    Wall art: military themed.

The order of the day was #CollardGreens. Left the house early, had an appt. then went on the hunt. Tried 2 places to no avail, then, #Score, the Googlies sent me to MissionBBQ. I had never been there before but the menu said, #KickingCollardGreens, so I knew I was on the right track. Stepped inside, there was a shprt line in front of me (3ppl). Chatted w/the couple in front of me, inquired if they'd been there before. They said no, but we totally agreed that the aromas that greet you when you walk in, will guarantee you will be staying. I had questions and Will, the gentleman behind the counter, stepped around the to walk me through the ordering process. Everything is ala carte; they have chicken, shrimp, ribs, pork, turkey & salmon. Sides include slaw, potatoes, green beans, Mac and cheese & the most incredible greens (def "kicking"). I had a hankering for ribs to go with my greens, so I went with them. There was plastic silverware on the counter and Will pointed out the #ToolBox where they keep condiments, toothpicks and such. My food was delivered in less than 10 min. As I was told, the meat literally fell off the bone. It was cooked to perfection. The greens were amazing: taste and texture, and meatless, for folks looking for that. Cornbread that your mama would claim as homemade in a hot minute. They have regular hot sauce but also some special sauces: ask your server if you're interested in expanding your seasoning repertoire. The restaurant is bright, clean and feels very comfy. Staff were very kind and helpful. Way cool memorabilia decorated the walls. Huge military theme inside: there's some major history here: lots of badges, pins, medals, etc. as well as framed sports jerseys and the like. You must try the cheesecake: NOT an option. It has cherries on top and is the closest to my mom's than any I've ever had in a restaurant. She made hers with a graham cracker crust; this was very similar. Do not miss out. I am so grateful that I was led to this establishment. They truly have a #Mission and my day was made with the kindness of the folks there. Mr. Will, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'll be back. You must visit soon!

I crave the brisket! Get the moist! The flats are always lean but less flavor! Omg the sliced turkey is tender and lightly smoked. The slaw side is a good sized portion! The sauces are delish! The staff was spot on! Don't miss the birthday promo!

3 meat choice n 2 sides with cornbread

Food and service was great. You order at the counter and wait while it's cut and put on tray. The meat is priced by how many choices you want and you can add on sides and drink. Gets expensive. I didn't care for the baked beans but the Mac n cheese was ok. I had to try all the bbq sauces of course. Get the bread pudding to go. It's worth it. Delish !!

Review #478 June 30, 2024 - Sunday True Statement of the Business: Mission BBQ Is The American Way Since 9/11/2011 with authentic homemade flavors in their freshly prepared and cooked meats with special sassy ingredients! (Try their 10 sauces) The atmosphere is casual with walls and walls of memorabilia honoring the military. There's Wheelchair accessible entrance, in dining areas, and the restrooms for disabled and military disabled. I have dined inside this location a few times in 2023 for lunch and dinner since it opened. Upon walking in I can smell the flavors and see the display of Grilling and Cooking all types of foods to enjoy. Then on June 16th, I recently brought home a carry-out feast to feed 4-6 hungry appetites. Many Photos attached Upon walking in this Sterling Heights Michigan location I was amazed and thrilled to see and read the many "Tributes of Service" made in our country of those served and earned honors. Check out the pictures on the walls throughout seating in the Patriotic dining room of the brave men and women who have sworn to protect and serve our communities near and far. Thank You All For Your Dedicated Service! There are soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and first responders in this Mission BBQ who also receive meals when visiting inside too. I can say I have tried 4 of the 10 sauces that have different names based on the flavors and taste. Memphis Belle is my favorite sauce to add to pulled chicken or pork meats. The Beef Brisket chunks are already seasoned and flavored with a kick and sassy taste too. Oh My Deeeeelicious is Mission BBQ Famous Maggie's Mac N Cheese with Great combo cheesy flavors, crispy crust on top and What A Cheese Pull !!!! The Cornbread is very good and sweet in taste. At the dining room tables are sauces to try and beverage areas to self-serve. Hours At This Location: Monday through Saturday 11AM - 9PM Sunday 11:30 AM - 8 PM. Phone: (586) 290-2781 NO Reservations. Gluten Free & Allergy Menu Catering Menu When I placed My Carry-Out ordered 3 days ahead of time in person, it was nice to meet with Nicole one of the managers who was very helpful with the details of a 4 Person Feast Dinner: 2 - 1# each on meat choices and 3 sides along with Sliders Buns and 1 sauce choice. I saw her again to pick up on Sunday the 16th and it was busy since a holiday. I was in and out with my order in less than 15 minutes so High Fives to her crew ! * Note Carry-Out orders are packaged up when you arrive in the restaurant so that Food Orders will be prepared Fresh & Hot. Therefore, I enjoyed briefly (10 Minutes) at the counter watching her cooking team, serving team and carryout team of employees package up My Order Feast with 2 meats, 4 sides and slider buns in separate bags for traveling home. Thank You Janet that Sunday evening for a free beverage to drink while waiting for My bag of food. Again My Carry-Out order was Hot & Fresh and the leftovers for two days even better to reheat . Thank YOU Mission BBQ for your Welcoming Hospitality To All and Comfort Foods by serving those who serve and the promotions that are offered monthly. I salute You All for your Business, Meaning & Purpose in Sterling Heights, Michigan. 5 Stars for Ambiance, Food & Service! ***** Sincerely, Karen N. SpecialK :-) Happy Summer & July !

