Promptly after writing this review, I was contacted by Ted from the store, who assured me this is not the way they do business. He agreed to meet me at my office, repair the phone at his shop, then return it me. And the best part; because of my troubles, Ted told me I shouldn't have to pay a dime. I firmly believe in second chances. When a business does the wrong thing, it's nice to see them take responsibility and correct their actions. The trackball fell out of my BlackBerry. Of course, as a girl, the guy I'm into had just texted me, and I couldn't open it. I was freaking out and anxious. I signed on yelp, typed in, "BlackBerry trackball" and this came up first. I dialed the number and the guy gave me the address and I jumped on the 38. I walked in and Andrew fixed my phone. It took him literally 30 seconds. My phone was fixed. He said it was the most common BlackBerry problem, especially with my 8330 model. He was super kind and friendly. It was $39 which was more than what was quoted on the phone and what I read on yelp. It seemed semi-steep, but my phone works and it was a good quick fix! Well what can I say about this place?.....only that is the best place to get anything done if you have an iPhone... My 1st experience my iPhone 3G had a short circuit in it and it shut down would not load the home screen after redrafting it 1300 times so I went to mobile kangaroo and see if they could help the had to restore and re- unlock my phone after they did it was working perfectly fine a few hrs later I could not receive picture messages so I had to go back and see to see if they could fix it for me, they spent like an hr until they fixed it (with no charge!!) and just recently i got a a new iPhone and had the same problem and they were super helpful and they did not send me on my way till they fixed it, there awesome!! read more

If you read my review of AT and T in Westlake you know I've been crazed all weekend without my Blackberry. While without the Blackberry, I had to rely on Outlook for all my contacts. Well somehow I managed to delete half my contacts! After 3 hours at Cosmic Computers, David told me that the data could not be recovered. So the only place my data was in was in my old broken Blackberry, the one I am supposed to return to Cingular within 10 days. So I go here as they are supposed to be cell phone repair specialists and also adept at data recovery. I go in, he takes the old Blackberry, and the new Blackberry and 45 mintues later and $45 later, my new Blackberry has the EXACT info the old one had, down to the old texts that I had not erased and my speed-dial list! So the store is not the neatest or coolest and in the 45 minutes there, the phone never rang once and no one else came in. I wonder how they pay their overhead??? Oh well, whatever they are doing, keep it up, I would hate for them to close shop for lack of business, they are awesome!!! read more

I have waited a long time to write this review because I wanted to wait until I was finished with my experience of this business. Overall I would recommend that you take your cell phone repairing needs somewhere else. The people that work here are the most incompetent and unreliable people I have ever dealt with. It all began with a simple cracked screen on my BlackBerry and turned into a nightmare of endless unreturned phone calls and visits to the store that left me completely dissatisfied. I could never get a straight answer from Dave, the tech, and the other employees that work there. After fixing the screen, my phone came back with an unusable trackpad. I quickly went back to the store to get this fixed and finally after 3 months I got my phone back today. The only reason it got fixed is because it seems that Dave, was fired. This can only mean better things for the store, but the new person in charge, Vu, is not much better. These guys do not know what they are doing and how to treat customers. I hope I never have to go back to this store that is recommended by AT&T. Please take your phone somewhere else and save yourself the headache. read more

