I rarely go into their branches, but when I do sometimes there's a line and the tellers sometimes ignore that there's a line or their tellers are sometimes cold and unfriendly. I've been with Mission for a long time time. I do like how easy it is to come in and get my stuff done. They don't offer coffee anymore but I'm assuming because of covid. Last time I came in, there were so many people in line and not enough tellers, only 2. You need to hire more people. Other than that, good bank. read more

While I am fairly happy With Mission Federal I agree with several others that many of their polices are outdated. To name a couple having two come into the branch to sign for a credit card that took you thirty minutes to do on line when you already have two accounts at the branch. It is the only credit card that was not mailed to me. This is after I was solicited my them. I have better things to do with my time than run to the branch. Also change of address have to go to the branch, add my wife on my checking account have to go to the branch when she is already on a car loan and saving account. This is a review from a customer of 2 years. Overall I have no problems with Mission Feds offers, credit cards rates, loan offers and basic banking options. However their customer service is spotty. Perhaps I've just gotten a few rotten apples. 2 times I have walked into the bank and have seen customer reps making inappropriate gestures and faces toward their customers (scoffs, rolling of the eyes). I personally walked up to the counter last week only to have the teller next to me begin laughing uncontrollably. As i walked away they both referenced me so I know for whatever reason they were laughing at me. Very unprofessional. And very uncomfortable. All of these instances have occured with their young female employees. Perhaps it's just the area I live in in Oceanside. I will try another branch. However my thoughts are I shouldn't have to go out of my way to find respectful customer service. Perhaps there was a full moon out I don't know lol. They also seem to have regular issues with their ATM. I've encountered two just in 2015 alone and its only April. ___________________________________ UPDATE 5/4/15 : Still haven't heard anything back from Mgmt. UPDATE 6/18/15 : once again the ATM is out of order. (See my pic in photos. Its 7pm, bank closes at 5pm. I wish they could stay open until at least 5:30. It would give me a chance to get to the bank AFTER I get off work. I opened a checking account and deposited personal checks from my clients. They put a hold on them for 10 business days. That's a long time in this day and age when checks clear almost immediately. I have more checks to deposit and I'm afraid to put them in the ATM because I need the money in this lifetime. The people have been fine but their policies are kind of outdated. read more

The feeling that they will take care of you is nothing close. It boggles me how a representative will reach out to assist on a posting I wrote- stating she will help but haven't heard from her since. I don't know how long it's been since any help was given by Mission Fed. There's countless times I walked in to the bank to correct the accounts but no response from anyone. All I get is : we will let you know once we get further details and look into the issues. I'm over it.. I wouldn't waste my time banking with them. Even got me to open a credit card while I was at it!! Got the best rate and helped me save some money on my car payments! Walked in around 1:00 PM on a Tuesday afternoon. Politely asked the lady at the first window if Mission Fed is a traditional bank, as I'm not familiar what the detailed difference is between a bank and a "credit union". Now, you may be thinking the answer to that is a simple yes or no question, which it is. But, I have to remind you--you came to that conclusion because you are a normal, reasonable person, and NOT the bleached blonde, old hag working at the Douglas and Mission branch. This bleached blonde, old hag working the front counter, whose name slipped my mind unfortunately, decided to look at me which an extremely exaggerated, "Are you retarded..?" Look on her face. Then proceeds to stare blankly at me with her dead, soulless eyes, and her mouth dropped open for about five seconds. But, let me tell you, people, when those beady, lifeless glass eyes stare at you, seconds feel like minutes. I survived luckily. She then, all but rolls those empty eyes of hers at me, and rudely replies, "Umm. Yeah. We...are a bank..." I was kind of like WTF at this point, but for the sake of time efficiency, I said, "Okay, can I open an account?" No response. Then, she musters enough strength to murmur out, "We are busy today, but I'll see what I can do." Please, lady. Don't do me any favors. I replied by opening the front door and walking out. Zero stars for hiring such an empty shell that now only resembles a human. One that clearly hasn't had contact with its soul in years. read more

Honestly after this i will be looking for a different bank.. they reversed my Tax return because the check was named to myself and my husband and my husband is not on my account.. ok reasonable except that they accepted my tax return last year with the same name! Also allowed all the stimulus and child credits to go through, all named jointly.. So this year when i noticed the tax return being reversed, i called the customer service and the rep said that someone must have missed it last year and didnt flag the check.. so what i hear is, they pick and choose when they allow checks to be direct deposited. This wouldn't be an issue had i known this, but thanks to Mission federal and their inconsistent follow through of policies, i will be unable to pay my rental deposit on time, causing myself and my son to be homeless. I let the rep know this, is there anything they can do to help as i was counting on this money to be available to me, since they approved it once already.. the answer was no. And no help availabl. when i asked to file a grievance, the rep kindly informed me that she will file it but no one will call me back or do anything to rectify the issue.. truly i am very disappointed in the branch and now will consider moving to the bigger bank hopefully they have better customer service. read more

