Most locals complain of long waits which we experienced about a year ago. 2 nights ago we waited and waited and remained optimistic. We understand that restaurants need to give priority to take-out. But our appetizers came with the entrees after 65 minutes. Astonishingly, all food was lukewarm. The manager swore the meals came out immediately when ready. Middlebury has only a few choices but this one is now permanently off our list. Mister Up's is still upside down. read more

We have always liked Mr. Up's. Yesterday we had a family lunch there for nearly 30 people, and the event was all we hoped it would be. Everything about it was great--the planning leading up to it, the service, and the food. We had a private area on their covered and heated patio looking over Otter Creek. Disappointed I've been going to Mr. Ups since the 90's I remember sharing birthdays and graduations at this place. I am not sure what has changed in the 21st century but it certainly has turned this place around in the worst ways. A recent visit had me wondering when the last cleaning occurred in the dining room. I am often nervous about a restaurant's kitchen when I see a less than ideally clean dining room. The service on this visit was less than mediocre and the salad bar looked a bit less fresh than it should be. My food arrived and as hungry as I was and given the length of time it took, I ate it with disgust. They have a good salad bar and the simple fare on the menu is tasty. The more complicated items on their menu can be good or a flop. The real reason to go to this restaurant is to sit outside on their deck overlooking Otter Creek. There is nothing organc on their menu, but they do have a grass fed buffalo burger. They are gay friendly. The staff is nice but could be more attentive. Note: Because of the ongoing construction of the Middlebury bypass bridge, it may be difficult to park and noisy while eating in 2010. read more

Nice bar that serves good pub food. Several dining areas plus a bar and a covered outdoor deck along the river. American menu plus not a bad looking salad bar which I did not try. Had the Bison burger which was cooked as ordered, a very nice medium rare. French fries were excellent, and freshly made. Service was excellent at lunch time but it was not very busy. read more

I've been here several times. It's consistent. It's friendly. The draft selection is more than enough to be worth the trip. The food is standard pub fare. The cheeseburger was exactly as I ordered it. If you're expecting high end go to the very nice place up the road. That's not a dig. This place is exactly what you see. This was the first time I had ever been to Mister Ups - went there on the suggestion of one of the people I was hanging out with. We only went there for a last beer before hitting the road to our respective hometowns; unfortunately I won't ever have anything to say about the food as I am *never* going back. It was fine and everything at first, plenty of bar to spare. As we settled in to watch some of the football on TV, my observing friend noticed that the big HD was paused on a scene from a movie - he asked why, more to make small talk with the barkeep then anything - the woman replied that "it was paused for a group that was coming to watch the film," whatever it was. Long story short, some people started filtering in, and the "movie" started playing - little did we realize it was an entire wedding party that had elected to hold their reception at the bar, and the movie was a montage of highlights for this couple. The icing on the cake for me was when I got up from my seat, an older couple gave my party a look implying that we were in their way, and to get a move-on pronto. Now I'm all for celebrating something wonderful like a marriage (and my congratulations to the couple if they happen to see this), but I'm extremely disappointed that the bar staff didn't have the foresight or the consideration to even mention that within 15 minutes of our arrival that two busloads of people were going to show up and expect the bar to become their private reception hall. read more

The outdoor seating is excellent. Stick to the burger and pizza menu, get a beer and you won't be disappointed. Sit inside and order some "dinner" and you will. We go to Mister Ups often and really like it! read more

Beer, atmosphere, and service were OK but the food could have been better. We ordered a Thai peanut chicken wrap and nothing about it tasted Thai. It was basically a regular chicken wrap with a bit of peanut spread and melted cheese, which was odd. We also ordered the stuffed mushrooms which were better but not amazing. read more

11/3/17 Dinner hour 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm..Excellant service..No waiting for drinks while deciding on meal..Waitress ( Jess, a very personable lady) was very attentive but patient with our taking our time to scan the menu before making a final decision..Once decision was made, meal was presented within 20 minutes giving us ample time to finish our appetizer..Meal was a five star dinner for three, sea food platter of breaded fresh shrimp and breaded fresh haddock with a choice of side vegetable or potato,.blackened steak with same choices of side..Highly reccomend and will go back again for sure.. read more

Up's is one of the cheaper off campus options in Middlebury, and you get what you pay for. Pretty subpar food that you could get at any Applebees in the nation. Seriously just go to Two Brothers instead. read more

I ordered the fajitas. I know vermont is 90% white people. But come on. Cheese lettuce and tomatos for fajitas? When my plate came it was a very small 2x3 in. Piece of steak cut into 6 tiny pieces and a whole lot of peppers in a half inch thick of oil. Yummy. My boyfriend got chicken parm. The marinera was sour the noodles were still frozen, and the chicken was a tad bit burned. Never going here again. read more

