This is one of my favorite all time chocolate shops in Cleveland. Their chocolate is absolutely delicious and I have come here a few times and I have never had a bad piece of chocolate. Also the shop owners were extremely kind and helpful, even more so than I have come to expect from Midwesterners. This is my first time posting a review and after my encounter with Jason this evening I felt it was necessary to let people know about my experience. I ignored the rumors by Cleveland Heights locals, but have now seen it for myself. I walked in with my baby and I was looking around for chocolate and was gathering them in my hand and counting the wrapped items. He handed me a small basket and I thanked him and continued shopping. There were many options and I was trying to buy enough chocolate for my friends and family and went back to count the items so I could mix and match my gifts. Jason blurted out in front of a busy store, "The chocolates are melting in your hand!" I nicely waited to purchase my items and I let him know that I was just counting the chocolate. He became very confrontational and snapped back and said the chocolate was melting. There was no need for him to be demeaning and he demanded I buy the chocolate. I walked away from the chocolate on the counter and informed him I would not be coming back as a customer. He then said I was not allowed to come back into his store. As I was walking out he was yelling to his employee that he was most upset because I put his chocolate in the bottom of the stroller. The bottom of the stroller was empty and I only put 3 small boxes of chocolates in there and used the shopping basket for the chocolates wrapped in plastic. I love to support local and if you are also fed up with the horrible customer service from Jason try out these places. These innovative and delectable chocolates have outstanding service that are not served by a bully. A frequent diner at restaurants in the area, I somehow never managed to set foot in this place until just recently. Now, I know everybody in Cleveland grows up eating Malley's and wouldn't stray because of how yummy their chocolate is, but I have to tell ya- give Mitchell's a chance...especially if you want to treat yourself (or somebody else)! I can promise you won't be disappointed. At first glance, it's a high end store with pretty much any truffle/chocolate combination you could possible imagine. Getting to know one of the new owners on my first trip in, he seems extremely passionate about what he does and the products they produce. They make EVERYTHING (except maybe the pretzels?). The orange peels are delicious and not overly sweet, and the dark chocolate covered pretzels were perfect...not to mention they were completely covered in chocolate as they should be- who wants to see a naked pretzel at the end when the rest is bathed in chocolate?! I am a dark chocolate lover, which apparently is their best seller. Win-win for me! Added bonus- if you can't make it to their store, they sell many of their chocolates at Heinen's! read more

First review I've ever left for any business. Have nothing bad to say about the chocolate. The owner yelled at my wife for touching a piece of chocolate.He appeared very frustrated and angry and wasn't able to keep cool. I'm a business owner myself and understand the frustrations that happens when dealing with customers. But yelling at customers for innocently touching some chocolate is obnoxious.Again I have nothing bad to say about the product.I truly hope the owner reads this review and tries to manage his temper around customers. A really good atmosphere and amazing chocolate! Owner is very nice and very understanding he is not rude he is very nice. The sign clearly says don't touch the chocolate figures. So it only makes sense she was "yelled" at. We go to Mitchell's a lot and never have we had a bad experience I would recommend this place to everyone. If your in the area this is a must. read more

Still excellent compared with any other chocolates, but missing Mrs. Mitchell's subtlety and delicacy of the chocolate coating and fuller almond flavor and slightly grainier texture of my favorite marzipan. This is the first box I've experienced since new owners took the reins. The candies seem a little bigger & bolder, -- more American than European. Makes sense that the creations reflect personality & spirit of the creator. I'll aim to fully appreciate the new style for its own uniqueness, and not expect it to fit into the old Mitchells' box. And as the new chocolatiers grow in their craft, so will they add nuances to flavor and texture. read more

Beware about what you are being charged. I went in with my kids and ordered a make your own box. As I was handing him my credit card for the $12 he asked if the kids wanted a special treat. I agreed thinking it would be a small foil ball of chocolate or something similar. But they were big chocolates. And then he quickly added in another $7 for those extras. I didn't catch it until the ipad turned around to sign that the total was now $20. Dishonest and cheap business practice. read more