So my girlfriend Banks here with Mission Federal Credit Union she had an emergency and she is out of state in Florida I come to the bank pull up walk up to the door and it's 5:01 p.m. the doors are locked and the security guard opens the door I explain to him that it's sort of an emergency all I have $400 cash and an account number all I have to do is deposit it so my girlfriend can have her money in another state the security guard completely understands my situation and realizes that it's a quick simple transaction he asked the teller lady she told him "NO" This is why I bank at the San Diego County Credit Union you have excellent customer service and they are very understanding and professional and they work with the community for being 60 seconds late I have to find another way to send money to my girlfriend in another state how can a business like this act so unprofessional and not help their own member I personally would never be at this establishment I am also going to try to convince my girlfriend to in her account with this establishment as well read more

I was a customer with Bank of America for over 20 years. I've had them bounce checks on my account for other people's accounts, I've had them enter a deposit for $500 as $.05 and then argue with me that people depost $.05 all the time so it wouldn't have looked odd to them when they entered it in that way. Ugh....20 years. I put up with stuff like that and horrible service out of convenience. Finally after another problem, I decided I couldn't justify it any longer and switched to Mission Fed. Great decision. The people here are FANTASTIC. Such nice people that are very helpful. All of the conveniences I thought I couldn't get with a smaller bank that kept me with a big bank, Mission Fed has and MORE. I had someone steal my debit card information and try to buy stationary in Dubai and Mission Fed stopped transactions immediately and called me. I was able to go into the branch the next day and get a new card without having to try and go 2 weeks without access to the ATM etc. Would Bank of America have done that? No...and I know this from past experience. Ugh. Anyway...love this bank now and very happy I made the switch! read more

My husband and I opened a checking and savings account here last week and was approved for there master card platinum card. We have been wanting to join a credit union for a while now. We just didn't know which one. Got an offer in the mail to apply for the credit card so i did and got an email in a couple of days saying I was approved and to make an appointment. This bank compared to other BIG banks was so different. Very hands on and great communication. Toni was the bank representative that helped us , she was very nice and thorough. She was very informative and helpful with information about our credit score and answered all our financial questions. The whole experience was great 5 star service. We are happy that we have chose MFCU as one of our banks. read more

WARNING- Branch is unprofessional I have had terrible experiences at the Oceanside branch, the staff rarely seems competent to handle any of my banking needs. And some of the tellers are just plain rude. When there is a good teller they seem to leave. I have lived in Oceanside my whole life and often opt to go out of my way to make it to Vista or Carlsbad. Update June 2014: just when I thought MFCU couldn't get any worse, it did. They declined to reverse overdraft fees for fraudulent activity on my Visa debit. Phone consultant was completely sarcastic. Unbelievable. If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been a customer for over twenty years. For some reason, in the last 5 years, customer service has seriously gone downhill at MFCU. First, they offer me overdraft. I used it and came to rely on it "just in case". Then one month I bounce a check. Why? They out of the blue cancelled it and never told me. Then I night drop a deposit into a little used account that I kept for an occasional joint check I get with a family member. I get the check back in the mail. They closed the account and never told me. Last October I night dropped a deposit. The sign says deposits are done that same business day if it's dropped during business hours. The check never got deposited and it caused several checks to bounce that night. Today I learned that they placed a hold on my deposit last Wednesday. The same deposit I make every single month for years now. I've never had funds held before. Long story short. it's because I have a history of bounced checks (yes, they mean the bounced checks from last October). The funds will release sometime next week. In the meantime I will likely bounce several other checks because NO ONE TOLD ME. all books down to one issue: no/ineffective communication with customers. I'm done with MFCU. read more

I've been a member for about 18 years. Over the last several years their customer service has been really horrible. I'm always treated as though I'm a complete stranger even though the same people see me come in every month. Their technology is laughable. Their ATMs are horrible. You put in your PIN, go through all of the choices for your transaction, then after all of that it says your PIN is wrong and cancels the transaction. Really? When you go in person, they don't swipe your card, they enter the number of your card by hand. Really? Then, they ask all of these questions like you're a criminal, even though they have a photo of you right there on their computer screen. I had a check that was made out to my daughter, who has an account and MFCU, but not the same account as mine. I had her endorse it, then I endorsed it and deposited it in the ATM. I just got a letter saying that it was rejected because it's a third party check!! Really?? Great customer service. Now I have to go back, with my daughter, and pay a dollar penalty to deposit the check. Really? And then, to top it off, they moved this branch from a mellow location with decent parking and traffic to a location in the center of Hell with no parking and crazy traffic. The old location was 10 times better and it's as if they researched where the most undesirable location would be, then put it there. I've also been given a crappy auto loan rate that another credit union, that didn't even know me, was able to beat. Really? What's the use of being a loyal customer for 18 years when they can't do any better than complete strangers?? I'm seriously thinking of moving my accounts.
