I have met numerous industrial hygienists on sewage, pollutant, trauma/bodily fluid, smoke and fire damage claims. Too many hygienists talk a good game but fail to deliver when it counts. Sol Environmental is better. Sol was recommended to me by a senior entertainment attorney overseeing a large legal team, and that endorsement proved accurate. When I first met with Raul and Nick at Sol Environmental, I immediately recognized their technical depth and concern for the clients. They discussed testing protocols for contaminants that most hygienists overlook or simply don't understand--particularly the volatile organic compounds and particulate matter that pose serious health risks in post-fire environments. When other hygients test for lead and asbestos, Sol is testing for everything: mercuty, silica, arsenic, dioxins, cadmium, barium lithium, you name it in addition to the lead and asbestos. What sets Sol apart is their background as specialty remediation contractors. They don't just identify contamination--they understand the actual remediation process, which makes their protocols far more comprehensive and defensible than what I typically see from competitors. Their protocols meet the standard of care, which is rare in this field. Sometimes I just need good sampling and lab results. But if i need a defensible step by step protocol, Sol is great. More importantly, they're willing to stand their ground when insurance carriers bring in questionable experts pushing junk science to minimize scope and deny proper remediation. Sol backs up their findings with solid scientific evidence and proper testing methodology. In claims where bad faith is already an issue, having a hygienist who won't fold under pressure is invaluable. I've referred Sol Environmental to multiple clients, and they've consistently helped secure the proper remediation my clients deserve. The owner, Ami, presented himself as highly experienced with wildfire remediation and repeatedly warned me that other companies--and even my insurance--would not protect my family. I have two very young children, and I relied on what he told me. Only later did I realize that most online reviews were from people who had phone consultations, not verified wildfire remediation customers. During the project, Ami also told me he was receiving many referrals from my then-State Farm adjuster after I introduced them. Without my knowledge, he brought a public adjuster to my home and was seen on my doorbell camera discussing all the work he received since that introduction. I never consented to my home being used in this way. Haztek initially sent my insurance an estimate over $160,000. After they learned my policy limit was $100,000, the estimate dropped to $84,000, and I was asked for a 50% deposit. I later learned this deposit structure is not allowed for this type of work in California. After work began, contamination increased dramatically. - Initial asbestos levels around 1,000 structures/cm² rose to over 100,000 structures/cm² in the same areas. - Lead levels that were originally within safe EPA limits (one area at 3 µg/ft²) increased to as high as 69 µg/ft² after a chimney sweep. Visible ash remained around the fireplace, in a room labeled as a clean area for furniture. When I asked about the visible ash and the results, I did not receive clear explanations. We failed two clearance tests over two months, each showing higher contamination. While this was happening, extensive demolition occurred, without permits or testing for lead/asbestos despite our home being built in 1974. This included drywall, hardwood floors, cabinetry, tile, and bathroom fixtures. I only discovered it when my doorbell camera showed my toilet sitting on my doorstep causing me to drive home and find total destruction. When I asked why I hadn't been notified, the explanation I received didn't match the dates shown on camera. I was told demolition was due to mold. Two licensed mold companies later performed moisture testing and confirmed there was no moisture problem. The demolition caused major damage to my home. I also have footage of appliances being moved in ways that damaged surrounding floors * Dust/Ash remained on multiple surfaces after work was marked complete. * When I asked what justified their costs being so much higher than companies like Servpro, no specific differences were provided. * PPE usage was inconsistent. When I was present, it was used; camera footage on other days I wasn't showed workers didn't. * Several items labeled "keep" went missing, including irreplaceable baby keepsakes. Smart devices they claimed were non-cleanable later appeared active and used at a different location, with streaming accounts still logged into and used. * Reported work hours didn't match what was captured on camera. Haztek demolished our HVAC closet, which contained popcorn material. No containment was used. I have photos of this material falling into the HVAC system and return ducts. Afterward, asbestos levels in nearby areas tested extremely high. This demolition was not part of the original wildfire or asbestos dust scope. By the time I understood what was happening, our insurance benefits were nearly exhausted, and our home was left with higher contamination and heavy damage. We ultimately discarded nearly all belongings. The impact on our family has been significant. Haztek advertises expertise in asbestos, lead, fire, and mold remediation. When I checked the CSLB website, the listed license showed a general contractor license. I was not able to locate: * A C-22 asbestos abatement license * CDPH lead abatement certification * IICRC fire or mold remediation certification If you are dealing with wildfire or hazardous cleanup, I strongly recommend verifying all licenses with the appropriate agencies, using independent third-party testing, avoiding large upfront deposits, and confirming all scope details in writing. I hope sharing my experience helps someone else avoid what we went through.

