Wow! What a great experience! I don't go online and write reviews too often but this time I felt compelled to share about our experience. I had a group of 12 ladies that wanted to do some wine tasting for my sister's birthday. We wanted something nice and not too pricey. I went on the website a week ago and I saw that reservations were recommended so I made a reservation for Sunday afternoon. Upon arriving our table had a cute "Reserved for..." sign. The winery itself is rustic, welcoming with a nice patio outside. They also have a few games to play but we didnt play any of them. I have to say what made our experience was Suzanne! She was so friendly, funny and really made the whole group (and especially the birthday girl) feel EXTRA special! We all bought some bottles and will definitely be back. BEST PLACE IN LIVERMORE!!! This is my wife and I 's go to place. THE WINES ARE AMAZING!!!!! Everyone is friendly behind the counter. Suzanne ,LOVE HER, she's always happy to see you enter and makes you feel at home. FAT BOY is the one to buy! The best cab in all the land!!! All I'm saying. The Sangiovese is on hit, the Chard, the Bubbly, the J Katz blend, even the Merlot is crazy good. They can't miss. They are more on the sweeter side of wines so if you like that dry (BORING) taste you won't like this place too much. If you don't like any of the wines here at all then you should quit drinking wine FOR REALS. I'm just keepin' it real folks. read more

This is a low key, very relaxing winery. Although they do not have vines directly attached to the tasting room and picnic area, the tasting room is very cute with indoor and outdoor seating. All of the wines are good, some are excellent. And that is hard for me to say, that I enjoyed all of their wines. The tasting fee is very minimal $10-15 and you get a refund if you buy at least $40 of wine. A great place to bring a couple of girlfriends or go with a few couples. I would recommend bringing some cheese and olives with you to enjoy with your friends. They have nice crackers there that they give out complimentary. There are so many great wineries in this area, and I guess competition is stiff. Would have given them 4 stars had we been in VA or NY or any arguably 2nd tier wine region. But their wines do not stand out compared to say Lone dove, Wentz, Fenestra, Bonaventure or others in my opinion. Pourer did not seem interested in sharing the history or further information on the wines. They also do not have rest rooms, only port a potty. They do have giant wine glasses for sale though. Overall I might skip this one. read more

Hands-down the best winery in Livermore. I put there Chardonnay up against any other winery in Livermore. Not to mention their cab and Zinfandel is off the chain. Plus the price is right. Club member for life. read more

Went here the other weekend with some friends. I loved the cute outdoor seating and patio area. (Very instagram-able) This is a very low-key and casual winery, which is right up my alley. Sammy helped us and was very knowledgeable and friendly! We tried the Fatboy wine, which I thought was pretty good. I also ate my fair share of cheese and crackers! A stop at Mitchell-Katz is a must on your wine trail adventure in Livermore. We were first attracted to their tasting room after falling in love with their 2011 Chardonnay that we'd frequently purchase from Safeway (great price too!). They are in the process of moving permanently to a new location pretty soon but were still well equipped at their current spot. Their 2012 Chardonnay was EVEN better than 2011 and the wine maker was kind enough to get us a taste of the 2013 (not yet being offered). He's making some great stuff. Ironically, we didn't take any home but instead left with their Merlot and Petite Sirah - both of which were the best reds we tasted the entire day. I'm expecting some big things to come from MK. Keep them on your radar! read more

The wines at Mitchell Katz I felt was a hit or miss so a few of the tastings ended up in the bucket. The ones we did like out of the offerings were the zinfandel and the petit syrah from the neutral barrel. The barrel cab was still on the young side so may be good as it ages a bit but right now, too tart for my taste. read more

We became members today! Our very first visit and loved the atmosphere. Loved the outdoors area, love music and food truck. Staff despite it getting very busy tried their best to service everyone. The new location was beautiful! My friend and I did not have a reservation but she took us outside and sat us right next to the vineyard. She (because I can't remember her name), was attentive and answered all of our questions. I haven't even got to the wine part yet....loved them all! My friend and I ended up splitting a case, but we had a hard time deciding what we wanted. Overall a 5-star experience although I did not have time to checkout the tasting room. Came here after a full day of wine tasting, and decided to join the membership. I must have already been hammered because when I tasted the wine I took home, it was not anything near as good as what I thought I'd tasted. In addition, the tasting room is always busy, but the staff is consistently rude-they tend to look past you as you wait 20 minutes between each tasting pour. Lastly, I made arrangments for a friend to pick up my wine club shipment since she was in the area. I EVEN got a confirmation that the tasting room manager would be aware and she wouldn't have any issues picking up the wine for me. HOWEVER when she arrived, she said the woman at the counter was really snobby and wouldn't even TRY to be helpful. In addition my name was written down wrong on the shipment, and so the woman gave my friend a hard time saying she didn't believe her because my friend didn't know my name (when MK spelled it wrong). Overall, very disppointed with the quality of wine, the pouring staff AND the club management. Still waiting for a response to my inquiry about how to resolve the wine club pickup (they did NOT give it to her in the end, even though they had her name and said she could pick it up, and she went out of her way to go there). Needless to say I cancelled my membership. There are better, less expensive tasting rooms in Livermore...check out somewhere else. read more

Suzanne was a pleasure and very knowledgeable about their wines. We ended up taking some bottles for our dinner later last Friday evening. Their red wines are no joke, as good as any in the valley. Saturday September 28, 2013 Mitchell Katz Winery was the 2nd stop on my pre-birthday celebration tour with FT. With this stop, I was already gettin' tipsy. Greeted by friendly employees (who's names I did not ask). FT and I each chose five different wines from both the reds and the whites. My favorite was likely a white and his a red. Like I said, at this point, I was already gettin' tipsy. It was here that I think I ate sheep's cheese... and... I didn't hate it. It was also here that I friended a fun group of ladies. Shrug. I'm frankly surprised at the other rave reviews. I know my way around Livermore and wine (in general), and this place was a big long yawn. This winery doesn't grow their own grapes--instead, they buy remnants from other wineries and make wine themselves. I understand the business model--but if this is the route you take to wine, your wine needs to wow. Unfortunately, I didn't really like any of their wines (except their most expensive bottle, of course). The tasting room has little atmosphere, and our server wasn't particularly charismatic or educational. No reason to go back really. Prices were also high ($20 for each tasting? I could be wrong on that, but I know most of the bottles were around $35) read more

Great tasting experience. Wonderful wines. Casual atmosphere. Livermore's best. There are several fun, welcoming and friendly pourers. Especially Carol, Reggie, Maggie and Suzanne. They make going there worthwhile along with the delightful wines. Not sure why a few cranky pourers are there. One of the worst is Niki, she is uninviting and seldom smiles, she does nothing to promote the winery, thankfully she is not there often when I go. Another one to avoid is Terry who is equally nasty and arrogant. But thankfully most of the other staff makes up for the bad ones. So go on Monday or Tuesday when Carol, Reggie, Maggie and Suzanne often work. read more

For years I had gone to wineries and only liked 1 maybe 2 on the tasting list not only did I like option after option here we became members after just one tasting. The Sangiovese is my pick!!!! Loved this winery! We wanted to check out a few Livermore wineries and this one caught our eye. Super cute place with a nice outside area with some chairs and tables, and the inside was adorable as well. Very crowded on a Saturday at 2 but service was still great. The wines were all VERY good.
