    THE ORIGINAL

Was disappointed in what I ordered from this location. My food was warm rather than fresh and hot. I can tell that the rice was not fresh and had prob been sitting in the rice cooker for awhile because I tasted gritty and tough rice pieces. The chicken, similarly, felt like it was sitting in a food warmer for long period of time. It had a chewy texture and was warm rather than hot and soft. I had to microwave my food because I felt like it was not safely hot enough to eat. I would not recommend this location or the food here.

It's a great spot to grab a weekday lunch. I get the original and the riceless with dark meat. The chicken is always juicy and tender. The ginger scallion sauce provides a lot of flavor to the chicken. When I do get the rice, the flavor is slightly flavored so it complements perfectly.

Popular takeout spot I think around 8 people picked up to go orders while we sat outside! The outdoor area is cute and was a great place to enjoy our meals! Food was good - I think next time I would get the Khao Tom Gai even though the portion was kind of small, it looked really good! Hours on yelp/google maps are also wrong! Said it was closed on Friday, luckily we were just walking by and decided to eat here so we knew it was indeed open!

Happy Hour pricing is advertised for Monday through Friday, 4:00-6:00 pm and last hour before closing, which was 7:00-8:00 pm tonight. This signage is to the right of the entryway, fully visible. My receipt has my order placed at 7:29 pm, so clearly happy hour eligible. I entered the storefront already knowing what I was going to order, the young male working the front was sitting on a stool while looking down at his phone. I approached the front counter, he looked up at me as I continued walking to the counter to place my order, but then he looked back down at his phone.. So, being ignored completely and purposely, I order through the kiosk. I assumed the kiosk would be programmed to automatically discount orders during happy hour periods, but that didn't happen with my order. I, regretfully, even tipped on this order...for the kitchen staff, I guess... There was another pair of customers who had ordered before me already there when I arrived, based on the numbering system on their order compared to my name from the kiosk, it was clear that they had been rung up by a human. I'm waiting for my order and the next customer walks in, places their order, and the cashier tells them the total, then corrects himself and applies the happy hour discount, then tells the customer the discounted total. So, pretty sure I would've received the happy hour discount if he had bothered to ring me up instead of ignoring me and having me order through the kiosk. I don't know why I wasn't worth the time for this young person to put his phone down, get off his stool, and take my order...like he did for the customers before me and after me...but this purposeful discrimination cost me 25% compared to the other customers in the store while I was there. I'm sure it's more that he's just young and lazy, and not any actual discrimination or prejudice against me compared to the customers immediately before and after me, but I am genuinely curious why he ignored me after looking at me. It's so dumb. I love this place, and this location is better than the other ones I've been to. And, of course, the food still tasted as good as it always does. I didn't even go there because of the discount, I was just glad I made it before closing after driving 8 hours home from SoCal and wanted comforting food. I mentioned that the kiosk doesn't apply the happy hour discount and he just stared at me blankly without saying a word. I gave him a few seconds to see if he'd say anything at all, but then I bailed him out and just said "just so you're aware" and walked out. I'll still go back here after this, but obviously I'll stand there until a human rings me up and remind them about the discount if it happens to be happy hour next time.

Portions getting smaller and smaller and prices going up. Last bowl had 4 ounces of chicken

Brown and flavorless ginger scallion sauce and literally all the chicken that came with my $17 Original meal.

R&R is usually my go to so I'm sad that I need to post this to warn everyone that something is seriously wrong at this location. I ordered my usual Original through Uber Eats and received about 2 ounces of chicken breast total in my meal for which I was charged $16.95 plus tax, tip and fees. I'm on a restricted medical diet so I've gone through phases in the last few months where I've ordered this exact meal everyday for weeks on end and there is usually a good sized chicken breast included. They either screwed up my order or have started ripping customers off. When I called to try to get answers the employee I spoke with was extremely rude and tried to blame the missing chicken on the delivery driver despite my telling them the package arrived stapled shut with the receipt and no sign of tampering. They refused to apologize and acknowledge that they'd either made a mistake or dramatically changed their portion size and instead kept trying to gaslight me in every way they could think of. The ginger scallion sauce is also totally wrong, instead of the delicious combo they usually offer this was just brown, grated ginger with some canola oil poured on top of it. They charged me the usual $2.95 for a tiny serving, though. DON'T patronize this location, something is seriously wrong.

