And the rules can be a hassle if you are not planning ahead. It's all entirely true. BUT... Good lord is the meat good. The man knows his trade. His sourcing is top notch, and once you make it inside the store, he is attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable about how to store, prepare, and cook every product he sells. I can only afford it every once in a while, but if I need an absolute slam-dunk for a special occasion, I always hit up Mitch. His manager lady (I'm sorry I don't recall your name!) is incredibly nice and helpful, making suggestions and giving tips. The business has its quirks, and if you don't like the rules or the prices, it's best you go somewhere else. This place is AMAZING! We ordered 2 prime cutes, one ribeye and one NY strip. Oh my they were beautiful, seasoned well with his secret seasoning, and he even gave us beef fat to cook it in which added to the flavor! We seared ours in a cast-iron skillet and use the juice to top the mashed potatoes we made as well as seared broccolini on the side. These two pieces were honestly large and we ended up having leftovers to sear up for dinner another day as well. I will certainly be coming back again for a special occasion dinner! Went to Mitch's again after rediscovering it. We were walk-ins. Only about a 10 minute wait to get in the store. Once we were there, Mitch took his time explaining and showing us everything he has. We walked out with about 10 lbs of fish and meat. Everything so far was delicious. I got a lesson from Mitch on how to prepare the meatballs, and I followed it to the "T" on Sunday. They were DELICIOUS! and clean up was a breeze. I've been a customer since they opened. I love this place and its people. Yes I order ahead - why wouldn't you knowing how the shop's clearly explained service priority works? And unlike a lot of places I have zero worry from Mitch's about the meats and fish being anything but top notch and super fresh. Plus - by ordering ahead Mitch always has what I want - butchered the way I want it. Lots of the businesses I support have "rules" I don't love (like breakfast starting at 8 am vs its real starting time of 6 am) :). But I just work around 'em. One of the great things about owning your own business is you get to figure out how to run it your own way. I know we can't go out to eat, but if you're a steak lover, you can always buy these gorgeous cuts from @mitchs_meats_and_fish I sometimes like to treat myself with a fancy dinner and I'm sure most of you out there do too! The front cut is their Japanese Waygu cut: $69.99/lb The other one is the Australian Wagyu cut: $59.99/lb I can tell you that the price is absolutely worth the taste. It literally melts like butter in your mouth. Believe it or not, it just took me to another world after taking the first bite. Lady of the house was rude, and escorted us out to read the rules, when no one was in the shop. Tried to look at their website to see how to preorder, but it was just the same rules again. Plenty of other places to buy quality meat and have a good customer experience. They should put one of those jewelry store door locks if they don't want people coming in. You want the best, then look no further. His products and knowledge never disappoint. I love his rules of engagement. It's his business, and it runs like a well-oiled machine. Pre-ordering is the way to go once you understand his inventory. Mitch even provides his personal number for "meat emergencies," which i have used in the past. I'd been looking for a butcher shop nearby & went here because of reviews. The shop is in a strip mall & is pretty small inside, like 10 people would crowd this place to capacity. The staff are helpful & friendly but it's a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what you want while they're explaining it all. I only got a few things because I was feeling kinda anxious with all the people in there. We got 2 types of bacon to try(1 lbs total), some kind of wagyu blended burger(1 lbs) and a rack of ribs(2 lbs) for ~$53 This place is way more expensive than anything you'll find at grocery stores but it's supposed to be a higher quality. It looks pretty, at least. They serve lunch until 2p some days, so maybe we'll get to try that another time. They have bowls of candy sitting around but I'm not sure if they're for sale or not. They also sell bread, butter, a tiny amount of dessert, wagyu jerky at $50/lbs. Plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. Hard to determine how much it'll cost before you pay, like some items have the weight written & you can calculate with your phone or in your head & some items have nothing so you guess the weight. I couldn't find the price for scallops anywhere, though, not even on the seafood case. They have seasoning for sale but I didn't want to dawdle so I didn't look through it. Came in on a whim 15 minutes before closing on a Friday. I got lucky that there was only one person in front of me doing a pickup. You probably won't understand why they have the pre-order or reservation system they do until you get in and chat with the folks here. First, it seems like a lot of stuff is going to get cut to order. If you're an enthusiast cook, you'll think you're coming in here for a specific thing and you will browse wanting to leave with more. They also clearly don't want to rush their customers. Come in, chat with them, tell them what you're cooking, and they'll take great care of you. I left with two ribeyes, 3/4 inch thick for a quick cast iron cook. On a whim, with Mitch talking up his salmon, I asked for some cut as sashimi as a treat. Grabbed a pair of thick biscuits and a tub of gravy, and they tossed in some "scooby snack" steak trimmings that became weekend breakfast. Great knowing there's good dry aged beef and some A5 local too. Wonderful local butcher. Excited for my next special occasion cook! read more