The food is good enough. It's pretty standard. The atmosphere is nice. The deck is especially nice. I do like the salad bar and the service is pretty good. It's a solid choice for a place to eat. The only odd thing is that the town built a bridge over the place. It almost feels like there should be a "Live Nude Girls" sign hanging over the restaurant because of the bridge. read more

Used to have a great deck but the bridge they are constructing messes with the view, the ambiance, and generates noise & dust. The food is ok, the location is convenient, and the prices are reasonable. If you sit on the deck facing up river, the bridge isn't visible. read more

Mr. Ups is where my husband took me on our first date, 5 years ago. We had a great time, menu was huge, so much to choose from, food was excellent. We went back not too long ago, and were surprised that the menu was very scaled down, not much to choose from for dinner. I ended up ordering the chicken quesadillas, which came out barely lukewarm. You say your sports bar is wheelchair accessible, but there are exactly ZERO televisions in the tiny little alcove you call your accessible area... kinda an important feature to have when one goes to a SPORTS BAR. Ergo, you are NOT wheelchair accessible, you wheelchair disdain. Shame on you for not having even ONE television in the area where wheelchair users can access. Thanks for nothing tonight, but that's what you are so be it, but it is NOT acceptable for your rude staff member who acted like we were asking for free money when we questioned where we could watch our game that was accessible to a wheelchair. 'Can't they watch from up there' is not an acceptable question (and no, no they can't). Sorry people in wheelchairs freak you out so much. So so so very happy we took our business down the street to Two Brothers... they bend over backwards to accommodate us... you could take a lesson or three. Went there for lunch the other day not having been there since the bridge was completed. I got an open faced seafood sandwich which was mediocre at best. Service was about the same....indifferent. Clearly they don't make any effort to train their staff. If you want an outstanding lunch go to Costello's and eat in your car if you have to. read more

The food was shockingly bad. I had the fajitas and received 4 prices of shrimp in the pan. Absolutely no seasoning. The tortillas were cold and the toppings felt straight from the grocery store. The only plus side is I'm currently on a diet and the food was so unappetizing I barely touched it. My friends expressed similar sentiments. I really enjoy sitting outside during the summer as you can enjoy the view of the river while you eat. I've got two toddlers and they enjoy eating here too. The staff is always friendly and helpful, especially with the kids and getting us their food fast. The food is reasonably priced and there's a decent beer selection. Overall, one of my go-to's when it comes to eating dinner in Middlebury. read more

My husband's a Midd grad so we went for a visit over the summer, so it wasn't a crazy college bar, which was fine for us. We ate on the deck, watching the river go by and hearing the cars going over the new bridge, all was good. We had long island ice teas, salad bar, BBQ burger and the scampi, only thing that wasn't great was the scampi, too bland. Our experience was truly awful at this restaurant. We ordered take out and the prices on the web site were not the prices we were charged at pick up. They were lower on their site and said that they were updating it and that's why we were being charged more. On top of that, they got the order wrong. I called and asked to speak to the manager. I told her about what happened and she said that I could come back and they'd give me what I ordered. I wasn't able to. Instead of doing the right thing and telling me I could get it at any time or she'd have someone deliver it, her response was "sorry". That's it. Not what I expect from a manager. And the food we did receive was terrible. Don't waste your time going there with tons of other places to choose from in Middlebury. A total and complete disappointment in every way. read more

The only reason I'm giving Mr. Ups 3 stars is because of their deck - it really is their saving grace. The food is pretty average (if that) and the service is generally terrible. This past spring I made a reservation for my birthday (which also happened to be graduation weekend) to sit on the deck. The original date I wanted they had the deck closed for a private party, so we choose another date. Unfortunately whomever took the reservation didn't do it correctly and there we were without a table. The salad bar has really gone downhill was well - but the Mud Pie is delicious so go have a drink and Mud Pie on the deck. read more

I frequented Mister Ups as a student in the 70's and have been there numerous times since, always with satisfactory results until this last visit. We were dropping our daughter off for college and went here for our "last supper". We were very disappointed. Service was incredibly slow, they got our order wrong. When they corrected it they did comp us for that entree since it came at least 20 minutes after the other entrees. So that was the one right thing they did. But then they charged us for a drink on the bill that we didn't have so they still got it wrong. A glass of Pino Grigio that was ordered was undrinkable - bad. Quality of food was OK but not up to the old standards. Waitress apologized and said they were very busy - yet half of the tables were empty - now I know why. Mister ups has great drink specials. I would definitely go on thursdays for long island ice teas. Best deal in the area. The food is pretty good too, the "Thumbs and Toes" chicken strips are legendary! I prefer the sweet and sassy sauce but they have several options. Also the Mud Pie dessert is a must. read more
