This place is an absolute gem. And if you blink, you'll miss it! Situated on a hill, you'll have a nice view while you wait! The staff were lovely and everyone seemed really happy to help even though they were incredibly busy. But the salad. Oh my gosh the salad. I grabbed the bag and headed to the park. When I pulled it out of the bag, I was shocked to see how much they packed in the bowl! I couldn't believe the portion size. Ot was one of the most delicious salads I have ever eaten in my life. This was the perfect picnic food. Highly recommend!

Awesome delivery experience to my hotel. Healthy food is challenging to find on vacation, and this exceeded my expectations!

When I was taking a walk toward Fisherman's Wharf, I noticed a crowd had gathered at the corner of Leavenworth and Union. I wasn't aware that they were all patronizing the nondescript shop, but the large takeout salads I saw piqued my curiosity. I came back a few weeks later, and it was just as busy. It was a bit confusing at first because I didn't see a menu. I walked up to the register and saw there were three different menus for three separate businesses - Saucy Greens for salad bowls, Soupchu for soups and stews, and Sumac for Middle Eastern bites. I was here for a salad but also got a soup which I reviewed separately (review: https://bit.ly/3ZHvo9c). I decided on the $15 Vibrant Salad. They slathered the plastic container with a spicy dip called muhammara. It was made of walnuts, red peppers, pomegranate molasses, and breadcrumbs. Then the salad itself was stacked in starting with the mixed greens followed by beets, marinated feta, fennel, pickled onions, and spiced sunflower and pumpkin seeds (photo: https://bit.ly/3mO6hmE). It was quite an abundant serving which I took away and trundled down the steep hill to Francisco Park. It was there at one of the blocky picnic tables that I noticed the server forgot my utensils. I asked specifically for a fork and a spoon for the soup, but I didn't think to confirm their presence in the bag. It was too daunting to climb the hill, so I had to take my food, walk up Polk Street, beg for a fork from another cafe, and find another park to eat. It was tasty but man... FOOD - 4 stars...quite a mammoth salad well assembled, healthy and full of flavor AMBIANCE - n/a...a moot point since the space was not set up for dining SERVICE - 2 stars...nice but chaotic and uncoordinated...they even asked if I needed utensils TOTAL - 4 stars...great salad bowl hampered by missing utensils...bring your own spork! Objects are smaller than it looks but the salad is big and packed. Who thought of opening a place with just a window and the inside is an assembly line kitchen. There's got to be 10 workers in there. There are packages of bags ready for pickup. Two Uber eats drivers waiting for their orders at 7 pm. Car had to circle before their order was ready. Why is it on a corner on top of the hill? With no parking. No seating. But apparently their business is doing great. What business model do they have? Somebody got to write them up and get a background story. They have one like this in Los Angeles. The Vibrant salad $15 was delicious. This is California, we have the best fruits and veggies. I can't include all the ingredients, probably at least 10 . Marinated onions us delicious. Add some pumpkin seed nuts for a crunch. Cubes of beets. Muhammara (roasted red pepper sauce, a little kick. Kale. Yummy. I had to try the banana pudding $9. Good banana flavor

Only doing takeout/to go orders! Pro tip is def to order ahead because they are cranking out orders so the wait can be a little even though it's just salad/soup. The smell of the place is incredible. The food smells so so good and waiting outside for your food is dangerous. Ordered the passion salad but asked for vegetarian so they switched to muhummara and also got the red lentil soup. Portion size was great and both really tasted so fresh and good.

If you think salads are boring, you haven't had Saucy Greens! They serve the most fresh and vibrant salads for such a reasonable price. I love that each salad comes with a homemade spread and is packed full of toppings. Eating one of these salads keeps me full for almost the whole day, but protein add-ons are available if you're extra hungry. My favorite is the Awake salad - it comes with spicy potato spread, organic egg, marinated feta, cucumber, pickled onion, pickled apricot, and spiced sunflower and pumpkin seeds with kale and romaine. So delicious! It's an explosion of flavors and textures, in the best way.

ordered pick up from here, definitely a very unique salad spot to check out. I got a custom bowl and added multiple hummus options/sauces. I loved the sumac sauce (it's a pink one) - very flavorful. I wasn't a huge fan of the falafels - they are orange in color and tasted very different from typical falafels. Was happy with portion size - huge salads for the price. Overall would suggest trying this spot if you are a fan of colorful/unique salad combinations. Would give this place a 3.5 - rounding to 4 for the good customer service.

