I cannot say enough good things about this place. Having a dog with cardiac health issues who needs to have special medications on the daily is tough, but Mixlab makes things as easy as possible. Extra points for always adding a cute toy to my dogs order!! One of my dog's prescriptions (the actual paper) needs to be physically delivered to the lab and the medication being a liquid suspension makes things that much harder to prepare, but these angels do everything in their power to make things as easy as possible for me. Avoid doing business with these people if you can. I have an appointment with Bella's oncologist next week and I am going to give him the 411 and suggest they use another pharmacy. Too many issues. The most recent is, they doubled the price of my prescription from the last refill 60 days ago! Originally it was going to be quadruple the price!!!. I complained and they said they no longer had the drug in the form I was receiving it and it would now be in capsule...what kind of justification is that? Such a ripoff. AND...I have been waiting for a week for them to refill the prescription. I have texted, emailed and called them and they keep telling me it's in the system and it will be going out soon and they will text me with a date. Today is Friday and they told me Monday I would receive it by today...no sign of it or text or email to verify that. This is so unacceptable. I inquired about any other cost effective options and got a quote which was still higher per dose than the tablets, then the invoice came and it was now more than double the quote. They confirmed the lower amount was a mistake and the higher one was correct, and offered a one time 20% discount. This was STILL more than double per dose than the overpriced tablets, so I did not make the purchase. Either customer service didn't understand they were offering a higher cost option or thought I wouldn't.] DO A PRICE COMPARISON on your meds! The 2 stars here are for the good customer service and ease of ordering, but that is all. I used them for years due to this ease. But when the price of my ongoing cat meds went up, I did some price comparisons with other pharmacies and wow did I find how overpriced they were for the same meds I could get elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. They clearly mark up the rates knowing they give good customer service so will get returning customers, smart on their part. But who cares about a cat toy/cute box, I want my weekly meds economical. For example, their price started at $3 per pill, then went up to $5, I found the exact same dosage and now pay $1 per pill! Easy online ordering, mailed to me. That's a 5X higher cost, ridiculous. I have wasted so much $$ through them and wish I had been smart to price shop first. Vets/VCA will send you to them, but you don't have to use them. Do your research, there are other online pharmacies that are easy to order from that may likely be much more economical. read more

My pet needed a prescription. The vet let me know I could only get it through MixLab and they didn't have it. It took 48 hours and an email from my vet for them to respond to the prescription which at that point couldn't be filled and delivered for days due to holiday/weekend. If you stay home for the delivery, it effectively can just come any time and isn't something reliably tracked or communicated. read more

UPDATE: My response to Mixlab's feedback to my review. You say you offered to deliver this to the home I was staying in over Thanksgiving, and I declined. YES I declined, as SITTING HOME ALL DAY WHILE ON FAMILY VACATION WAITING FOR A DELIVERY WAS NOT SOMETHING I WANTED TO DO! And, you admit you kept sending out deliveries when I expressly told you I was out of town...how does that make an ounce of sense????????????? ---------------- I ordered liquid painkiller for my pet. Turns out it needed a signature for delivery (something I wasn't told). After the first failed delivery attempt (again, wasn't told I needed to be there) I let them know I was out of town for Thanksgiving, so if they sent someone out again, it would be a totally wasted trip. So, what did they do? Sent the delivery out again. Twice. After I'd clearly let them know I was out of town. Then, because of the three failed delivery attempts, I was told the only way to get the medication was to drive across town and pick it up. (Yep, because of their ineptitude.) Terrible experience. They are extremely unorganized, and it caused a huge amount of unnecessary stress, for both me, and my pet, who had to endure weeks of pain because of the inability to get this prescription. This company has gone WAY downhill, because I've used them in the past with no problem. Never again. read more

