Hey, I like MOD Pizza! Tasty thin crust, oven cooked, nice texture, and a perfect size. To be honest, I didn't see anything I liked on the menu at first. I decided to go for the "Create Your Own" Pizza option. I like combination pizzas, so I just added all the toppings I liked on their list. The result was one good pizza. I open the box, and it's a thing of beauty. The bell peppers, the smell of the mushrooms, pepperoni, salami, and the cheeses....all on a thin crust. The fresh ingredients made it delicious. The pizza was cut up into 8 slices, and it was just the right size. I also ordered Garlic Cheesy bread with Ranch Dip. I didn't know how big it was. MOD Pizza is in the middle of Southshore Center in Alameda. The time I went my wife and I split a pizza, Caesar Salad and Garlic Strips. They were good, except for the fact around the time after we ordered they informed us that the oven was being powered down for maintenance. My son and I both love Mod. We get a wide variety of choices for toppings at the same price, which is a very reasonable price. The food is always delicious and I personally LOVE their lemonade, regular and Blackberry. Our only issue is that they consistently burn our pizzas. This happened several times earlier in the year and I requested that they remake our pizzas, which made each person look annoyed at our requests. I reluctantly went back this week for a special first week of school treat, my son requested Mod. Fortunately, the pizzas were perfect this time. My son said they were burnt, but that was just a small piece of overcooked cheese on the side of his pizza. Otherwise, the flavor was good and I felt happy. This little plaza pretty much has everything. This is conveniently located on the outer edge close to Panera bread, chipotle, and Jamba Juice. I came here on a Friday evening and there were quite a lot of people there. They have a couple of tables open inside but plenty of table outside for outdoor dining. I got a regular salad which was a little under $10 and definitely plenty of food. My bf got a personalized pizza with plenty of meat and veggies. Service was good overall. Together our two items was $21. They do offer a lunch special which is a free 24 oz drink if you go during a certain time. I'm a fan of mod pizza and this location was great! Okay, this review is more than 2 weeks overdue. Sis suggested coming here after our time at Victoria's Secret. I have never been to MOD based on a past experience when I was going next door to Five Guys and figured I'd stop in MOD and give them a try. I absolutely LOVE pizza. Anyway, my first experience was me walking in and upon making it to the counter and seeing how food was just all over and it appeared nothing was being cleaned, I was disgusted and walked out. I am familiar with this concept as I have had and enjoyed both Blaze and Pieology but when I walked in, nothing made me want to stay. So I'll chalk that up to maybe it was me being in a mood (nope but let's go with it). So again, Sis loves this place and is a pizza fan like myself. I told her of my experience and she said just try it. No lie, we walk in and instantly I'm like uuuggh. The floor was dirty and I'm like with all these people (workers) in here, how does the floor look like this. I understand restaurants get busy and people are pulled away but any lead or manager on duty should always be checking that the restaurant looks good, it is literally a first impression and remember I'm only hete because of Sis because my first impression of this spot was 2 fingers up, I'll pass. Anyway, I hate I didn't get more pics but there were 3 ppl in front of us two being helped at that moment and again i just felt things should have been cleaner. I told Sis, the floor was dirty and we could eat in the car. I do not want to sit with food under my feet and she politely asked one of the staff to sweep up an area so we could sit. I feel I must say again, the restaurant WAS NOT packed and there were no less than 5 workers behind the counter, why no one had the forethought to take advantage of the time the restaurant was virtually empty and clean is beyond me. The staff was cool and again I love this concept but I also think people love and enjoy not having to see food all over the counter and floor while ordering and/or prior to eating. Some things are just basic knowledge and if you have 5-6 workers that would seem to be more than enough people given this small location. As this was my first time actually trying I'm not sure if this spot gets busy but it wasn't packed when I had my first experience either but perhaps they do have waves but clearly this was not one of them. I was welcomed with a friendly hello once I walked in, but she seemed rather exasperated when she was asking what I wanted on my pizza. The pizza dough was incredibly thin, and the toppings were sparse. I also found a hair on my pizza which was kind of disappointing. I also thought my pizza was too salty. On the bright side, however, the pizza was baked well at a good temperature! I do prefer Blaze Pizza to MOD Pizza. Was about a 10 minute wait for it to be remade - no big deal, it happens and I was offered an apology and something