Such a beautiful exterior with ample parking. I was pleased, yet not surprised to see the inside was just as beautiful. I was advised to try the basil wings. When I say, these we literally the best wings. The epitome of everything I can want in wings. Between the flavor and the flawless tempura crust I couldnt have been more satisfied. Location is very easy to get to with a large parking lot. Inside has a nice space with bar seating, high tables and regular table seating. They also have an open kitchen view which is always fun to see. The basil wings are a must have. If you've been to their sister restaurant then you already know. You'll see these wings on every table and their is a reason why. We also got the garlic green beans which had a great crunch and freshness to the beans. The sauce was so good we put that on rice to make sure nothing went to waste. Dinner was Red Curry with Chicken and the Short Ribs. The Short Ribs were very tender and juicy. We dined here for lunch on Friday and sat outside since their patio is partially shaded. They have lots of lunch items to select from and the Pad Thai was delicious. On our way home from a music venue, we stopped off at Lat 14 on the Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. The bar at Lat 14 always beckons us when there's a seat available. Since the weather was great, the good folks of Minneapolis were outside doing what they do. That's perfect for us urban dwellers, who would choose AC over sweat, skin cancer, and wrinkles because bar seats are open. Lyricx was our server, and he took great care of us. Plus, he was fun and laughed at my ridiculous commentary. We did take out after having a few drinks, and the grub at Lat 14 always is lip-smacking good. The first time we visited right after they opened, the wait was pretty long, but this visit was much smoother. Our server was welcoming and attentive, and parking was easy. The standout dish for us was the Tom Yum Ramen--it completely exceeded our expectations. We also really enjoyed the basil wings, though they were on the smaller side. The Jeow Bong Fried Rice was the spiciest dish we ordered, and I was happy to find that it wasn't "Minnesota spicy". It actually had a nice kick! This place gets busy! We came early but by the time we left there was a crowd at the entrance waiting to be seated. Be prepared for them to ask you to surrender your table right after you pay. They did it in a nice way but if you are looking for a Minnesota goodbye you're not gonna get it here. Otherwise the service was quick and friendly. The food and presentation were very nice. This place is always busy. The huge parking lot is typically full every night. Went around 4pm on a weekday and were able to get a table right away while it was quiet. Great service. The food is amazing. Love the basil wings. The crunch on them is everything. My go to for Thai or SE Asian restaurants is always pad Thai when I'm unsure. Upon arrival the restaurant was absolutely slammed with people. Unfortunately our reservation was at 7pm and we weren't seated until 730. The good news is this was the only negative experience of the night and everything else more than made up for it resulting in a 5/5 experience I had the rambutan rum runner cocktail to start, and my god I felt like I was on a beautiful summer beach vacation. So tropical, fruity and sweet while being well balanced and not being overwhelmingly sweet. Packed a bit of ginger flavor giving it a hint of spice as well. So delish! For an entree I had the Jeow Bong Shrimp Fried Rice. This was hands down the best fried rice I've had in my whole life. So unbelievably flavorful while packing just the right punch. When I make fried rice at home this is what I dream of being able to create. I will come back for this dish alone! What an amazing experience! We went to Lat 14 to celebrate the anniversary of our friends and everything was absolutely perfect! We made a reservation but we did have to wait a bit for our table; it was a Friday and quite busy (understandably so). Even with the wait, our experience was incredible. We started off with the basil wings, which we ate too quickly to get picture of, but they were phenomenal. They were a dry rub that had no need for any sauce and I will be thinking about them for some time. For entrees, we ordered the jeow bong shrimp fried rice, the kai soi chiang mai (a curry served with white rice), and kare kare (beef shortrib). I couldn't say which dish was my favorite because they were all so different. All of them were 5/5 stars, though. All the food was brought out promptly and all dishes were served family style, which we loved. The service was incredible; our server was kind and super knowledgeable. The mood in the restaurant was peaceful, yet lively at the same time, making for a pleasant dining experience with our friends. The place is more casual than the sister restaurants. Mango mojito is the Zara Larson Midnight Sun drink. The luq scoop was the highlight. The appetizers were good and the drinks were pretty, I really enjoyed my non-alcoholic tropical spritz (also shout out to our waiter who was able to make our birthday girls request of the non-alcoholic tropical spritz with a shot of alcohol). I think I was just a little bummed about the man entree selections. It was largely noodle dishes with few options that didn't have a lot of noodles and less protein forward options. I enjoyed the green beans but for some reason they were drowning in sauce, like a third of the bowl was sauce. Due to the lighting I would recommend not having orange font for a more dimly lit interior, I was able to see fine but it's hard to make out what things are called. Wow, from the minute we walked in to when we left, Lat14 was amazing. The interior and vibe was so calming and upscale/clean, the staff were extremely friendly but most importantly the food was outstanding. We started with the crab Rangoon wontons which come with 3 but you can get more added and the Thai basil wings. Both were 12/10, amazing and would order again immediately. Best dinner I've had all year! Lat14 has been on my list for a while now and I'm so glad we finally went. I was blown away by not only their food but the romantic atmosphere and excellent service. -basil chicken wings were excellent. Super crispy and I loved the tempura Thai basil and jalapeños that came with it -drunken noodles with beef was out of this world and my favorite dish that I can't stop thinking about. It's super flavorful and the beef was super tender -Tom yum ramen was incredible! The broth was delicious and had a hint of lime. Scallops were buttery and juicy -my friend loved her pad Thai with chicken and fried rice with shrimp -turon dessert was insane! It was sweet yet salty and just something I've never had before. We ordered the lumpia (like a mini egg-roll but more delicious), Nam Khao (lettuce wraps you put ground pork on- this was only okay, I would've liked to see a sauce with this), smoked salmon fried rice (yum- crunchy bits of salmon, salty and well-flavored), drunken noodles (always good, standard rich flavor), squash curry (this was okay- great rich curry sauce but I wish there was more of it, I wanted more to pour over some jasmine rice). Lat14 was a great surprise in Golden Valley. It's one of the few places that reminds me of my mother's south Asian cooking. With such a perfect blend of flavors and spices from different cultures- you really get the feel that you're being transported far east.
