Finally made it to Happy Hour and had the most wonderful time. Service was impeccable while still being fun. Food was exquisite. Our friends ordered a wedge salad and we ordered calamari fries. My girlfriend wasn't crazy about the salad but it would be because she doesn't like pork belly. Our husband's loved it. Calamari was very tender and plentiful. I ordered the prime tip skewer with bell pepper and onions. Deliciously tender. My husband ordered the sliced steak that you cook on a 400° stone at your table and it was exceptional. Our friends ordered the meatballs that could be either in a red sauce or a mushroom gravy so they ordered both and my picky friend (her hubby) said one of the best meatballs he has had. The truffle fries were great. High compliments from him all night long. (From the chilled beer glasses that fit his bottle of beer for a perfect poor to the dessert. He was happy!) We ended with a butter cake that had a toasted marshmallow cream and ice cream and their Apple Cobbler. Both enough to share with 4-6 people. (He even praised the ice cream) The above is important but what also made our evening was how fun it was to be playful with our service team. Service was excellent! Our server was experienced, and attentive but not overbearing, plus there were 2 other staff members clearing dishes and bringing food. My only complaint was that the server did not let us know how large the side dishes are. Each one is a hefty serving and easily shared by 2 people. So instead of us ordering 2 sides per person at $12-16/side, we would have ordered one each and shared. Instead we took home 6 boxes of food that will probably be thrown out in 3 days... after spending almost $700 for five people. I would have appreciated a heads up: "Hey, just so you know, the side dishes are a decent size, you could probably share and try more things"? So, that was a little disappointing... The steaks are AMAZING. Best I've ever had, easily. Worth the money! You do get what you pay for here as far as steaks/ beef. The side dishes were ok, and probably worth the money if we had known we could share them and that would've brought the price down a bit. Average $15 per side dish for mashed potatoes or fries is steep. One other issue that kind of irritated us is that my daughter ordered the broiled chicken and orzo but asked to sub the orzo for fries because she's allergic to peas. They added a $7 up charge for that substitute when the 2 sides are the exact same price on the menu and it was an allergy. Also, her fries came late because "the chef wasn't happy with how they turned out"... they're FRIES lol. Probably forgot the substitution and gave her orzo is my guess and he had to make fries after. The up charge made no sense to us especially when her side dish came out later. Other than that we were really happy with the meal. We sat outside, it was a nice night, quiet and cool for May. The food was amazing, our steaks were cooked to perfection. The menu is a la carte. We also ordered the cheesy potatoes, mushrooms, and the grilled corn. There wasn't anything that stood out about the sides, they were just okay. Our server was very pleasant, she had a large table of 12 in addition to us and other 'regular' sized tops, so her visits back to our table were less frequent then we would have liked. One thing we base service on is whether our beverages are refilled before they are finished and we had to ask a runner to refill our beverages because we hadn't seen our server for sometime. The beautiful hostesses, the decor, the attentive waiting staff to tell you how utterly brilliant your order is.....everything you'd expect from an upscale dining experience. Now the food......instead of crisp coated fried calamari, it was mushy and tasteless without the dipping sauce. My wife had the petite filet and I had the ribeye. We both agreed it was the saltiest steak we'd ever had from any restaurant. I ended up eating maybe 1/4 of mine and took the rest home to rinse off and reheat later. The sautéed corn was good, the Brussel sprouts okay. With the quality of food, and $330 (with tip) price tag for what I described (other than 3 cocktails), I cannot recommend this place. read more

