Outside of sushi, your mileage may vary. This review is solely based on the sushi we all ordered. Service was surprisingly fast this time (it's known to be slow) and friendly. We ordered several types of rolls. Alaska roll, Cowboy Roll, Spider roll, Spicy Tuna roll and the Vegas roll. Hands down our favorite was the Cowboy roll. I go here when i'm not feeling okay and order my favorite dish, either veggie or chicken yakisoba, maybe some chicken karaage to walk home with. service is obviously amazing. i don't feel pressured, rushed, or out of place. if i'm not feeling like being in public they even offer to go service. i've also tried a bunch of their sushi and it's also excellent, but I'm gonna have to try it all again to tell you which ones were my favorite. ;))) read more

I have been coming here for over a year and have noticed a stark decline in quality and quantity of the food. The rolls are smaller and shorter than they have been and the prices are only going up. Not to mention, we have had to wait over an hour for our order to be ready many times. Extremely disappointing and not worth the price. Aloha e kakou a pau, Miyako reminds me of the "Mom & Pop" saimin / udon shops that were everywhere in Honolulu long ago! Tasty, friendly and wholesome. The current expensive sushi bars are not authentic eatery but up-scale drink counters wanting an Asian international facade. They are as phony as Miyako is not! St HELENS is a common people place with frugality looking for fair price. Dinner time is causal. I recommend a trial run before you make a judgement. read more

Scappoose and Saint Helens seem to only have 2 types of restaurants, Mexican and Chinese. Being a small town with limited restaurants I was skeptical about eating at a sushi place. However, was quite pleasantly surprised at the quantity and quality of food here. This is a small restaurant in the "downtown" area. The furnishings are simple and the bathroom is clean. The menu offers both bento style boxes and full sushi menu. Be prepared for a lot of food. The fish is good quality and sushi well made. It is better than the "train" style sushi but isn't quite up to par with the really good sushi restaurants in Portland. Have been eating lunch here now for some time and get quick service and good food. (Passes the sensitive tummy test.) read more

The chicken teriyaki is really good. My boyfriend tried a few sushi rolls, he liked some better than others, but he seemed to want to come back to try more, so that's a good sign. I'm also a huge fan of their cucumber salad (although the last time I was there, I ordered chicken teriyaki and the server asked if I wanted salad with that, and I said yes and that I wanted an extra one for my boyfriend to try--she brought us two garden salads... I was too embarrassed to clarify, but not sure why she would assume people want a garden side salad with their Japanese food, when on the menu it states that it comes with the sunomono). The service in general is kind of slow and lackluster. When we were finished eating, our server had disappeared, and eventually one of the other staff, owner possibly, who had been sitting across the room talking with someone, I think sense our vague impatience and came over to bring us boxes/check. I really really wish they would do something about their sad gross fish tank they have up front though. If you're going to display a fish tank, it should be clean and attractive. Not sure what to think of it coming out on a cast iron dish with a bag of coleslaw under a tiny bit of teriyaki chicken and a small bowl of rice on the side. Didn't have straws, no extra teriyaki sauce. I'm thinking it's high reviews are for Sushi and nothing else. If I ate fish bait I'd order sushi. My boyfriend ordered beef yakisobi, it had no flavor. A few points about this small Japanese grub hub. 1: The food is pretty good for the price you pay, above average across all boards. The only real complaint that i have is that a few of the sushi rolls are obnoxiously large in diameter and are a pain in the a** to eat. 2: The place has a fairly small occupancy threshold which means that the place can get pretty packed during peak hours and finding a seat may be difficult. 3: Now, this is the more important point. The service is rather slow, and by slow i mean that each time i visit [including non peak hours with only a few others dining in] the intervals of service are around 20 minutes. It is rather aggravating having to wait nearly a half hour after finishing a meal to receive the bill. So, if you are in a rush or simply need service don't be afraid to speak up and directly grab the attention of the staff. You shouldn't have to, but, it seems that the staff aren't very attentive. [UPDATE] They have hired more staff, the wait times are far shorter. A nice change of pace. pun intended. 4/5 stars, pretty good read more

My boyfriend is a sushi veteran and loves it as well, you can tell their ingredients are fresh and their products are well made!! I would also absolutely recommend their egg rolls!! Being in St. Helens, I did not have high expectations to begin with. My fears were confirmed with a 40min wait for three sushi rolls. My biggest complaint however is not the wait but instead the sushi. Let's start with the rice. It was completely un-seasoned and tasted like plain white stovetop. The crab salad in the California rolls was really mushy and tastes heavy of mayo. !?! The miso soup is also a joke. There was no wakame in it at all and tasted like it wasn't used in it's base. It was simply miso paste in hot water served in a cheap plastic bowl. Hubby's spicy tuna roll came looking like Mexican salsa in nori. He says it was too mushy to eat and had no real consistency. We tried making the best of it, we really did. We are giving up on the sushi and ordering chicken teriyaki yakisoba to go instead. Here's hoping it won't take another 40 minutes. read more

Also, because of the owners daughter commenting & saying that the service can't be helped - uhhhhm yes it can be. You work/own a restaurant. Customer service should be your top priority. If we call in a to go order & you quote it as being 45 minutes & then it actually ends up being more like an hour & a half... You have a problem & it needs to be fixed. Firstly, if you rate a restaurant with good food a 1 star because they were too slow for your taste, you are incredibly rude, and you probably shouldn't be allowed to review anything because it's beyond your mental capacity. The portions are good, the menu is big and the food is tasty. The waiting time is usually pretty accurate for me, but there are times were it could use more consistency. I've never had a problem with the food, and the workers are always friendly. I've got to say after eating here many times, never once have I been let down by the taste even if I wait more than I'd like. They do a fine job with the food. The prices continue to be very fair for the high quality we are getting. The standard maki rolls were adequate-to-somewhat above average, as was the udon, but some of the specialty rolls (North Carolina, St. Helens) were really very good! Generous roll size and good prices. Also very friendly service despite wanting to get closed for the holiday. Facebook menu appears to still be current prices; would love an updated page or menu online.