My sister's (who lives out of state) birthday was on a Sunday and on the Tuesday morning prior (about 8:30a) I had ordered chocolates to be delivered to her. I received a call Wednesday from who I assume is the owner around 4:30/5:00p but was not able to answer. I called back and had to leave a message. I did not hear back and called again on Thursday around 12:00p, spoke to the person that called, and confirmed my order. I did not receive an email confirmation of shipping until Monday (after her birthday had passed). On Tuesday, the chocolates had been delivered to my address. I immediately called the company and the woman I spoke to confirmed the shipping address was my sister's out of state address and said they would send out a new order that evening. The next day, I received a call from the owner saying that I needed to send the chocolates out to my sister, or bring them in to be sent out, since I had put down the wrong shipping address; indicating that the mistake was my fault, even though the email confirmation showed otherwise. I told him to not worry with my order since my sister's birthday had already passed and it took so long to get everything straightened out. Overall very unhappy with customer service and lack of communication between employees for a simple order. read more

Before the events of COVID-19, the current owner of the establishment attempted to underpay my close friend a salary of $3.50/hr. My friend who is an aspiring chef, wished to work at Mitchell's to gain experience and develop his skills. They would speak fondly of the company saying "the chocolates are really great!" and walked in with hopes to obtain the secret to making fine chocolates. They then spoke to the owner Jason, and indicated that he was interested in working at Mitchell's. They received a position there soon after. Jason never filled the proper paperwork during the hiring process to the point that they worked at Mitchell's Fine Chocolates but was never officially hired.  This went on for a month.  They became disappointed when he learned his position was mere grunt work doing mostly cleaning dishes with little to no real training.  Their working hours weren't ever officially documented and in fact was told to keep track and document their own hours. Working Mitchell's for a month he received little payment for his time and noticed they'd received less than minimum wage per hour. My friend ended up being let go without rhyme, reason, explanation, warning or even being sat down to talk on how. Jason couldn't even look them in the face when he did it. They had to inform the co-owner, Jason's wife  to force Jason to pay my friend them just minimum wage of 7.25 per hour which he was beyond  upset he had to do. No one working there makes that little and it's not even a liveable wage. People like Jason tarnish the name and integrity of fine chocolate. read more

I have been to France,Greece and other parts of Europe and no one competes with Mitchell's dark chocolate fine chocolates. I started eating their wonderful candy when they were located on Euclid hts Blvd next to the coventry theatre back in the 70's.Mrs.Mitchell was always very knowledgable and informative about chocolate they home made.She always encouraged me to try new pieces.I am solo glad she did. I especially love the hand dipped apricots and cherries. The Turtles and truffles are equally delicious along with everything else dark chocolate in the store. I do agree it is not child friendly - it is not malleys (which is great as well) - but this is not malleys quality. This is "fine chocolate" - crafted in specific conditions and kept in small fresh batches that can be easily degraded by certain elements including a child's hot hands. It is not cheap. It is an adult treat but worth it if you or someone you know appreciates the best and has a sweet tooth. read more

I received a box of assorted dark chocolates as a gift and they were all great. No truffles were in the mix. The assortment was more traditional with a lot of fruit and nut based pieces. Each piece was fresh, flavorful and nicely textured. read more

This is a great little gem on Lee Road. The store manager is extremely personable and the chocolates are absolutely delicious!!! I love that he has a wide variety of options in both milk and dark chocolate. The chocolate covered marshmallows (especially the coffee one) and the peppermint patties are my favorite. New owners here since original retired. We can recall good chocolate choices, reasonably priced back in the early days of this business, at the time store was located on Coventry. Can't same the same now. We were looking for a more organically produced item recently (non GMO sugar, fair trade cocoa, non homogenized milk, etc). You won't find it here. We did purchase a few pieces of both milk and dark, did not find a distinct tasting chocolate, leaving our impression as one of overrated for the high price. For now, Burdick chocolates rule. read more

A friend had recommended going here, I was in the neighbors so gave it a try. Nice people working there, but, I found absolutely nothing special about this place. In fact, the chocolates ( individual pieces) I ordered were pretty much flavorless and not creamy or smooth (as they should be from a "fine chocolate shop"). I am sure they have a loyal following...I will stick with Malleys who are consistently fresh, flavorful and mouth-melting addicting. read more

So disappointed! The Easter selection was so expensive you'd have to be a millionaire to fill your kids Easter basket here. I had a sample of dark almond which were not as good as I've gotten from other local retailers.
