As a former server myself, I am very aware of these things. It appeared that there was some down time to check on a simple 2-top as she was walking up and down scanning the tables. I can say that this is not reflective of the previous times I've dined here as the service has always been very pleasant, and the food never disappoints. For minimum $20 per entree, you would expect the servers to check-in on how the table finds their food and whether or not there is something they can provide to make it better.

Fifteen minutes go by and not a single staff person has come to the table, left water, asked if we wanted something to drink, or take our order. I stand to see over the frosted-glass partition and see a couple of staff members(in black shirts) talking to a non-customer who had walked in with 2 large dogs, as if they were chatting in someone's garage, not in a working restaurant. I tell the staff member with dirty hair tucked under a baseball cap that we are ready to order, and he says "Your server isn't here{where is she, because there is only 1 other table?}, but I will take your order." We give him the order, he puts it in to the kitchen, then he returns to talking to the other staff member and non-customer with 2 large dogs. I go to the restroom and now the staff members, the non-customer, his dogs, and their leashes are blocking the path to the restroom, so while I am waiting for them to clear the path, one of the dogs approaches me and starts smelling my crotch, which I didn't ask for, nor was willing to tolerate in a restaurant. On my return to the table, I now see that someone has placed dog biscuits on the floor and the dogs are eating and the dog biscuits off the floor of the restaurant!!! Disgusting!!! I now return to the table and, shortly after, the actual waitress makes an appearance with our food, but the breakfast sandwich my daughter ordered was so tall, it could not have possibly been eaten hand-held, and the butter knife included in the cutlery set would not have been able to penetrate that thickness. So, now my daughter has to stand and go through the phalanx of dogs to ask for a sharper knife so she can cut her sandwich in half. It was as if serving the paying customers was an interruption and inconvenience to socializing with the dog owner. Not a good look for any business, but the fact that non-service animal dogs were in the interior of a restaurant is a violation of California food code and common consideration. As for ambiance, they had loud dance music playing on the sound system, as if it were a nightclub on a Saturday night, not a brunch place on a mellow Sunday afternoon. To add insult to injury, the bill tacked on a mysterious yet mandatory 5.25% "hospitality fee" after sales tax. Where was the hospitality to earn that 5.25%? Out of objection, I deducted that 5.25% fee from the already-low tip that I left as a statement for the horrible service. Restaurant management needs to decide if they want to run a business that is in compliance with health codes, or a social club for their employees and local dog-owning non-customers.
