My wife and I finally made a visit today for lunch. We we're greeted with sincerity and excitement. Such a refreshing feeling! The inside is cozy and nice but we decided to eat out in the patio. The service was spot on but the food was even better. Simple chips and salsa, not quite as both were excellent! Our food was amazing, my wife had the Short Rib Enchilada's with a side of chicharrons and I had the Chicken Tinga bowl also with a side of chicharrons. We both enjoyed our food. I loved the taste and true spice of the Chicken Tinga. Overall experience was wonderful. I'm excited to find a local Mexican spot to come back and become a regular. read more

We had reservations for 6 guests Friday evening, a birthday celebration..upon arrival the restaurant was HOT! Oh sorry, our air is out but will be repaired tomorrow. we ordered a drink & thought we'd decide whether to go somewhere else after everyone arrived..2 more of the party arrived & they ordered a drink & chips..30 minutes being there, the kitchen was emitting a lot of smoke..no ceiling fans or emergency fans.. we all left after spending $70.00 for four drinks & chips.. of course on the way out they reminded us their air would be fixed tomorrow. The atmosphere has been worth the wait through COVID. Jacqueline was a wonderful server, very friendly. Mike is one of the top bartenders I have ever interacted with. The chef's vegan tacos he made for me on the spot and I hope they make them a regular part of the menu. Is vegans struggle to find food that doesn't taste like an after thought or modified to meet our convictions. Even meat eaters will prefer these tacos. read more

With three children my wife and I rarely get a date night out. We were recommended Mochilero Kitchen from a friend and decided to try it out. We were kindly greeted and got a table fairly quickly. It was peak time on a Friday evening. With 20 years customer service myself and my wife previously a waitress we value high quality service. Our server Britanni was flawless. Her upbeat personality, menu knowledge and recommendations were spot on. You can tell she really enjoys being around people and ensuring they have the best experience possible. She even gave us a background on the business which is a very cool story. The food was outstanding. We did not have any appetizers although they looked fantastic. My wife had the jalapeño margarita and said it was one of the best she's had. I had the short rib enchiladas and brussel sprouts. Both were great. The enchiladas were not too heavy and had great flavor. My wife had 3 tacos and enjoyed each one of them. All three had great flavor balance. She also had the brussel sprouts and even if your not a brussel sprouts person they are awesome. The atmosphere and decor in the place is great. This little gem will certainly be a place we return to. We just hope Britanni is our server again as she was refreshing to talk to. We are not high maintenance customers but value quality service. Bad customer service! Called to get reservations and the kid kept changing his story every time I asked a question. He finally said that he was only allowed to rsvp for groups of six or more. So I said ok I have a group of six. And again he came back with "oh ok well the earliest I can get you in for brunch is at six PM"!! Lol that's din not brunch time. Anyway they really annoyed me for not handling the call professionally. I think his name was Tyler and although he's just following orders it's totally disappointing to know that they weren't even a little interested in welcoming me as their guest. We've been here three times in the past year so we must like it enough to give it another try periodically. The music is fun and the food is trendy but flavorful. Before I go on: It should be noted that chips and salsa are not included with meals; you have to pay extra for these. So if you're used to adding salsa to your Mexican food, just be prepared for this. Today, rubbed me the wrong way and I'm not sure we'll be back. There was one particular food runner who had MULTIPLE food-handling violations. First, we saw him use a scoop to fill a bowl with chips. All good. But then, he reached in with his bare hands to select a few extra chips to top off the order. No gloves, no washing before or after. Secondly, he brought the wrong food to our table and walked off before we could stop him. A few moments later, we made eye contact and motioned him over to explain. He picked the plates off our table and served them to the correct people, a couple of tables away (major restaurant no-no! He has no idea if we've touched or tasted the food that was originally on our table!) We waved our server (the bartender) over and told him about both of these observations. Eventually, our correct food was brought out and it was tasty. But we have no idea if anything was said to the offending food runner or if that type of behavior is typical from staff. If that's what we're blatantly seeing, I always wonder what's going on behind the scenes that we can't observe from the dining room. My family and I were initially excited to try this place due to the raving reviews. Unfortunately, we did not get to try the food. We stood at the host stand for over 10 minutes, we were seated eventually but were not greeted by a server for over 20 minutes. No drinks, not even a "we're busy here please have some patience". I understand that this restaurant just opened and we are in a pandemic situation that was not planned for. However, I feel that this business could have planned an extra few days prior to opening to make sure they could be very organized and safe during this time and they failed to do so. One thing they could have done was have all orders placed online or by phone so no one would directly have to walk into restaurant. They also could have had runners bringing food directly out to cars after customers sent a text to let them know they were in parking lot. It is very different from the normal restaurant way, but other restaurants in area have adapted remarkably. I placed an online order at 3:55. The website said it was insecure so I did not put in my credit card information . The email said my order would be ready in 30-45 minutes. My husband and I drove down to restaurant and arrived at 4:30. There were two customers standing outside. I gave them my name and was told my order was not ready yet. Several other customers were told to wait and some were ordering at door. I had to go inside to pay since the website was not secure. I then waited another 10 minutes. It became very crowded outside the door as people were waiting. I think it was the owner, it may have been a manager walked by and shook someone's hand and gave him a hug as they walked into the restaurant. (I know that these are social gestures in normal situations but we are in a pandemic and this is an absolute no no!!!!)Then a couple dressed up walked in with flowers and stayed inside the restaurant. I was absolutely shocked!!!! I would have left immediately but I had just paid. We got the food home and the food was mediocre. I feel like 4.50-4.95 for one taco is very expensive, especially in this current situation and in Peoria. read more