Very good. Tasty BBQ Generous portions of a quality food. The meat was well flavored. They don't rely on the sauce to flavored their BBQ. Although the sauces are tasty as well. High recommend! Plus your purchases go towards a good cause.

Today I had a specialty sandwich, one that isn't on the menu. Called the Tennessee Tower sandwich, it was simply amazing!! Starting with a standard bun, the first layer was pickles and onions. Next came sliced turkey and jalapeno sausage, topped with fries and cole slaw. Then Alabama White sauce was drizzled over top of everything. Lucky me, I remembered to snap a picture or two before I dug in. The sandwich was most excellent! Service, as usual, was superb. Take a veteran here for a great meal!

OK, I gave this location another another try. One of my coworkers and I came in for lunch about 1130 today. I found the restaurant very clean, and the woman at the counter to be very friendly. We both ordered the three meat sampler, and side of green beans, and a fountain drink. Our total was $51 and some change. We sat down and enjoyed our lunch. Everything was very good. Nothing was spectacular, but the food was fresh and we enjoyed our lunch. The meal was one of their larger portions, which wasn't all of that large for me as I eat more than most people. On the way back to work, I stopped at a convenience store to cleanse my pallet with a Diet Coke, as they only have Pepsi products, and I also got a few bags of almonds, as I still was sort of unsatisfied. Again, very good food clean restaurant I love the police, fire, and military theme.

    So much memorabilia to admire

I love the smell of BBQ when I walk in! There was a line this Friday evening but it moved very quickly. They have a lot of interesting and respectful memorabilia to look at while waiting in line. All the workers are current or ex-military or service professionals such as officers or fire-personnel. The meats are ordered separately then you can decide which kind of sides you would like to have. I selected the salmon with 5 sides. I knew I would be taking home some to mom so I ordered an extra amount of sides. My sides: Baked Beans - lots of meat in the beans and the sauce was super delicious and tangy Mac n Cheese - very filling, was thick in texture with plenty of cheese Collard greens - loved it with the greens cooked to the right texture Green Beans - my favorite, with the beans cooked down, bacon added for flavor and just the right amount of vinegar for taste Sweet potato mash - wonderful with the perfect blend of spices as for the Salmon - It was a large cut but too dry for my taste but mom said she found the salmon to be cooked perfectly I didn't have a drink but they have bottles in ice of old fashioned pop like Frosty Root Beer or Grape Nee-Hi, they also have a pop machine to serve yourself. They have a cool, extra large tool-box that holds salt, pepper, mustard, etc. On the table there are roles of paper towels and a case holding 6 different types of BBQ sauce to add to your meats. I tried all six of the sauces and like the classic the best. The BBQ sauce taste test is a lot of fun. There is plenty of seating but no padded booths...I guess that is for sissies, lol. Look at the impressive memorabilia, admire the impressive staff and enjoy that BBQ goodness!

There is likely better barbecue in the area. Each meat varied heavily in quality, so they will be rated individually below. I ordered the Pitmaster's Platter, which included multiple samples of the meats. Meats Beef Brisket (2/5): For some reason, this brisket was extremely dry. There was no moisture between the meat fibers. When doing the brisket bend test over a finger, the brisket barely even moved. The bark had the texture of jerky. I would not recommend this meat option. Pulled Pork (3/5): The pulled pork was moist in some places and dry in others. This meat was extremely average. There were some parts of the pulled pork with a heavy smoke flavor, which I did appreciate. Pulled Chicken (2/5): This was just as dry as the brisket. There were small portions that did have some moisture, but I could not finish the dry portions. Cheddar Jalapeno Sausage (4/5): This meat was the best among the options. Incredibly juicy, heavy on the seasoning, and the cheese was oozing out of the sausage. If I were to come back, I would order this again. Ribs (2/5): Again, just as dry as the other meats. There was no pull, and the meat was tough on the outside. Sides Mac & Cheese (3/5): This macaroni and cheese was nothing special, despite other reviews raving about it. It is a standard mac and cheese with slightly soggy breadcrumbs on top. Coleslaw (5/5): Somehow, this was the best part of the meal. The coleslaw tasted extremely fresh. There was just enough sauce to coat the vegetables without taking away from their quality and crunch. The coleslaw being the best part of the meal says a lot about this establishment. I do not think I will be coming back here again.

Bad Brad's quality is still top notch, and they must have great management as their servers have been over the top good at each location year after year. It's hard to not complain about pricing in 2026... Brisket (or "premium meats") being added to meals is $3.25 ABOVE the normal price, and they now have "premium sides", which are also served with an upcharge on top of the menu price... I get that there a lot of complexities at the moment, and I'm hopeful that prices will come down in short order as it's really hard to justify ALL of these extra costs. I figured it was a better value this time around to get the 1/2 Chicken and add sliced brisket; sides were mac & cheese and BBQ chowder. Despite my gripes about pricing, this was an exceptional meal!!! The brisket was great as always; not too fatty, not too dry and tender, with a great smoke flavor! Sides were great as always... that BBQ chowder gets me each time and the mac & cheese was HOT, very flavorful and just hit the spot as a perfect comfort food. I took the chicken home with some of the sauces and it was just great as well... Even after being reheated in the air fryer, it was tender and juicy with zero toughness/stringiness. It was a really nice smoked bird! GOOD BBQ is hard to find, but Bad Brad's is still doing it right, even after all of these years!

They took the time to explain the most popular flavors and gave great recommendations, which we really appreciated. The only downside were the sides. The onion rings and fries didn't seem to have any seasoning. So, they tasted a bit plain compared to the bold, flavorful chicken. I'd definitely come back for the chicken alone.
