After the Palisades fire, I hired Haztek to address light smoke and asbestos dust in two areas of…read moremy home. The owner, Ami, presented himself as highly experienced with wildfire remediation and repeatedly warned me that other companies--and even my insurance--would not protect my family. I have two very young children, and I relied on what he told me. Only later did I realize that most online reviews were from people who had phone consultations, not verified wildfire remediation customers. During the project, Ami also told me he was receiving many referrals from my then-State Farm adjuster after I introduced them. Without my knowledge, he brought a public adjuster to my home and was seen on my doorbell camera discussing all the work he received since that introduction. I never consented to my home being used in this way. Haztek initially sent my insurance an estimate over $160,000. After they learned my policy limit was $100,000, the estimate dropped to $84,000, and I was asked for a 50% deposit. I later learned this deposit structure is not allowed for this type of work in California. After work began, contamination increased dramatically. - Initial asbestos levels around 1,000 structures/cm² rose to over 100,000 structures/cm² in the same areas. - Lead levels that were originally within safe EPA limits (one area at 3 µg/ft²) increased to as high as 69 µg/ft² after a chimney sweep. Visible ash remained around the fireplace, in a room labeled as a clean area for furniture. When I asked about the visible ash and the results, I did not receive clear explanations. We failed two clearance tests over two months, each showing higher contamination. While this was happening, extensive demolition occurred, without permits or testing for lead/asbestos despite our home being built in 1974. This included drywall, hardwood floors, cabinetry, tile, and bathroom fixtures. I only discovered it when my doorbell camera showed my toilet sitting on my doorstep causing me to drive home and find total destruction. When I asked why I hadn't been notified, the explanation I received didn't match the dates shown on camera. I was told demolition was due to mold. Two licensed mold companies later performed moisture testing and confirmed there was no moisture problem. The demolition caused major damage to my home. I also have footage of appliances being moved in ways that damaged surrounding floors * Dust/Ash remained on multiple surfaces after work was marked complete. * When I asked what justified their costs being so much higher than companies like Servpro, no specific differences were provided. * PPE usage was inconsistent. When I was present, it was used; camera footage on other days I wasn't showed workers didn't. * Several items labeled "keep" went missing, including irreplaceable baby keepsakes. Smart devices they claimed were non-cleanable later appeared active and used at a different location, with streaming accounts still logged into and used. * Reported work hours didn't match what was captured on camera. Haztek demolished our HVAC closet, which contained popcorn material. No containment was used. I have photos of this material falling into the HVAC system and return ducts. Afterward, asbestos levels in nearby areas tested extremely high. This demolition was not part of the original wildfire or asbestos dust scope. By the time I understood what was happening, our insurance benefits were nearly exhausted, and our home was left with higher contamination and heavy damage. We ultimately discarded nearly all belongings. The impact on our family has been significant. Haztek advertises expertise in asbestos, lead, fire, and mold remediation. When I checked the CSLB website, the listed license showed a general contractor license. I was not able to locate: * A C-22 asbestos abatement license * CDPH lead abatement certification * IICRC fire or mold remediation certification If you are dealing with wildfire or hazardous cleanup, I strongly recommend verifying all licenses with the appropriate agencies, using independent third-party testing, avoiding large upfront deposits, and confirming all scope details in writing. I hope sharing my experience helps someone else avoid what we went through.