Bourbon and Bones is well known, and the nicest chophouse in the area, so we were elated to finally get to experience the elegance and tastes that they boast. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype or our expectations. We went for some major milestone celebrations (dads 75th bday, husbands 40th bday, and my parents 50th wedding anniversary), needless to say these are BIG and worth some confetti and notoriety, but nothing was said or properly acknowledged. That's ok though, the real issues we had were the restaurant itself... We dressed for fancy and elegance expecting Bourbon and Bones to display traditional class and uphold dress code standards; with such a fine and expensive menu it seemed only fitting. However when we got there we saw cutoff jean shorts and extremely casual clothing and ambiance everywhere. They even had a card on the front desk explaining dress code standards but those seem to be optional. We had a reservation but when we got there we had to wait a bit even though there me were empty tables. Once we were seated it took a while for our waiter to greet us and he seemed quite frazzled. He was lovely and did a nice job, but clearly they are understaffed or had a lot going on that night. We ordered multiple steaks, appetizers, sides, wine, and the prime rib dinner. Our drinks took a very long time to arrive, and the service was disappointing for the prices and experience that Bourbon and Bones is known for. The food was good but the only thing great was the prime rib. They put huge emphasis on the luxuries they provide with fancy cutlery and bourbon out of a syringe, however the execution is poor and leaves much to be desired when you are paying $400 for a meal. My family and I have a Christmas Eve tradition of going to a new nice restaurant each year and this year we made reservations here! We were sat promptly and greeted right away. The menu was explained to us and drink orders were taken. We ended up ordering crab cakes, calamari strips, and scallops for our appetizers. They were all delicious- somewhat small portions. For dinner everyone ordered a steak which was cooked to perfection! Our side choices were cheesy potatoes, Brussel sprouts, mac n cheese, and asparagus. All of these were great aside from the asparagus which didn't taste like they were ready to be cooked-very mushy. Our server was nice and tended to the table well. The only complaint that I have is that the drinks took a very long time! Not sure if the bar was slow or understaffed but we had to wait a long time for drinks (3rounds). Bourbon & Bones - Worth Every Penny We were looking for a special place to celebrate my birthday and wanted to try something new. I've been really into bourbon the last few years, so a great steak and an excellent Old Fashioned were high on my list. I was thrilled to snag reservations at Bourbon & Bones just a few days out. I requested a booth in the special requests, and when we arrived they already had a beautiful booth set aside for us, which was a great start to the night. The atmosphere is intimate, upscale, and welcoming without feeling stuffy. Our waitress, Kailyn, was fantastic -- attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely pleasant -- and she was supported by William, who was equally great. Our friends were running late, but we never felt rushed or pressured, which really allowed us to enjoy the experience. We were greeted with crusty bread, whipped butter, and salted pretzel breadsticks -- all excellent. The bourbon and whiskey list is massive, easily the most extensive I've ever seen at a restaurant . I started with their Pre-Prohibition Old Fashioned, which normally comes with Knob Creek 12, but they happily let me swap in Michter's American US*1. It was very good. Later, my buddy and I tried the Imperial Old Fashioned, a barrel-aged cocktail that can be served smoked tableside. The presentation was impressive, and the flavor lived up to it. Easily one of the best Old Fashioneds I've ever had . For appetizers, everything was a hit. My wife loved the short rib martinis so much she ordered a second. I had the jumbo shrimp cocktail from the raw bar, and they were the best shrimp cocktail I've ever had. As expected with a high-end steakhouse, sides are served à la carte and meant for sharing. We ordered the mac & cheese, sweet potato casserole, and I also had a jumbo short rib baked potato plus a cup of French onion soup, which was outstanding. For my entrée, I ordered the 10oz filet Oscar style with crab and hollandaise . The steak was cooked perfectly -- juicy, tender, and beautifully crusted -- and the crab was a perfect addition. The baked potato was massive and had to come home with me. The sweet potato casserole reminded me of Thanksgiving with an amazing brown sugar crust on top. This was the most expensive meal I've ever had, but the food, service, atmosphere, and overall experience made it worth every penny. A perfect spot for a celebration, and I would absolutely return. The price point does not match with the quality of the food or the service. By far the best steak I've ever had, I've been to so many in California and here in Arizona and the filet mignon was phenomenal. We got the table side service that included an awesome show of setting the steak on fire