These guys blow chunks. They overcharge for easy unlocking services that cost them nothing, and they think they are some kind of mobile phone Gods. I left two easy Samsungs and an LG phone with them to have unlocked. Leave it for a day they told me, and they guaranteed they could do it. Came back next day to nothing but feeble excuses. They told me they didnt have the equipment/knowhow after all. Thanks for the waste of time. Took the phones to an Asian shop that had all three unlocked in less than 15 minutes for HALF of what these kangaroo clowns wanted. Save your money. RUN dont walk away from this place. After nearly 45 minutes on the phone with At&t and RIM/Blackberry about my Curve that I had dropped at the bar, track ball falling out to not be found again ... I found Mobile Kangaroo here on Yelp, called them, asked if they could fix it, and I was in and out of the joint in 5 minutes. At&t was going to make me buy a new phone...$199 +tax. RIM was going to charge me $190 to send the phone to them and have them replace the trackball. Yes ... nearly $200 to fix something that the nice guy at Mobile Kangaroo fixed in 5 minutes for $50. The reason Why 5stars is because I didn't know that my girl friend shatters my iphone screen glass when she dropped it in a tennis court floor. I found the receipt for this location about a week ago and she got my iphone fixed within the same day and I never new about it. She payed a good price becuase she used the yelp coupon, but then I confronted her and she said sorry. I came into the store this last Saturday and Ted, who was running the store at the time tried to sync my contacts from a lousy old motorola q to an iphone. He wasn't so lucky and couldn't figure out how to make it work. He wanted to take more time with it, but I was rushed, so I had to leave. My iPhone screen had some major cracks in it from dropping it. I initially brought it in to the Apple store. Total rip-off! So then I tried to fix it myself, and almost had it! Unfortunately, there was one place I got hung up, and it didn't work out the way it should have. Luckily I was able to bring it here and have it repaired for much, much less. Calvin is teh bomb. He's a 20 year old tech wunderkind who's part owner of mobile kangaroo. Meanwhile, I'm a 31 year old unemployed bum who's currently living off leftover pizza. But I digress. I took my phone in to get it unlocked. Calvin quoted me on the phone, took in the phone, unlocked it, honored my voucher, and gave me really useful tips on using my phone overseas. After I cracked my iphone screen, I can here to get it fixed upon recommendation from a friend. Charles was super knowledgable and friendly, and he fixed my phone up as good as new, that very the same day. He even played me some great music while I waited! UPDATE ON 1/19: I started having some issues with the screen after a few days, so I called Charles. He knew exactly what the problem was and said he was happy to look at it that same night. Great customer service. I called around to a few outfits in town to gauge prices and hours. The going rate for a camera glass replacement on a Samsung S5 was around $50. Hours seemed to hover around 6-7pm close time. The repair individual at Mobile Kangaroo - perhaps named Charles? - explained what needed to be done and how long it would take. Once there, it's a very small shop on a somewhat dicey stretch of the Tendernob at night. He has a family but was willing to stay a few minutes past 7pm to complete the fix. I even asked him some advice on my next new phone purchase. He offered to repair the glass if the work turned out to be shoddy. There's something about this business that I just inherently trust. Use the Yelp discount. Highly recommended! read more

Just a few days before leaving to San Francisco I dropped my phone and broke the screen. I had ordered the screen and since I have Prime(amazon), got it just before leaving. I went to this Mobile Kangaroo to try to get the screen replaced but this place was kind of awful. When we got there the guy was in the back and yelled for us to a wait a little bit, and we did. He came out and I told him what I needed, but he said he did not have the screen, I told him I had one with me that he could use. He then quoted me $89 (using my screen), but then all of a sudden decided he couldn't do it. He didn't do as much as checking out the phone to see what needed to be done. I wasn't happy and... what exactly are you doing there if not fixing phones? whatever, I don't live in San Francisco, I will never need this place's services again. read more

I was very impressed by Calvin. I had emailed them about my cracked phone screen and they said to stop by so they could verify the model and order the right part. I stopped in 10 minutes before closing a few days later, thinking they would look at it for 2 minutes and then I'd have to come back. Calvin had already ordered the part and had me good to go in 20 minutes. Upate: I had a question that I wasn't able to satisfactorily answer myself online. My iPhone had some water damage. You probably don't care how, but I'll tell you anyway because it was so ridiculous. When I run on the treadmill at the gym, I put my phone in the cup holder. On this particular day, there was some water at the bottom of the cup holder that I hadn't noticed until ten minutes into my workout. It was a TINY bit of water too, but I guess that was enough for it to mess up my phone. An hour or two after, my phone started overheating and then shut off. The charger wouldn't even plug all the way into my phone! I was distraught. I'm a broke student and could NOT afford another iPhone, new or used! My contract wasn't going to be renewed for another year too. I definitely didn't want to go back to my old Blackberry either.... I mean, after you switch to a touch screen phone you can't go back to that outdated trackball! Anyway, I thought all hope was lost. I told Ted what happened to my phone, and he said it was probably had something to do with the charging port. I don't know exactly what was wrong with it, but Ted did and that's all that matters! As much as I wanted to like these guys, they botched a simple glass replacement - didn't adhesive it back on correctly. Mine just fell off a week after they replaced it. Snapped the ribbon cable as the glass came loose right out of my pocket. Didn't even drop it. The storefront is ghetto, the kids that work there seem like stoner rejects and obviously do that kind of work. Lack attention to detail and aren't that personable to work with in the first place. Utter failure, they should just close the SF store. Bottom line: It's better to use one of the guys offering those services on craigslist. read more

