Then one of their specials, the Medium Lavender Matcha Latte w Macadamia Milk, caught my eye and I decided to try it out. The matcha isn't high-quality and sadly the lavender was a little too subtle for me. After a couple of sips, I could barely taste it. The macadamia milk actually added a nutty sweetness which I enjoyed but I wonder if that muted the lavender taste. This cafe is quite small but there are a handful of tables if you prefer to enjoy your drink inside. If I'm back in the area, maybe I'll stick to my original plan and try their coffee drinks. read more

Five stars for having a ramp on entry! Staff were nice and helpful. I first tried MOA from their Woodside location. Been meaning to checkout this original spot. They currently have a seasonal menu. I ordered an iced taro latte and a cheddar scone. The drink was refreshing during this summer heat! All pastries are from Balthazar Bakery. Sadly they do not have a toaster to heat up the scone so I waited until I got home to heat up and munch on. read more

How have I never reviewed Moa before? Probably the best coffee in all of Astoria. It's pricier than other nearby options, but the taste of the coffee and espresso drinks here are notably superior to others in the area, so whatever, take my money. Service is always swift and friendly. It honestly seems like a fun place to work. Baristas are always in a good mood which I love to see. Maybe it's all the caffeine? In addition to the staples they have seasonal drinks that are delicious. I'm a big fan of their turmeric latte and pumpkin spice. The rewards program they have makes the price hurt a little bit less, so be sure to enroll. This isn't a coffee shop that I'd necessarily sit and do work at since seating is extremely limited (like there's maybe one table with two chairs and a bench). If you have work to get done, go post up at Cafe Renis up the avenue. read more

Yato is going to put you guys on. This spot is legit. Yato thinks all chais in Astoria suck. Rather drink gasoline from a rusted tin can then get another chai from Kinship or Brooklyn Bagel. Today was the first time I actually went inside and it was just to see if they had a blueberry muffin for my dog Penelope. Granted I should have opened the bag but if someone asks for a blueberry muffin, it SHOULD'T be a crumble blueberry muffin and even if you are located on 30th Avenue, $5.75 is A LOT for a muffin that honestly wasn't even moist. I enjoyed coming here for the past two years. The chai and pastries are delicious, and they sell macadamia nut milk and oatmeal for takeout. The staff is wonderful -- friendly, smart, extremely competent, and funny. Unfortunately, they did not value their outstanding barista, Kiialeah. She set the tone for the cafe and created a home away from home for her customers. So, I was shocked to learn that she was let go because of a spoiled, rude customer, despite evidence from other customers who backed her up. For those of us who love the neighborhood and who work from home, these places are not just about drinks and pastries. They are a place for friendly conversation and social connection. The owner needs to realize that the way they treat employees is every bit as important as the quality of the food and service. read more

The baristas were friendly behind the bar. A casual shop with limited seating and space. There weren't too many options for food/pastries as far as I saw, although there was a refrigerated section in front. Limited menu. I opted for an Americano which was great, not burnt and about right. No bathrooms as it's a small shop where you can hear everyone's conversations, so be aware if you need privacy. Overall, it is a nice cozy shop on the outskirts of the main roads. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Indoor dining and takeout available. Good for working with wifi and outlets. Limited seating. I order the oatmilk coffee on tap, as he was pouring it he realized it was running out and offered to make me another drink no additional cost. So I got to take the on tap and caramel latte. Got a cold brew and oat milk iced latte for the first time. I really enjoyed my latte and the coffee wasn't too sour or too roasted. It was just right in my book. The barista was really friendly and I love their jokes on their front board by the door. I got a regular hot latte with their caramel crème, was pleasantly surprised that the flavor was actually cheaper than what was on the board. The person behind the register was super kind. The coffee was good if you like a more rich/less bitter taste, I loved it. The atmosphere is great for working or reading, veryyyy small but cozy. Cute little coffee shop I wanted to explore in Astoria. Due to the pandemic, indoor seating is not allowed so they covered much of the shop with tables, for us to basically order and then pick up. I ordered my go-to cafe drink which is an iced oat milk latte and it was the perfect ratio of milk and espresso. It was not overly milky or bitter. My brother ordered an iced mocha latte and you definitely can taste the chocolate with the latte. Would definitely come back again. Fun fact: Moa was a land bird, similar to an ostrich but bigger that once existed in New Zealand. Unfortunately once people arrived to the land they eventually declined due to habitat destruction and hunting... leading to their extinction. read more

My gf and I found this place on New Years eve. We were heading home to get ready for the night and all we wanted was a cup of coffee. Most places had already closed but our eyes lit up seeing Moa's lights on and a girl working. We ordered an ice almond latte and a mocha. The girl working there said they only recently opened, I was so happy we decided to walk home on 30th. We were just looking for a coffee but got two really tasty treats instead. My ice latte seemed pretty perfect, the right amount of ground, right amount of water through the portafilter, pressure etc and the almond milk mmm mm mmm. I'm going to have to take some classes on how to describe coffee better than delicious. The ice almond latte was delicious. Not bitter not too much milk not bland like eh ok it was really good and I enjoyed every sip. My gf's mocha was also tasty. We try each others coffees all the time i've tried a bunch of the mochas she's gotten and the mocha from Moa best i've tasted. The decor is pretty nice too, dark and cozy. I live in the hood and enjoy going to this small cafe when I feel like having different coffee than my home machine's. I find La Colombe's latte recipe is too milky for me so I order flat white whenever I visit here. But one thing, I'm always told there is no iced flat white and they can only do iced cortado. I have to explain I can't taste espresso enough from their latte so I want flat white to be iced. And this time what they made was iced cortado which was far from what I wanted. A lovely neighborhood gem! This spot is so cozy and the staff is always friendly. They really don't mind if you want to hang out and work there for a while. I love that they have free wifi, La Colombe on tap, and play a Lo-fi Hip Hop playlist so people can tune out and work. They also serve an array of alternative milks including Oatly! The pastries and bagels are also delicious when you need a little pick me up. Only downside is that people often sit and smoke on the bench outside, which seeps into the cafe. I really wish they would put a "no smoking" sign outside because the last thing I want to breathe is cigarette smoke while I'm trying to enjoy my coffee and pastry. read more
