Design Your Own Salad (with incorrect and missing ingredients)
    Matt J.

I am so disappointed in MIXT today. Where to even begin? 1) I ordered my "Design Your Own Salad" with caramelized fennel, but instead they gave me caramelized onion (top left of the container). This is an honest mistake, but after I checked my salad outside and went back in to request the proper ingredient, they first denied the mistake, then charged me for the replacement (the small container on the left). It wasn't even worth the bother of trying to get it for free at this point. I've gotten salads there dozens of times and surely the folks there recognize me, so their insistence on charging me for something I'd already purchased was extra frustrating. 2) Brussels Sprouts were also part of my order. Do you see any? Neither do I, other than a few measly pieces dead center. Shrinkflation at its finest. 3) I'm dismayed that they are now using curly kale instead of baby kale. It is poorly prepared in that the stocks aren't removed so each bite comes with an obtrusive flavorless crunch that gets in the way of the flavor. 4) This comment is very much personal preference, but I strongly believe they should roast the squash in bigger pieces. Right now, the miniature size means the flavor is diffuse and there is never a satisfying critical mass of squash. Just a friendly suggestion. But all of these prep issues wouldn't matter if it weren't for the rudeness of the staff. I love MIXT salads but found the service to be very upsetting. They took no accountability and were collectively scornful. Two stars because the caramelized fennel is actually really good.

MUST try salad place in town! The quality and taste of their salad is exceptional given it's a fast casual chain restaurant. We came to visit from LA and have pretty high standards of salad. In my opinion, MIXT is better than Sweetgreen hands on. The salad feels more fulfilling and has more generous protein portion. They also offer crispy chicken as a protein to go with many salads which is pretty unique and neat. We ordered: - Peachy: Seasonal salad with crispy chicken, peaches, grilled corn, cornbread crumble, pickled red onion and carrots. Tossed with sriracha ranch dressing and maple bbq drizzle. It is one of the most tastiest dressing I have ever had and HIGHLY recommend everyone to give a try. - Crispy cauliflower as a side: The flavor is again fantastic and has that same amazing sriracha ranch dressing on the side. Apparently you can customize your own salad but we didn't bother to try. They have a few stores in LA too and I would definitely come back to MIXT!

    DAVE'S TACO BOWL

Dave's taco bowl is always a huge hit for me. I went right at 11:00am when they just opened and they filled my bowl up! The food was fresh and delicious! I've gone later in the day and my bowl was only half filled so I highly recommend coming earlier in the day. The service was great, very clean inside as well.

At first glance, I was a bit skeptical. My pet peeve with salads is not having enough sauce, and there was just one little container for a deceptively deep bowl of greens. The amount of chicken also seemed lackluster for the price ($19 with tax). But I judged too quickly. As I took a bite, and then another, it was hard to stop. I quickly dug into the salad, savoring the deep and varied and textures and flavor profile. It was so good. Romaine hearts, kale, crispy chicken, cabbage, oranges, spiced candied almonds, snow peas, jicama, spicy sesame seeds, fresh herbs, miso ginger vinaigrette... delicious. Do I still wish it had more sauce? Yes. Do I still wish it came with more chicken? Yes. But would I get it again? Also yes.

Very clean and plenty of table seating available along the window, plus 3 spacious booths and outdoor seating. Orchard, Bachelor, and Harvest are my go-to salads here. I got $12 off my first order today for downloading their app. Convenient location near shopping and cafes. Pricier than Sweetgreen though, so Mixt isn't my first pick of salad shops. Complimentary cucumber water. One clean single-stall unisex bathroom. Friendly staff.

We walked over after finishing a rumble class , which I highly recommend if your tired of the normal gym routine and wanna try something new ! I got the grain bowl with "right rice " which is a protein rich rice made from vegetables . I also added sweet potato , roasted cauliflower , sharp cheddar , grilled onion ,cherry tomatoes , and kale . I got a balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil dressing on the side . My grain bowl was super tasty and I really enjoyed it . I also tried some of the elote bowl with crispy chicken . It was a little on the heavier side, very tasty too though . Great place for a healthy meal !