Louie helped me out with my computer trackpad, which was intermittently malfunctioning and preventing me from using my computer at all. Apple support connected me with Mobile Kangaroo and I chose them because they had several appointments the following day (unlike the Apple store, which had nothing for many days). Louie greeted me and immediately got to work, identified the problem within seconds, and gave me my options. He went in the back, adjusted some part of my computer, cleaned out the dust, and voila, my computer was back to normal! Louie was super friendly, patient and understanding. Excellent service. Mobile Kangaroo did what I paid them to do...got my broken phone back to me fixed, and in 2 days. Walking in the tiny shop my first impression was that is was a couple of dudes hanging out, working on projects except the projects were fixing peoples' busted phones. They were cordial, placed my part order promptly in order to make the 4pm cutoff for overnight delivery from the east coast, and were not rude or short with me when I came back in a few times to check on the status of the situation...I had to do that b/c I didn't have my phone to receive a call or text (duh). 4 stars vs. 5 is probably being a bit picky. I like people who are outwardly friendly and make you feel like they've got your back from the start even if they can't guarantee when a part will arrive. I was left unsure initially but each time I visited the shop I had a good experience which built trust and ultimate appreciation. And again, I got my phone back repaired in about as little time as I could have hoped for. Sadly, that f'ing device is my life (both work and social) so it was a big pain in the ass to not have it for a 2.5 days. Thank you, Andrew, Calvin and the other guys for getting it done as painlessly as possible. I'll surely be back if the need arises and I will recommend you to others. read more

I dropped my phone on the side walk, shattered the screen. The shatter wasnt actually too bad, just happened to be right at the area in which you place the phone on your face to make a call. I Went to mobile kangaroo to have it replaced because it is close to Union Square (where I work), affordable, and I had a yelp deal. One major problem arose. After they repaired the screen the LCD lights flickers and strobed so much that it probably could have caused epileptic seizures. I brought it back, they fixed it explaining sometimes, just like with any other product, you get defective merchandise. I was assured it was just defective merchandise and that my phone would no longer flicker. After a few days, the screen began flickering again (something it hadn't done pre or post shatter). I didn't bring it back, didn't trust it would be fixed. I ended up buying a new phone when my contract expired a few months later. read more

Mobile Kangaroo is MORE expensive than the Apple Store FYI. It's selling point is that they will give you a loaner phone while the screen gets repaired. You also might get the phone repaired faster? The Apple Store can take 2+ hours if you walk in. This place may be good if you're phone is straight up unusable and cannot wait at all. But, if you can wait a few hours you're probably better off going to the Apple Store. read more

I broke the screen of my Android phone. I brought it to Mobile Kangaroo because they were close to where I live and well-reviewed on Yelp. They told me that they needed to order the part, but they expected to have it in a few days. Four days later, I called to get an update on when my phone would be ready. The guy assured me they would call the supplier to check on the part and get back to me. I never got a call back. After 10 days of waiting, I went in and got my deposit refunded and my phone back. I took the phone to Citicomm Wireless in SOMA who repaired my phone in 24 hours. Don't waste your time with Mobile Kangaroo. read more

WHY WOULD YOU SPEND MONEY TO LET OTHER PEOPLE TO DESTROY YOUR PHONE? the guy, Calvin, who work in the store, supposed to fix my cracked screen, destroyed my whole phone. First, the new screen was as sensitive and my speaker wasn't working, so i sent it back. Without contacting me at all since the last time i called, I finally got the time to call him back 2 weeks later. I asked why he never call me back if my phone is fixed already. His answer was "I'm the only guy working in the store. I'm busy." That is definitely not the answer he should give to any costumer. After i got my phone, but then i realized my phone is FxxKing not functioning at all. NOW, there's no vibration, terrible speaker, and bad sensitivity screen.