MLA Environmental Los Angeles There was a musty smell in my storage closet for about two weeks that the smell seemed to be getting stronger. Decided to have it tested for mold and called MLA Environmental. The technician showed up the same day. Luckily he was also a building inspector and did a through examination. He found the leak was from my back wall and had extended all the way back to my back bedroom closet, hallway wall and side walls of my storage closet. He found active mold way in the back wall hidden behind some shelving. What a shock as I had no idea. The next day he provided a comprehensive mold report and carefully explained what the lab had found breaking down the types of mold and the amount of spores of each. They also provided a protocol to give a mold contractor to follow. With this information in hand I was able to get my place remediated. I would highly recommend MLA Environmental. read more

I called Jeff out to my home which was less than 1/2 mile from burned homes in the Eaton fire. I didn't clean off some windowsills so he could sample. Jeff is an amazing guy and explained everything. We tested for asbestos in the air. We took tests from the soot and couches. I knew I had a small mold issue not from the fires so we had that tested and are getting that remediated by another great guy. I first saw Jeff mentioned on Next Door and then checked Yelp. He writes an extensive report. I'm sure that the labs are inundated but Jeff has kept in touch with me every step of the way. I felt that with what he tested and the written reports and his professionalism it was a great value. I paid directly not getting insurance involved. I hope this helps you in the wildfire areas. Recently purchased a condo and despite having an inspection by a building inspector I found mold in and under my air conditioning closet upstairs. I was fortunate to find MLA Environmental who showed up the same day I called! After doing their inspection they did both an air test and swab test to determine the type and quantity of mold spores I had. The results came back sooner than expected and the lab results were carefully explained to me. Exact diagnostic tracking data, including localized relative humidity levels and digital moisture-meter readings. Yes, humidity over 5k or 60 percent makes mold grow. You need good air circulation as well as good dehumidifiers when you live close to the ocean. Clear photographic documentation with matching room diagrams and structural descriptions. We knew of several areas that absolutely needed testing. And Tim was great in suggesting what areas we might want to test for hidden leaks based on his thermal image readings. He also pointed out where such tests were not needed. What makes this company unique is that they are true, dedicated environmental specialists. Because they literally have the inspection process down to a science and utilize top-notch, highly calibrated equipment, their operation is streamlined. As a result, their pricing was extremely fair and competitive--in fact, their rates were actually lower than some generic, non-specialized home inspectors we looked into. While initially we planned to have 1 company do all the environmental testing, we found it was less costly and better testing to go with specialists rather than "we do it all companies". It was a super-smart decision. We went with Mold Sci (Tim) for the mold testing and a 2nd specialty company for the asbestos and lead testing (Enviro Diagnostics, Costa Mesa). If you are buying a home, selling your home, or managing an estate property, we highly recommend both companies we worked with and would hire them both again. She is going to get the sample to the lab and a full report done for me so that I can take this to an attorney and present my case, in order to file a lawsuit against my building. We weren't sure when our walls were going to be closed up after a remediation project, and we wanted to get a mold test just to confirm that everything was mold free. Our contractor let us know the evening before we called Jason that he was going to begin closing walls the next day, so I called Jason and he was unfazed by me giving him zero notice. If you get his voicemail which instructs you to go to the website to book, it's very easy and user friendly, but I wasn't sure exactly what I needed so I left a message and he called me back in minutes. When I wanted some testing done, the deceptive thing they said was that I can do multiple tests for one price. So I clarified that if I were to test 3 rooms, it'd be the same price as 5 rooms and they said yes. So I literally said to the representative " so whether I test 1 room or 5 rooms, it's one price and she confirmed yes. Lo and behold I get slapped with a charge 5 different rooms. Well I called to clarify, they told me it was one price but per room. I was frustrated because that was my default assumption. It's like going to a restaurant and ordering something and the server says "all pastas are for one price whether you get 1 or 10, it's all one price" and you order 4 pastas for the family and 4 more to go to take home and they slap you with a bill for 8 pastas and tell you it's one price but for each pasta. Well duh! That's everyone's default assumption. You making that qualifying statement serves to confuse the customer. It feels like a deceptive tactic to make it seem like all tests are for one price in order to bait you into more tests. It left a bad taste in my mouth honestly. That being said, the worker was nice and the job was done which why I can average out the score to 3 stars. Would I use them again.... Maybe, but I may shop around a little more.