Not gonna rip Mitch a new one like many do, but let's just say I'm done trying to buy here. Mitch and his staff are very nice...once you're in the store. But good luck with that. This isn't a place where you can turn to your family on a whim and ask if they "want to do sushi tonight?". Not possible. It is basically only possible to say "want to do sushi in 2 days?" Or wait outside for 3 hours. Tried calling ahead again today one last time b/c the fish is great. No dice. Booked for the holidays. So I went to another fish market down the street for the first time and I'm at home 20 minutes later with fresh fish after a very pleasant experience with the owner. I visited Mitch's Meats & Fish for the first time during the virus scare. They were very careful limiting the number of customers allowed into the store at one time. When I entered the store, Kathy greeted me and gave me a brief tour. She described many of their different products. I was impressed with how neat and clean the store looked. Compared to The Butchers Market down 92 in Woodstock, this store is better organized and much cleaner. After I placed my order, Mitch greeted me at the counter. He was friendly and personable. All of my meat was sealed in plastic wrap and then wrapped again in white butcher paper. I visited this store because I could not find ground beef in any other markets, including Publix, Kroger, Trader Joe's and Target. I think that the product quality is better here, but the prices are definitely higher. read more

You bet your ass someone can, and that person is Mitch, along with his staff. This is my first review since I dropped into Atlanta yesterday, and boy am I glad to give Mitch his 102nd 5-star review! My family decided to Uber here from Buckhead to grab a bite before going for a hike at Stone Mountain. Yes, they are far apart from each other, but I never regretted a moment. I have never tried delicatessen from a butcher's shop before, so I didn't know how fresh everything will be compared to regular delis, and I truly was blown away. The staff were so informative and friendly that you just can't say anything bad about them. They seem to have alot of regulars come through as we watched people walk in and out having small talk with the staff on a first name basis. They are truly a wonderful neighborhood vintage which reminds me of old time movies where neighborhood butcher shops/delis existed. One word of caution is to watch what you order. The sandwiches are gigantic and unless you want to order for lunch and dinner, know how big it is, but Mitch and his staff will tell you that beforehand in case you forget. They let you sample their soup and hot sauces prior to buying as they want your complete satisfaction. We ordered the gigantic wagyu skirt steak sandwich, which is in a class of its own as everyone else pointed out. We also had the seafood chowder which was a delight. Figured I'd stop by today to get a pork butt for the smoker this weekend. No planning ahead I just pulled in and walked in. I was told to go outside and put my name on the list and wait in the car. After waiting over an hour, they had only marked off one of the two names ahead of me on the list. I left. There are a bunch of signs (maybe 6 signs) on the door with rules, including a note saying "respect the way I run my business"- which I felt was a little insulting because as a walk in customer I wasn't fully aware of the commitment on my side (1 hour and counting of waiting). Basically according to the many signs on the door, you're supposed to call ahead days/weeks ahead. But they'll take your name for a walk in though, which is going to take a long time. I was vsiiting my kids in Roswell. Looked up butcher shops and chose Mitch's. I read the rules online and picked up my meat. No issues. However, it was a thouroughly exhausting experience and in my mind completely unnecessary. With all the online high end meat purveyors (I'm an "internet cowboy") there is no reason to purchase meat at Mitch's. In my opinion, the benefit of a local butcher is spotenaety, ease of purchase, camaraderie and sense of community. Mitch's possesses none of these. His meats are good quality. Stopped in cause it looked like a mom and pop local small business. Well it is. I met Mitch & Star. Star asked what I needed and I mentioned just fish. She showed me the fresh fish. Not a lot but what they have is prepped with care. (Perfectly filleted and wrapped to stay fresh). I picked out some Halibut. Mitch offered portion, seasoning, and cooking tips. Look I've been in hospitality