This review is going to be simple and sweet. Visit this place!!!!!! I got the Awake Salad, recommended to me by the kind lady taking orders in the front window of the shop, a little space on the top of a hill in the Russian Hill district. And I'm so glad she did; it was a nourishing, filling, beautiful salad that made me feel like I could run a hundred miles after scarfing it down. I love a salad that is heaped with a huge diversity of ingredients and this one fit the bill for sure. You can peer into the shop and see everyone packing up orders and it just seems like such a vibe. So clean. So fresh. I'll be back when I'm in the area!

    Order here!

Saucy Green=Sumac Istanbul Street Food I was confused at first looking for a restaurant called Saucy Greens when I only saw Sumac. Do not be fooled, this is the place you are looking for. I arrived at peak lunch time and is very busy and efficient. Place your order on their website for fast pickup. I placed my order at the front door but was kindly encouraged to use a more contemporary approach! ;). There is no indoor service or seating what so ever. Your order will be packed to go. Salad review: Herb Passion Salad with added Lentil Balls ($14+$5) Worth every penny! Citrus massaged kale and Romain greens, chopped apricots, toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds, chickpeas, sliced radishes, marinated red pepper and onion, a gentle cumin sprinkling, with a tzatziki style dressing! Boom! Plus the lentil balls are slightly spicy topped with onions caramélisés! EXCELLENT balance of harmonious flavors all around!

Such pretty salads. Recently got their awake salad via delivery while working and yeah, I feel great after eating it. It's fresh, vibrant, and delicious.

If there's something that SF does well, it's salads. And this is one of the best and most filling ones I've had. Got the vibrant salad with a side of chicken. Came with pickled onions, beets, fennel, feta, etc. This was humongous and I struggled to finish it. So tasty and fanatic though. Also came with muhammara at the bottom and side and honestly made it so much better. The chicken on the side was very flavorful, tender, and juicy - heavily spiced with middle eastern spices. Totally worth it and so much better compared to what you would get at Sweetgreen

I walked past it and got like a block away and was like maaaaaan shiiiiiittt Im turning around lol. I went back and came to get a sanny and Im happy I did, I was planning on eating it on the walk. The place has a lot of choices like a regular deli youd find in the northeast. San Francisco has definitely the best Little Italy as far as choices to pick from and its really big and spread out. I had the Goodfella. Roast beef, prosciutto, salami, provolone and basil. I added the pesto and olive oil and replaced the provolone with fresh mozzarella. Best part was there was an old ass lady who made the sanny and she loaded it lol. The bread makes the sandwich and it was really soft and crunchy. Soo good. I 1000% recommend this place and I am sure she makes all the sandwiches the same!

Wowowow …read more... Visited Alimento twice, my most recent being today -- 6/27. It's a small deli shop that offers gelato, sandwiches, and pastries. They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. But I feel comfortable coming here in shorts and a t-shirt. The staff is always welcoming. I also go to the Los Altos Grill which is the same restaurant as Hillstone. The menu is pretty much the same, but the service at Hillstone is just excellent.

Then they said "please don't move around so we can get the right food to you" which, like fine but that's not the reason they didn't want us to move. You're aiming for a hoity toity atmosphere, we can move plates around. There's an obnoxious but unenforced dress code (no jerseys then someone came in with a jersey and was as seated, no baseball hats...), but the straw that broke the camels back was when the hostess asked me to stay seated while I was seated. My 4 year old needed entertainment as we were paying the bill, we were in our last few minutes there and she told me that I had to stay in my seat. Which I was. They didn't get the order right for said 4 year old: hamburger, no cheese. Showed up with cheese. If you don't want kids in your restaurant, just turn people away. But also you're on the Embarcadero, not in a fancy neighborhood. Overpriced by 20%.