I've used Mixlab over the course of almost 4 years, and it has been way more frustrating than it's worth. Their auto-refill system constantly underestimates when to prepare and ship the next order, which has repeatedly forced me to guess when to purchase refills, often leaving me to scramble with their customer support to get a new order filled and express-shipped to my location. Worse yet is that their fulfillment times have taken longer and longer to fill as the years go by --- case in point, I placed an order just this past Friday morning, and it took almost a week later for them to contact me back to say that they (mistakenly!) believe I've run out of refills. This time in particular I've just about had it, as these avoidable delays may now be impacting my cat's upcoming appointment, because their dysfunctional autorefill scheduler and sluggish fulfillment times have just about left me with no medication left now for my pet. If it really counts, and your pet needs medication on a continuous schedule, Mixlab's ineffective service could put your pet in danger. I was referred to Mixlab after our senior dog developed congestive heart failure. Fortunately it's treatable with medication but unfortunately our dog won't take a pill to save her life (literally), which means her meds need to be compounded into liquid form. The cardiologist put in the prescription late Friday and by Saturday afternoon Mixlab had delivered everything in a little box. The cheery packaging complete with a little squeaky toy was such a nice touch when delivering life-saving meds that otherwise are a little scary. They saved my cat's life (after a different compounding pharmacy almost killed him). I was initially referred to MIXLAB through an emergency vet in Studio City, where I had taken my senior cat Roger there for really unusual symptoms (sudden lethargy, lack of eating or drinking, etc.). Conclusion - but that came later - is that the OTHER compounding pharmacy screwed up his topical steroids and he crashed - HARD - because after two years on steroids he wasn't getting what he needed. After a lot of tests and many stressful overnight/over the weekend visits to two different emergency vets (most of this was late last year when vets were hard to come by), they could not figure out an answer and suggested euthanasia. But Roger did not think it was time to go yet and we tried 'one LAST thing'. That was a new prescription for his medication from a different compounding lab - MIXLAB. Long story short - it worked and MIXLAB has been in our lives ever since. Not sure where exactly my cats meds are being shipped from. banfield set it up, mixlab sent me a link, took my money and suggested a delivery date of Friday/today. I was told shipping is free.. shipping label was created, then nothing.. vet called today only to be told that delivery date is not guaranteed and they have till 8 to deliver.. Well lady, its probably not even on a truck, but you didn't bother to check, now did you!!! If you cannot deliver by your own delivery date suggestion, them why are you suggesting it? My great love and internationally celebrated fluffy warrior, Boo Boo, has courageously battled canine lymphoma. While we have the best of care at Veterinary Cancer Group, nothing about the treatment journey has been easy or predictable. Just as Boo Boo defied the odds with nearly 15 years of impeccable health, so to is a resistant lymphoma. Treatment has been an emotionally taxing journey as I'm forever guessing how to best alleviate discomfort and maximize Boo Boo's quality of life. Last week, Boo Boo was admitted to the ER and treated for pleural effusion after his first round of Tanovea. There was something going on in the days prior to treatment, so it's unclear whether the particular medication contributed or any medication would've resulted in the same overwhelm. Not only was it Boo Boo's first night away from home and/or Mama in his entire life, but also his first time in a cage. As you can imagine, the stress of the environment was almost as debilitating as the condition. I waited in the ER parking lot all day in order that I could pick up Boo Boo the minute he was released. The next day Boo Boo's oncologist checked in. I reported that he had relaxed but wasn't eating and therefore, I couldn't administer anti-nausea medications. She knew of a compounding pharmacy to order Cerenia and Zofran. VCG is located an hour from my house, which I dreaded having to drive yet again. Not only the time spent but because putting Boo Boo in the car, as he now associates it with stressful outings, but I had no alternative. Imagine my joy when the pharmacy called to ask what flavor Boo Boo would prefer. The lady who called listed 5 or 6 flavor options. Anything that might make medication more palatable Boo is appreciated. After selecting the beef flavor, she inquired about when I'd like the medication delivered. I stated, "As soon as possible," to which she replied, "Does tonight work?" Yes! As my credit card number was taken down, she noted that delivery was free. Not only would my baby have drugs on board that night but he wouldn't be unnecessarily stressed out from a drive. I was so grateful. The chic packaging was not only Instagram worthy, but functional with heat sensitive medication cushioned in an ice pack. Fastened to each vial were a pair of syringes, each marked at the appropriate dosage line. Also included were comprehensive instructions and even a sweet Christmas squeaky toy. At that time, Boo Boo was on 6 medications and I was exhausted. I posted the instructions on my wall as an additional check after reading the bottle when preparing Boo Boo's medications. The two prescriptions (14mL each) cost approximately $130. As it turns out, the pharmacy is closer to my house on the westside than it is to the valley VCG. If I had to pick up the medications, it wouldn't have been as difficult as I initially expected. My experience with Mixlab has been positive. My very young cat (kitten, really) needed a tiny dose of atenolol and they produced it as a small pill she accepted. When her dosage went up a bit, we discussed flavoring the pill and I was given a choice of flavors. I see some people saying prices are high, and they are. Sadly, though, no one makes atenolol at the low dosage my cat needs, much less in a tiny flavored pill. Mixlab does. So unless you can do the magic of appropriately splitting a pill into sixths or something, you need a custom-made product. I DO wish they would ship in less plastic--a box instead of a bubble envelope and the option to have the pills in an envelope instead of a plastic bottle with a way-too childproof cap. read more
