I was looking forward to booking with NVP but I've ultimately decided against it. I've been very…read morenervous to see a psychiatrist because of fears of judgement and not being understood. I've been struggling with debilitating mental health issues for a year now and was ready to take control of my life. After I called the office the woman who answered me was very dismissive and patronizing towards me. I generally understand how my health insurance plan works but I still wanted to verify the details. Every time I've gone to a doctor's office I was told the amount I'd have to pay upfront before I schedule and am able to see the doctor. The woman told me they don't do that (verifying insurance details) and to call back when I figure it out and was quite eager to get me off the phone, treating me as if I had asked her something completely absurd, irrational, and uncommon. I was only referring to the amount I needed to get in the door, I can handle any bills sent to my address at a later time, I just needed to budget everything so I could seek treatment. I understand that doctors and other medical staff deal with a lot of patient abuse and harassment and I'm empathetic to the fact that it's not an easy trade to be in, hence why I haven't and still never disrespect, argue with, or harass healthcare workers, but regardless--when dealing with mentally ill individuals in a health care setting there has to be a level of empathy when communicating and treating them, especially because a good portion of patients seeking psychiatric treatment have a history of being bullied, abused, neglected, and/or experienced psychological abuse at one point in their lives--if not their entire lives. Her snarky tone towards me as well as her eluding to me being unreasonable and unintelligent by asking about insurance details and upfront payment felt like a 3 minute humiliation ritual.

Stephen Larson is a liar. I was admitted to Thunderbird Hospital with a 12mm stone and septic. I…read morehad emergency surgery and Stephen Larsen and his staff before surgery had asked if I had questions or concerns. I stated I have had a stent in the past and it's hard to do anything and how long would I need to have the stent. Stephen Larsen promised me I would be back in two weeks to blast the stone and take the stent out. So today I get a call from the surgical scheduling team and they stated they couldn't get me in til September 30. I asked why and they stated Stephen Larsen is on vacation and this is all they could do. I stated I was in extreme pain and discomfort and I am having a difficult time at work due to the pain. She came and stated this is all we have and we can bring you in for an appointment. Again I was told only two weeks and it would be taken care of. After surgery no one from the team went and talked to my family or me. Then I was admitted due to being septic so the nurse called their office to let them know and they stated oh well we have signed off on her and to deal with it. Seriously my infection and my high fever was due to the 12mm stone. Their office staff are rude and have no manners like Stephen Larsen he has no bed side manners at all. I would highly recommend not going to this office period. I have a stent and a 12mm stone still in my kidney and in serve pain and they don't give a crap about their patients.

I explained my situation and the office was nice enough to give me a huge discount for paying cash up front. He was personable and knowledgeable, but most of all, my visit did not feel rushed! I look forward to keeping him as my PCP.