I really wanted to like Mochilero. Inside looked cool, and the tequila selection was huge. Ordered for takeout and thought the pricing was on the high side, but I was willing to try. Ordered a Carnitas Burrito, and received a burrito with 95% black beans and rice, with an overwhelming lime flavor, and a few chunks of completely inedible, burnt, dry, pork. I had the pleasure of dining at Mochilero Kitchen earlier this week. What a nice offering on the Upper Westside!! The cocktail and food menus offer creative twists on Mexican dishes. Here's the rundown of my experience. - I felt welcomed the moment I stepped into the door. Atmosphere was what I'll call "upscale casual". Nice fixtures, tables and comfortable chairs. Good noise level. They played a nice choice of music to add to the experience, but the noise level was nice that you can hold a conversation and not strain to hear each other. Hostesses were pleasant. Bar staff was attentive and friendly. Table service was a little slow, but not enough to remove a star. They may just be getting back into the groove of re-opening. - The cocktail bar (my favorite spot to sit!!) was comfortable and seats ten or so customers. There are several house made cocktails and liquors to satisfy so many tastes. I got to have a sip of the house made coconut rum...deeeeelish! There was also house made pineapple vodka. The wine list is not extensive, but has a sufficient selection of red, wine and sparkling. And I was very pleased to see the support for AZ wines! Great selection of tequilas. My friend had a cucumber cocktail that was out of this world. - Guacamole was the best I've had in a while. It was sprinkled with pineapple chunks - say what?!?! Yes, trust me, it was a good call! And served with the crispy, salty, fabulously done plantain chips. Very creative. Loved it! - Chips and salsa were very good. The salsa has a little bit of a smoky flavor which was well received. Chips were thin, fresh and crispy, just the way I like 'em! - Papas taco has received a lot of good hipe on Yelp reviews. While it was very good, it didn't make it to the top of my list. That may just be me... - Shrimp taco was fantastic. Very fresh and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. They were wrapped in a blue corn (maybe something else?) tortilla which gave it a great flavor. - And I saved the best for last....***Short rib enchiladas***!!!! Oh my goodness! From the moment the plate hit the table, I could tell it was going to be yummy. And low and behold, with the first bite I knew I was in love forever. The meat was tender and flavorful. The red mole was the perfect topping IMO. And they were wrapped in the same blue corn tortilla which gave it such a depth of flavor. I had leftovers for lunch the next day... maybe even better after they had the chance to "marinate". Bottom line: Go. Just go. You will not be disappointed! read more

Tried out this spot with family on a whim, all were pleased! The CHILE EN NOGADA was phenomenal. I'm so jealous of my husband for ordering! Short rib taco and fish taco were so flavorful and good.