for 45 yrs but I listened and watched closely. Remember I just came in for fish. I was immediately impressed with these two. So I asked Mitch for a ribeye which he cut to my exact specifications. Why...cause that's how they do it. Hand cut to order. They don't have cuts laying around in a case all week. Meanwhile Star Showed me around and introduced me to the various exotic products and premade delicacies. So I got some crab cakes, royal reds, and Oreo key lime pie. Well the Halibut was the best I've had since Alaska and the pie is THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD! This place is very popular so if you don't want to wait on the weekends call in your order during the week and pick it up At your leisure. Honestly, was a little unsure given all the signs and less than five star reviews. Once I got in the store, my view totally changed. I've driven past this place for 2 years, but decided today was the day. I was working from home and showed up at noon. We were greeted by a lady who showed us the ropes. Hubs ordered a pastrami and a corned beef sandwich although she warned him that they were huge sandwiches. And they were. That didn't deter him. He's from NYC and put his stamp on the sandwich. He said it was official. He shared some with his aunt, also from NYC and she was in heaven. I ordered one of their 6 homemade soups and it was amazing! The soups are a little pricey (large is $8) but delicious. They offer free large croutons - which I completely crushed. The biggest bonus of all for me is that they sell bone broth. *insert happy dance* They roast the bones and make it over 3 days. I'm never making my own again. If you've ever done it, it's a headache. I ordered a small for $5 and it was wonderful. They are also a butcher shop. This is definitely an adventure of a sandwich. I'm writing to you the day after eating this monstrosity. I'm still full. I haven't eaten breakfast. This is insane. Mitch's is primarily a butcher shop, but they also do sandwiches. They really focus on customer relationships. Mitch even gives you his direct line if you have a meat emergency, and he'll sell it to you out of the back of the store when they're closed. I didn't even know that you could have such an emergency, but now that I know, I might just plan on making that call. Plus it would be really interesting to buy a lamb shank from a trench coat. If you can feast your eyes on one of these bread/meat monsters, you'd probably notice that it takes a grand total of SIX skewers to hold it firmly in place. Not only that, but they package it in a paper bag that is fit for holding groceries. One sandwich, and a pickle that would normally make about 4 spears. Probably closer to a pool noodle. I had the Pastrami and Rye Sandwich. More appropriately, I had ALL the Pastrami. If this sandwich had been any thicker, you'd probably go into cardiac arrest. This was definitely the right amount. It's a lot, but not so much that you get the meat sweats... that is, if you can spread it out over two meals. That brings me to my second meal. I ate the second half of the Pastrami and Rye for dinner. This time, I felt like it went down much easier. Probably because my stomach was stretched to capacity and could easily accommodate another food monster. I can't stress how amazing this place is. Mitch's is so accommodating. Their staff is hilarious, and they really put an amazing sandwich together. You can spend at least 7 minutes looking at all the cool displays they have. I got the Julia sandwich and it's HUGE! It is beyond delicious. Next time I'm going to try the pastrami....that's what my co-worker got. She only let me have one bite Apparently they have different soups when they offer the lunch menu [wednesday-friday 11am to 2pm] and today I had the Cheesy New York Strip soup. There is no way any of these positive reviews are real. To be fair, I never made it inside either. Mitch claims in all his "internet cowboy and GFY" rebuttals that he has all these clients. Yet when I stopped by, he had two clients enter the building over the course of an hour (to which he agrees with on his website and aforementioned "internet cowboy" rebuttals). Mitch claims that he has operated a "successful business" for however many years(one rebuttal said 8 and another said 10) but I watched his rude employee turn down at least four groups while Mitch worked with those two presumed "pre order time slot clients" during the hour I sat waiting. So his business lost four clients while servicing two in that hour. You are right Mitch, most of us don't own butcher shops but even a true "internet cowboy" can see that the math isn't mathing, regardless of what the insane markup of your product must be. If you lose four clients for every two you gain/keep, then you are not running a successful business. The reviews for your business suggest that losing four potential clients per hour is about average for you. All the bad reviews and lost clients are going to catch up to you, Mitch. Fortunately for me and every reviewer alongside me, we won't be around to see it. Please do your worst with your rebuttal, it will almost make it worth the hour I wasted outside your lousy establishment you call a butcher shop. read more
