Came back and brought friends! Came on a Sunday right around 11:30 and it was busy but we were able to find a table right away. I decided to get the houjicha and I like that it comes unsweetened. It was well made and the flavor of the houjicha was strong. My friends got the chai, matcha and the breakfast sandwich and enjoyed them. 4-5 stars. I've been wanting to come here since I heard of their opening through Instagram. It's cool that they opened up in La Mesa, as there's not a whole lots of coffee shops around there. First off, the interior is bright and minimalistic. The color combo of white and red really gives me Coca Cola vibes, esp with the logo font they went with. The mugs they have available remind me of those classic diner style mugs that have a good weight to them. The menu board looked promising and simplistic. If they could...I'd recommend, adding the price the house made syrups cost to the board. In the morning, around 10 am, I came here with friends. My friend ordered an Iced Matcha Latte sweetened with honey. And I had their 12 oz, Iced Dulce de Leche Latte, with whole milk. The price of two drinks came to be just under $14! My friend enjoyed the flavor of his drink saying that it wasn't overly sweetened and he could still taste the matcha. My drink was good as well, the first sip, you could really taste the coffee bean notes and it was amazing. I think I'd ask for half sweet next time. My 12 oz was a little overfilled and there were no napkins at the main bar where they had the drinks. After looking around, I noticed a coffee cart full of napkins, extra sweeteners, straws, etc by the door. A long walk of spillage that could have happened lol~ having a few napkins at the espresso bar drop off section would be handy as well! In the afternoon, before they closed, I ordered 12 oz Iced Latte with Vanilla Syrup. It was $5.75 & tax brought it up to $6.24... Anyways I think that it was a little bit of a surprise personally -- because the board mentioned $5 for 12 oz and didn't say anything about the syrups being .75 cents more. At least for vanilla syrup, I was thinking it was going to be .25-50 cents more minimum. Overall, the coffee shop was really nice and so were the workers. The guy working was very friendly and easy going with conversations~! They not only have espresso based drinks, but matcha, houjicha, parfaits, and breakfast sandwiches as well. According to the menu it seems like most items are under $8 which is pretty good, especially for breakfast items that tend to have outrageous prices at other locations. It's a cute addition to the neighborhood, open at prime hours of the day, I'd recommend swinging on by and checking them out! read more

First off happy to see La Mesa to get a new coffee shop! My partner and I went on their grand opening which they offered free drinks! The line wasnt too bad and moved fairly quickly. Love the vibe of the place. It had a very nice open layout and plenty of tables. They also had wifi. So will definitely consider coming back and working here some day. I got the house hojicha with almond milk. But since I'm a tea junkie I went with the house hojicha which had stronger hojicha flavor with a hint of honey. I appreciated that it wasn't overwhelming sweet. Will definitely come back! Highly recommend! read more

Come Back Coffee is quickly becoming a La Mesa favorite. I do have to mention, though, that I've ordered a hot mocha with oat milk several times and each time it hasn't been hot enough. Most coffee shops serve hot drinks around 150 to 155F, but this one has consistently been warm. I even asked for it extra hot on my last visit and it still wasn't quite there. That said, the flavors are great, and I've also tried some of their iced coffees, which have easily become my favorite. Definitely worth checking out. Just hoping the hot drinks improve in temperature. read more

I do love it when a new coffee shop pops up in town! Come Back Coffee has recently opened on the outskirts of La Mesa, on University Ave. I had an iced matcha latte. The young lady who made it did a great job making it. I added zero sweet to it so the matcha flavor was up front and personal. It was well whisked, and it came out silky and delicious. They offer a variety of espresso based beverages, including breakfast items such as sandwiches and pastries. The place offers a good amount of inside seating and super friendly service. I ordered the matcha latte with their honey cinnamon syrup and the veggie sandwich. The matcha was just okay, it tasted a little watered down to me. My friend ordered a vanilla latte and she really enjoyed it. The veggie sandwich was really good though! One of my friends ordered the ham sandwich and I think I actually liked the veggie one more. The staff are also very nice and were helpful in explaining the difference between the house matcha and regular matcha (the house matcha is basically just their regular matcha but with the honey cinnamon syrup). Stumbled upon this new coffee gem in La Mesa off University Ave and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is very inviting, with plenty of indoor seating and convenient parking. The staff was incredibly friendly--the young ladies working were especially kind and welcoming. I ordered a vanilla and caramel latte with breve (an extra $1), and I believe the syrups are made in-house. The largest iced drink size was 16 oz. The matcha and hojicha was not bad but not particularly good either. I barely tasted the hojicha. Their sandwich was very good, their bread I believe is sour dough. The space is big and open and I honestly love the aesthetic, a really nice place to talk and catch up with a friend. The workers were also nice. read more

This little cafe has a small but mighty menu. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and a vanilla hojicha latte with oat milk. The coffee I really enjoyed, I'm not a matcha person, so the hojicha was perfect for giving that earthy undertone without the grass taste. The breakfast sandwich, however, was to die for, the chimchurri sauce on it really made the other flavors pop, and I don't think they use deli ham slices, the ham on it was flakey and had great flavor. I also tried a strawberry pastry and it was alright, I would recommend sticking to the breakfast sandwich and coffee for the wow factor. I stumbled upon Come Back Coffee since it was close to my Airbnb during a brief weekend trip to SD, and I'm glad I did! I got an iced latte, which tasted perfectly smooth, but it was the breakfast sandwich that was the standout for me with Tillamook cheese and chimichurri. The cafe is so spacious with plenty of tables and seating to chat with friends or get some work done on the laptop. It's still in soft opening for two weeks, but I think they're ready for everyone to stop in. I might have to stay in La Mesa again next time just so I can... come back! read more

New place on University and a nice welcome change from downtown La Mesa. Coffee and service is top-notch. My only lament is that they need window shades as the shop faces the morning sun, it comes in through the glass really hot so it does make it warm and uncomfortable to linger. They had a few pastries and also offer a few breakfast sandwiches which I have yet to sample. I think some artwork on the walls to warm up the vibe is all that's missing. Give them a try. read more

Second time here and just as obsessed as the first time! Joelle and Taylor took care of me today and they were phenomenal-- great conversation and so incredibly kind. Their matcha is unbelievable here, perfectly balanced and their house made sweeteners are delicious and not too sweet. I tried their iced latte today and it was so good! I love that their menu is so simple but covers everything I could want in a coffee shop. The shop itself is beautiful and clean.
