I'm super sorry to leave this review. I would never go back to this place. If they paid me twice not only was the food. Horrible service was outlandish. Never have I experienced such dysfunction. They left us without ( Service ), water. They didn't bring our food for an hour and a half perhaps they even gave our food to another table. The table next to us said that they have no idea what's going on, their regular server was not there, they need a lot of help I know it's hard in the restaurant business. Have been here a couple of times on our trips to Santa Barbara. We were actually headed to sea food bar next door but we decided to come here instead. Plenty of tables and staff is nice. Very nice views of ocean and coast. My wife and I had good time on "date" alone from kids. Would recommend. OK for families. read more

Skip this place. Food was eatable but that's it. We got the "catch of the day" fresh snapper on fish tacos, looked good but entire meal was super bland, luke warm, nothing special at all: a few avocado slices, fish and cabbage. Do not go to this tourist trap. SB local here, I grew up going to this restaurant as a child. It was awesome back then, but I recently returned. It has gone down so hard, it has lost all its class. Flavor of the food went down, clam chowder wasn't as good as Brophy Brothers or SB Shellfish Company. Service was so poor. Server judged me for being hispanic, and made me wait for a menu for who knows how long...I had to nag the waiter to give me my drink order, and after receiving my disappointing fish entree they never followed up. Food was not worth the price. Ambiance was old and stale, it needs an upgrade. People who work there don't care about providing good service or being classy. Tourist trap! I would come back to this place and I would recommend you come here. Ambiance is great. Great restaurant at the end of the pier. There's lots of great view. Price was decent, especially considering it's a restaurant on a pier. Food: average. But you didn't come here for the food did you? I had the Fish Tacos, which was amazing. Grilled fish on a taco, how could you go wrong? What others had in my party: Lobster roll - the filling was average at best, couldn't really taste much. The bread was literally too hard to chew. Kid's chicken tenders- The chicken was fried in Panco or something similar and it was pretty good 7/10. Although there were fries left on the kid's plate. I didn't think the fries were bad. Shrimp Cocktail - didn't taste it, but they seem kind of small. Pinky sized. Clam chowder - my kid ate all of mine, so I'll leave it at that. I wasn't amazing, but it was much better than I can make. One because zero is not allowed We came here 30 mins before last seating time. Last seating was at 6:45 and we were back at the door after taking our kids to the restroom, at 6:47!!! We recently had our Company Christmas dinner at Moby Dick, the manager let us decorate to our liking, the food was amazing, and the service was great from the servers to the manager, Simon went above and beyond making sure we were happy. although our party went over hours, we weren't' rush out there we were able to enjoy the evening with friends and family. we were very pleased. a lovely experience. read more

Food was good. I had the Halibut sandwich. Service was amazing. Our server Joseph was one of the best we've had in a while. Sat on the patio by the bay and saw a whale, dolphins, seals, pelicans and more. Also, if you're from out of town/state, the first 90 minutes of parking on the wharf is free. There is a reason this place had 3 stars, which I think it's too much. Horrible experience, from the beginning to the end. The food was tasteless, The service was ok, and there is no management. We ordered steam mussels and clams , shrimp ceviche , lobster and snapper. Lobster and snapper were chewy, I think they overcooked. Clams and mussels and ceviche were tastless. Moby Dick is out on the pier and right now all dining is outside so there can be good, bad and ugly scenery if you know what I mean. While sitting at our table a passerby had to proclaim to all the customers that we should eat vegetarian. Not much you can do about that. We were out whale watching and stopped in for a late lunch Sun afternoon. Lots of fried stuff on the menu and it wasn't bad but fried calamari should not be served in strips. The fish n chips were good though. The clam chowder was also very hearty and tasty. It's a bit pricey due to touristy location but service was good. The halibut came with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies all cooked perfectly. A good portion of food is fried and it can be heavy but my family enjoyed it. As I was passing through SB, I wanted to take a quick look at the pier and grab a bite to eat so stopped into Moby Dick because it was honestly the first restaurant I saw. We were sat towards the back of the restaurant and greeted with a smile by our server. The grilled fish tacos and calamari rings were great, but Joseph was awesome! As busy as he was, he took time to check on us and keep our drinks filled. Outside seating is pretty good, you get a glass wall protecting you from the wind and umbrella's blocking the sun. You get a good view of the inner harbor area. Tables were clean and the wait staff is attentive and friendly. I ordered the Seafood Roll with a cup of Boston Clam Chowder. The clam chowder ($2.00 when added to a meal) was really good. Not too much potatoes. You can really taste the clam. Creamy not watery with chunks of clam. The Seafood Roll ($16) - Not all that great. Cannot really taste the seafood... only the celery. The french baguette really needs to be toasted and buttered to add some flavor. The predominate seafood in the roll was bay shrimp. I think there might have been some crab, but it was really hard to tell. The Roll came with a side of fries... the fries were actually really good... twice fried and well seasoned. Good crisp not oily. The men's room had a double urinal (no privacy divider) and 2 stalls (1 handicap + 1 normal). The normal stall looked a bit narrow. The floors were wet, but otherwise the room was clean and well stocked. read more

