Had a lovely time. My husband is from the area, and we fly in from NYC a couple times a year. I wanted sushi so we tried Miyabi's. We had edamame, seaweed salad, and wonton soup for appetizers. They were all delicious and exactly what we expected. It was a lot of salad, actually, and I stopped eating halfway through to save room for the sushi. My mother in law and I shared a Paradise Roll and a Rainbow Roll. My husband ordered the Tri-color sushi. We shared everything, and it was all great. I thought the rolls were a little too big to be easily managed, and I had to shove them inelegantly into my mouth. My MIL's cucumber martini was fine, but I don't think we would order it again. I had a Cab-Sav that didn't pare well with the seaweed, but the wine itself was good. My husbands Sapporo was (unsurprisingly) an excellent food match. We loved our server, Nae Kyong, and we would absolutely go back again. The place had a good buzz without ever getting too loud for conversation. read more

This was by far the worst dining experience I have had in a long time! My daughter ordered seaweed salad and it was icy and frozen. I understand that these things happen but then I took a bite of my tako (octopus) and that too was frozen inside! My salmon sashimi was not fresh tasting and the miso soup was extremely bland. We go out for sushi at least 2x a month and have been to a wide variety of Japanese restaurants in the twin cities and I would rank this one as the worse. On top of everything else, the booth seating was so uncomfortable. The seats were hard and shallow and we were so far from the table that we couldn't reach our food unless we were at the edge of our seat. The service has not been great the last two times we've been there. I just recently found out about some food allergies I have. I ordered a curry soup to start that was good. Then I ordered pad Thai. We went there for lunch for our anniversary today. There were very few people there besides us, so service should have been fast and attentive. It started out fine, but, at least for me, went downhill from there. My husband ordered a sushi/sashimi plate, and it looked great, and he enjoyed it. To me, raw fish - and most cooked fish, for that matter - is disgusting, so I chose a brown sauce with beef and broccoli with fried, rather than white, rice. It was a rather small portion, but since it was lunch, that's fine. We both got our small house salads first, and they were fine, though the Asian dressing was, for me, too thick. The meals came at different times - my husband's first. After my meal finally arrived, the waiter told me my fried rice would be right out. It arrived 5-10 minutes later, and was pale and rather flavorless. For an additional $2.00, I expected better. The beef in my lunch was like chewing a piece of Bazooka Joe gum and tasted like leftovers from the night before. I've had much better food at local takeouts. They don't leave the tea pot on your table, so I expected the waiter to return a couple of times to refill my cup - nope. Never happened. SO - will we return? No. read more

It seems there is still no great sushi in the west burbs. Went for dinner last night and were mostly disappointed. The rolls were bland. The quality of the fish was sub par and either the server brought me the wrong thing, or their ramen is a total joke. More like chicken and vegetable noodle soup. At least the cocktails were decent. What a wonderful place to eat!! I'm a very picky person and I have discovered this place within the last month.. Service is great, food is wonderful and the drinks are amazing..!! It takes alot for me to be impressed and I would highly recommend this place. It's in the heart of downtown Excelsior and it's just a classy atmosphere with a hometown feeling... Make sure you try their signature Miyabi Mojito and Lychee Martini.. Take out. Maybe I caught them on a bad night. I ordered the mango dish with Thai chili (w/chicken). It was pretty awful. The chicken was rubbery and tasted of fish; to the point where I asked my wife to try it and make sure it actually was chicken and I wasn't crazy. The veggies and mango weren't very good either. The chicken was off-putting enough for me to never give this place another chance. I tried to power through, but 4 bites in I pitched it in the trash, completely dejected. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the wife really enjoyed her chicken fried rice. read more