to drink while I waited, so that was cool. On a recent Friday evening me & my friend cruised on over to Alameda to MOD Pizza for some vegan pizza. MOD Pizza is a fast, casual chain that does pizza even offering a solid vegan pizza. I have been vegan nearly 20 years & back in the day the vegan cheese didn't melt. The plant based movement has come a long way offering better vegan cheese alternatives as well as becoming increasingly mainstream. One big improvement is we now have vegan cheeses that melt along w/ some artisan vegan cheeses that taste amazing. Miyoko's artisan cultured vegan cheese is probably one of the best vegan cheese brands out there that is a bit pricey yet worth it as it is amazing. Butcher's Son in Berkeley also makes a artisan cheese in house for their sandwiches & other restaurants are starting to carry it such as a vegan pizza that Cheeseboard Collective does in Berkeley. Daiya, a company based out of Vancouver, Canada, was one of the first vegan cheeses to come out that actually melt & it is made from tapioca so it is allergen free. When Daiya arrived in 2009 it was a big deal in the movement. It is good although I prefer other vegan cheeses yet it is great that places offer it as it is the go to vegan cheese for many restaurants it seems these days. Back in the good old days when I first went vegan it was ordering a pizza w/ no cheese w/ heaps of veggies along w/ extra marinara sauce. MOD Pizza was fairly crowded & a bit noisy yet that was too be expected on a Friday night. We went w/ a double crust pizza w/ Daiya vegan cheese & all the veggies for $11.27. It is unlimited toppings which is nice. We had it fully loaded w/ artichokes, arugula, basil, kalamata olives, black olives, cilantro, green bell peppers, jalapenos, Mama Lil's peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, red onion, roasted garlic, roasted kale, roasted corn, roasted red peppers, chopped fresh rosemary, spinach, & tomatoes. We even were able to get chick peas added upon request. It was a flavorful & enjoyable vegan pizza that is worth checking out! read more

Heard a lot of good things about Mod Pizza so finally decided to check it out. It's inside the Alameda Southshore Center by Jamba Juice & Panera. They're opening one in Castro Valley soon. It's similar to Pieology where you can customize your own pizza for about $9. So, I came in on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy; maybe about 6 people inside. The bf and I were checking out their menu on the wall and decided to go with the "Mad Dog" which has red sauce, pepperoni, mild sausage, ground beef & mozzarella. We substituted it w/ white sauce instead and added more toppings; garlic, corn, mushrooms, spicy Italian sausage & onions. The pizza tasted alright compared to other places I've been to. The sausages were too salty and the lady cut our pizza into 4's... so the pieces were too big. Service wasn't good either. The employees did not greet us, weren't welcoming and seemed like they didn't want to be there. I saw some interesting drink options tho, like a vintage lemonade and Marion blackberry limeade. I don't know why it took me so long to try this place, but I finally went with a few friends. It's located in a plaza with plenty of parking, so finding a spot will never be a problem. The workers greeted us as soon as we walked in. It has the same concept as pieology where you are able to build you own pizza with unlimited toppings. I'm not sure if pieology or mod came first, but I've only known pieology for years. I really like that mod has a mini size that's the perfect snack. The lady who started my pizza was very nice. They all seem to be working at lightning speed. I felt a bit rushed. It was my first time, so I had to look at all my topping options, but I felt like I was looking to slow, so I just picked whatever. They don't seem to put much on your pizza unless you ask them to put more. I asked them to cook my pizza a little longer because I wanted it to be crispy. You can even add some drizzle to top off your pizza after it comes out of the oven. I liked the balsamic and pesto drizzle. The pizza was pretty good even though it looked boring. Had been wanting to try MOD for a while after having heard great things about the MOD chain from others. To say the least, my positive dining experience matched my friends' prior experiences at the MOD chain. MOD can be described as Chipotle of pizza- you design your pizza just the way you like it. However, unlike Chipotle the price of your pizza includes ANY ingredient you want. As a veggie fan, my pizza had a good balanced mix of greens and meat. My pizza (I ordered the 11" - aka the MOD) included arugula, kale, mushrooms, artichoke, sundried tomatoes, pepperoni, basil, sprinkled pesto, spicy Italian sausage, mozzarella and Gorgonzola cheeses, with red sauce. I usually don't finish an entire personalized sized pizza, but I was hungry and it was just that good! This place is pretty popular, even at off times (I came at 3pm). The restaurant itself isn't that big, so it may be hard to find a table. Parking is plentiful as this MOD is located inside the South Shore Center strip mall. Definitely will be back.