It was our second visit out here in Santa Barbara celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary. Moby Dick has good food but its a bit overpriced on some of the appetizers i think. I had the Teriyaki chicken breast and it was tender cooked just right and my wife whose not to fond of seafood but she tried the fish tacos and now she is a fish fan and wants to come back again. As a Christmas dinner out, all I can say is never again. Server was great. Not her fault. If your visiting from out of town looking for a pier experience, be sure to go during daylight hours so at least you have a visual experience. To be specific, to be out of all fresh fish is pretty much inexcusable. Fish and chips- fish was frozen out of a box for sure. Drinks very small. How hard is it to make a decent Caesar salad. Just went there with my wife and kid for Valentine's and had the surf and turf and it was perfect! The food was cooked to perfection. Although the pier can feel crowded with people from out of town, we love going to Moby's because it feels cozy. They have a hardworking team bringing great food, service, and harbor views. I'm not a chef, but I can appreciate a well cooked steak that is accurately cooked per our order, tender, well seasoned, and juicy with every bite. The service was so incredibly friendly with our son. This restaurant has so much heart and does so much right that I hope people take the time to appreciate it and the wonderful harbor views. read more

My mom and sister and I came in here for breakfast Sunday morning before hitting the art show along the beach. The manager was clear when we came in at 10:45am that the kitchen stopped breakfast service at 11am, so we ordered breakfast as soon as possible. Our server, Orlando, was amazing! He was attentive without being intrusive, and made sure everything was perfect for us. We ended up confusing him when we mixed up our own orders - he had them right! The food was excellent. I had the spinach omelette, and was thrilled by the amount of fresh spinach in it. My mom and sister were equally pleased by their meals. We will be coming back to the Moby Dick! read more

It has been our first visit to Santa Barbara and visiting the famous Stearn Wharfs was so cool! What a lovely sight to see. So many restaurants you can find at the pier! All of it was very inviting but we choose to dine in at Moby Dick for some reason, it's like the first restaurant that really grab my attention. The restaurant was pretty, huge and clean. There's a lot of seats and an open space, there's an outside seating as well but We've waited to get the bayside seating. We've only waited for 10mins to get served. The view is so lovely. You can see the boats, birds and people kayaking from the window. My son ordered the sourdough clam chowder and I ordered the Maine lobster. It's cooked perfectly. For the Price of $30 for a 1lb lobster, I am so very pleased haha! Comparing it to San Diego's prices. I am so delighted. The clam chowder was so good as we'll, I'm surprised my son ate it all coz he usually don't finished his meal. We ended our lunch with their bread pudding, it's delicious. We always get a steak on our last night of vacation. We've been on the search on where to get one. While walking out the pier - we stopped and looked at the menu and saw they had a "happy hour" from 3:30-6 that had a deal for two. We both got the sirloin steak - with a baked potato and vegetables. Right after we ordered - I decided to look at the reviews for this place. My heart sank as I was sitting there reading all the terrible reviews!! Shortly after - our steaks arrived. They looked picture perfect! So! Give this place a shot. The hostess was very kind - the waitress was nice and kept our drinks filled - and delivered everything we asked for in a matter of seconds.
