I still love their salads, although I am bummed that they replaced the pickled apricots with the cheaper pickled golden raisins instead. It makes a noticeable difference in the Awake or Vibrant salads. They've also introduced new, non-salad items to their menu: -Beef Bolognese: Flavorful, great portion, good texture. -Chicken Bone Broth Soup: Tasty 16 oz portion, but I was expecting a lot more filling inside. There was very little actual chicken and vegetables in this. It was mostly broth. The items are always well wrapped for takeout, though their brown bag doesn't have handles, so you should bring your own to drop the paper bag into. I like their motto: "Life is too short for an ordinary salad." I have tried the Awake Salad (egg, feta, cucumber, pickled onion, pickled apricot, spiced sunflower, pumpkin seeds, kale, and romaine with spicy potato spread) and the Lentil Mental Salad (red lentil balls, crispy onion, tabouli, red cabbage pickles, pomegranate, kale, and romaine with herb labneh spread); both were great. They were both definitely not ordinary -- with lots of flavors, colors, and textures. I especially liked the spreads in both salads that almost acted like a thick second dressing. For the protein add-ons, I liked the kofte meatballs. I expected the chicken protein add-on to be plain white meat chicken, but it was actually very sauced. With their salads already full of sauces and spreads, adding a heavily sauced protein resulted in an unbalanced pairing (1 star off). Note: I ordered the salads for delivery and the order arrived coming from a place called Sumac Istanbul Eats. When I was taking a walk toward Fisherman's Wharf, I noticed a crowd had gathered at the corner of Leavenworth and Union. I wasn't aware that they were all patronizing the nondescript shop, but the large takeout salads I saw piqued my curiosity. I came back a few weeks later, and it was just as busy. It was a bit confusing at first because I didn't see a menu. I walked up to the register and saw there were three different menus for three separate businesses - Saucy Greens for salad bowls, Soupchu for soups and stews, and Sumac for Middle Eastern bites. I was here for a salad but also got a soup which I reviewed separately (review: https://bit.ly/3ZHvo9c). I decided on the $15 Vibrant Salad. They slathered the plastic container with a spicy dip called muhammara. It was made of walnuts, red peppers, pomegranate molasses, and breadcrumbs. It was quite an abundant serving which I took away and trundled down the steep hill to Francisco Park. It was there at one of the blocky picnic tables that I noticed the server forgot my utensils. It was too daunting to climb the hill, so I had to take my food, walk up Polk Street, beg for a fork from another cafe, and find another park to eat. It was tasty but man... OMG, this is such a hidden gem in the city - perfect for a quick and flavorful lunch with an unbeatable view while you wait. I tried their falafel bowl and wow, so good. The flavor was bold, fresh and perfectly balanced with other ingredients. The falafels were especially on point - crispy outside, soft inside and packed with so much flavor. I have dreams of this salad. This place serves up banging salads which are worthy of being called salad or meals or even worth driving to their location on the SF hills. As far as the ambience goes, it doesn't seem to be dine in, just an ordering/pickup window. Parking can be an issue in this area and I'm not sure about delivery. But we placed for pick-up and also called to request that they pack sauces and dips separately to which they kindly obliged. We did one lentil bowl and the other was chicken based (glow bowl). I love yogurt/feta based dips so I was obsessed with those while my partner loved the pink vinaigrette (which is a first for him!), The bowls are loaded, easily suffice for over 2 meals. There are packages of bags ready for pickup. Two Uber eats drivers waiting for their orders at 7 pm. Car had to circle before their order was ready. Why is it on a corner on top of the hill? With no parking. No seating. But apparently their business is doing great. What business model do they have? Somebody got to write them up and get a background story. Only doing takeout/to go orders! Pro tip is def to order ahead because they are cranking out orders so the wait can be a little even though it's just salad/soup. The smell of the place is incredible. I got the Awake Salad, recommended to me by the kind lady taking orders in the front window of the shop, a little space on the top of a hill in the Russian Hill district. And I'm so glad she did; it was a nourishing, filling, beautiful salad that made me feel like I could run a hundred miles after scarfing it down. I wish they had plain roasted beets to add because the pickled ones were a little much for me. The falafel were so crispy and delicious even my chickpea-hater boyfriend enjoyed them! One con is that the bowls are so small, it's hard to mix the salad up if you're a mixer. I had to take it home and put it in a big salad bowl (which was filled to the brim!!).
