I honestly don't think I've had a cold brew this smooth that tasted this good in a while. The balance between the flavor and cold brew was just right ! He made a vanilla cold brew w/ milk and it was great! Service was extremely nice and I love the little set up they got going on here! Confusing for anyone looking up coffee on Yelp who may not be familiar with the area. This is located right at the entrance of the Salvation Army Kroc arena. There is 2 table to stand but no tables, etc. Great spot for a grab and go if you happened to be in the plaza as there are so many activities going on! All the hockey parents enjoyed their coffees, I had a mango smoothie instead which was delicious and refreshing. The spicy bacon grilled cheese is made on a panini press and the bacon is crumbled, not in strips with pepper jack cheese. Beautifully crispy and hot, it made for a delightful drive home. Well...the first couple minutes. Highly recommend if you're already enjoying your day there. I wouldn't go out of my way IMO. read more

This coffee shop is located inside the Salvation Army Kroc center for anyone who might get confused. It's right by the pool! It's not a coffee shop, it's just like a little walk up coffee place. No places to sit, at least not today since it was rainy. I'm not sure if maybe they set chairs and tables out in sunny days. It's pretty convenient for people who go to the Kroc center though! I got the cortado, it's alright! I've tasted cortados and maybe it's the beans used but I get this burnt like taste or a strong like taste that I'm not just not a fan of. I love love love the concept of this place but the first 2 times I came I didn't love their coffee. So I am hoping I will love it this time because I love their food menu and I love that they are open to the pool and their hours are Monday- Friday until 6 pm!!! And Saturday till 5 so you can get a coffee or food item at the deck of the pool at the Kroc center and get a coffee after your workout. This little place makes some pretty good coffee. I enjoyed a Cafe au Lait with a medium roast, I believe it was the Wind & Sea Blend, with about 70% coffee and 30% steamed milk. The coffee was well made other than a slight fruity flavor but with a little tang as well. It good, don't get me wrong, and I thought they did a great job with the steamed milk adding the frothy top and creaminess to the Cafe au Lait. The staff member, who I believe was also the owner, was very nice easy going. He does not mind making modification to your drinks. They offer outside seating only and some pretty good eats as well I hear, especially the breakfast sandwiches. They are located right in front of the Joan Crock Center. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for about a month because it's close by and the reviews were good. I also love a good mom and pop also supporting local businesses. So I finally made it over and it's at the Salvation Army center. The whole center is very nice with tons of parking so I figured I wouldn't have a problem with parking. Right across from Mission Brew are two or three reserved parking spaces just for Mission Brew customers. Time to order and it's a nice little menu but I just order a peach flavor smoothie a some little organic cookie thing. As I'm taking a picture of the menu the employee says my drink is ready. I go to get it then he walks to the back of the little hut. I stood there for about five seconds waiting for him to give me a straw. This was my first time here mind you but the customer behind me said the straws are on the other side. Now how come the employee didn't tell me that? I also gave the employee a tip before this which I should've gave to the guy who told me where the straws were. Not everyone that comes here is a regular, come on man! Conveniently located coffee and food stand in the Kroc center. It's right in the front and center of the center and a perfect place to grab a drink or bite to eat if you're at the pool, dropping off for a kids program or at the preschool or Thrive High School. They have all different coffee and espresso drinks as well as baked goods and warmed sandwiches. We had some of the croissant sandwiches for lunch and they were delicious. This has become my favorite place for coffee in San Diego. I love the iced caramel macchiato's and there's something special about the brew of the coffee that is better than anywhere else and also the service and the setting. Love this little coffee shop, and walking distance from my house!! They always have a tasty house coffee going on and I really like that. Occasionally I will order a latte or cappuccino, but haven't tried theirs as of yet. From the moment the window slides open you're slammed in the face with rich coffee and pastry aromas! For a small place, they have a pretty good selection of stuff and also can make paninis and smoothies. Looks like everything on menu is under $5, which is hard to beat at many other places. This is one of my favorite coffee carts in San Diego, and a little gem in La Mesa :) I love the blended mocha here, and I used to get it on a weekly basis during summer. Located outside the Salvation Army Joan Kroc Center, Mission Brew Coffee is a kiosk inside the center's Central Tower by the University Ave entrance. This place has big selection of coffees, teas, smoothies, and sandwiches. Considering the Kroc Center has a gym and a pool, this sounds like a good place to hit up for a bite post workout/swim. Adjacent to the window where you order, there are a set of tables reserved just for customers. For parents who take their children here for swim lessons, those tables are on the other side of the fence. So if you want, you can kick back with a cup of coffee with your child in clear view at all times. If not, they have two windows, one that faces University, and the other facing the pool. Just let them know which window you want to pick up your food from. Service is fast and friendly. I enjoyed the Cold Brew with Almond Milk and Spicy Bacon Grilled Cheese sandwich I ordered, but I couldn't help but feel that my sandwich was a bit overpriced at $4. Looking at the Menu pictures posted on this Yelp page, they've raised their 2014-15 prices. My Almond Milk add on was $.60 and my 16 oz Cold Brew was $3.50. Since I enjoyed their Cold Brew that much, I do want to try other drinks on the menu at a later date, so I will be coming back. I'm most tempted to use the option to text them my order for my next visit. With the way that Mission Brew Coffee is set up, I think that is a great option for those who just want to pick up their coffee before heading to work or school in the morning without waiting in long lines in the drive thru. read more

