One of the best restaurants in town for Lunch or dinner. We always make it a point to stop by when in town!

Really tasty selection of southern comfort foods. The catfish had a light cornmeal based coating served with homemade tartar sauce. Delicious! Also wonderful was the okra appetizer. My partner had the Bowl of Q (brisket) which was so ample he couldn't finish. read more

The catfish was excellent! However, the fries were hard, thin strings that went cold fast. They had no flavor or soft meat on the inside. The coleslaw had little to no dressing. There are many who rely on the non-meat selections in a restaurant and it escapes me why an establishment would clearly devalue those items. read more

Been going to Lake City for years and finally decided to take a chance and go here for lunch. Glad I did! I had the fried shrimp and added hush puppies. Great! The breading on the shrimp was very light and tasty. Hush puppies were perfect! I even ordered a to go side for a snack for on the way home the next day! Service was also great! read more

Walked in and was asked where we wanted to sit, in or out. We chose out cause it was a nice evening. Kyle greeted us and took our drink order almost immediately. When he came back he noticed the breeze was picking up and told us they would move us inside if it got too windy, which it didn't, but very nice to offer. We ordered and got our food within about 15-20 minutes. Not unreasonable. The food was really tasty. We all got something different to taste around. Their brisket is great. The chicken was great as well. My son got the tenders and they came with a gravy. Wow. No complaints about the whole experience. The chicken and sausage gumbo was so good. I wished we had a giant bowl instead of just a cup. We ordered the chicken fried steak because the server told us how amazing it was and he was not wrong. The serving was huge and it was cooked to perfection. Our daughters had chicken strips which were homemade with the best light breading on them and homemade fries that were served with brown gravy. They loved them and so did we. We enjoyed a cold Coors Light after having driven most of the day and being ready to find the perfect camping spot. This place is very small, with huge flavors and such friendly staff. We arrived in town on a several day car camping trip, it was raining and we needed to eat. I read some reviews and decided this was our best option. We are so thankful we came here, highly recommend it and will certainly return when in Lake City again. read more

I jokingly was calling this place Tender Vittles and I wasn't far off. Nothing inspired on the menu. The only vegetables on the menu were fried. Nothing at all healthy. The fries were laden with grease and inedible. Looking around, all the diners were fat, so that tells you a lot. Skip it, and go around the corner to the Cannibal Cafe or Beny's for far better food. read more

Love this "southern cooking" place! Went there for the "Texas Chicken Fried Steak" and was thoroughly impressed. Ate there a second time and had the Fried Catfish. It was GREAT! Service was prompt and the setting was "rustic" but in such a lovely setting by the park, it was lovely. read more

The staff are among the friendliest we've come across in a long time!! I typically don't get fried shrimp but it was tasty! Very light batter and fresh tasting shrimp. Glad I got it. Good food and nice folks running the restaurant -- really can't ask for much better of a dining experience! My family and I stopped in Southern Vittles on the way to Cinnamon Pass, and it was definitely worth the stop. Their menu is simple and straightforward, but maintains all of the essentials you'd expect. They can crank out takeout fairly quickly, and the quality is solid as well. Additionally they've got a good amount of seating indoors and in picnic tables outside on the deck. The staff is also very friendly and helpful in terms of advising around off-road driving/ OHV usage in the area! They were kind enough to caution us around the conditions of Cinnamon Pass based on the recent weather they'd experienced, and even broke down the details of how far we could get safely. read more

Waitress was nice, food was bland, overcooked, and flavorless. We had the pulled pork sand and chicken tenders. For what it is, the prices are ridiculous. BBQ sauce was more like ketchup and way too sweet. No plans to ever come back here, too bad. read more

The Mrs. and I went there for dinner on a Wednesday evening. They were out of brisket and gumbo. I had the Bowl of Q with a side of fries. The fries were soaked in grease and not crisp at all. Pretty much inedible. The Mrs. had a pulled pork sandwich which was nothing special. We ordered the onion rings as an appetizer and they came out hot and crispy. Unfortunately they were $13, which seemed pricey for onion rings. The service was fast and drink refills were unsolicited. They need to improve their beer selection since other nearby establishments have more choices. Bottom line: this place is nothing special. read more

We were in Lake City for some OHV riding for the weekend and we also enjoyed the festivities in the park put on by the chamber. Southern vittles was right next to the festivities and we decided to have dinner there. Oh gosh the special was the ribs and there were more ribs than two of us could eat... A pound and a half of ribs was on the special... They were smoked and super delicious and the price was very reasonable. Service was fantastic and rather quick actually. Needed lunch after doing laundry. Got a table on the front porch, great view. Our server was great, very nice. The unsweetened sun tea was delicious!! We didn't want much so split the fried chicken strips with fries. Added hush puppies and fried okra. The fries were a little under done but everything else was delicious. And more tea. Great place for food in lake city. Friendly staff and good service. The fries with gravy were out of this world. My catfish was good but not to my preference. It was a little undercooked and the fish was slightly mushy. Again that's my preference. Highly recommend while in lake city. The "sweet tea" was definitely not southern sweet tea but that would be the only negative. read more

I needed a taste of seafood, so we dropped in to Southern Vittles for catfish, shrimp, and some of the sides. The shrimp was prepared like tempura style and was very good, and my catfish had a good batter on it. Hush puppies and fries were delicious and the cole slaw is fresh. Great tasting food I had the Buffalo chicken tenders and my husband had a burger. Also friendly servers.

Folks, our lunch we had was spectacular. A burger, catfish, fries and shrimp is what we ordered. We finished almost all our food. Wait staff was very hospital too. Oh, we had onion rings for the appetizer. Glad we stopped and ate here. Recommend this but I'd say 97% unhealthy! LOL read more

After meeting the owners who weren't the most pleasant I definitely wasn't impressed even though we had spent over $350 & a few days later while stopping at a store we apparently were followed & stalked by the male owner from town to our vacation rental who just skidded to a stop because he was going so fast, got out, threw 2 bags of trash into the yard & proceeded to haul butt throwing rocks & dirt all over the place. It was only women & kids & one tried to walk up to see what was wrong & he proceeded to tell us his trash bin is under 24hr surveillance (yet neither his name or his restaurant are on the bin & we thought we had found the right one for dumping the trash from our vacation rental). Tried to explain it to him & he didn't care. Also told him we had just eaten at his restaurant & his precise words were "I don't give a F$@!" & sped off. Not sure what causes a man to talk to anyone; let alone females, like that or be that hateful. Being courteous & kind are free but eating his food will cost you $350 & sorry it's not impressive. Our vacation rental lady was very kind & came over immediately & helped us out. I definitely don't advise eating at Southern Vittles ever again. read more

Ate there with some great friends. Food was okay but not worth the price. But what really upset me was when I find out the male owner a couple days later stalked & followed my wife and her friend & my kids to the vacation rental to throw trash in the yard & then spun out not wanting to be man enough to explain what his issue was. Find out it was because they accidentally put the trash in his trash bin that wasn't labeled but stated he had 24/7 camera surveillance watching his trash. so instead of being a man & stating that he felt the need to scare them & stalk them across town. One of the popular restaurants in Lake City. The menu has a delicious sandwich selection. Had to try the Saturday, $20 full rack of ribs special with fries, slaw & hush puppies. The ribs are so tender they fall off the bone. I've been told they run out of ribs by Saturday night because they're so good. Highly recomended. read more