We were the first table in when they opened, but unfortunately the service felt a bit cold from the start. Our server seemed disengaged, which set a less welcoming tone for the meal. The food was just okay for us. Our kids enjoyed their spring rolls and "chicken" nuggets, which were an easy win. However, the entrees we ordered were quite salty and didn't have much depth of flavor. Afterwards, we realized they don't use garlic or onion, which would have been helpful to know ahead of time since it really affects the flavor profile. If we had known that, we likely would have chosen a different spot. Overall, it wasn't quite what we were expecting given the menu and reviews. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't stand out for us in a city with so many great food options.

Lucky Creation hosted in the heart of SF Chinatown is a long time favorite of locals and visitors for their vegetarian and meat alternative dishes. There's not much parking in this part of town so be prepared to try to squeeze into street parking or park further away and walk. Otherwise, public transportation is always an option! For us, we typically just drop one of us off and circle the block while they grab the goodies. Their selection of wheat gluten dishes have flavor and texture profiles reflecting popular meat dishes like sweet and sour, curry, and BBQ pork. Each bite has a chewy and spongy texture which seems to soak up the sauces packing bursts of flavors. Eaten cold is our favorite method but I'd imagine heating it up is also just as good. Every time we come, sweet and sour and the BBQ pork are the flavors we go home with. Most patrons buy takeout but they also have a few small tables for dine in. The place is relatively clean and open, illuminated by the bright fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling and accented by the giant mirror along the wall. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. If it's your first time, consider perusing but also just ask directly. They may have some recommendations for your craving. Overall, Lucky Creation packs classic Chinese flavors into vegetarian dishes for those with dietary restrictions or those looking to minimize meat in their meals. The quality of dishes are just as good as I remember from when I was a kid although the prices like for all things have gone up. If you're lucky enough to have plans to go into the city, consider making your way to Lucky Creation and grab a variety box to open your eyes to a meat-less diet!

Bought my tix online and waited for the day to arrive. I included the offspring and +1 for the event. Got there early and found parking basically in front, a miracle in SF. Doors opened at 5:02 and we were greeted by the chef and staff all dressed in green like the Jolly Giant of commercial fame. The tables were decorated with flowers sprouting from funny shaped radish and turnip "pots". Did I mention that the dinners have been called whimsical......... So it begins. We got two juice pairings and two alcohol pairings and both were really interesting. The local Chardonnay on lees and the martini were winners in the alcohol category whereas celery ginger kombucha and citrus drink were rulers of the nonalcoholic category. Some refills were provided, yeah! First course - Miso celeriac soup with foraged herbs, walnut dill bread with kumquat jelly and chive butter. Rich and tasty soup with great bread though two smaller pieces would have been better than one large to enjoy the spreads. Second course - Lacto-fermented beets, roasted carrot, little jellies with spicy carrot salad and hummus. Everything was unique with interesting flavors and consistencies. Loved the little jellies made with agar and the carrot salad, Wow! Third course - Mushroom and beet pub pie over purple cauliflower béchamel. Amazingly flaky vegan puff pastry, don't know how they did that without butter. Filling was earthy and savory complemented well by the béchamel. Dessert - a selection of citrus based seasonal treats including chocolate, little cake balls, candied kumquats and aquafaba. Not just great for being vegan but actually a triumph. First time trying aquafaba and it really tasted like a light, neutral whipped cream. Big fan of the candied kumquats too. They even stuck a candle in the birthday girl's bowl and led the obligatory serenade. Overall a fun experience that reflects Alex Lauritzen's passion for vegetable based cuisine, taking it fully to the fine dining level but doing it with joy and whimsy. Staff and service were attentive. This was the eighth mushroom with dinners occurring once a month. They may also do pop up a La carte service but I'm not sure. Check the Insta @the mushroomsf for deets. We left pleasantly full so no post-Michelin pizza