The staff at Miyabi was helpful and attentive, and I really liked the mushroom sushi we ordered. However, I was disappointed in my Pad Thai, which was very bland. I love spicy food, so I got the Spicy Mango Thai Chili Sauce with Chicken. There was no spice. The chicken was a cubed processed chicken. It was a watery dish, like just thawed out. I sprung for a $12 Lychee Martini. I'm not much of a drinker, but this was so watered down I could have chugged it. It was like Kool-Aid. We were very disappointed. We went to Miyabi for date night and had an extremely poor experience. I grew up in the area and have never had this terrible of a customer service like this. The staff was rude from the moment we walked in. The waitress clearly did not want to be there and insisted on taking our drink order with our dinner order. Then rarely checked on us unless it was to give us our bill. While eating we could hear the staff talking about us in the kitchen from the dining room. This turned out fun evening into a very upsetting one. I do not recommend this restaurant. Instead I would recommend Wakame in Calhoun Square. read more

Excellent food, good service. Sesame chicken is usually made with poor quality dark meat but this features delicious white meat. The cashew nuts with sweet chili sauce was outstanding with vegetables that were steamed perfectly, not overcooked and limp which is so often the case with a dish like this. Very clean, nice place and food was well presented. At 7:30 on a Tuesday, it was packed and we had to shout to hear each other. Everything but the standard sushi rolls and a few of the appetizers were overpriced (20+ for an entree). Portions were very small compared to similar restaurants. Go to Kona Grill in Eden Prairie instead. read more

Food was pretty tasty, I was pleasantly surprised. Food service was very bad!!! The asian lady with pink bow in the hair didn't want to fill my son's water. She suggested that he drinks the extra water on the table, which belongs to the forth person, my grandson. She didn't come to ask what we needed or fill up the water. I had to flag her down for a box to go and bill. After paying for the bill, I noticed she piled all the plates on top of the other not intending to box our food because we didn't see a box by the time we left... makes me really mad. The high school girls at the reception desk are not good at their jobs; the one who greeted us Friday night couldn't even muster up a smile and seemed to regard us as an inconvenience. My family had dinner here last weekend. I was excited to have a new dining option in Excelsior. It was just ok. Our waiter was fantastic-extremely outgoing. Our drinks were good as well. The food was just ok. The sushi was the star of the meal. We had two rolls that were excellent. The rest of the meal wasn't very good. My potstickers had a strange flavor to them. My husbands soup was bland. I would definitely go back for the sushi but I probably wouldn't order much else. read more

Horrible!!! The pad thai smelled so disgusting that I could not even dream of eating it. The "beef" was shoe leather and there was a sauce that tasted rancid. Gag! The rice bowls were tiny tiny tiny and NOT good. The unagi rolls were also tiny. The spring rolls were tasteless and the sauce was overly sweet. The spicy tuna rolls looked like cat food and were not even spicy. So basically, we paid way too much money for very unpalatable food. That took ages to prepare. Maybe the sushi rolls are pretty and they may be better tasting, but as far as the "asian" entrees go... NEVER order them! Blech!! read more