and it made the steak crispy on the outside and mouth watering tender on the inside. The flavors were unmatched and I can't wait till I'm back, the service was top notch. Our server Dane was amazing and he never left our drinks empty and made sure we were taken care of greatly. The 8oz Kobe A5 New York was very rich and provided a chewing experience I've never had before. The rendered fat secretes from the meat during your first couple of chews, leaving behind a piece of steak for you to chew on. I'd recommend a medium cook on this. The 24oz prime bone-in ribeye was a fantastic, high-quality cut of steak, which provides that expected steak chewing experience. My butcher, Troubs, can't get this quality of meat. Perfectly cooked, perfect grill marks, full of flavor and came with a light & tasty horseradish crema, I ordered, for dipping. It didn't need any of the 3 flavored salts they gave us. This was rave-worthy. We actually preferred the ribeye over the A5. The Tableside Flambe was a striking presentation, providing all with a dinner and a show. The brussel sprouts were served with pork lardons and a sweet bourbon glaze which we found very pleasing to the palate. It all worked, and the lardons were substantial. We really enjoyed their stellar creme brulee. It wasn't as sweet as others we've head, but was very creamy. However, the butter cake with the melted marshmallow and candied pecans was unique, albeit a tad disappointing since the crumb was kind of dry. The butter cake from Arrowhead Grill is so much better. We have been wanting to try this place for the past couple of years now and finally decided to give it a try for our 22nd wedding anniversary. We usually go to The Keg at Desert Ridge and have dined at Arrowhead Grill and Fleming's for special occasions in the recent past. Well, Bourbon & Bones did not live up to the expectations that we had hoped and fell short of the previously mentioned restaurants. We also thought the ambiance would be a bit more classy and although we adhered to the "business casual" dress code, many others did not, with patrons wearing t-shirts and shorts. Whatever, not that big of a deal. What was really disappointing was the food and the price paid for the overall meal. To start off, the pretzel bread was great. We ordered a Caesar Salad and it was tasteless and bland. For our entree, I ordered the Prime Filet Mignon and my wife ordered the Wagyu Filet Mignon. Let me just say that mine was much better than hers and wasn't worth the additional $40-something dollars. It was cooked to her liking, but seemed dry for it being "premium" and cooked at medium rare. The Cheesy Potatoes were pretty tasty. We were gifted a Butter Cake for our anniversary, but we also added a Creme Brûlée. It was sent back because the top sugar layer was barely crisp. It came back better, but still wasn't great. Back To the Butter Cake- very nicely done! Service was good. At first, wasn't sure who the primary server was, but both were friendly and thorough. Only problem is it seemed like our primary server disappeared towards the end when we were waiting for the check. Was hoping to catch a movie 15 min away, starting at 8:30 PM and thought we would have enough time with it being 7:45 PM at the time, but we didn't get the check until 10 min later (receipt printed at 7:59 PM). After we had ordered appetizers a party of ten or twelve people were seated directly across from us. We ordered dinner, and appetizers were served. The party across from us became increasingly loud and completely oblivious to the fact that they were disturbing other diners. They became so loud that we could not even carry on a conversation at our own table. The restaurant manager was no where to be seen and nothing was done to mitigate the situation. After an unexplained delay our dinners were served cold. This was a failure on many points by the restaurant management and staff to provide the dining experience that one would expect at this price point. My 80+ year old mother in law got married last weekend so we set up a dinner for our (relatively) small party of 24 at Bourbon and Bones. The filet was delicious and simply melted in my mouth. Service was impeccable and frankly the staff is simply top notch. I loved the private room as we fit perfectly and the entire atmosphere is amazing. First off hostess and two people servicing our table were excellent. Gentlemen serving the food, was not. No prior notice he was there, like a greeting. Just plopped our food in front of us. Not friendly at all. Two people ordered the prime rib dinner, and guest said it was sub-par. Chewy, not warm at all. Corn with meal was worse than canned. Potato was fine. One guest was vegetarian and the chef was kind enough to make a