The americanos here are STRONG. For reference, americanos from Starbucks come with 2 shots for a tall, 3 for a grande, 4 for a venti. The americanos here at Mission Brew come with 4 shots for a small, 4 for a medium, and 6 for a large. They'll wake you up and wake up your dead grandparents. Also, this is the only place I know that serves a "Ginger Joe." Its ingredients you wouldn't think of putting together: cold brew coffee, ginger beer, and a lime. But let me tell you, it works. This is a small, walk-up only place on the outside of the Kroc Center. There's plenty of parking. Definitely worth a stop if you're already at the Kroc Center. And even if you have no business at the Kroc, I think the Ginger Joe is addicting enough that it's worth stopping by here nonetheless. read more

I LOVe this little coffee shop! It's definitely a hidden gem and I'm so glad I've found it! I'm not too far from it so I usually grab something on my way to work or after work. I'm a chai tea person, that's the one drink I always get at any coffee shops because I don't drink coffee. So the first time I came here, I tried their soy chai tea latte and I loved it, just how I like it, not too sweet. I love the fact that they have soy and almond milk as an option. Most places have one or the other. I alternate between those two when I get any drinks there. I've also tried their ice blended green tea matcha and their pre/post workout smoothie, the green machine. I loved the green machine, it has whey protein, kale, chia seeds, banana and I get it with almond milk. I usually get it after my workout and it re-energizes me, love it! I frequent the MBC, love the pour over hot coffees and also appreciate the lack of sorrow in the eyes of the baristas that I've grown accustomed to at other places. Mission Brew is the rare coffee shop that has good coffee, accepts credit cards, smiles at you, and doesn't judge you for procreating and bringing your offspring to the coffee shop. They have great customer service, really good coffee, and a firm understanding and appreciation of the circle of life. You know another thing that I like about Mission Brew? No free dog treats sitting in the window. Why do businesses do this??!!? Keep the dog food away from the human food, please. This is unashamed pandering to dog owners and shows a lack of confidence in the product their selling. It's like the girl that wears a tiara to prom. No darling, we'll decide if your prom queen. My favorite morning stop. It's fast, good coffee. They serve pretty good espresso drinks, lattes and white chocolate mochas and what not, but I almost always get their pour over coffee. They use beans from Cafe Calabria for their "Mission Cup", which is basically single-source freshly ground coffee beans prepared using the pour-over method. It guarantees a great cup of coffee everytime. They have a selection of donuts as well, and if you're going to grab something to eat, you have to try the blueberry buttermilk bars. I have never had anything like it, and it is very good. Lastly, it is in the Kroc center, and you don't always want coffee before or after your workout, so they serve some great smoothies, and also shaved ice. Coffee is great here. I ordered an iced coffee. The barista dude told me that it is cold brewed overnight. They didn't have any toffee nut flavoring but the coffee had such great flavor I didn't care. Location is off the beaten track but it's fun to find local joints that care about making good coffee.
