Ultimate Garlic Chicken/ Pizza La Val's Special Pizza
    Renee F.

A little gem hiding behind the shopping center. We almost thought it was closed. Happily it was open. The owner, Sam was friendly and greeted us. The pizza was delicious, especially the thin, crispy crust. We had the La Val's Special and Ultimate Garlic Chicken pizza. They have beers on tap too. It family oriented and has an upstairs that can be reserved for larger groups.

I think this place is the only pizza on Bay Farm. I went here since I was a child and am still glad that it is still alive. In relativity to other pizza places you could get, it's not the best, BUT I will say that the nostalgia kicks in hard with this one. I just get the bbq chicken pizza. It's basically on a thin crust which they haven't changed. It kinda just tastes like bbq chicken on a flat bread, which I am not opposed to. I love that. It's just in terms of pizza, it's pretty average.

Gosh, I really hate this. La Val's has been my favorite pizza place anywhere. I have moved out of the area, but get a La Val's pizza every time that I am back. The last time, the Special (Which is my Favorite), Just seemed different. I don't know, I feel that it might be something in the crust or sauce. It seemed it used to have a slightly sweet garlicky flavor. Well, I ordered delivery. I decided to use La Val's delivery rather than one of the other services because I thought they would be more responsive. I literally live 1/2 of a mile from la Val's and the pizza showed up barely lukewarm. So disappointing. Again, there was something off about the special. We also ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza. I really couldn't find any BBQ sauce at all. I think they forgot it. That pizza was really pretty terrible. Last, it appears as though prices have gone way up. $36 for one large Special or BBQ chicken seems like a lot. Two pies and it's ouch! I really like this place. I really do! I hope the new owner reads the Yelp reveiws and listens to thheir customers. I would hate to lose them.

Ask the Community - La Val's Pizza

I just read that La Val's in Alameda was sold and that Dan and Dave are retiring; is this true?

Dave still works there. Dan has retired. The new owner is a great guy.

Our guide Jennifer was a wealth of knowledge and so very fun to lead us through the history and operations of this business. The average person just doesn't appreciate all the work that goes into the foods that we eat. We saw the warehouse where the raw goods are stored and then onto the production floor! We saw the flour coming out into the massive vats, loaves coming out of ovens, focaccia going into convection ovens and all the steps in between. We were gifted an amazing bag of products that included a sweet baguette, sour battard, a bag of granola, bag of croutons, a morning bun, bag of cinnamon bread, biscotti and a bag of cinnamon bread. Unbelievable!!! They are such a family oriented organization that values community that they regularly donate product out. Items that come back from the stores and those that have an opps are sent out to become feed for chickens! I've always loved Semifreddis and now, I love them more. There are no public tours. Only way in is via a donated tour or via hosted events for 2nd grade and up classes. What a special day for me and 19 of my friends and family. Thank you!! Ps. Fowl + Fare operates from a small storefront right next to the Shanvi Indian Grocery store on Santa Clara Ave (near Broadway). This place is either takeout or eat outside on picnic tables. I took my food to-go. I had the Citric Hot Chicken Sandwich w/ Seasoned Fries. I liked the Citric Hot Chicken Sandwich. It was spicy, but not numbing hot. The slaw sort of smoothed out the spicy heat. It's made from thigh meat, so it's moist and easy to eat. I didn't like the seasoned fries. They cut the potatoes into thin fries that don't travel well as takeout. Probably okay if you ate them right there, fresh from the kitchen. If I go back, I'm just getting a sandwich.....no fries.

My dad wanted everything on his sandwich as well as lite mustard and etc and the lady who makes the sandwiches wasn't listening and kept trying to say she got it and she's working on it. I've worked in food service for years and it is important to hear what a customer is asking for because after all, it's their food. We got home, no tomatoes, sandwich was missing stuff, my boyfriend's sandwich was missing stuff. It was disappointing. My father was very upset. I think they could be more friendly as well as being more adapting to certain people who are just communicating a specific need or want in their purchase. We will be calling later in hopes to remove or change this review. Thank you.

I work super early in the morning so I rush to my Google Maps to see what's open. Huzzah! This place is open at 6am. I hop in my car and drive relatively fast (but safe) so I'm not late to work. Service is pretty friendly, I made the mistake of asking for two shots of espresso in my medium latte (2 shots is a medium, duh Lauryn), but they were pretty nice about it. My lox bagel was pretty fresh and delicious. Good amount of cream cheese and salmon, and the cucumbers and tomatoes didn't taste like they were sitting in the fridge. They were crisp! Since I was grabbing and going, can't speak too much on ambiance on the place.