On Sunday, 06/05/16, we honestly had THE very WORST experience EVER at a restaurant. EVER. I don't know if everyone working was brand new, right out of high school, there were no managers there at the time, or they just didn't.care.at.ALL. IT.WAS.BAD. My husband and I truly thought we might have been on one of those "Candid Camera" shows to see how we reacted to such HORRIBLE SERVICE. From the moment we walked into the restaurant and saw all of the hostesses and servers (about 5 total) sitting at the bar, ignoring us, we should have known it wouldn't have been good...But we decided to stay and try the "new sushi place" out. We asked to sit on the patio (the sign said "Patio Open!"), and were seated by Hostess #1. The entire patio was empty, no patrons. Hostess #1 told us how slow the restaurant was that evening and that we were the only ones there (which was tacky, in general) . On the patio, there were a number of larger tables (4-ups) and some very small tables (2-ups with not much room for a bunch of sushi platters that we were about to order). She sat our party of 2 at a one of the very small tables despite the fact that the larger ones, in the shade, were all wide open. If I were serving us, I would have told us, "Wherever you'd like to sit!" Anyway, about 5 minutes later, Hostess #2 came out with 2 glasses of water. She said, "Can I get you anything more to drink?" We both said, "Yes, thanks." And quickly looked down at our menus to see what sort of beverages they served. But after only a very quick moment, Hostess #2 said, "Okay, well, someone else will be out." Wait, Hostess#2, .....Didn't you just ask us if YOU could get us something more to drink other than water!?! Weird. But we kept with it and didn't make a scene whatsoever. About 5 minutes after that (a full 10 minutes after we were seated), Hostess #2 sat a table of 3 RIGHT NEXT TO US on the wide open patio. FYI, Hostesses, people don't like to be sat RIGHT next to another party when there are no other parties around...Makes patrons feel crowded, uncomfortable, and we can hear each other's private conversations! Us 2 were on a DATE...We didn't like that. Hostess #2 did not say a word to us as she walked away from seating the 3 right next to us, yet about 30 seconds later, she arrived with their waters. (again, we waited 5 minutes for water!). I said, "Excuse me, does any one or any server know we're out here? We haven't been served yet." She said, "Oh. I'll check to see who your server is." A few minutes later, a young man comes out onto the patio, walks right past our table and asks the party of 3 next to us - who got there a full 10 minutes AFTER US - if he could grab them drinks & their food order. He did not acknowledge us whatsoever...even though we sat RIGHT next to them. This is when we though "Candid Camera" was filming us. We laughed because it was absolutely ridiculous...WHO IS RUNNING THIS PLACE, we said?!? As he walked away, ignoring us, I grabbed his attention and said, "Excuse me, are you are server?" He said, "I'm not sure who your server is, let me go check." We were dumbfounded b/c Hostess #1 told us we were the only ones at the restaurant, so it wasn't as though he was super busy....PLUS we were seated RIGHT next to the party of 3, so we would assume we were also in his section. RIght??? A few minutes later (we had been there for almost a full 25 minutes by this point), the young man server came back and said, "Well, I have no idea who your server is, so I guess I'll take your order." We, once again, could LITERALLY not believe we had such PISS POOR service since we walked into this brand new restaurant. We would surely not be coming back again, but decided to give it a go to see how the food was.... He asked for our drink orders. I ordered "just a House Chardonnay, please"...He said, "Is Kendall Jackson house wine?" Having been a server for many years (which is the only reason why we've been SO patient with the poor service up to this point!!), I told him I doubted that KJ was their House Wine. He didn't know what else they had, so he handed me a drink menu. Oh, thanks, that would have been great if Hostess #1 would have handed us this...maybe then we would have been quick enough for Hostess #2 to stick around for 3 seconds to take our beverage order before she scurried off so quickly. Wow. Anyway, my partner said he would have a Kirin Ichiban....Well, they were all out of that, the young server informed him. 1 small Warm Sake it is, then .I've been a bartender for many years, and can eye a 6oz and a 9oz poor quickly....When my Chardonnay came, it was probably a 4oz pour. And the warm Sake bottle was only 1/2 way full. What a rip off. At the same time, along with our entrees, we also ordered the Spicy Garlic Edamame as an appetizer. When the Edamame came out --- 2 minutes before our food --- it was the basic Edamame with sea salt, not the spic garlic version we ordered. read more

It is cold here in this part of the country at this time of year; colder than we remembered. We were craving hot soup after a walk along the shore so we wandered into Miyabi on Water Street. Firstly, on a Wednesday at lunch, the tables and booths were full. We ordered a sushi roll and two noodle entrees: shrimp curry broth and shrimp lemongrass soup. We waited a bit and considered service was perhaps slow even though the wait staff was very attentive. When our food arrived and we had our first tastes, oh my goodness...hot and yum! The spicy tuna roll was not necessarily as expected but it was fresh, delicious, and the best sushi we have had in a long while. The soups were spiced perfectly; we slurped every drop as well as pulling out the tasty veggies with chopsticks. Every inch of this eatery was spotless. Sushi bar and a separate beverage bar offer additional seating. An outdoor patio is available in warmer months. This is a big city gem in a small town. Not fast food, the menu offerings we enjoyed were worth the wait. As we donned our winter gear and headed out the door, we were pleased to have found Miyabi. When visiting another time we will surely give this another try. read more
