Always call ahead if you plan on going, or you may have to wait 30 mins or more ( It is very popular). read more

Service was top notch with a waiter who saw to our every need ... I wish this place was in Alaska where I live. I will definitely eat here when visiting in California .. Sushi in Watsonville?! HmMmMmm, let's give it a go. Miyuki: "beautiful happiness", "deep snow"; as defined by the all-knowing Wikipedia, presents itself as your traditional, delectable eats, Japanese sushi house. With the old style edifice and dimly lit entryway, it took a moment before my eyes adjusted to the brightly lit dining room with the staple "Mirror-covered-wall-to-make-this-place-appear-larger-than-it-really-is". The waitress, taking a couple's order, smiled a hello and said "Any table is fine..." Being able to choose where to sit, while I swig my Nigori and riff through my latest manga? Yosh! Miso soup was piping and age-gyozas had an essence of "fried-wonton" crunch to them. The maguro karakuchi rolls were delightfully fresh with crispy veggie innards. Sake maki had a deep flavor and supple texture. Wasabi... mmMm, wasabiiiii... was not watered down, ginger tasted freshly cut and I had my choice of red or green soy sauce right at the table! As for the main course, Salmon / Beef Teriyaki combo, the presentation was creative, adorned with broccoli florets, halved bananas still encased in its peel along with orange slices for good measure. Both sides to the dish were tender and flavorful. Sauce was light and not too overbearing. Overall, good stuff. Unfortunately, like all good things in this world, the Japanese dish debauchery had to come to a close. Miyuki flips it's OPEN sign over roughly around 9pm. I was only able to get through two-thirds of my book and my bottle of unfiltered sake of equal fraction. Signing off on the bill, I smiled and pondered thoughtfully "When will my next trip to wonderful Watsonville be?" Gochisosama deshita. Food: MMmmMmmMmm... Ambiance: Well lit and commodious. Country music while I chow on raw fish? Okay. Price: No "Dollar Menu" at this joint. EeeSh, need to find a more inexpensive food addiction. read more

Watsonville is not known for "the" place to get sushi, but based on Miyuki....maybe it should be. If you like good sushi, you "gotta" try this place. And I'm not the only fan....the place was "jammed" at dinner....a good sign. read more

It is THE BEST authentic Japanese sushi restaurant I've been to in the entire Bay Area. A real Japanese sushi restaurant where they understand good fresh ingredients, delicate Japanese taste and Japanese hospitality. I'm Japanese, born and raised in Japan. I cannot find good Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area so I just eat my own cooked meal or wait till I go back home to Japan. I've tried many, including ones that have raving reviews. Restaurants here are often staffed with non-Japanese folks who just don't know how to pick the fresh ingredients or prepare the dishes correctly. I hate the super sweet Teriyaki sauce and thick batter tempura I find in many Japanese (or so they call themselves) restaurants. The sushi chef here has 40 years of experience and started his career in Japan. He knows how to pick fresh top notch fish and prepares them well. His Maguro is delicious and natural looking (v.s. the super pink stuff you find elsewhere) b/c it's not shipped frozen like many others. His albacore tataki was beautifully displayed (b/c presentation matters to us Japanese) and prepared with a fine delicate sacue. It just melted in my mouth like butter. Tempura was lightly battered, crisp and not oily. And of course, when I asked for 'oroshi-daikon', they knew exactly what it is and brought it over quickly (v.s. other restaurants where they give me a puzzled look). Hospitality was fantastic. We sat at the counter. The chef was friendly and recommended what was good for that day, and even gave us some samples to try another time. I'm definitely going back. It felt like home. read more

I love traditional Japanese food where the "aji" (flavor/taste) is real Japanese and where the dishes are prepared properly. I hate it when Teriyaki is just a piece of grilled meat drenched with a sugar, soy, mirin, cornstarch teriyaki sauce or when the Tempura has a kind of fish and chips style batter rather the light airy Tempura batter that it should have. I hate it when the Tonkatsu comes with a teriyaki sauce rather than a Tonkatsu sauce. Miyuki does a great job serving real traditional Japanese food rather than fake imitation Japanese food. read more

The food made me sick! How's that for good not very flavorful and they use way too much rice on their sushi rolls! There is variety but nothing that really jumps out. If anyone says it's the best it's only because they're used to sushi from 7-11 or some other gas station. Whipped out my phone to yelp it in the moment. The moment I describe is the post scallop dynamite bliss that is slowly fading from my tastebuds. Delicious. We also had the beef roll, which I advise you unroll it and eat with your hand so it is easier to enjoy and scoop up some extra sauce. Then, we had the tataki roll, which my husband enjoyed more than me-soaking in ginger ponzu sauce-it had an outbusts of flavor that I respect. Then, I ordered the salmon sashimi with low expectations bc since moving from LA I have not had decent sashimi anywhere let alone my favorite salmon until I squeezed a bit of lemon on it and placed it in my mouth. Then, I experienced that cool rich creamy flavor that I love-definitely a solid "A" for the sashimi. We will be coming back soon. read more

Went to eat here for my birthday last year. When we got there, they were putting up Christmas decorations and getting festive. When they found out it was my birthday, they brought me some sake bombs. YUM! We ordered our food, which came pretty quickly. The food was amazing! My only gripe would be there is limited parking. read more

