Stopped by this place as it was the only breakfast spot offered to us in Creed. Staff was friendly, good served in good time. Atmosphere was plain. Ordered off the breakfast menu. The eggs were a proper medium hard as ordered, the dish came wish sausage patties and hash browns which were on par for what they were. Ordered biscuits and gravy, wasn't impressed, the biscuits were probably frozen, as they weren't fluffy and flakey or crispy on the outside. They were a bit meh. All in all I wouldn't come rushing back for breakfast here, but there's also not many options for places to eat in Creed. read more

Great place to eat breakfast. We come here a lot as we enter town in the morning or if we come late and too tired to cook breakfast the next day. Yes, it's very local ! My husband & I had breakfast there this AM. They have a very limited menu which usually is a good thing however when they can't perfect what they offer!!!!' What's the point? I ordered their "scrambled "which arrived with scrambled eggs, sausage patties & hash browns all separate on the plate! It was to come with cheese, which there was a "hint" of , green chile sauce which I requested on the side! My husband ordered eggs over easy, sausage & crispy hash browns & toast! Stopped for lunch at MJ's Cafe 10 minutes before they closed and they very graciously seated us anyway. The food is all homemade and delicious! We ordered chicken strips, a patty melt, fried mushrooms and a couple of perk tenderloin sandwiches! All of the items were hand-breaded and cooked perfectly! The potato and macaroni salads were very flavorful and the French fries and curly fries disappeared quickly! Service was outstanding! Unfortunately, I have to update this review. However, I do want to state that for the 9 years we have been coming here (2-3 times per year except for last year when our plans changed) my previous review was accurate for most of that time. My last two experiences were progressively worse and the only reason the rating is this high is because I'm averaging in our good past experiences. Our second to last experience was not as good as the others, but was considered a one off at the time. It was the only time we came for breakfast instead of lunch or dinner and the wait was extremely long, the staff had no urgency, and my breakfast was greasy and underwhelming. Our last visit was mid August 2019 and we arrived a little after 10am on a Saturday. We walked in and were smiled at by a lady at the counter who told us to seat ourselves anywhere. We smiled back and thanked her, then discovered all the tables were either occupied or dirty and stacked with dishes. Not too concerned, we went out to the porch and sat at one of the outside tables. After 10 minutes, my husband said he was going to grab a menu for us to look at. I was hungry so I thought this was a fabulous idea until I heard a very stern and condescending voice *yell* at my husband. She was saying "Sir...sir, no! I will be right with you. I...will be...right WITH you." I looked up and saw my husband through the door turn to someone out my line of sight and held up the menu in a friendly way stating we just wanted to look through the menu while we waited. Her voice got shrill and she repeated herself really fast, in a panicked kind of way and tried to tell him that he had the wrong menu. The lady who greeted us originally, came around the counter and handed my husband a menu while rolling her eyes at the other servers antics. By the way, my husband was at the front door picking up a discarded menu, NOT in an employee only area. Not only do I see that menu as fair game, but he only retrieved it after we had been ignored for 10 minutes. I was shocked at her unprofessional tone, it bordered on a tantrum, and I can't believe she wasn't called on it by anyone. Frankly, I thought it appalling to treat any customer that way. When my husband came back, I immediately asked him if he wanted to leave. Though bewildered, he said it was fine and he wouldn't make a big deal out of it and we reviewed the menu...which hasn't changed at all! About 5 minutes later, the shrill server came out with a second menu and a really strong RBF said she wouldn't make us share. I asked if we could order lunch yet, my phone said it was 10:30am at this point. She gleefully told me no with a really inappropriate tone and I decided we had enough. We looked at each other and then looked back at her, then straining to be polite we casually said we didn't want to order and stood up. She passive aggressively put on a fake smile and told us to go do some sightseeing and come back for lunch. Yeah right. We are really patient customers who behave ourselves, are rarely in a hurry and always tip well. We are loyal and return to places we like (been here about 20 times total) especially if they are a small business. However, I am not going to spend money with someone who thinks it's okay to treat us like that and if MJ's thinks they are hiring correctly, well then I guess I'll have to cite irreconcilable differences and permanently end our relationship. read more