The hours on Yelp is incorrect. They are open on Sundays. I ordered through Uber Eats and the food was ready in 5 minutes. On the app, you can customize to having extra cilantro and cucumbers. The food was delicious. I like how it comes with chicken broth as an appetizer. The ginger sauce was not salty. The chicken was smooth and not chewy. I'll definitely be back!

    Toddler approved.

I've been ordering Rooster and Rice for years and years. Now I get to share with my 16 month old and she loves it too! Healthy & quick option that rarely disappoints. P.S. Portions are back to pre-pandemic!

Price increase by like 50% :O

Good spot with quick service. Also it's really only had take out but does have a couple small tables right in front. Chicken and rice were cooked perfectly and the sauce it was served with was super tasty. Kind of overpriced for what you get though.

Friendly welcome and kind service. Outside available seating / No indoor dining Khao Tom Gai was packed with a delicious broth. Very comfy , warming food. I wish the portion was bigger. My brother had the original and ate everything! He really liked his meal. I didn't get the Thai flavors that I was expecting. The Khao Tom Gai reminded me of the Filipino chicken congee. Nice bits of fresh garlic. Over all, I was expecting a little bit more. But it was still a satisfying meal.

The Original, chicken thigh with jasmine rice.

I love rooster and rice. I usually go to the one in stonestown, but I was in the Marina area today, so I decided to order some food for dinner. The person working there seemed tired and didn't really greet me, but I wasn't too thrown off. I ordered the original with brown rice and was charged the extra $3 for the substitute. I was handed the "to go" bag fairly quickly, since I was the only person there. When I got home, I opened the bag to eat my food, but was disappointed to find that I got jasmine rice instead of the brown rice. I normally don't eat white rice as it spikes my blood sugar. Maybe I should have checked right there and then? I paid extra and didn't get the right order, while being the only person physically there. I'll be taking my business back to the stonestown location.

And this coming from someone who ate chicken and waffles at Lois the Pie Queen and Home of Chicken and waffles in Oakland (check those places out too). Back to K Soul Chicken though, I was one of the only people in there, there wasn't really anything that looked special about the place. Makes sense though because they have the sense not to waste the money on some foolish decorations and whatnot, and to instead spend it all on THAT CHICKEN. Don't judge a book by its cover. This chicken was perfect. Absolutely perfect. I love it so much. It was pricey (20 dollars for a serving) but it'll leave you super full, and I would have paid twice that for this. Perfect texture, perfect taste. It wasn't the spiciest gochujang so if you're korean maybe you'll feel different but I'm white with a medium spice tolerance so cut me some slack. To me, the flavors were perfect. I almost threw up because I didn't leave enough room for the meal beforehand. I walked out of there barely able to stand. With any other food I wouldn't have been able to finish it but this was perfect. To all the reviewers saying "I ordered the galbi and i thought the flavors were okay" OF COURSE because you didn't order the gochujang. I'm telling you, I know fried chicken, it's probably my favorite food. I've tried the worst of the worst (KFC and Safeway) to the best - which is K SOUL CHICKEN. I don't speak with authority on a lot of things but I'll rant about this because I loved the chicken that much. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Both times I've been there it's been nearly empty. This business deserves more. Bring your friends, order the gochujang, and prepare to be amazed by how incredible this chicken is. Perfect temperature. Perfect texture. Perfect taste of the chicken, the batter, and the sauce. Perfect spice (not overpowering or painful, but still spicy). Not to mention it comes with rice cakes (tteokbokki) and pickled radish. 10/10. I loved it so much. To the owner, I don't know your name, but thank you for opening my eyes to your food. Much love

The food: -I ordered the 10 piece gangjung boneless fried chicken with garlic soy sauce. SO good! The sauce is a thick, sweet sauce with a tiny bit of heat (I'm a total wimp for spice/heat, but could handle this - but fyi if you have zero tolerance). -10 pieces didn't sound like it would be much chicken for the $20 price. Wrong! It's a massive box. -OK BUT THE BIGGEST THING: the chicken was still crispy crunchy when I got home an hour later!!! I was worried it would steam & soften in the box, defeating the whole purpose of going out of my way to such a highly rated place. It holds up!!! I was beyond pleased. Ordering: -I ordered ahead online and it was super easy. Didn't have to make an account to place the order, and overall smooth process. -I ordered at 2:30pm on a Saturday and the wait time was 20 min. I imagine it would be longer if ordering at peak hours. The restaurant: -It's just a pickup window, not an actual restaurant. So don't expect to dine there or use the restroom. Not a problem, just an fyi. Highly recommend! I'll be back.
