Update: We've been enjoying this wonderful place for over 5 years, and have not once been disappointed with our meals. Today we came in for lunch, and a lot of tables were already taken. Our host was very polite and accommodating, there was light music on, and our drink order was taken. The owner Lucinda made herself available for questions about the menu. My partner asks for a special chicken soup flavored with lemongrass that was made for her "delicate" tummy, with added cabbage, that Lucinda had recommended, and has remembered every summer we come here during our travels from Texas. I've ordered different items but keep coming back to sushi/sashimi, and a takeout order of their exquisitely delicious Chicken Curry. We have yet to try Teriyaki anything, or Soba anything, but eventually some years later we might stray from the orders that keep us coming, and will continue to keep us coming! read more

With not many options to eat in this area we decided to go here. The menu is extensive from sushi to hibachi and different kind of soups. I was particularly impressed by the generous portions and the freshness of the ingredients. The sushi rolls were substantial, with large pieces of fresh fish and perfectly ripe avocado. The reason why I gave 3 stars is my Naruto roll was not good it just wasn't tasty at all. However I loved my spicy seafood soup which was well seasoned. I also got hibachi came with shrimp fried rice chicken and steak, salad and soup. I also ordered the eel and avocado roll and Mizuki fashion roll that was also okay. Yeah I won't be returning. My husband and I were patiently waiting for a table for about 15-20 minutes (they do not take reservations) another couple walked in, waived at a server, and walked right over to an empty table. When we asked why they were seated before us, we were laughed at by the staff member. We asked to speak to the manager and they couldn't care less that we were snubbed. We WERE good customers of this place. We'll just go to the Faribault location with better service and a bigger menu. read more

We drove from Minneapolis and Rochester to meet in Owatonna for dinner. We checked out a couple of restaurants downtown, including one that was recommended by a friend from Chicago, and settled on Mizuki. It was an excellent choice. We were able to park on the street right in front of the restaurant. Inside our group of 5 was greeted warmly and promptly. The restaurant looked full but they were able to pull a couple of tables together and we were seated right away. We recognized a few of the wines on the list and started with those and also some Japanese sodas. Next we tried a few appetizers. The pork gyoza dumplings were a favorite. We also had a few rolls and can recommend the Mizuki Fusion roll. It was amazing! For dinner we had Hibachi and Yaki with beef and chicken and the Udon and Soba noodles. Everyone commented on how fresh their food tasted and everyone had more than enough to eat. But we still had room for dessert. The best for us was the tempura banana slices. They just melted in your mouth and were amazingly sweet. We also liked the tempura green tea ice cream and the cheesecake. Deep fried cheesecake was offered but everyone decided to save that for next time. The restaurant was casual but very comfortable. The noise level was perfect. It was busy, but conversation was easy. The staff was attentive and answered any questions we had about the menu. They even took a group photo for us when we asked them. I'm looking at the bill as I'm writing this review. Great pad Thai! Fried rice is not really fried rice, or at least not the kind you'd expect, so I wouldn't recommend that. The beef and chicken are both good though. Also, the spring rolls are amazing!!! My mom had no complaints about the California rolls as well and the price was great. Picking up the food was very startling because of their extreme(!!!) covid precautions in place, just a warning. Some items are on the slightly pricier side, but overall would recommend! read more

I preface this by saying that I typically avoid Asian food because I don't like vegetables. I gave this place a try over a year ago and once again recently. Both times were week days and between typical lunch and dinner times, so they were not busy. It's dimly-lit and quiet. Each time the staff was very friendly and helpful. On my first visit I explained my dislike of veggies and asked if they could make me something with noodles and meat. We agreed on shrimp. They brought me something that seemed to be an improvised pasta alfredo with shrimp. It was very good and I was impressed with their willingness to come up with something for me. On the second visit I had a couple pork dumplings and a bowl of spicey miso seafood soup. I enjoyed it. Just enough heat. Save room for a serving of tempura cheesecake. It's fantastic. read more