It was the best breakfast we've had on this trip. And the total with tax was only $26 and change. If you are fussy and want a fancy breakfast--go somewhere else. It was an OK restaurant. I had eggs with green chilies and hubby had bacon and eggs. Coffee was normal. Seems most coffee is just colored water. Sometimes it's better in places but this was just dark colored water. The server was nice and it was efficient. Restaurants should really make good coffee. Good coffee attracts people. THIS PLACE HAS REALLY SLOW SERVICE. I stopped in on a Sunday and ordered the Huevos Ranchero special for $7.50. I sat outside since it was sunny and breezy. They have stools, picnic benches and small tables outside. Alot of people sitting with drinks and coffee but nobody eating. Many cars in the parking lot so I figured it was good, little did I know they take so long to prep the food, it keeps the customers staying for so long. They must cook one order at a time or something. Food took 1 hour to bring out. For the food, the refried beans were canned, the sausage, eggs and cheese were nothing special. Topped with lettuce and diced tomatoes. The best part was the fried corn tortillas, you get two at the bottom of the dish. A few people were ordering the cinnamon roll and said it was good. We checked in inside, then sat outside on a Sunday morning. They were busy but not slammed. No one ever brought us menus - we had to go get them. We waited half an hour and didn't even get coffee, but saw other tables being served. Once a table freed up inside we moved, saying the kids were cold, but it was more so we wouldn't be overlooked. After being there 55 minutes I asked how much longer it would be. The waitress said she would check and immediately returned with our food, which could be described as warm at best, which makes me think it has been sitting there for some time under a heat lamp. There was never any apology or acknowledgement of our ridiculously long wait, not did she check on us after delivering the food (and forgetting one party of my order) . Unimpressed. As a former wait person myself, things happen, but we were essentially ignored and forgotten. The food was decent or I'd give it one star. I hesitated to say anything at all, but after reading some of the other reviews this seems to be a pattern. They can do better. read more

I can't tell you how the food is because it never arrived. The one star rating is for the lack of service. We walked in and were not greeted. I had to ask if we were to seat ourselves or be seated. We were told to just seat ourselves, which we did. Then after several minutes, I hailed a waitress and told her we were new. We did receive menus. A little while later our order was taken. I also received a cup of coffee. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. My son went inside to let them know we still did not have our food but there was no concern. I observed the waitress refill another customer's coffee but she completely ignored me. We continued to wait, then my son suggested we would be better off grabbing a pastry and walking around town. I said, we've not paid for anything so we up and left. No explanations were given, no apologies, no attempt to stop us. I have never been treated so poorly. read more

Pathetic. Came in this morning and just missed breakfast, which is completely fine. I ended up ordering the grilled chicken sandwich and one glass of orange juice. My sandwich came as just an unseasoned chicken breast and a bun. No LTO, no condiments, no nothing other than the cheap breast and bun. The Potato salad was nothing but potatoes and dressing. The sandwich on the menu is marked as $8.95. Please explain to me why at check out, I was charged $17.79??? Did my small orange juice really cost $10?!?! I didn't care enough to argue, I wanted to get out and in with my day. This was quite possible the worst meal I've ever had at an establishment in my life and absolutely the most overpriced. Does this place overcharge out-of- towners on purpose or was I the millionth customer?? Absolutely pathetic business practices. came into this establishment at 10am for breakfast with the fam. seating was full which was expected but the waiter in the front did not care about telling us what an estimated time it would be to be seated until we asked. after a party got up and left, the same party told us to sit there because the waiter never came back and told us to sit. once seated we waited 20 minutes to be served. we ordered our drinks and food since we had the time, and waited just about an hour just for our drinks to arrive, while the server was going around serving coffee to everyone and chatting with them. we gave them almost another 20 mins for an update on our food which never arrived, at which point we stood up, left a $20 which they didn't deserve, and went on our way. would not recommend this place to anyone besides their regulars i guess. read more

We've had breakfast here two times, a week apart. Extremely pleased both times. The bacon is good but the patty sausage is great! Eggs cooked properly as ordered. Mine OE and hers scrambled. They have sour dough toast and it's very good. The hash browns are very good too. We like salsa on the potatoes and it's good too. We avoid this place on holidays and high tourist season. As Yogi Berra said "nobody goes there, it's just too crowded". Please don't blame them for that. I'd have given five stars but we haven't had lunch there yet so that's an unknown and also it's a little spendy. $24 for two breakfasts with coffee and tip. read more

This is a true small town treasure in Creede, the service is very friendly and the green chili burger hits the spot. It is a true delight for the taste buds. I plan on going back a few more times while I'm in town and exploring more of what they have to offer. I've been told by a few different residents of Creede to have the chicken fried steak and to also try the breakfast. I hope that you enjoy this lovely small town restaurant as much as I have. P.S. Very nice server but that was the only good thing about MJ's Cafe. We came for breakfast at 9:30 and the place was packed and most tables did have food yet. Our food came 40 minutes later and was mediocre and cold. I asked our server to nuke my huevos rancheros and she brought them out a minute later. Food was okay but very run of the mill. They needed another waitress and another, or at least a faster, cook. 40 minutes for breakfast is unreasonable. This is one of two places in town to get a hot breakfast.
