"You are giving Nina the most difficult gift that you have ever given." When it came time for my youngest son to say goodbye to his beloved Ryker, we didn't hesitate to call Gentle Farewell. Unfortunately, we did not have the same comforting experience. Dr. Parker was not unkind, but we certainly didn't connect with her glowing testimonials on the website. All 5 of us present, found her to be competent, but clinical and a bit rushed. Maybe she was having a bad day, but we certainly weren't left with the same feeling of empathy as the first experience.

I had initially given them 5 stars, so I will simply revert to that with the understanding that I have not had any animals seen at Gateway in a few years. It was never a matter of not caring enough- all of my encounters reflected a staff of people who were very dedicated to the care they were giving. And no, I wasn't pressured in any way to change my review. It's important to me to be as accurate and fair as possible. I am just now reading the response from Gateway, as I don't use Yelp often, so I am updating my review based on the new information. Previous Review: We went to Gateway for several years for our dogs. They had good pricing and the staff was friendly, competent, and clearly passionate about the work they did. These qualities can be really hard to find... especially the combination of reasonable pricing and competent, passionate care. I gave Gateway a 5-star rating when I first reviewed them 8 years ago. The problem is the walk-in only nature of the practice, paired with significant changes in how Gateway is run. I suspect that they may have been sold to equity investors or similar schemes that ultimately destroy so many good vet practices, but I am not sure. Before covid even showed up, I found myself avoiding taking the dogs to the vet because I couldn't handle sitting and waiting for HOURS every single time. Didn't matter if I showed up before they opened- the line was already long. I am physically disabled, so sitting for hours in their waiting room had a physical cost in addition to the fact that most people don't enjoy waiting for long periods of time. The last time we went, we were told to cue up outside more than an hour before opening to even have a shot at being seen that day. It was absolutely horrible having to stand in the freezing cold for so long, our sick dog waiting with us. Despite being this early, we weren't ultimately seen until mid day. It isn't even a first come first served situation. They aren't primarily an emergency vet yet they triage. So you'll be sitting there watching so many go ahead of you unless your pet is experiencing a medical emergency. This seems like a reasonable approach on paper, but unfortunately it means that a visit to Gateway requires me to clear my schedule for the entire day and that just is not reasonable. It also isn't fair to the animals- especially if they're sick or otherwise frail. The people who founded Gateway are long gone, as is the wonderful service they provided. If you're desperate to have your pet seen (and you can manage to show up first thing in the morning and wait several hours to be seen), maybe it's a good fit for you. Otherwise keep looking.

On top of this, today we received a sympathy card from them that contained wildflower seeds that we can plant in her memory. So touching! What a classy thing to do. Lastly, I wanted to mention how appreciative we are that, unlike most other veterinary services who will gouge you for the same service, their pricing is reasonable. They don't take advantage of you in your time of need.

Were seen with a very short waiting period. She had a fever and Upper Respiratory Infection. She was given an antibotic shot and fluids. The staff there are all excellent from the Front desk, to Marc the vet assistant and and Dr. McHenry. Were very pleased with our visit and the care they gave to our cat along with very reasonable costs. Also received a follow up call on Tuesday from them to inquire how Marsha was doing and as she recovered very quickly and was back to her normal self by Sunday.

I trusted this clinic with my sick dog, and they treated her with such carelessness and lack of compassion. During her visit, my dog was dropped while already in a fragile condition. The IV placement was handled so roughly that she was cut so deeply she had scars on her skin. Watching someone treat an already suffering animal, MY best friend this way... was heartbreaking. We were told her bloodwork, and samples would be back in 1-3 days, and based on that information they placed her on the maximum dose of pain medication and sent us off with the bill. When we asked reasonable questions about whether this could become a recurring issue, the vet gave what felt like a completely dismissive and patronizing response, reducing our concerns to, "Cancer is bad," and explaining what cancer is instead of addressing our actual questions. We weren't asking for a textbook definition... We were asking about our dog's future. After four days of complete silence, we had to call because our dog's condition was rapidly worsening. She was in obvious pain, losing weight, unable to eat, the mass was growing quickly, and she had started urinating on herself without the ability to even keep her head up. Only then were we told that the results would actually take closer to 1-2 weeks completely contradicting what we had originally been told. 1 week after still hearing nothing, we called again looking for answers. Instead of concern for our dying dog, we were told we needed to pay more money and that our bill for the tests was due. Even though we had already paid around $480 at the visit, for that testing and treatment. The lack of communication was unacceptable. The lack of urgency was unacceptable. The lack of empathy was unacceptable. At no point did anyone reach out to check on our dog or keep us informed. We spent days desperately chasing updates while watching her deteriorate. Whether the lab was delayed or not, the clinic's communication, professionalism, and compassion were entirely within their control, and in my experience, they failed on every one of those fronts. I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone. Based on my experience, I would never trust them with another animal. TO PET OWNERS - As my dog was pleading for help, scared and unable to understand what was going on with her, VCA failed us. Please do not take your best friend to this clinic. You will lose them.

They made an extremely difficult process so much easier by their kindness. Riley passed on so peacefully and we couldn't be more grateful. During his decline we tried several medical interventions to give him more comfort and they called and followed up multiple times to see how he was doing. I'm happy with the care, and double-happy with the price! And my cat is pretty satisfied too, all things considered. They only thing keeping BAH from a 5-star rating is the wait time. Because of the length of time they spend with each animal, and the fact that they are anxious to accommodate emergency visits, you should plan to spend extra time waiting...but it's worth it!

I had been going there for 10 years and never had any issues at all. Recently, I brought my dog in to have his nails Dremelled. When they brought him out, I noticed the nails on his hind feet had been clipped, and were sharp and rough. I asked them if they would go back and Dremel them a bit more so they would be smoother. (They said they had Dremelled them.) I was not rude in the slightest. When I went to pay my bill, the receptionist, Ali, had just come from the back and had clearly spoken with the young vet tech who was working with my dog. The receptionist had a huge chip on her shoulder and was beyond rude to me even to the point of flinging my credit card at me. Not only was she extremely rude, but they charged me again to Dremel my dog's nails, because she said it took additional time. I remained matter of fact, had no reaction other than to ask why I had to pay twice, and paid the bill. I was totally flabbergasted at what had just occurred. I didn't understand it. There was nothing I did whatsoever to provoke the nastiness and the attitude, except to ask them to Dremel the dogs nails a bit more so they were smooth. The next thing I know, I received a letter in the mail saying that we were no longer clients of the Chagrin Animal Clinic. I swear to G-d, I'm not exaggerating and I'm not making this up! I'm curious if others have had issues with the staff there. I'm also wondering if anybody out there knows the name or has any information about the corporation that bought the Chagrin Animal Clinic. Our German has had digestive issues for years and he is on the skinny side. Dr Lubenger took the time to sit with us to truly figure out a plan to help our dog. Dr Lubenger narrowed it down to the food we were giving our dog. The Doc suggested a prescription dog food and since that point, he has been great!!! She was the only one that didn't just offer medications to make more money from the diagnosis but actually treat our dog. Well-done Dr Lubenger!!! Dr Lubenger is extremely accessible and compassionate person! The front desk staff, Elliott and Ally are super kind and welcoming. They truly care about your pets and you as a pet owner.
