Mission BBQ and keep meaning to stop here but I finally made it in. I think their other locations in Troy which I've dined at before. I usually get the brisket in some form since I don't eat pork at all. It's a Veteran friendly place and even though their not cheap, the foods pretty spot on. I went with a chopped brisket sandwich with fries and a fountain drink. Total cost was $20. They only do a la carte unless you get an entree but that's far to much food for me, which is why I stick with the sandwich meals. Food is great and their self service drink station is always so clean here. Very organized with plenty of spoons, forks, straws and such to choose from. the BBQ sauces are pretty good and I rotated between the house sauce and the smokey one. If I had 60 seconds to explain America to someone from a real country I would take them to the place proudly handing out free pulled pork sandwiches to cops on 9/11. Set in a strip mall on an eight-lane divided highway cutting through sprawling, finely parceled suburbia, Mission BBQ appropriates and synthesizes everything about the ongoing Reaganite era. Most of all, Troop Worship as surface-level branding: reproduction paraphernalia and apocryphal stories of wartime bravery line the walls; outside is a single, performative Veterans Only parking space. It was empty, as it's mathematically likely to be at any given time, and they should just ban anyone from parking there, like a retired jersey, a monument to the Fallen Troop who will never get the chance to taste the Al Qaeda Poison (that's what they call their house BBQ sauce (they don't call it that because they lack a warrior's discipline)). The Mission of the founders, who are themselves veterans (of Under Armour and Outback Steakhouse), is to recast consumption of pan-American, vaguely Texas-slanted barbecue as a patriotic act. Do they hire veterans and pay them well and give them excellent benefits? There's simply no way to tell. But come at noon and you'll hear The Star-Spangled Banner played overhead. A portion of the proceeds benefit The Troops. A larger portion benefits Goldman Sachs, which finances the chain's rapid expansion. About portions: they're pretty decent. If the brisket were mind-blowing I'd be the first to give it five stars despite the hollow fascism-Lite, but it's merely above-adequate. Sides are better, which is typical for most BBQ joints, let alone a chain. The food seems well-made, it's not slop, the kids serving me were friendly. I hated everything that happened within physical proximity of the restaurant but once I dug in it was fine. Today I had a specialty sandwich, one that isn't on the menu. Called the Tennessee Tower sandwich, it was simply amazing!! Starting with a standard bun, the first layer was pickles and onions. Next came sliced turkey and jalapeno sausage, topped with fries and cole slaw. Then Alabama White sauce was drizzled over top of everything. OK, I gave this location another another try. One of my coworkers and I came in for lunch about 1130 today. I found the restaurant very clean, and the woman at the counter to be very friendly. We both ordered the three meat sampler, and side of green beans, and a fountain drink. Our total was $51 and some change. We sat down and enjoyed our lunch. Everything was very good. Nothing was spectacular, but the food was fresh and we enjoyed our lunch. The meal was one of their larger portions, which wasn't all of that large for me as I eat more than most people. On the way back to work, I stopped at a convenience store to cleanse my pallet with a Diet Coke, as they only have Pepsi products, and I also got a few bags of almonds, as I still was sort of unsatisfied. My sides: Baked Beans - lots of meat in the beans and the sauce was super delicious and tangy Mac n Cheese - very filling, was thick in texture with plenty of cheese Collard greens - loved it with the greens cooked to the right texture Green Beans - my favorite, with the beans cooked down, bacon added for flavor and just the right amount of vinegar for taste Sweet potato mash - wonderful with the perfect blend of spices as for the Salmon - It was a large cut but too dry for my taste but mom said she found the salmon to be cooked perfectly I didn't have a drink but they have bottles in ice of old fashioned pop like Frosty Root Beer or Grape Nee-Hi, they also have a pop machine to serve yourself. They have a cool, extra large tool-box that holds salt, pepper, mustard, etc. On the table there are roles of paper towels and a case holding 6 different types of BBQ sauce to add to your meats. I tried all six of the sauces and like the classic the best. The BBQ sauce taste test is a lot of fun. There is plenty of seating but no padded booths...I guess that is for sissies, lol. Recently discovered this "fast food" restaurant and it's been a fantastic experience eating there! My husband and I love the "two-meat" sampler where you pick your meat choices and choose out of nine different meat sauces! It also comes with delicious macaroni and cheese and cornbread or brownie. They have eleven different side dishes such as cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, and green beans. Their menu is large, full of choices to fit anyone's taste buds. The service is Amazing! I've been in the Sterling Hts location one time and my vegetarian daughter got some delicious Mac and cheese just to stave off some immediate hunger after dress shopping at the mall. Recently, my company bought lunch from Mission BBQ and even considering one of our people picking up and bringing it in it was still warm and delicious. We had green beans and bacon, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread, potatoes au gratin, rolls, their various sauces and some cookies and brownies. I tried everything but the brownies and it was all so good. Like I said, I've never been a big BBQ fan. I've been to all the best places in the Carolinas, Kansas and Texas. It's just not something that I want to go out of my way for. But this was the BEST brisket! The cornbread was great, and the cheesy potatoes were the "lemme go back for thirds" kind of awesome. The sauces were also good and a bit unusual. My only recommendation - and maybe they have this and I just don't know about it - is to offer a Carolina vinegar-based sauce. Because when I do have pulled pork that's the stuff I prefer., I definitely need to try their Black Plate Special Prime Rib. Next time I'm in the area I'll stop in and try some stuff hot out of the kitchen. Finally, my compliments to them for their focus on military and first responders. We went to Mission BBQ on a Tuesday night. It's very casual and you can sit anywhere you like. It's not fussy at all. The prices are very fair. You order at the counter and the cashier will ask for your name. Once you pay, you wait for them to call your name at the counter and pick up your food and take it to whatever table you like. Every table has paper towel, a bottle of vinegar, and a set of 6 different BBQ sauces on it for you to use and choose from. Both of us ordered the brisket which you can choose to specify as moist or lean. We also each ordered 2 sides and a drink with it. I chose the cheesy potatoes and green beans. He chose the Mac n cheese and green beans. It also came with corn bread. The brisket was incredible. It was so tender and moist and had so much flavor it was insane. We tried all of the different BBQ sauces, my personal favorite was the smoky sauce - it was awesome. The green beans were good but the cheesy potatoes were superb. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. We had their black plate special which is a special they have for a period of time. It was bbq shrimp and they were amazing. We had salmon which had a great smoky flavor and a pulled chicken sandwich. They have a special gluten free menu and a special frier so the fries are gluten free here and very good. For our sides we had the greens, broccoli salad, baked beans, and cheesy potatoes. All were great. They have a nice selection of bbq sauces, vinegar and mustard. They have staff walking around and checking on you and how you're doing.