vegetarian pasta which was good. One pork chop was ordered, not tender was his remark. We also had the pork belly appetizer no char and not very warm either. The pretentious routine bringing out of boxed steak knives is ridiculous. Just being one our that is sharp with meal! Time of day was 4ish. Lightening is dim, it was hot as well, sitting at high table puts you in mind of a bar. The high prices should reflect a more intimate seating style. $400 dollar bill $100 tip. Have had better meals and atmosphere at plenty of lower priced restaurants. Second time here and the last. The prime rib was just okay on my first visit, but absolutely outstanding the second time around. Salt isn't the solution to making a great dish. We travel with a couple and the 4 of us are foodies. We always visit a higher end restaurant on our trips and found this one to be a disappointment. They had drinks on their menu priced $100-$300 although most of their drinks were in the $25 price point. The caprice salad was mediocre. The scallops were good but heavy on salt as was the salad. Two of us got a pork chop that was tough and lacked flavor. The Chilean Sea Bass was well cooked but over salted. The outside bench seating had a great ambiance and was spaced for comfortable conversation but it was difficult to get into it without pulling the table out. The seats had little back support so when you leaned back, you were lying back. The Bourbon Glazed Brussels Spouts were good and the pea orzo was exceptional. We normally get dessert but didn't want to spend any more money at this overpriced restaurant. Our waitress was great and they did a good job of keeping the tables cleaned off. In conclusion, go to the Stetson Social which is in the same strip center. It's a better meal at a better price. Lastly, I didn't take any picks of the food because presentation is important at a place with these kind of prices. They didn't do well in this area. Can't comment on the food or service since we were never seated. We came in (party of four) on a Monday at 4:10 to have an early dinner/happy hour. The bar had about six people in it and one table in the dining room had diners. We asked to be seated. After saying we did not have a reservation, the hostess replied with a huge eye roll and through her pierced lips told us she couldn't seat us. The place was literally 90% empty. She said she could "maybe" seat us outside. It was over 100 degrees and the outdoor tables were empty. My friend said we would go elsewhere to which the hostess replied "whatever" and turned away. They each got a butter cake for their birthdays complementary. This year they only got one and they had to share it. Lol. I don't know. Maybe it's the price of goods and services. So that was the only complaint that they had, but we had a wonderful experience at this location. It is a hike for me. This was our first visit and it was pretty underwhelming. We had a 5:45 reservation and got seated quickly. However, we waited well over 10 minutes for anyone to come by. When they did, it was for water (which tasted like very bad tap water). It took another 10-15 minutes to see our server and get menus. Being that it is so loud in the restaurant, we had a difficult time hearing her explanation of the menu. We ordered drinks that took quite some time to finally arrive. I was not impressed with the half-moon booth for the seating of 3. Conversations were difficult. What I liked: The sides were good (broccoli au gratin & brussel sprouts) with the exception of the mashed potatoes. Although the flavor was good, they were quite runny. The corn (my husband's choice) was good. The butter cake my husband received free for his birthday was a nice touch (although it was a bit dry). The red wine recommendation was spot-on for what I had described as wanting. The wine list is quite extensive. What needs improvement: Serving steaks as ordered. I ordered my petite filet medium and it came pretty rare. After sending it back, there was still no improvement (or apology), but I dealt with it. My son's steak was ordered medium rare and it arrived medium-well and was chewy. I would like to have seen more choices for appetizers (other than seafood). The bread was dry and the butter was cold and tasted like it had been stored open in a refrigerator causing it to absorb smells during storage. The level of service was sub-par for the attempt at being a fine dining restaurant. After spending $400+ for 3 people, I left pretty disappointed. Compared to other fine dining experiences, this visit left much to be desired. I gave 3 stars because my husband was happy with his steak and bourbon. He's willing to return, but my choice will be to instead stick with other tried and true restaurants. read more