The way people have been talking about this place and the 4 1/2 stars on Yelp, I thought I was in for a real treat. The place is tired. Dirty carpet throughout, sticky table tops and missing lightbulbs. We arrived at about Noon and the dining room was half full. Most of the diners appeared to be local business people out for lunch. My lunching companion ordered a Bento Box with Miso soup and I ordered Egg Rolls and Shrimp Curry. The Japanese Egg Rolls were hot and tasty. Not being a fan of overly sweet sauces I opted to eat them with soy sauce instead. Delicious! I had the opportunity to test the Miso Soup. It was bland and not very hot. My dining partner opted not to eat all of the mushy tofu in her soup. I was taken by surprise by the Shrimp Curry. I have eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants, many in Thailand, and I have never had a curry with so much pineapple in it. It made the dish overly sweet. Just very unexpected. I was also surprised by the potato in the curry. The shrimp were overcooked and chewy. My date said the Bento Box was tasty but was pretty unimpressed with the iceberg salad with crushed oranges. I also don't understand the need to have the soap opera on in the dining area during lunch. Wasn't the golf tournament on the other TV enough entertainment? For small-town Minnesota, this restaurant was very good! And believe me, I've had some fantastic Japanese food and sushi, having lived in Hawaii for a year. Menu: Very diverse! Whether you have a picky eater or a person looking for a new gastronomic adventure, here you can find: * Sushi. (maki, sashimi, nigiri) There are all the classic rolls, chef's specials and even sweet potato rolls! * Hibachi. Grilled chicken, steak, shrimp or tofu teriyaki * Thai food. * Lunch specials Value: Very good. At least during lunch, when we visited. For only 7.95 you can get a bento box with miso soup, salad, steamed rice, teryaki chicken, four pieces of california roll AND pot stickers. There are also hibachi lunch specials and a "pick two" or "pick three" sushi roll lunch specials that come with miso soup and salad as well. Food: You can find better sushi if you travel or go to the twin cities, but for the price and the location I give their sushi a thumbs up. The bento box was great, substantial and perfect for the person who cannot make up her mind, and i was drooling over my friend's pad thai as well as a tempura vegetable and shrimp dish that came out. Service: We were greeted promptly, the server was friendly and helpful with our group (most of who didn't quite understand what everything was and had never had sushi before). In a small town like this, I give props to this joint for making a go of it. To be clear I came in with rock bottom expectations. It didn't help when the staff all spoke to each other in Chinese. As I suspected would be the case, any air of authenticity thusly flew out the window. Not that it was a big deal, Like I said, my expectations were pretty low. We were led to a table that had an extremely greasy top. I didn't even want to touch it, to be blunt. It didn't look like any others were in much better shape. The menu appears to have a lot of stuff on it, but if you really look at it you kind of see the same things over and over. Teriyaki this, teriyaki that. I concluded that as far as Japanese food goes, they really don't have much more than the bare bones offering, sushi, soba, teriyaki anything, throw in a little tempura this/that. I had perused their website menu before we came here and already decided I wanted to try the lunch special bento. Teriyaki!!! chicken. It comes with salad, a couple fried gyoza, 4 pieces of maki sushi, cali roll I believe, steamed rice and of course the meat of your choice slathered in teriyaki. My gf got the sushi lunch special. We also ordered the gyoza appetizer. Our meals were brought out at different times. I got mine first, then she got her sushi. This should not have happened as I saw the sushi chef standing around doing nothing well after we ordered(the place was empty except for one other family who did not order sushi). He was watching NASCAR on the wall tv. They also presented us with miso "soup" before we got our meals. This drives me nuts. Miso should come WITH the meal, not before! This happens at practically every "Japanese" restaurant that isn't actually run by a Japanese person. OK this is where my complaining ends. Because it turns out the food there was pretty good. My teriyaki chicken was a bit sweet but otherwise great and generous portion. The salad was just iceberg lettuce but the dressing was yummy. Gyoza, both the steamed app and the fried bento accompaniment were thumbs up. Miso was underwhelming but still good. Rice, was Japanese, not Jasmine so I give them credit there. Everything was good. My gf' sushi were good as well and the cuts of fish were generous. We were both stuffed and the best thing about this was the total bill was under 25 bucks. Great, great value. When I found out about the Japanese restaurant in Owatonna, I was so happy. I just had to try it! It's definitely not the best sushi I've ever had, but it is decent (especially for a small town like Owatonna, MN). They have a large selection of sushi and the chef is creative when serving the food. The spicy tuna hand roll is my favorite and you can never have sushi without miso soup. Prices are reasonable and if you're not in the mood for Japanese, they make Thai food as well, but no Thai iced tea. This place is a must, if living in Owatonna. read more

We didn't expect greatness from the lone sushi joint in Owatonna, MN, but we got some solid sushi for reasonable prices. We ordered 3 rolls which ranged from pretty all right to great. Avo, cuc and asparagus-pretty all right Godzilla roll-good Crispy shrimp tempura roll-deelish! Green tea was really good too, served in nice mugs and refilled throughout our meal. Service was fine, nothing to write home about. Decor was nice-better than I expected after reading a negative review. The finish on the table is pretty bad, but other than that, I thought it was a-ok. I hope this place will still be here on my next visit. I would most definitely return! read more