This place is amazing every single time. The first time I came here I was a kid and had no idea what sushi was. My best friends dad brought me here and ever since that day I was hooked; Miyuki was my gateway to all sushi. I still remember having my first Unagi Roll and falling in love. Every roll I've had here is just as delicious as the last. One of my favorite rolls here has to be the rainbow roll, which has 6 different types of fish: Tuna, Salmon, Mackerel and I do not know the others, but its good! The fish is just great tasting and fresh. Anyway I suggest coming right before opening either at lunch, which is at 11 or dinner at 5, because the place gets full quickly. They don't accept reservations for lunch but if you have a sweet date and don't want to disappoint her or him, I suggest you make a reservation for dinner. Took my kids here for dinner on Friday night. We got a seat quickly and the service was solid. Started with the soft shell crab. Smaller than I expected but it was a decent choice. We ordered the mixed sashimi, 2 spicy tuna rolls, a rainbow roll and a spicy tuna handroll. Mixed sashimi was fresh and quantity was pretty good. Rainbow roll was very loosely rolled and fell apart. Spicy tuna rolls weren't spicy, had a ton of rice and very little tuna. Hand roll was good. All in all, it was a pretty good experience but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go back again. read more

I suggest the Tataki which is my fave and always say hi to Chief, the chef who is a sushi master and very talented and friendly. Hands down my favorite sushi in Santa Cruz County! Not only are the prices comparable, but the sushi is fantastic. Chef also makes a great sushi roll that isn't on the menu called the Paja-roll. It's my favorite roll ever! I love the little salads and the sushi is divine. The only downside might be the wait for the food as Miyuki's is busy EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Also, if you are not familiar with sushi rolls then you may need help deciphering the menu. read more

Authentic Japanese Food. The taste and flavor are like home-cooking. I've been coming here for 20 years. This place is legit. I don't care about your reviews for "sushi" when you talk about California rolls. Order the sukiyaki, the nigiri, tempura, or saba. These are great. Miyuki's has been my family's go-to place for any special celebration. It's become more popular over the years so it gets busy early on and the room is small and can get loud. This place is a small time gem with authentic Japanese food in an era engulfed by Americans who say I love Japanese food. Philadelphia/Dragon/blah blah rolls are great. read more

Yup, it's not hip like Santa Cruz; it's Watsonville -- a bit old-fashioned, a bit slow, and very down home. But the food reminds us of the very best old-fashioned Japanese restaurants in Little Tokyo, in LA and not far behind similar family-style restaurants in Kyoto. The sushi is always perfect, the tempura crispy and on a cold night in "the other bay area" there's nothing quite like the Yosenabe to warm you up. It's often busy, but well worth the wait --once you are seated, the staff does its best to serve you quickly and always with a smile. read more

I have been coming to Watsonville off and on for vacations for over two decades. I definitely have my favorite places, and each time I visit I try to find one new place that I love. I don't always succeed. This year, mission accomplished. Miyuki is now on the short list. Unfortunately, I had not been to Miyuki before. I have spent considerable time in Japan, lived for extended periods in Tokyo and Fukuoka, and have visited Japan over 50 times. I have had wonderful sushi in Japan. There are also many very good sushi restaurants in Berkeley CA where I work. I enjoyed Miyuki tremendously. The meal got off to a slow start. Although the miso soup was richly flavored and enjoyable, the mixed salad was a bit disappointing, based largely on iceberg lettuce. The salad dressing was good, but it would have been better with a different lettuce. The agedashi tofu that followed was very nicely prepared. This is a dish I eat often, and I liked the version at Miyuki very much. The deluxe sashimi and nigiri sushi platters were very nice and the fish especially fresh. Overall, this was one of the nicest Japanese meals that I have had in the US, and the price was very reasonable. I will be returning to Miyuki on future visits to Watsonville, and also plan to return as part of this stay. I am looking forward to trying the bento. This will definitely become a regular stop. As others have said, it is not a large restaurant, and it was reasonably full when we arrived. I am glad that we stayed. It was clear that many of the clients were regulars, and knew both the staff and others in the dining room. I confess that If I lived closer by, I would be there often as well. read more

Been coming here for 16 years. Best sushi ever. Tips - Yas (the Chief) is there Friday nights - that's the best day to go but you better get there early. They won't take reservations for less than 4 people. Get the Mussels DynaMite - also his Pajaroll is great. The Spice Spider roll also great. We always do sake, maguro, unagi, hamachi, albacore and we'll ask what the white fish is. If it's Halibut, do it! We'll also do oyster shooters depending on the season. If you are having a birthday dinner there, tell them and they'll bring out ice cream with a candle (and their ice creams are great too) and they turn out the lights and everyone signs happy birthday - the whole restaurant! The faces are all familiar and we just love this place. Give it a try and you will be glad you did! read more

Miyuki's is consistently the best true Japanese Resturant in the whole county. If you like original food like Yosenaba, Saba and properly handled and cut sashimi, try this place. not the most legit sushi i've ever had, but considering the area it blows the competition away. i came during a dinner service and everyone was ordering cooked foods (tempura, donburi, etc) and i got suspicious. but my nigiri turned out ok. relatively fresh, no fishy smell, nice bite to the meat, flavorful flesh. ambiance is great, and the servers very friendly. 8/10 would come again (if i were ever in the area again...god forbid). read more

Just ok. Sashimi cuts were disappointing and not as fresh as I hoped. The maguro and the tako were both pretty good though. Sushi rolls were more rice than meat. Small place to eat. Mirrors make it appear larger. Would come back but to try the ton katsu but forgo sashimi. Miyuki rocks. Not flashy or trendy or brimming with cutesy-sounding rools. Just damn fresh ingredients in a laid back setting. Crowded most nights of the week and not much parking, but I've never been disappointed. Lived in SF, LA, and HI and I'll take this Watsonville hideaway any day of the week. Ask for the Scallop Dynomite, or have them put together a hamachi handroll with some daikon, cucumber and sprouts. Makes me glad I traded in snooty westside SC for down-to-earth Watsonville.