My fiance and I have been living in our new, old home for over a year now. It was built in the 50's but had been remodeled. Since moving in, we began to notice that some of the remodeling wasn't done correctly. What caught our eye in regards to mold was a musty smell under the kitchen sink and water leaking from the dishwasher. There are also small areas throughout the home that show evident signs of old water damage. For peace-of-mind, I decided to reach out to Mold Inspection Sciences. A customer service representative called me back right away, answered all of my questions and gave me information to prepare for my inspection. On inspection day, I met with inspector Ben who was nice, helpful, friendly and most importantly SUPER knowledgeable about all things mold. He had impressive tools to detect moisture and temperature shifts in areas of concern and even pointed out areas I didn't realize were past water damage was hidden by paint. I had chosen the full property inspection, and that's exactly what I got. Ben was a true mold detective from floor to ceiling and inside out. Ben walked me through his initial finds, gave recommendations on how to keep water away from our home externally, and then sent off the air and surface samples I approved to test to the lab. About three days later, I received a 24-page lab report and a 15-page mold inspection report with photos, findings, results, and recommendations. Subject: Feedback on Recent Experience I wanted to share my experience with Mold Inspection Sciences, which unfortunately left me dissatisfied. The appointment was rescheduled three times due to staffing issues, which caused me to lose time and income as I had to rearrange work to be available. While I understand occasional challenges, three delays was excessive. When we received the test results (negative), we had concerns about their accuracy--especially since our photos showed visible mold. The owner agreed to re-test based on the images I sent, but I received no follow-up for over a month. I had to initiate the next steps myself. I was quoted a lower rate for the re-test since it was a follow-up, but when the technician arrived, we were asked to pay the original full price. I tried to clarify the discrepancy, but the technician said the manager was unavailable. After the sample was taken, I received an email with a recording of our call, stating the lower quote didn't include the lab report. I ultimately declined the test due to my concerns about pricing transparency and communication. Despite this, I was billed the full amount. After disputing it, I was told I still owed $228 for the technician's visit and sample collection--charges I am paying under protest to avoid credit consequences. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this company. Communication was inconsistent, service was disorganized, and I was left questioning the reliability of the testing itself. Firstly, their office is very rude on the regular so get ready for that. And this should have been my first red flag. They came to test my house but when the report came out they attributed the mold growth to a localized water event that occured 2 months after the damage in question was documented. So the timeline does not match at all. And it doesn't make sense that a one room small leak that wa remediated the same day caused 1/2 the walls to now be infected with mold and at the opposite side of the house. This is not humanly possible. I asked for a refund because what can you do with a $1100.00 report like this? nothing. it is unuseable and embarassing to them. They asked me to cut of 1/2 the reoport and just use the culture sample results. Well I am not going to cut your report into 2 pieces and I now don't have confidence in the samples that were taken. Obviously, the report is inaccrate and this casts a shadow on the rest of the work. Still no refund though. Don't go to these guys, its not worth it. read more

She is going to get the sample to the lab and a full report done for me so that I can take this to an attorney and present my case, in order to file a lawsuit against my building. We weren't sure when our walls were going to be closed up after a remediation project, and we wanted to get a mold test just to confirm that everything was mold free. Our contractor let us know the evening before we called Jason that he was going to begin closing walls the next day, so I called Jason and he was unfazed by me giving him zero notice. If you get his voicemail which instructs you to go to the website to book, it's very easy and user friendly, but I wasn't sure exactly what I needed so I left a message and he called me back in minutes. He walked me through my options and then gave me a fair price for the services I needed that was on par with other vendors I reached out to. Other vendors who weren't available same day. ;) Jason arrived quickly on a Friday, was very kind and knowledgeable and explained what he was doing, and then turned our results around by Monday so we could proceed with closing all of our walls. I hope we don't need to worry about mold in the future, but, if we do, Jason will be the first person we call!

Great company and first time using them. Kent was in the…read moreoffice and was able to setup testing the next day to get the ball rolling. He was also very helpful with random questions I had and other tid bits of knowledge about asbestos. Jay (my tech) was informative and thorough when taking samples and images of the areas. He was able to answer questions I had while he was taking samples. Both were professional and friendly. The lab team got me my results back in a timely manner with all the details.

When I wanted some testing done, the deceptive thing they said was that I can do multiple tests for one price. So I clarified that if I were to test 3 rooms, it'd be the same price as 5 rooms and they said yes. So I literally said to the representative " so whether I test 1 room or 5 rooms, it's one price and she confirmed yes. Lo and behold I get slapped with a charge 5 different rooms. Well I called to clarify, they told me it was one price but per room. I was frustrated because that was my default assumption. It's like going to a restaurant and ordering something and the server says "all pastas are for one price whether you get 1 or 10, it's all one price" and you order 4 pastas for the family and 4 more to go to take home and they slap you with a bill for 8 pastas and tell you it's one price but for each pasta. Well duh! That's everyone's default assumption. You making that qualifying statement serves to confuse the customer. It feels like a deceptive tactic to make it seem like all tests are for one price in order to bait you into more tests. It left a bad taste in my mouth honestly. That being said, the worker was nice and the job was done which why I can average out the score to 3 stars. Would I use them again.... Maybe, but I may shop around a little more.
